This is the first novel I've read by this author, and it's the start of a new series, and since I've complained in the past about the difficulty of starting to read a book and finding that it's in the middle of series, I was very eager to read this one. The blurb sounded right up my alley too--a wealthy head of a multi-million dollar corporation goes missing when his boat is discovered floating in the middle of the bay. Did he drown? Did he fall overboard? Did he meet with foul play? As his smart and spunky daughter, Devon, races to the marina, two thugs try to run her off the road and then threaten her, although she has no idea what they want, and who should come to her rescue but an ex-military, handsome hunk of a professional bodyguard who's almost immediately attracted to her. Sounds good, doesn't it?

I wish I could say that the aforementioned was the start of a non-stop thrill ride of a read, but I can't. From that point onward, I felt that the plot floundered somewhat. The two lead characters, Logan and Devon, were hit by insta-love, and if not that, insta-lust, far too soon. I'm sorry, but I simply cannot believe that after having explosive and graphic sex the day they meet and while Devon has no idea whether or not her father is alive, they're in love with each other by day two. The seemingly endless internal dialogue didn't move the story forward either, and there was little in the way of character development. Logan is still blaming himself unnecessarily for the death of his first love, Amanda, while carrying on with Devon. He's a grown man and people die and his constant references to his guilt over Amanda's death and being a failure at love were both irritating and pathetic.

As for the rest of the plot, it was very predictable. Devon's father found himself an unwitting dupe in a plan to use his company as a way to launder money for a drug and weapons cartel. He disappears with vital information and the head of the cartel wants to find him, and he will have no problem using his daughter, Devon, as leverage. How on earth could any father leave his daughter so ignorant of the peril she's facing? The fact that he left her clueless and helpless made no sense whatsoever. As the peril mounts, the book does pick up some momentum, but it was too little, too late.

Additionally, secondary characters are brought in, who, I imagine, will figure strongly in upcoming books in this series, but none of them managed to intrigue me to the point at which I was eager to read more about them. Then there were the bad guys, and their many attempts to capture Devon and bring her to the head of the cartel. They were simply too clueless, bumbling and clumsy to be believed. Yes, Devon was in danger, but these guys were more like the Keystone Kops, and, as such, failed repeatedly to capture her. The head of the cartel was also laughable, his standard operation procedure was to kill anyone who failed to do his bidding, and at the rate he was going, it was surprising that he had any underlings left.

I'm uncertain as to whether it was the writer's style, the predictable plot, the lack of forward momentum, the insta-love, or my lack of connection to the main characters that were responsible for the fact that I kept wanting to skim entire chapters of this novel. I didn't give in to that impulse, and when I finally got to the end of this book, I felt that the finale was rather abrupt and also lacked depth. I truly hope the author and/or her editor, spend more time on character and plot development in the next novel in this series.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Hide and Seek is a good start to what apparently will be a series.

Devon's father has disappeared and people are coming after her to find information they think he has. But, the people coming after her don't expect her to be protected by Logan Malik and his private security company, Vigilance. And when Logan's protection of Devon turns into more than just bodyguard and client, will it help or harm Devon's life? In Devon's case, it helps. It helps to have a strong, skilled protector. And just as important, it helps to have a man who's falling for her just as she's falling for him.

I found both Devon and Logan to be likable, interesting characters. Devon is not a wimpy, fall apart kind of woman and yet she appreciates the strength and comfort Logan offers her. Logan has some demons he's working through, but they just add to his character. And their chemistry is hot without it overwhelming the central mystery/plot point of the story.

There's also a good cast of secondary cast in Logan's fellow security agents, and they give Hide and Seek a well-rounded feel. I'm hoping that the rest of this series will be stories featuring them. If they end up being as interesting as Hide and Seek, I'll definitely be reading them.

I loved this book. Devon and Logan's story is filled with hot sex, drama, action, and love. The characters are well written and driven. They are three dimensional and interact with each other and the other characters in a real life way. The writing is great and had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

What a way to start a series, I love that the badass Vigilance is run by a female! The characters are great the puzzle of the storyline was interesting and this book was fast and it was hard to put down.

When things fall apart in Devon's life her friends in Arrowhead Bay are there for her in a very big way and that includes Logan.

Her father has disappeared, she's been run off the road, shot at, and she is barely holding it together. Luckily Logan and Vigilance is there for her!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This one is definitely one of my fav suspense romance books.
A hot Vigilance agent (an ex-Marine) met a damsel in distress. I'm a sucker for ex-Marine, so this book got my name written all over it.
This book hit me with suspense and mystery from the beginning, so many actions and thrills through this book and plenty questions that need answers.
All those things make this book unputdownable.

As for characters, I loveeeeee Logan, I always love when Mr. Ice Box melting and don't know what to do because of love, and when a tough hard man like him fall in love, he'll do anything to protect the one he loves.
And Devon, she's not your typical damsel in distress, she's strong, smart and determined to find all the answers to crazy messed up things that happened to her. I admire this girl.
I love this couple, I love those flirty banters, it always bring a big smile to my face, and their connection is so full of passion. Yesss I love this couple.

I love the story, love the twist, love the characters, loveeee everything.
I can't wait to read what's next in this series.

If you love suspense romance or even if you're not, this one is A MUST-READ. You must read this book.

With an intriguing start, the story hooked my mind and I was looking forward to experiencing this new author to me with the new series.
And it was a good story. I think maybe my expectations were too high since both the romance and suspense left a little to be desired in my mind. At times it felt like the twists in the plot, or the plot itself could have used a little more thought or stronger hand with editing.
The sex scenes were detailed, there was no lack of intimacy there, yet I felt unconnected to the hero and heroine, and was left wondering if their felt connected to each other at all. From the very first chapter, Logan feels his attraction towards Devon as he is battling with 'his cock stiffened' while Devon is in great danger. So there is an undeniable, strong physical attraction there. From that scene, I also realized that maybe the writing style of this author is not so much for me.
There are insights to the main characters and their thoughts by constant inner battles and reflections. I admit some of the angst Logan created in his head was a bit tiresome.
I liked Devon Cole, she was cool under pressure, she manages herself well, she knows what she wants, and is not afraid to go after it. And Logan Malik was likable as well, but the previous heartbreak was still a large part of his emotional map and had a great effect on his decisions.
I think the series itself got a great setup in here. The secondary characters peeked interest, at times more so than the main characters in this book. So I would say that Hide and Seek was a good start for a new series, it was exciting and thought-provoking, for sure.

Devon had been run off the road and threatened by two thugs about her father. Then she finds out he is missing and she has no idea where he is. Then a good samaritan comes along to help her and it turns out to be Logan who is a bodyguard in the Vigilance Security Agency Devon realizes someone is after her. Devon is a strong independant woman. Logan realizes Devon is in danger he is hired to protect her. Logan and Devon have a hot chemistry. Devon and Logan work on finding her father and what happened to him. Logan and Devon have a hot chemistry but Logan is leery of getting involved with a client as he worries he won’t be able to protect her as well if there is a personal involvement. Devon and her father weren’t very close but it was her father’s choice. He had been pulling away and acting strangely recently. .Devon worries she is a replacement for Logan’s lost love. Logan blames himself for his deceased girlfriend's death. Devon starts getting threatening calls, break ins, and thugs seeking information on her father.
I liked this story a lot. I didn’t want to put this down as I wanted to see what is going to happen next. This book had : danger, mystery, romance, drama, suspense, surprises, humor, action. Threats, hpt chemistry, guilt, secrets, and a lot more This story did feel realistic This definitely keeps your interest all the way through this book. At times you are on the edge of your seat. I was glad for the backstory. I felt this had a good plot and pace. I enjoyed the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Devon gets a concerning message about her Father. This leads her into danger and turns her life upside down. Her friend sets her up with security detail.
Logan's past created who he is today true to his job and detailed to protect. He is the best person for the job. Unfortunately this detail turns more personal than he likes.

This book reads very fast. It sucks you in and leaves you satisfied.

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
He father disappeared, and Devon is not sure what to do.
When she is threatened, Logan is assigned to protect her.
He had a strict rule of never getting involved w/ a client.
That rule went out the window.
Logan cannot resist his attraction to Devon.
They end up together, but the threat is not over.
Will Devon + Logan be able to defeat this evil and rescue her father?
It has a lot of action, danger, drama, romance, and hotness.

It has been awhile since I have read a Desiree Holt book and was able to get this to read for review thanks to Netgalley and the publisher. This was a really good read, and I guess I’m a little surprised by how involved the storyline was. This was a good romantic suspense novel and I enjoyed every minute of it. It begins with a bang, and doesn’t let up. Devon finds out that her father is missing and hurries to south Florida to try to help piece together what happened. She almost gets run off the road, and Logan, who works for the Vigilance Security Agency comes to her rescue! They immediately have an attraction that they both fight somewhat, but I certainly wouldn’t say this was a Slow Burn Romance. They acknowledge their attraction and go from there. There is good action to this story. I truly enjoyed it and will look forwarding to reading the next book in this series.

Hide and Seek is the first in an exciting new series by the fabulous Desiree Holt. This is a sexy, sweet and fast-paced romantic suspense. Devon is no shrinking violet and Logan is hot as can be but my favorite character from this story is Avery, the head of Vigilance, which bodes well for this series. If you like bodyguard romance this will be right up your alley.

This is a fast moving suspense thriller that will keep you at the edge of your seat start to finish.

When her father disappears presumed dead, Devyn rushes to the scene only to find herself under threat and attack.  As the police investigation proceeds and evidence mounts against her father, Devyn refuses to believe him guilty of the crimes that appear to be laid at his door.   With Logan Malik who is in the right place at the right time to protect Devyn the first time her life is threatened she is determined to find the truth behind the secrets life that her father apparently lived.
This is a fast paced story where Logan, Devyn and the team at Vigilance barely keep one step ahead of the bad guys while they feverishly work to uncover the truth behind money laundering, mob connections and other illegal activities that threaten the safety and sanity of Devyn's life.  If the suspense isn't spicy enough, the author throws in the spice of Logan and Devyn's relationship to keep the readers from getting bored.
I'm disappointed that there seem to be only two books slated for this series but can't wait to see how the next book in the series plays out.

Wow, poor Devon walked into a mess when her father faked his death. Fortunately, readers find out that Graham Cole is not really dead but hiding out thinking that he was protecting his daughter, but drug lords aren’t that forgiving.

Good thing for Devon that Logan came along when she was run off the road by drug cartel underlings and stayed around to protect her.

You get a vague sense of who is the man that roped an unwitting Graham into the cartel so it was not too much of a surprise when he is revealed. What is surprising is how far back the betrayal goes and the length that betrayal involved.

I really enjoy romances that have a bit of extra mystery or drama involved so this was a great book for me and kept me involved so much that it was hard to put the book down!

Really good start to this new series by Desiree Holt. Interesting storyline full of suspense, drama, romance and even a couple of twists thrown in. What more can you ask for in a romantic suspense story? Great chemistry between our hero/heroine Logan and Devon with some hot sexy times included. Devon held it together pretty well considering she was in a great deal of danger and going through hell from the realization about what her father had gotten himself into. Logan is assigned to protect her and his biggest concern is that he can really protect her from everything especially since he now has some serious feelings for her.
I enjoyed this book very much and I look forward to the next one.

Hide and Seek is a promising start to a new series by Desiree Holt. With the danger, mystery and intrigue we have come to love with Ms Holt’s stories this series is sure to be another winner. I enjoyed Devon & Logan but feel at times secondary character were more prominent. I look forward to reading more of this series.

3 1/2 Star Review......

Hide and Seek was a good first in the series with danger, mystery and intrigue too; however I did find myself drawn more to the secondary characters Graham and Lindsay, than the main couple in this story.

I enjoyed the organisation and layout of the story, and like where the series is heading, so I’ll definitely be looking out for book two.

Devon has never taken much of an interest in her fathers company. But when he goes missing, she rushes back to Arrowhead Bay to get answers. When she manages to land herself smack in the middle of danger, a twist of fate leads a knight in shining, bulletproof truck to her rescue!

Logan is an agent with Vigilance, a local private security agency, run by the sister of the local Sheriff. As a known entity to Devon she accepts his help when she is accosted by strangers. Soon wrapped in a cocoon of safety Devon digs further into her fathers business dealings and does not like what she finds. But the Cartel is not ready to let go of her father just yet...but is he dead or has he somehow managed to escape to anonymity?

I loved out imperfect hero. Logan struggles with guilt over the death of his previous girlfriend and as he falls deep and hard for Devon, his old worries resurface that he won't be good enough to save her. Devon is capable and determined, just out of her depth when dealing with Drug Cartels! Great read and adrenaline pumping scenes.

Devon's dad has isolated himself from her since her mother died. Even so, she goes directly to his home when he goes missing and could be dead. Once there, one incident after another threatens her life and menacing characters are all around. Logan is there, though, to protect her and help figure out what happened to her father.

This was a good story with some implausible moments. After reading some other stories from this author, I knew this would be well-written and I wasn't disappointed.
