Lovely book cover. Fell in love with it. And pleased to say that i enjoyed the stories also. 3 different stories, enjoyed each and everyone of them. lovely festive read for this christmas
Perfect stories to welcome in the Christmas season. Each story gives the reader another glimpse into different Amish communities. By having three different authors include stories in one book makes it a special treat for readers. Highly recommended!
What I enjoyed most about this collection of Amish Christmas novellas was that each story was as unique and different as its author’s voice and style. Kelly Long’s SNOW SHINE ON ICE MOUNTAIN carries a bit of sweet heat as a candle shop becomes a sensual place. Gray Fisher is Ice Mountain’s Amish version of a bad boy ladies’ man who meets his match in the plain and proper candle-maker Naomi Gish. A HONEYBEE CHRISTMAS is the story of a middle-aged couple and is filled with humor in the eccentric character of Bitsy Kiem and Yost Weaver who tries to make her see the straight and narrow. THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE by Lisa Jones Baker was my personal favorite with its old fashioned sweetness and charm. I loved Lisa’s heartwarming characterizations and could really feel the Christmas spirit, much more so than in the other stories. A red cinnamon scented candle in the window shines a blessing on the less fortunate in the form of fresh-baked cinnamon rolls. When John King comes to Lydia’s rescue, a firm friendship is forged, but with Lydia being Amish and John a Mennonite, can friendship ever lead to anything more?
This is a book of three stories revolving around a candle. A little different, not a bad read. If you like happy endings this would be a good book to read.
THE AMISH CHRISTMAS CANDLE by Kelly Long, Jennifer Backstrand,Lisa. Jones Baker. Kensington Books
SNOW SHINE ON ICE MOUNTAIN by Kelly Long Naomi has a candle shop; her elderly father it is moonshine. Even to hiring someone to work in the store, as a cover for his moonshine business. Will there be the business of love for these two people. Enjoyable of two young people realizing their love.
A HONEYBEE. CHRISTMAS by Jennifer Beckstrand Life for. Bitsy was raising her three nieces, in the plain way. Would there be a chance for love, and life for her now. A delightful story of love, and happiness, when she thought she had lost her chance.
THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE by Lisa Jones Baker. Lydia, wants help and maybe love at this time of year. John cinnamon rolls from his bakery, and a ride home. Maybe the beginning of the help and love they both want. All three of these stories are a delight to read and enjoy, anytime of year. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was a cute Christmas book with three stories of Amish people.
The Amish Christmas Candle is a collection of three short stories- Snow Shine on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long, A Honeybee Christmas by Jennifer Beckstrand and The Christmas Candle by Lisa Jones Baker. Each story takes a Christian perspective on the holiday and emphasizes the candle as a prominent symbol of God’s light in the world.
Throughout the stories the characters learn to trust God to help them overcome what they see as their shortcomings. At times, the changes are seen as true Christmas miracles. All of stories are focused on making candles to sell or use for special Christmas celebrations. The characters are all changed in some way due to their interactions with candles. There is romance throughout the stories as well as heartbreak and humor, at times I laughed out loud! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give it 5 of 5 stars. The characters come alive and you are never sure whether they will overcome or meet their deadlines until the end; very nicely written to keep the reader wanting more. I recommend this book to all who like a light Christmas story with the aforementioned characteristics.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
The Amish Christmas Candle is a great collection. Not my overall favorite. The stories are more modern living than the Amish way of living. I did enjoy how each character found happiness, hope, love, and healing.
Snow Shine on Ice Mountain by Kelly Long is a sweet yet inspiring Amish romance. Two young people who learn what love really is. Gray realizes love is peace and he's never felt peace with any other girl except for Naomi. Naomi is a bit older than gray and very plain looking. But her heart, mind, and soul, are worthy of any man's heart. Gray comes to realize that Naomi is the one. Naomi starts to feel like a wanted woman with Gray. But can she trust her heart to him? Kelly Long's short story felt believable. It wasnt like other Amish tales I've read. Most wouldn't allow the things that each character did without a chaperone or without some kind of consequence. However, it was sweet, engaging, and heartfelt. Gray not only finds peace but love and healing, too.
A Honeybee Christmas by Jennifer Beckstrand is another entertaining short story. I liked how one English woman left her way of life to raise her three nieces as Amish women. That took a lot of strength, determination, and power. Imagine leaving the life you have now, to live a plain simple one...I don't think I could do it. I may enjoy it, but I would miss a lot of things. The writer brought an untraditional tale and still gave it a heart tugging feeling. I warmed up to the main characters. Overall, it was realistic and a great adventure.
The Christmas Candle by Lisa Jones Baker is the last Amish tale inside this collection. I felt the Christmas holiday sweeping over me. The pages went by quickly. Excitement rushed through me as I read every page. Filling me with a sweetness that I couldn't let go. The main characters were enjoyable to follow. Both having faith in God. This story was more traditional in the Amish setting than the previous tales before it. I really loved this one. Giving back to the community, learning to trust, and not giving up hope are great themes found, here. Lisa Jones Baker created a piece that I fell in love with...overall, I highly recommend reading The Christmas Candle to all.
This is a great collection of Christmas stories, each with it's own moral. My personal favorite was the Beckstrand, but that's mostly because I've read all of the other Honeybee Sisters books. (I got the feeling that the other two short stories were also related to a series, as well.) You don't need to have read the series, however, to understand and appreciate the stories. The characters are fully introduced, and they have separate plot lines. You'll just get a deeper appreciation for their struggles, if you've already read the other parts of the series. Three great novellas for the Christmas season!
