A cosy theatrical mystery. Had me guessing several different different people before the reveal.
Will leave a review on Amazon under name of Connie
My first venture into this series and planning on adding this series to my list as it is a great read with solid writing and characters that drawn you into the town and the story, but kept you guessing until the end.
Traut provides an entertaining tale of greed, betrayal and murder in a small town setting. The characters are real and draw you in to their lives, challenging you to root for the romance budding between the police chief and heroine, the disrupted play that might break the town theater, and the wrongly accused murder suspect who came to town to flee an unwanted past.
Always a solid whodunit. I really enjoy this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I got this book for my mum who only really reads cosy mysteries but I also read it myself and we weren't disappointed. It was a fast paced storyline and good characters and would definitely recommend to people who are looking for a new author or just a great book in this genre.
'Running Out of Time' by Suzanne Trauth is a thoughtful cozy, with an edge. There are still all of the likeable characters in Etonville, NJ, but this latest offering in the Dodie O'Dell Mystery series has an added depth that provides for a suspenseful and intriguing mystery. There is still the light touch of humor and romance, but the mystery was engaging and draws one in completely. I'm looking forward to many more!
Dodie O'Dell is the manager of the Windjammer restaurant in Etonville, New Jersey and for the past several years she has worked with the local theater company to prepare meals that mesh with their productions. This year the theater group is performing Eton Town, a revolutionary war adaptation of Our Town. Sally,a newcomer to town, is helping with the preparations for the concession stand and one day when she and Dodi are leaving the restaurant after baking concessions she is startled when she sees a man standing across the street. Later during the opening night Dodie finds Sally standing backstage with what looks like blood on her costume. Sally quickly runs away and then Dodie trips over a body looking much like the mysterious man they saw previously, only this time he has a knife sticking out of his chest. Much to the chagrin of her boyfriend Bill, the local police chief, Dodie once again puts her investigative skills to good use in unmasking the perpetrator. This book is nicely written and easy to read with enjoyable characters, a quirky town setting and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing all the way through.
