As a busy mom I'm always on the lookout for ways to create food that my kids will love and I can feel good cooking for them. This book is a wonderful tool to do exactly that
Jam packed with delicious, healthy, easy enough to make recipes. I’m suddenly very hungry after looking at it!
Delicious and fresh looking recipes with amazing fresh ingredients. The pictures were a great supplement to the recipes and the author did a great job of curating all different types of recipes.
A good vegan cook book with lots of picture of the food. The recipes don't call for any strange or hard-to-find ingredients, which for me makes it much more likely that I'll actually make something from the book.
However there are far too many salads in this book with little aeration between them. As many none view plant based diets to be limited to boring salads I don't think this would persuade them otherwise.
I highly recommend this book! We can all benefit from more vegan meals in our diet, even those who choose to be omnivores. This book includes great recipes and I appreciate that the meals are one dish.
As someone who owns many vegan cookbooks, my biggest critique is that they often do not have enough full and balanced meals. This book is very different. Gena ensures that every recipe is a filling, complete meal, with a healthy balance of nutrients. I think this book is essential for any vegan, or anyone trying to eat healthier. I have been following Gena's blog for years, and her honest and inviting voice really shines through in this book.
From Breakfast to Salad to Soup to Main Dishes it’s all there in 100 recipes in this one. This is the type of cookbook that puts ideas into motion. Even if you are not a full Vegan like me you’ll enjoy this one full of whole food and plant-based recipes. It gave me such great ideas to get the staying power in my food and enjoy the flavors all at once.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
As someone who strongly believes that meal prep is an important part of being prepared for the week ahead, I will definitely be incorporating some of the power plates, dips, sauces and dressings highlighted in this cookbook into my weekly meal prep.
Wonderful and easy to make one dish vegan meals.........
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the ARC which does not influence my review.
I am a vegan of many decades and I can attest this is a excellent cookbook with sensible meals that will suit any cook that is vegan or interested in healthy plant based eating. The 100 recipes are easy to make and ingredients easy to find. What I love most is that the presentation is beautiful so you can see what your meals will look like. As a blood sugar patient I found much in vegan protein here that is helpful to my daily eating needs.
I would like to thank the publisher, Ten Speed Press and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this marvelous cookbook.
I have been thinking about eating less meat and add vegetarian meal days into our diet. This book is marvelous, the dishes are colorful and look so wholesome. I also like that Gina that these are one dish meal recipes that cover breakfast, soups, salads, skillets and bakes and bowls, while borrowing from the Mediterranean, Italian, Spanish and Mexican and Indian kitchens among others. At the end she provides sample mean plans for all the 4 season, spring , summer, fall and winter.
Great Cookbook!!!
Love love love! I'm not vegan but there are many wonderful sounding recipes here that I'm inspired to try. Plenty of lunchbox and quick, healthy dinner ideas too.

This cookbook contains mouth-watering beautiful pictures. Food porn at the best. I like that the author added a sample meal plan for each season at the end, but there was too much variety for the average working person that probably won't have time to cook all three meals daily.
I have been following a plant-based lifestyle for two years now so I am always eager to get my hands on the newest plant-based cookbooks.
Pros: The recipes don't call for any strange or hard-to-find ingredients and almost every one has a color photo so you know what your meal should look like. I'm looking forward to trying the Apple Ginger Muesli, French Toast, Mushroom Miso Barley Soup, Golden Rice Bowls, Golden Beet Risotto and Stuffed Collard Leaves.
Cons: I think the Salad chapter of this book was way too long, and most of them were similar, just with different dressings. Almost everyone who doesn't eat plant-based assumes all we eat is salad and grass so I would have loved to see more creative salads or exclude that chapter all together. Also, some of the recipes are very complex and have multiple pages of instructions which is a drawback.
*Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. However, all opinions are my own.*
Though I'm not a full time vegan, I try to eat vegan meals as much as possible and am always on the lookout for great new vegan recipe books. My requirements are that there aren't too many ridiculous ingredients, not too lengthy to cook, and - of course - delicious! This book ticks those boxes.
The recipes themselves vary in difficulty - some are a little too simple for my liking. A lot of the salads fall into this category, unfortunately, as they felt a little too 'basic', and these ones felt like a bit of a waste of space. However there's still a lot of interesting, varied meals which are a little different and look very tasty. These also seem pretty easy to follow. This is definitely more of an entry level book, as there aren't any hugely elaborate recipes, but that probably suits most people because, apart from sometimes at the weekend perhaps, who wants to spend hours in the kitchen using every utensil imaginable?
Categories include breakfast, soups, salads, bowls, stovetop, skillets and bakes, and feature a wide range of recipes. I've tried a few - the West African Peanut Stew, Thai Peanut Noodle Bowls, and Yellow Split Pea Chowder - and really liked them. There's plenty more recipes which look amazing, and which I've got lined up to cook, including the Curried Jamaican Stew, Chickpea Deli Bowls with smashed chickpea salad, and Lentil Marinara. Lots of sweet treats to try too!
This is a really nicely designed, aesthetically pleasing book so would be great for a gift for someone else (or for yourself). There are lovely photos which are really inspiring, and there's a handy introduction section with really useful nutritional information.
I'd recommend this for anyone looking to start eating vegan, or who fancies some inspiration for vegan dishes.
An unbelievably stylish cookbook, it's beautiful. But there is no style over substance here. 100 practical, flavour packed, balanced vegan meals is the promise and so far so good. Fresh interesting ideas, that could be lent to other recipes. The salad section in particular is a winner for me, mine are often to safe, this will liven them up!
My favourite bit of the book is the intro section including the noteworthy ingredients and the nutritional info. Very helpful and informative.
Nice vegan recipes whose ingredients are not too difficult to find and the photo of the plates are really well done!
Ricette vegani interessanti perché gli ingradienti usati non sono di difficile reperimento e le foto che le accompagnano sono veramente belle.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
Power Plants is a new cookbook from The Full Helping’s Gena Hamshaw featuring 100 recipes that are nutritionally balanced and completely plant-based. Building upon the ideas the author has shared on her blog the book is also packed full with useful information on everything from macronutrients to advance prepping, batch cooking, freezing and even seasonal meal plan ideas.
The overall design of the book is beautiful with soft colours and photos that showcase the delicious nutritionally balanced dishes. I was a little disappointed by the lack of allergen key alongside the recipes, something which I’m used to seeing in the cookbooks I review. Although these can help to identify allergens at a glance, the layout of this book makes it easy to quickly scan the ingredients lists if necessary.
Instead of just sharing my top picks from the book for this review I thought I would try out one of the recipes and share the results with you. I chose the Curried Tomato Stew with Chickpea Dumplings (pictured above) as I’d never cooked anything like this before and loved the idea of making gluten free, vegan dumplings.
The instructions were really easy to follow and unlike with some ‘free from’ cookbooks none of the ingredients were difficult to track down, in fact I already had most of them in my kitchen. The finished stew tasted great and I’ll definitely be making it again in future, as well as attempting to cook more recipes from this book - I’m looking at you Golden Rice Bowls!
Overall I'm really impressed with the design, selection of recipes and amount of information packed into Power Plates. With little added extras such as the meal plans this book is a great introduction to plant-based eating.
I have some health issues and was curious to see if I was able to find some new recipes. Even if I am not vegan this book met my requirement. Full of interesting recipes that are clearly explain, it also has very good pics.
Many thanks to Netgalley and TenSpeed Press
