This is an entertaining series.
I want things to go well for the main character, but enjoy her twists and turns.
The major twist here is her ex-fiance is the murder victim! And she just had a very public fight with him before he dies.
Ooops.
This series has great potential but the love triangle just drives me crazy. Well written mystery even great character development just hate the while love triangle.
I am not new to this series at all, I have been fortunate enough to have been reviewing these books from the very start. I was immediately interested in this series because the first book was deemed "perfect for Janet Evanovich fans", which I am, immensely. I have found that statement to be very true and I have enjoyed this series to the hilt. The good times continue in this book as well, I laugh like crazy through these books and can't read them in bed at night as I wake up my hubby while snickering to myself.
The story line was again well written, hilarious and well-plotted. The twists in this book were aplenty and kept me guessing right up until the murderer stepped forward. The characters are well developed and while Juliet has finally become comfortable in her skin, this story threw her for a complete loop and made for some interesting internal struggles and character growth! Again the relationship between Juliet and Pete has amazing chemistry and I found myself cheering for them so many times throughout the book and let's just say, huge "awes" were being emitted from me at the end.
I can't say enough great things about this series, but I can say that you will love them as much as I do!
Mochalicious!
Amusing, entertaining, humorous, well-written, intriguing & suspenseful. The perfect cozy mystery to enjoy with a mocha!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story from NetGalley & Random House Publishing Group - Alibi in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Isn't everything better with a Mocha? Well, with or without, this was a delicious, and fun mystery. Can't wait for the next!
Solid, cute, cozy mystery with a dead guy, an amateur sleuth, an ex-fiancé, an ex-boyfriend, a potential boyfriend, and a couple of cops. Oh – and a coffee shop! I’m going to admit, I often choose books based on their covers, and I chose this one for the coffee. #yesidid
The protagonist Juliet is likable and genuine. I liked that I could envision her expressions and feel her exasperation. The police officers and a few other secondary characters were a little bit one dimensional to me, but I didn’t mind, as I was busy trying to solve the mystery before they did. I liked Juliet’s best friend Pete, also. He’s a sturdy, reliable dude – and every cozy mystery needs a Pete.
Fardig did a nice job weaving a creative, fresh mystery with just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I was onto the perp before Juliet was, but it still took me a good while to do it, and I had fun from beginning to end.
Another great Java Jive mystery. I love this series and again I just could not put this down. Great to see Juliet out their doing her PI sTuff and still getting into trouble. So glad Ryder and Pete are both still by her side as the characters really bring life to these stories. Cannot wait to read more in this series!
I absolutely loved this book! Well-written, funny, and wildly entertaining!!!
Murder Over Mochas is the fifth book in Caroline Fardig's Java Jive Mysteries. Juliet Langley, manager of the Java Jive coffeehouse, is visited by former fiancé Scott O'Malley. In the form of a greeting, she slugs him in the nose, breaking it. Just a little over a year ago Scott had run off with Mandi who worked for them in Juliet's cafe. While he was at it, he wiped out all bank accounts and their apartment. Now he has come seeking a favor, saying Juliet is the only one he can trust. Pete Bennett, Java Jive owner and Juliet's BFF, arranges for Scott to come back later so they can talk.
When Scott arrives later that evening, he is acting strangely, sick even, before he plunges face first on the table. Screaming for Pete, Juliet begins CPR as Pete calls 911. But it is too late, and now the jilted ex fiancé and her best friend are the primary persons of interest, And since the investigating detective seems to have his mind made up, it is up to Juliet and Pete to clear themselves.
With road trips back to her hometown of Liberty, Indiana, and deep diving into the inner workings of the pharmaceutical company Scott had worked for, Juliet is again plunged into peril
As she investigates, first with Pete by her side and later with former boyfriend Ryder, the trail is stunted and the clues are few. Is Mandi missing or is she not? Why exactly was Scott let go from the company? How many must perish before the killer is unmasked? All the while, the reader is guessing until the very end. Again, a great cozy with endearing character and twisting plot line. I do recommend this book!
I thought this book was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the characters. The twists and turns kept me reading. I liked the ending. I would definitely recommend this book.
I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
I have every one of the books in this series. Juliette is an aspiring singer who manages a coffeeshop in Nashville. It is owned by her best friend Pete. On the side, Juliette works as a private investigator.
The story, like all of the series revolves around a crime that Juliette has somehow gotten into the middle of. There are lots of twists and it is fun to read how she works things out.
Understand that there are some sexual and language issues, but not particularly graphic.
An enjoyable cozy mystery with a nice balance between romantic suspense and crime-solving. Maya is a likeable character. Her life is complicated, especially with regard to men. You can’t help rooting for her as she works together with her ex-boyfriend (who happens to be a police detective) to prove her innocence by figuring out who would want to kill her ex-fiancé and why. And unravelling the motives and actions that led to Scott’s death isn’t an easy task. You also can’t help rooting for Pete as he makes his interest in transitioning from best friends to something more clear. The story moved along at a lively pace with a satisfying resolution – on both the romantic and crime-solving levels. Another book that I stayed up way too late to finish.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Wonderful addition to this series especially with all the extras (most I can say without spoilers) going on. Having the investigation take place mostly in Juliet's hometown was a nice touch. This added new depths to the character while still allowing her room to grow in future books. This book is well written, whitty, and engaging with a nice surprise ending. I highly enjoyed so it gets 4/5 stars. A must read for cozy mystery fans.
Juliet Langley finally has her life all sorted out. Sort of. In addition to working at Java Jive, she’s also a private investigator, and is happy with that choice. She just needs to figure out how she feels about Ryder, her sexy ex who is now dating her friend. Her best friend Pete is acting like he wants to be more than friends…maybe. And her cheating, stealing ex-fiancé, Scott, is back and wants to talk to her. So maybe Juliet’s life isn’t quite so sorted out.
But when Scott begs for her help because he’s afraid for his life, then drops dead in front of Juliet, she’ll have to drop everything else to keep herself—and Pete—from becoming murder suspects. Again. Because Juliet’s history with Scott is anything but friendly, and it looks like she’s not the only one with hard feelings against him. She’ll need Ryder’s help to solve this case, and to keep herself and Pete out of jail.
I’ve been fortunate enough to review all the Java Jive series, and I’m sad to see it end. Juliet is a fantastic character: smart, resourceful, and with a temper and a lack of impulse control that frequently gets her in trouble (I feel her pain). Her friendship with Pete is great; they’ve been through so many ups and downs and have always been there for each other. All the characters add so many layers to this series, and if Java Jive existed, I’d be there every day to hang out. If you want a funny, light read with shades of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, definitely give these a read!

This is the fifth book in the series. It's great as a stand alone but it does make me want to read the rest. This story grabbed my attention right away and never lost it. One murder? Two murders? More? This book kept my attention which is why it is a must read. It was very entertaining. Murder, mystery, and a side of romance. Caroline Fardig can tell a story!
Murder Over Mochas is the fifth book in a five-book series called A Java Jive Mystery and its one that readers have been waiting on. For those who have read the first four books and was looking forward to another red headed she devil siting, book five, Murder Over Mochas does not disappoint! Juliet, or Jules as her bff Pete, calls her is fired up from the very first chapter in the book. The relationship between Jules and Maya and Ryder thankfully remained as strong as ever even given the way the fourth book in the series ended. The story line revolves around Jules trying to solve the murder of her ex fiance who left her for another woman and stole all of her money and caused her to have to close her cafe, which of course makes Jules the prime suspect in the murder mystery. The adventures of solving the murder takes us through trials and tribulations that only Jules can find herself in the middle of. Probably the best part of this book is the final inevitable coupling of Jules with the person we all knew she was meant to be with from the very first book in the series.
Murder over Mochas creates a happy ending to a wonderful, funny, mysterious and romantic series that keeps the reader gripped with the book in their hand from beginning to end. Overall this book was the perfect ending to a great series.
The fifth book in the Java Jive Mystery Series is full of surprises! One of the first surprise is when Juliet's former fiance (the cheating scum who took all her belongings, money, and caused her to loose her business) walks into Java Jive wanting Juliet's help! From that astounding moment to the very end, Juliet and friends are on the trail of a murderer in order to get Juliet and Pete off the hook! Before long, old friends and new friends from her home town join together to get to the bottom of some of the unusual changes in the ex's life and the eventual consequences of his lifestyle and job changes. It is an exciting book with Juliet finally figuring out what she really wants out of life, and letting go of the past.
The author has not gone in to as much detail about the coffee house in this book, but she did bring Juliet back to her first love (and college training) of music. It is exciting to know Jules has overcome problems and is finally living her dream of going on tour. The characters are well developed.
I for one would love to read more about Juliet and friends!
Murder Over Mochas by Caroline Fardig is the fifth book in the Java Jive Mystery series. Juliet is done investigating murders. She keeps that agreement until her no good ex-fiance Scott dies in front of her. She is the main suspect. I have not read any of the previous books, but I did not feel lost. The mystery was interesting, but the main focus of the book seems to be on Juliet's love life. That includes her ex-fiance, her ex-boyfriend, and her current boyfriend. If you lean toward enjoying romance with your cozy mystery, this is a wonderful book.
