Full review to be published in mud November.

THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE is everything the reader was hoping and dreading it would be. Dealing with the issues of Reyes was heart troubling, to say the least. On top of that, there are a few murders to deal with. Charley throughout the book has her hands full. Finding out the end of one of those murder investigations was mind boggling. It was fitting but still, unexpected. It's rare when I'm surprised like that, so for that alone, I was happy.

I did feel a little more disconnected from some of the actual PI work, because there was a bigger issue at hand. However, the core issue with Reyes, that I was invested in. My heart ached for Charley. There were other issues too, that I felt a little worried with, though the book didn't really emphasize how worrisome it was.

As usual, some truths were revealed. However, since this was the second to last book, the reveals were huge and important. I loved each and every one. Some were romantic, some were shocking, and one just made my jaw drop.

4.5/5 stars
First line: Few things in life were more entertaining than haunted houses.

Summary: Charley Davidson, private investigator, grim reaper, god, and wife to Reyes, is in it up to her eyeballs this time. Reyes, no, Rey’azikeen, breaks out of the god glass, along with some other not-so-savory beings. While Charley is trying to figure out of Reyes is still somewhere inside the being known as Rey’azikeen, she’s also dealing with a couple other issues, including a serial killer. Uncle Bob is on the trail of the serial killer and he needs Charley’s help.

Highlights: Charley is as good/clumsy/funny as ever. This book had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. All our favorite characters are back: Rocket, Angel, Blue and Strawberry, and Artemis. Cookie, Uncle Bob and Garrett Swope. Stories within the story are the story in this installment of Charley’s adventures in learning just how much power she really has.

Lowlights (or what could have been better): It’s just me (and I know most people probably don’t care one little iota), but I can do without the graphic sex scene.

FYI: See lowlights.

THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE is the twelfth instalment in Darynda Jones’ contemporary, adult CHARLEY DAVIDSON urban fantasy series focusing on part time private investigator, full-time grim reaper, omnipotent god Charley Davidson. THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE should be not read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book eleven -ELEVENTH GRAVE IN MOONLIGHT.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous installments there may be some spoilers in my review.

SOME BACKGROUND: This is the continuing story of Charley Davidson’s life as the Grim Reaper, the corporeal spirits who have yet to pass, and the man to whom she has pledged her undying love-the son of Satan-Reyes Alexander Farrow. Charley has recently discovered she and her hunky husband Reyes Farrow aka the Son of Satan, are gods-powerful, omnipotent beings whose futures, along with their two-month old daughter Elwyn Alexandra (aka Little Beep), are destined to either destroy the world, or bring peace to the heavens and earth.

Told from first person point of view (Charley Davidson) THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE picks up three days after the events of Eleventh Grave in Moonlight wherein Reyes Farrow’s return to this plane of existence as the god-like deity Rey’azikeen comes with the release from Hell of innocent souls, a demon assassin, a malevolent deity, and a fifteenth century priest who will continue his murderous ways by targeting the supernatural. Not only does Charley struggle to locate the man that calls to her heart but our heroine must battle the Almighty’s Michael and his army of sword-wielding angel warriors, Hellhounds, and General ‘Wong’ for control of her husband’s destiny and possible demise.

Meanwhile, Charley’s PI business and her abilities to talk with the spirits that continue to haunt the living push our heroine towards an elderly woman who believes her house is haunted by the dead; and a friend’s misfortune to become the target of a serial stalker but a stalker who will not survive his own violent tendencies. A series of unexplained brutal deaths with the lingering burn marks by an otherworldly being find our heroine facing a conundrum as the likely suspect is the man that she loves.

THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE follows Charley as she searches for the man once known as Reyes Farrow. Convinced she will be able to ‘reach’ Reyes before Rey’azikeen does any further damage, our heroine will soon learn that the god has other plans upon his return to Earth.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the return of Cookie and Ubie, Amber and Quentin, Garrett Swopes, Charley’s sister Gemma, former slave demon Osh, Rocket and his sister Blue, gang-banger Angel, Strawberry Shortcake, Mr. Wong, Officer David Taft, FBI Special Agent Kit Carson, and Artemis the dog. Garrett Swopes will make a discovery; a series of interesting reads that will be all-important to our story line heroine.

Darynda Jones’ continues to amaze and delight with our heroine’s sass and sarcasm; the one on one interplay and witty repartee between Cookie and Charley; double entendre, euphemisms, snark and Charley’s need to label and name not only the parts of her body but Cookie’s as well. The premise is revealing, startling, energetic and animated; the characters are familiar, colorful and engaging. THE TROUBLE WITH TWELFTH GRAVE and Darynda Jones’ CHARLEY DAVIDSON UF series will captivate, energize, amuse and startle. Take a chance on Charley; fall in love with Reyes; become life long friends with the story line characters.

As I Mentioned at the end of 11th book, the ending was at the most crucial moment, so this one had to start right where the last one ended … Charley helping an confused soul to cross over … to go through her, if needed or just realizing that she is the one dead not the ones that live in her apartment now …. Classic Charley. But that’s not the problem.

The problem is Reyes who came back or smashed the god class to smithereens and raised again with many souls, who were captured there, and the Reyes who emerged is not the Reyes who went in. He does not remember the present Charley, he remembers the goddess who tricked him, or so he believes. And as always when it rains in Charley’s world it pours, so besides the big angry god problem that she has with Reyes, she has many other problems at hand also. Ant to top it all off, the archangel Michael arrives to tell her, he has just 24 hours to contain the big angry god or the heavenly army will fly in.

So what to do. Start from the beginning and work its way from there – help everybody at once and hope for the best. But after she has fixed all the problems and arrives to the last fire, she is just five minutes too late and so … she is breaking the one rule she has that she should not brake …

And we the readers are left hanging on a cliff.

Once again, it could have been a standalone book, but there are plenty of reminders from previous books to fill in the blanks and to whet your appetite for more. Lots of humor and totally entertaining. Wonderful book about mysteries and relationships.

This book starts slow but gains all kinds of power.......I laughed.....I hated just about every character but I couldn't stop reading.......I just needed to know what happened next. Charlie has a fight on her hand in this one, her husband is running amok, causing all kinds of trouble....will Charlie have to eat him??? Well that's what it looks like until she finally decides she needs to trust him.

Great new book!! Absolutely loved the next chapter of Charley and Reyes!! These are my favorite couple and their stories are always epic and leave you wanting more!! I cannot say enough great things about the story, I couldn't put it down once I began, I had to know what was going to happen. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a series to read. Another hit from Darynda Jones.

As I mentioned last time, if you are new to the world of Charley, go back and start from the beginning. You won't regret it. If you're like me and have been addicted since book one don't think twice about reading book twelve, buy and devour immediately.

Once again we enter Charley's world as we have before, in a situation that makes you question if you know which direction is up and which is down. I love that I don't know right away, it's always nice that I can still be surprised after all of the previous books. Of course, she's still the same old Charley. The silliness (its a good kind of silly) of these books make them such a fun read.

It's still the same shenanigans. Charley and her ragtag band of friends, cops, and ghosts are still in the PI business. Some of them are even trying to start up their own cases. I felt that there was a lot more investigating than the Charley/Reyes time that I enjoy so much. Although, I understand why and you will too by the end of the book. However, we got a lot more of the supporting characters. Cookie, light pole, and stripper dance. Enough said.

I started the book disappointed with Reyes but I really should have known better. My adoration of him is not misplaced and I never should have doubted him.

I'm not ready to talk about the ending yet. Suffice it to say I was struck speechless. Once again Charley leaves us on a knifes edge and I feel like I've been cut. So much happens in this book, so many emotions. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride. I laughed, giggled, perhaps snorted, and most definitely cried. It was worth every moment. I highly suggest you immerse yourself in Charley's world at your earliest chance.

When NetGalley offered the first and the now-published twelfth of this series, I was curious enough to grab both. I knew the series was popular, and wanted to see why.

The pluses of the first book were Charley, the intrepid, wise-cracking PI who also sees the dead, and helps them to the light, her friends and uncle, and sometimes the prickly Garrett, handsome detective who didn't believe in her abilities.

Not as interesting to me, but obviously a big draw to the readership, the Mark I hero: mysterious, broody, angsty, dangerous, maybe a villain, and probably has one of those carefully gardened two day stubbles. (I don't remember his looks, except dark, I only remember he came to Charley in dreams and had excellent dream-sex with her, and on that basis she believed he couldn't be evil, though all the signs pointed to yes.)

Well, number twelve has and hasn't changed a lot. Charley has become a god, and Reyes, the villain-hero, (now her husband) has too. And, oh, he's still possibly a villain, and in his current incarnation maybe about to destroy the world?

The series hasn't changed a lot in that the same core characters are there, with the addition of some nifty friends both alive and dead. I enjoyed reading about them all, especially Angel (in the first book) and Osh (new).

The murders are more grisly in this book (and they fear Reyes might be the perp), and Charley is beset by the overarching paranormal mystery as well as solving these murders. The book ends on a massive cliffhanger.

I still liked Charley and her wisecracking, and I love the powers she has. I really like the secondary characters, but found Reyes as uninteresting as before--it's just not a character type I like, though readers who do like that type of hero should be pleased because the writing is as tight as ever, roller-coastering between horrific and snicker-funny.

Final opinion: I probably won't read more of this series, but I will try anything Darynda Jones does when she ventures out, in hopes the elements are more my jam.

In the Twelfth installment of the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones, Charley is in a race against the clock to reign in the evil god Rey'azikeen before his brother takes him out for good. Since Rey'azikeen happens to also be her husband, Reyes, she has a vested interest in bringing him back into the fold.

While Charley and her friends try to track down Reyes, she's knee deep in the PI business, trying to hunt down whoever is behind the strange murders happening around town, and protecting her friend from being charged with murder. As everything starts to come together, the unthinkable happens, and Charley is put in an impossible situation.

Once again, Darynda Jones absolutely blew me out of the water. I am amazed that this series just gets better with each installment. The Trouble with Twelfth Grave has mystery, drama, the humor that drew me into this series from the very start, and the hot Hot HOT chemistry between Charley and Reyes, in any of his incarnations. If you haven't yet been introduced to the series, I highly recommend you get started TODAY.

This latest Charlie Davidson book firstly is as funny as ever. The scheme she cooked up to send Reyes, her husband to hell, free some people and comeback within minutes, of course backfired. He ‘came back’ not himself. He came back as his evil alter ego. All schemes to separate him from the dark one failed, until almost the end of the book. There was a case in the midst of all these chaos for Charlie and Cookie to solve. All our favorite characters were also present, including Angel. I need for Reyes and Charlie to stay more on earth than in hell or wherever they teleport to.
Of course I adore this series. I always buy the audio as well. There is nothing that can be compared to the voice of Lorelei King reading the story.. Fabulous.

Once again Darynda Jones hits it out of the park. This series has only gotten better and better. There are not many long running series that I can truly say that about. I love everything about this series, the snark, the secondary characters, Reyes, but most importantly the badass queen herself, Charley Davidson! Can't wait for book thirteen, but I'm also sad to see it ending!

I absolutely LOVED book 12 of 13 of the Charley Davidson series!!! Okay so to break it down we get more of Reyes Farrow from before when he was a god out for vengeance. Oh my goodness the HOTNESS!!! The ending threw me and I most certainly won’t reveal what the ending was the had my jaw dropping but holy moly that was UNREAL!!! After reading I had to just sit there for a few minutes contemplating whether or not a Darynda Jones had just done that! Darynda Jones has once again stolen my heart only this time with book 12. Now I just need book 13 to satisfy my hunger for more Reyes!

The Trouble With Twelfth Grave pick up right where we left off, well three days later to be exact.
As always, Darynda Jones brings us joy, tears, laughters and more intrigue. Though I found this book slower paced than previous ones, there is some twists that I really didn't see coming.
I can't wait for the next and last installment of the Charley Davidson series ! But I'm not sure I'm prepared to say goodbye to Charley, Reyes, Beep and the rest of the gang yet... What a bitter sweet dilemna to have ;)

Charley may have finally bitten off more than she can chew. The drama with Reyes kept me on the edge of my seat. There is an interesting mystery to solve, some steamy romance, with plenty of twists and surprises. Fan favorite characters abound to help Charley keep the world from going to hell, literally. I cannot wait to see how this series wraps up, especially after that breath gasping ending!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I got this book thanks to Netgalley. While this book doesn't have Reyes in it, we do get to see the team of loved ones Charley is surrounded by in order to get him back. Worlds collide, God is challenged, and drama In The Charley way.

The Trouble With Twelfth Grave starts out a couple of days after Charley releases everyone BUT the true Reyes from the God Glass. One of the beings that has been released possibly has Reyes trapped inside him. He looks like him, talks like him, but is not the true Reyes. Once again we see this dynamic pair separated. There are scenes where it seems like it is Reyes showing through, but is really Reyazekene. (I probably spelled that wrong, I listened) Throughout the book, Charley is trying to nail down just how to get rid of Reyazekene and get Reyes out of him safely before Michael descends with a heavenly army to take him out.

Along the way, Charley does her best to stop one of the malevolent beings released from the God Glass from killing anymore humans. She’s truly hoping it is not Reyazekene that is doing the killings, but she has to find out which one it is so she can summon and destroy it. There is also a murder that needs to be solved to keep her friend Peri from being a prime suspect. It was fun seeing everyone join together to help Peri cover up any evidence found in her tattoo shop!

As usual with the books in this series, we are raced from problem to problem. Charley does her best with snap decisions with little sleep. There were some sad moments, and I have to say my biggest heavy heart was the lack of Charley/Reyes together time. However, this wouldn’t be a Charley Davidson novel without crazy shenanigans mixed in. Just wait until you read the part when Cookie comes to Charley’s aid to distract some staked out agents. I thought I was going to die laughing.

The Trouble With Twelfth Grave had me on an emotional roller coaster. So much happens and one minute you’re freaking out and the next your laughing your ass off. Plus, it all goes so fast. My head was spinning. It is definitely a book you want to block out some time and just sink in.

Once again, Darynda Jones left me screaming in rage at her ending. I don’t know how she can keep doing this to me. You would think I would learn that she’s going to kill me with a cliff hanger type of ending. It is maddening! She’s made these books like crack and I just can’t get enough. I’ve grown to love all of the characters in this series and every time something happens I freak out. Maybe I’m way too invested in these books.

Loved this book so much!! But hate that I have to wait another year!! I cant wait!

I have loved this series from the very first book and this new one just adds to that feeling. With Reyes acting strange Charlie, along with her friends must figure out what is going on with him. What is making him act differently, and is it something serious? Meanwhile Charlie is working on a case and it's not something that she can just let fall through the cracks. With everything that is going on will she be able to help those who need her and those she cares about? Charlie is such a well developed character, who I've enjoyed seeing grow with each new book. I'll be sad when the last book is published but know in the end she'll come full circle and be that much stronger a character for it.
