I loved this book! I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. There are a lot of twists and turns that kept me reading. There is a wonderful mixture of mystery, suspense, friendship, and romance for a well-balanced story. If you love cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book, and can't wait for the next book in the series.

ook three in the Book Barn Mystery series. I think I might be falling in love with the armadillo Princess. She is the cutest character in the book and the most amazing personality when it seems to be important though I would move into the Book Barn given half a chance. For this installment Charli is helping her cousin launch a new book type app that will benefit both him and the store itself. Shortly after the announcement though strange "accidents" start happening to Charli that start to make people ask questions. When dead bodies start showing up as well some of them demand that the app is turned off. The development of this story is very well structured smoothly transitioning from one scene to the next keeping the reader hooked. The characters are all full of life making them easy to get attached to and I will admit that I am so team Mateo at this point. Charli really needs to let ex-boyfriend go already as he so has some personal issues. Overall this is a really good cozy mystery novel that I highly recommend to fans of the genre as it very well written with a nice surprise ending. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.

Charli reluctantly agrees to launch her cousin's new app, The Book Seeker, which will promote The Book Barn and, everyone hopes, increase business for the store and the new app. A best-selling mystery author has agreed to lend her name to the launch and come to the Barn for a book-signing. But when the app is launched, deaths start to occur – deaths which mimic the homicides from the author's popular series.

This series gets better with every book, and it has become one of my must-read series. I love the characters and the way they interact with one another. The town, and especially the Book Barn, sound like places I would love to visit, and I'd love to meet Princess. The mysteries are well-written, with plenty of suspects and possible motives, and the reveals have been surprising. I have already added the next in the series to my to-read list, and have made a note to look for it next spring.

OMW the princesses x 2 are back! I love Hazel Rock and all its cookie inhabitants! We get to meet more of Charli's relatives, one of whom has developed an app for book lovers (think Pokemon for books!) There are more murderous mysteries to solve and of course there is still the romantic entanglements with Cade and Mateo to sort through!

We also get to see out favourite supporting characters again. Scarlet and Dalton are still gong strong and of course Jessie and his wife! JC is still interfering and getting up in everyone's business too. A certain pink armadillo finds herself in a spot of bother too and I will admit to being a bit teary at one point. She may be a smelly rodent to some eyes but she is MY smelly rodent thank you very much!

Needless to say there are twists, turns and red herrings to sieve through and yet again I couldn't figure out whodunnit (not a good advertisement for my dayjob LOL!) I'm not going to spill the entire plot so no spoilers here but I will say that Charli has a date or three and I'm glad she has finally made a decision! This girl moves glacially slow, which is great for the series but is hell on my nerves! I want to buy a hat for a wedding and tickets to Hazel Rock for the nuptials but I have a funny feeling I'm going to be waiting a lot longer than I want to!

Long may this series continue!!!!

Perilous Poetry in the third book in the A Book Barn Mystery series.

I like visiting Hazel Rock to see what exciting adventures Princess and her friends are up to and this visit was no exception.

Charli Rae, a.k.a. Princess is busy checking in a shipment of books and begins to wonder why there are so many copies of the latest Midnight Poet Society Mystery series by Lucy Barton. The thought gets answered when her cousin, Jamal, surprises her with a visit. Jamal is quite the gamer and has come up with an app called The Book Seekers and is sure to bring more customers to the Book Barn. Jamal had developed the app with the help of Barton’s daughter, Juicy Killer, her gaming name. One of the early supporters of the app is Penelope Calloway, mother of the Mayor and wife of the former Mayor, and can’t wait to start collecting books with her app. But soon she is calling and screaming that she has found a body of a man with an ax in his chest. Penelope’s husband is leading a group that is calling for the app to be shut down not until there is what appears to be an attempt on Jamal does the pressure to shut down the app begins to lighten up.

Charli, after an attempt on her life, knows she needs to set back and review what has been going on an come up with the killer and save her cousin’s app.

I enjoy all the characters who are all well-developed and believable. I do have a problem with Charli. In baseball after three strikes you are out and, I feel, it is time for her to give up on her former high school sweetheart, Cade Calloway. I think she might see the writing on the wall, but she needs to take a stand, one way of the other.

I will be watching for the next book in the series.

Points for the pink armadillo! The murders in this Texas based cozy may be a bit more than in some cozys but they balance what can sometimes be a bit twee. Charli, our heroine, is thrilled when Lucy brings her new mystery to debut at the Book Barn but it turns out, of course, that there's more challenges to come. This is well written and nicely twisty. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You'll like this if you enjoy the genre.

So, as I mentioned above, I read this book then realized I also had book two, the previous book, on my Kindle so I dove right into it. I requested this one for review because the blurb was appealing. I enjoy the downhome charm and quirky characters. Quirky can be iffy for me in books as often the characters are so quirky as to be A) unbelievable and B) annoying. Fortunately Roberts didn't fall into that trap and the characters are endearingly quirky.

Charli, AKA Princess, has been working with her father at the family bookstore and slowly building business up. Then her cousin develops an app that can help her business, and oh boy, it's a fun app. Why doesn't this app exist in real life and if it does, someone please point me in the right direction. Anyway, murders begin happening around town and they're based on murders from the popular Midnight Poet Society mystery series but using the app. Soon Princess is up to her neck trying to help her cousin, solve the murders, stay in the sheriff's good graces, and figure out her love life. The sooner she does the latter, the happier I'll be. I have little patience for love triangles in romances; I have even less when they're in mysteries unless they're part of the mystery. Apart from that, and how annoying Cade the mayor is, I enjoyed the story. I especially enjoyed Princess's aunt Violet, her cousin Jamal, and the sheriff, Mateo. I loved seeing their interactions, especially the familial ones. They also added depth to the story.

Once again, Roberts made good use of the bookstore as well as events such as author readings and signings. And I want a Mystery Moms group by me though since I'm not a mom, it would need to be a non-mom version.

Twists and turns, action, romance, books and book lovers, mysteries, "Perilous Poetry" just about had it all. The Book Mysteries are quirky, fun, engaging cozy mysteries.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Charli way is such a great character, loving smart and a great friend. I really like the friendship between her and Scarlet, the are best friends that would do anything for the other one: comfort, rejoice, even call each other out if that is what is needed. We should all have a friend like that. The secondary characters are also well developed and added a lot to the story. I must say that I want Charli to make up her mind about what man she wants to be with, it is getting old.

The author is very talented is her descriptive writing and through most of the book I felt like I was right there watching all of the action taking place and listening in on conversations. The small town descriptions seemed very realistic and Hazel Rock is a place I would like to visit. I really like the setting of The Book Barn Princess and if it were a real place, I would visit it.

The mystery was carried on well throughout the book and was not easily solved. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through that even the most seasoned armchair detective would have trouble solving it.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I really enjoyed this book and this series. It has everything you could want in a cozy mystery, including a pink armadillo.

Book three of the Book Barn Mysteries and I'm still impressed with the way the story is told and the characters that fill the pages. Charli is quite settled into running her family's independent bookstore run out of a renovated barn in Hazel Rock, Texas - her relationship with her father is strong again and she has her place in the community. She isn't really looking to change too much or really promote the store in any particular way - but little does she know what is waiting round the corner.

Enter stage left the two people that supported her when she ran from Hazel Rock as a broken-hearted teenager, her aunt Violet and cousin, Jamal. Jamal has developed an app that he believes will change his life as well as Charli's - The Book Seekers. This app allows people to solve clues while learning about books encouraging them to go to the local bookstore, in this case, The Book Barn and hopefully spend money. In no time at all, it appears that the app is a huge success and is going to profit Jamal and Charli. But this couldn't be a 'Book Barn Mystery' without a few dead bodies and they start turning up and appear to be connected to the app as well as a series of mystery books written by Lucy Barton, a famous mystery writer, who just happens to be launching a new book at The Book Barn. Someone is using the 'Midnight Poet Society' books as a blueprint for murders and it is not going to end well. Charli finds herself in the thick of things and not sure who she needs to defend first - her cousin, herself even Princess (her pet armadillo) comes under fire getting in the way of a stray bullet.

I just really enjoy these books and this one is no exception. The characters are so interesting and connect to each other in a myriad of ways. It was super to meet Charli's aunt and cousin as it filled in some of the spaces from books one and two. All the townsfolk are 'real' people and you can't help but want to grab a coffee and set in the Book Barn and sit awhile to see what unfolds. I have to admit I'm getting to the stage where I may have to bump off Cade so that Mateo finally get his woman - it was so close in this book so I'm pretty sure I will get my happy ending very soon. If you haven't had the chance to go to Hazel Rock yet and spend some time with Charli then start with book one because it's worth the effort. If you have been hanging out in Hazel Rock before then don't miss the opportunity for a repeat visit - you won't be disappointed.

This is the third book of the Book Barn Mystery series but the first book by Kym Roberts that I have read. What a fun book it is though! It was not a problem to follow what was going on. Ms. Roberts does a good job giving background information about the characters. I really enjoyed the cozy mystery feel to the book with the quirky characters, including the pet pink armadillo, of the small town setting of Hazel Rock, Texas.

Things go from routine to crazy after Charli's cousin Jamal and his mom, Violet, talk Charli and Bobby Ray into hosting a book signing party for Lucy Barton, a popular mystery writer. Jamal has developed a book seekers app that would send customers around town looking for clues to Ms. Barton's books that could lead to prizes at the book signing party. All for fun but would help Jamal get his app on the map and the bookstore as well. Win-win. But things go awry when a body shows up at the site of one of the clues and is discovered by someone looking for clues on the app. When the bodies pile up, local town leaders want to shut the app down but Jamal and gang fight to keep it up. Perilous Poetry is a fun cozy mystery with non stop action, lots of possible suspects, well developed and colorful characters, danger, invasion of the Mystery Moms book club and sweet tea. I recommend this book for a great escape read that will keep the pages turning.

I absolutely loved this book, it's the best one in the series by far. I enjoy all the colorful characters in this book and Charli and Scarlet are my favorite.
I would love to actually have the Book Keeper app, how fun would it be to find books and add to a shelf in the game? I would play just for the sake of finding the clues and looking for the books.

All mystery lovers should be prepared to be wowed by Perilous Poetry, I know I was.

Love this series, especially the pet armadillo. Charli always seems to find trouble since her return to town and the Princess Book Barn. Helping out family puts her in harms way. She really does need to stop focusing on her past love and look towards the future.

Everybody calls a grown woman Princess like she's still a kid. I got sick of that.
Princess is in the middle of a love triangle. I got sick of that.
This is the 3rd in a series that I didn't start from the beginning. It's not necessary, because there are reminders of Princess's past every five seconds or so. I got sick of that.

Before I was halfway through the book, I'd grown tired of every character and every situation. There's a lot of irk instead of quirk. Nothing seemed fresh about this. There wasn't anything that engaged me enough to want to read further in this series.

That's a huge disappointment, because cozy mysteries are comfort reads for me. Usually I can settle in and finish the book in one sitting and (mostly) enjoy it. That didn't happen here.

Sometimes good things go bad. Charli is making the book barn a success and when her cousin comes up with an app to put it on the map to the rest of the country she is reluctant at first but goes for it. Only the clues in the app bring real life murders and it seems a lot of people in town's lives are in danger including Charli's

This one really kept me guessing as to who the culprit was. I am loving this series and it's a lot of fun in a small Texas town.

Perilous Poetry is the third book in the Book Barn mystery series. It's also the first book which I've read in the series and all necessary back-story was written into the story. I didn't have any trouble following the characters or finding out how they related to one another.

The characters are well written and fleshed out. The story itself is appealing. There are some quirky characteristics which some readers might find annoying. Scarlet (the main character's best friend) constantly says O.M.W. which is apparently shorthand for Oh, My Word, even though OMW has more syllables and takes longer to say than oh, my word (or just my word, or heck, change it up and say my stars and garters occasionally). For a cozy, the murders are fairly graphic. Not extremely so, or offputting, but somewhat out there. One of the plot elements has to do with a phone app, and the language and characterizations of the coders/computer geeks bordered on 'too much'. The main character is also distractingly damsel-in-distress-ish.

It's a cozy mystery romance, so obviously there aren't long passages of difficult dialogue and depressing themes. It's cozy. It's lightly romantic. It's wholesome. I really loved the pet armadillo (and bonus points to the author for tossing an obligatory message in there about people not owning exotic animals, well done).

If I get to a lull in my TBR pile, I'll check out the previous books in the series.

I love this series! Princess is such a great character with a big personality. I loved how complex and twisty the main mystery was with so many different motivations and possible culprits. It's well written and fun to read.

The latest Book Barn Mystery by Kym Roberts is a crisp, engaging mystery that is filled with suspense as Charli Rae tries to identify a serial killer. All the regular and delightful characters in Hazel Rock, TX are back, with a few new ones added. There is a growth in Charli Rae that is appealing, and the series just keeps getting better. I look forward to many more!
