Jennifer Dawson is a new to me author as well this series. I just liked the blurb. I had unfamiliar footing to start and well I guess the short cuts in the story didn't help me either. But I liked it enough. The main characters were interesting. Though I didn't feel emotionally connected with them really since it developed fast and had to I guess for the story. There was a lot of physical than emotional building which is ok but doesn't help in getting the characters. I wasn't a huge fan of the heroine's attitude, nor do I get why either. The story did improve for me later on when it became clear that all of that arguing and bickering whatnot was a prelude to lots of attraction and chemistry.
I think I would need another point of reference for the author to really get a feel.
I needed this book. It was funny and hot and then suddenly it became a beautiful and emotional story about two people that truly connected. I loved every word.
This is the first book in this series and the first one I've read. I really need to go and read the other books so I can follow the story better. This story has lots of heat, humor and heart. The characters are strong and hot and steamy. The characters also have fantastic chemistry and banter which helps the story flow. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future. Highly recommended

What’s it About? Sophie Kincaid has had to temporarily move back home to the small town of Revival, Illinois after her boss lands in jail for embezzling and Sophie’s professional reputation is in pieces. For the next six months Sophie will be working for the city and renting a house until she can go back to Chicago and pick up her life as she knew it. The one problem with her plans is her landlord/neighbor Ryder Moore. From the moment they meet they can’t seem to stop aggravating each other. Ryder’s flirty charm gets on Sophie’s nerves but at the same time she’s tempted to give in to the attraction.
Overall reaction to the story? Jennifer Dawson will charm you with her small town romance and her fun, flirty characters! Head Over Heels is the sexiest, hottest book of the Something New series. I loved the chemistry between Ryder and Sophie and the way their relationship took a different route to that happy ending . The plot is fun, the pace is great, and that warm feeling of home is present from start to finish, making this series one of the few small town romances I just HAVE to have on my kindle.
Describe the hero in five words: Sexy. Charming. Fun. Intelligent. Loyal.
Did you like him? Yes.
Why? Ryder was a genuinely good guy. He was the type of guy you could depend on if you find yourself in trouble. He loved his family and wanted to do right by them. He helped his friends when they needed it and through it all had this irresistible sense of humor and charm. Ryder looked like a bad boy but it was all for appearances because this guy had a heart of gold. Of course, he did have that one flaw where he liked to pick at Sophie until she got seriously angry at him but hey, he was never mean about it. He was the adult version of a boy on the playground pulling the pigtails of the girl he likes. It’s cute in an annoying way.
Describe the heroine in five words: Driven. Snarky. Smart. Stylish. Fun.
Did you like her? Yes.
Why? Sophie’s my kind of girl. She was a professional and she was a success at being a professional. Sophie was like a fish out of water in Revival but that didn’t make her less independent or capable of handling her own problems. Her one flaw was that she was too independent and she didn’t know how to just let go and let someone else help her when things got to be too overwhelming. Even when she would talk with Maddie and Penelope she would only listen for so long before she shut down and put on her “I-Can-Handle-This-Myself” attitude.
Let’s talk about the romance: Oh boy, Ryder and Sophie all but set the pages on fire the second they met. These two had such a hot courtship that included a lot of baiting and arguing. It was their form of foreplay and man did it work for them! These two fought like cats and dogs but that didn’t make their romance any less appealing. It wasn’t all bickering and sex though. Ryder and Sophie had moments that were sweet and tender and that’s what truly had me believing in them as a couple. As hot as their physical chemistry was, I knew that once Sophie got a chance to be on the receiving end of Ryder’s good heart, she’d have a hard time leaving him behind when her six months were up.
How about that supporting cast? All of the previous characters from the previous books make an appearance in Head Over Heels which wasn’t surprising because Sophie belongs to a very close group of friends and the connections within that group can get a little confusing at times. I love the warmth and unconditional support they give one another even as they’re delivering a bit of harsh truth. These characters all care about each other and want everyone to have a good life, and of course, lots of fun. It was great to check in with them again.
Click It or Skip It? Click It. Ryder and Sophie’s unusual but hot as heck romance is just what the doctor ordered.
Another amazing book by Jennifer Dawson. Her Something New series is blissfully sweet and has me wanting to move to Revival. Who knew a small town could be so appealing?
Sophie and Ryder were smoking hot from the minute they met. The sexual tension oozed off of the pages, and I quickly became lost in this charming love story of a bad boy cop and workaholics good girl. A must read book of I do say.
4 stars
Head Over Heels by Jennifer Dawson was a very good read.
I enjoyed the storyline, the writing was well done and the characters Sophie and Ryder were likable, relatable and I loved watching them come together.
Head Over Heels is an excellent addition to the Something New series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all!
Sophie believes she's living the life. She lives in the city where everything (shopping, takeout, & Starbucks) is at her disposal. She has a job she loves, but it all changes on a dime. FBI swarm her job, shutting it down. As VP, Sophie was found not guilty, but her image was tarnished nonetheless. In her spare time, Sophie also wrote a successful blog about new, trendy places in the city. It too suffers due to the investigation. So Sophie's friends convince her to move to Revival, temporarily.
Maddie arranges for Sophie to rent a house from Ryder, Revival's sheriff. On moving day, Sophie is greeted by her new next door neighbor and landlord, Ryder. Sophie assumes he's a "wild" man as he rides a Harley. Due to past experience, Sophie has dedicated her life to NOT making the wrong choices where men are concerned. She once "loved" a wild, dominating man who turned out to be VERY wrong for her. When he left her, it brought up all her abandonment issues she suffered as a child. So she thinks she needs a nice, stable guy--not Ryder.
Ryder was raised in a loving home with two parents and sisters. He moved to Revival to start over, become sheriff, and settle down. What he didn't expect, was to fall for someone like Sophie. She's a city girl, wild, sassy, and leaving in 6 months. She pushes every one of his buttons. When he's around Sophie, he can't help but agitate her. He finds it extremely easy to be himself with her, which disturbs him. Ryder vows to stay away from Sophie, but can he?
This was an AWESOME novel! It's fun, sassy, and witty. It makes your heart hurt for Sophie and Ryder. It's laugh out loud funny as well. It is in a series, but I didn't feel "lost" while reading it. I can't wait to go back and read Maddie and Penelope's stories. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
I have been a long time Jennifer Dawson fan and honestly this book was one of her best!! Her novels are synonymous with having loads of heat, humor and heart! Likewise she will always deliver a strong and sassy heroine that brings the hero to his knees and a hot and sexy alpha male that always has us squirming and swooning at the same time. I absolutely could not get enough of Ryder and Sophie and and all their sexy chemistry and banter.
When a work scandal forces Sophie Kincaid to relocate temporary to the small town of Revival with her reputation in tatters she doesn't know how she will cope with small town life after living in the big city. But with an aim to lick her professional wounds for six months until she can return to Chicago, after one glance at her HOT and Sexy neighbor and landlord, Ryder Moore, all her opinions of small town living go out the window. Gahhh the banter and chemistry between these two was INSANE!! They could not stay away from each other!! I was absolutely hooked on Sophie and Ryder as they both fought the push and pull towards one another thinking they needed calm and sensible to settle down with. But when they decided to just give in - WOW!! Pure Fireworks!!
All in all this was an amazinggg love story and I loved every second of it. I can't wait for more from this author in the future!
I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for an advanced e-copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
Enjoyable story about both two opposites that attract and yet also two people who have so much in common. As the teaser says, country and city, strapping and petite. And yet also both sassy and witty. Both wild behind doors but also starkly aware of how they view relationships differently. And sadly, a very stark difference in how they were raised by their parents which shapes their views on how a relationship works.
Can these two seemingly opposites find common ground? Can they fall in love and make it work?
As I said, this was an enjoyable story watching how their differences blend with their intense attraction to one another. Can they make it work? Very worth reading to find out!
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
when city girl sophia is forced to move to the small town of revival, illinois, she's not thrilled. when she meets her bad-boy, temptation-on-a-stick neighbor/landlord ryder she's even less so. not that she can really explain her visceral reaction to ryder.
the thing is, in head over heels, that visceral reaction is lust and sexual tension and chemistry and just pure heat. the tension between sophia and ryder crackles on every page, every scene they are together. nearly every interaction they have, no matter how antagonistic ends with them kissing each other so wildly that they nearly have sex while fully clothed in a room full of people. the world fades away and they are the only two who inhabit it.
i loved their relationship. i love how it grew from this insane, lust-filled haze to something deep and meaningful. sophia has always struggled with being a wild-child. her impulses and her open heart leading her to hurt, but ryder knows this and understands this about her. at one point he says he has no need to tame her, because he likes her wild. her wild feeds his. he becomes the person who knows her best. who loves her best. and it's not an easy path for them, they struggle and there is so much angst. but oh, there is so much love. it can't contain itself.
this one was such a good read. these two characters couldn't have been better matched.
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
When she loses her job because of a scandal, Sophie is forced to retreat
She finds herself in the small town of revival.
When crying over spilled Starbuck coffee, Sophie is trying to piece together what is left of her professional life.
Ryder was just trying to help a friend out.
How was he to know that his new neighbor was trouble w/ a capital " T. "
They chemistry is off the chart.
They try to deny the attraction, but it is no use.
Like the title said: they were head over heels in love w/ each other.
Love the banter between these two.
I discovered another new author.
QuickShot Review
I liked it. However, it is not among my favorite Dawson romances and I’m going to just say it - there were alot of shortcuts in this story which didn’t quite work for me. As a standalone, the story does just fine. Although heroes and heroines from earlier books make appearances, they don’t impact the main story so much that you need their history as well.
Now, Sophie and Ryder start off on the very wrong foot from the moment they meet. I can only guess that, because of the length of the story and the characters’ lack of history together, that there was a need to develop an antagonistic relationship quickly without a whole helluva lot of foundation. This approach didn’t quite gel for me, and even when things improved, I was still a little eye-rolley.
Now, I truly can appreciate a prickly heroine, but I need to understand the reason for that prickliness. Sophie starts off with a chip on her shoulder, making alot of assumptions and judgments, and unfortunately it just made me think she was childish and ridiculous.
However, when the focus was more on their attraction and acknowledgment that their bickering was simply sexual tension, the story picked up steam. There are plenty of moments I did enjoy, although I wished there was more of an emotional connection between them. They certainly wanted each other physically, so if you’re really into bickering/arguing between leads with loads of sexual chemistry, you may enjoy this.
Do you know the feeling you get at the beginning of a really awesome book? When you get sucked in after the first few pages and you just know it's going to check all your boxes? Witty banter. Off-the-charts chemistry. Swoony hero. Lots of heat. Self discovery and emotional growth. Amazing writing. This is a Jennifer Dawson novel, so I expected a great read, but Sophie and Ryder's story blew me away. Sophie temporarily moves to small-town Revival, needing to take a break from Chicago after a professional crisis. Ryder is the bad boy/good cop living next door. It's lust at first sight, but this city girl and country boy think each other is trouble and want to keep their distance. Their explosive chemistry and close proximity have them exploring a relationship while she's in town. But what will happen when the big city and a new job opportunity come knocking? I've loved every book in the Something New series, and Head Over Heels is fantastic. I hope we get to visit the small town of Revival again very soon!
Witty banter and a steamy romance - this book had everything I was looking for! Highly recommend!
Sophie Kincaid's PR career implodes, due to the actions of her boss at the firm she works for in Chicago. With her name tainted in the PR world, she decides she needs to lay low in small town Revival, Illinois. She is prepared to spend a boring 6 months with little to do... until her new neighbor rolls up and shatters her plans.
Ryder Moore takes one look at Sophie and can't look away... and then she opens her mouth, and he is infatuated. With their mutual antagonistic relationship, she is more fun than he has had with a woman in a long time. Now all he has to do is convince Sophie how great they would be together... even if it can only ever be temporary.
This book was awesome. I loved it all. Sophie is a strong, yet lightly damaged woman. She takes one look at Ryder and knows he is trouble, so she goes on the immediate offensive to him so he will keep his distance. But, her plan backfires when Ryder enjoys their sparring immensely. Ryder loves small town life, his family is nearby and he has everything he could ask for... except a woman who wants to settle down with him. Although he knows Sophie has no plans that would coincide with settling down in Revival, he can't stop himself from pursuing her.
With immensely entertaining banter, scorching sexual tension, hot sex and fantastic characters, this book was the complete package, and a highly recommended read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Jennifer Dawson takes us back to Revival, Illinois in this fantastic opposites attracts story that had me laughing and swooning at the same time. It's a great small town romance as city girl Sophie Kincaid finds herself inexplicably drawn to small town guy Ryder Moore. Yes, he's the bad boy type she's always found attractive but she's sworn off that type so why is he getting under her skin? She's only in Revival because her professional life imploded and she needs this job to get her footing. Ryder knows just the type of woman Sophie Kincaid is and he'll just have to deal with her for the short term lease she has on his house. Her beauty and snarky mouth will have no affect on him. At. All! Ok, maybe a little. What would a little fun with the city girl hurt??
A great read and one I highly recommend. Although part of a series this is easily read standalone.
3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. I liked it but I didn't love it. This is Sophie and Ryder's story. Sophie loses her high profile PR job when her boss goes to prison for embezzlement. Her connection with him and his company make her a professional pariah. So she moves to the small town of Revival, where one of her best friends lives, to get a short term job with the local government. She thinks she is way too good for the small town and will die of boredom. Sophie is counting down the days until she can move back to Chicago. But she soon meets her hot cop neighbor and things start to get interesting. Sophie doesn't want to get involved with him, but sparks fly and neither of them can help themselves. They spend time together and start to fall for each other. But real life intrudes and Sophie must make a decision- love with a small town cop or a lonely, but busy workaholic life in the city.
The main reason I didn't love this book was because of Sophie's behavior. From the very minute she met Ryder, she hated him because he was hot. She acted like a total bitch. It took me a long time to get into the book (about 30%) until I started to enjoy it. But once Sophie and Ryder kissed, I liked them together and felt their chemistry. I still felt like their was too much silly back and and forth behavior and wishy-washyness on Sophie's part. She was very immature acting and liked to play games. At 50%, she was still saying she hated Ryder. I was really hoping she would start acting like a grown up, but she really never did. Her behavior was childish throughout the whole book and she never really improved. I didn't hate her character, but she frustrated me. I liked Ryder a lot. He was pretty much perfect. I felt bad for the way Sophie acted towards him. To me, this book was way angstier than it needed to be for such a simple story. However, I did like the story a lot. I liked the small town atmosphere and Sophie's close friendships. The writing was pretty good. I am curious about the other books in the series and I may read them later.
I have read and enjoyed the Undone series by Ms. Dawson. I must say that I enjoyed those books more, but it could just be because of Sophie's character in this book. Overall, this was not a bad book, even if I didn't totally love it. However, it was still worth reading and I did enjoy it for the most part.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So I'll be honest. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but I didn't need to. Yes there are other characters who obviously have stories told previously but it doesn't hinder your understanding. All it did was make me really want to marathon this series and find out all about the others!
Sophie is trying to get her head around being stuck in a small town for 6 months after being driven out of Chicago by scandal. She just wants to keep her head down and get her job done. She doesn't need a distraction. But that's exactly what she finds in her neighbour and landlord, Ryder. I loved Ryder. Tall, dark, handsome and cheeky. The banter between Ryder and Sophie is great and I loved watching their relationship develop. Sophie knows she has to keep her distance. She's fallen for the bad boy before and it ended in tears. She won't let that happen to her again.
Ryder knows he should leave Sophie alone. She is all kinds of trouble and he doesn't need that in his life anymore. But he just can't keep away and loves to wind her up. Soon enough the chemistry is too much to deny but can the city girl and small town boy ever have a happy ending? Add to the mix their crazy friends and this is a fun read. If you're looking for a giggle, with sizzling chemistry and banter definitely give this a go.
Ms. Dawson has a talent more magnetic than seduction. Her knack to find humor in moments that are not always humorous is why I keep coming back for more. Within the pages of her tempting novels are morsels of optimism that touch the heart and characters that set hormones raging. Head over Heels is an alluring opposites attract tale of intriguing romance and emotional upheaval. Ryder and Sophie can bring out the worst in each other, but that thunder is morphing into something neither thought possible. LOVE! Jennifer Dawson keeps readers guessing with addictive and entertaining tales of romance.
I'm usually not a fan of insta-lust, but at least Ryder and Sophie had some banter going on and "faux-hate", as I like to call it. It was fun reading about their relationship and how they couldn't stay away from each other. Ryder's love for Sophie tugged at my heartstrings when he made that crucial decision. These two were meant for each other.
