I mean...it was okay? Plot wise at least. But absolutely predictable, and the characters were pretty flat. Also that scene at the beginning with the blackmail was twenty shades of Not Okay. I'm sure people who like fast-paced gamer books will enjoy this one. But it was not my cup of tea.

This was an ok read. I felt that the MC Simon was not a character that I feel engaged in anymore. I felt like the story has an interesting premise but felt like it has been done before with AI and immersive online gaming with dire consequences

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. One that quickly sucked me in with great plot and world building. Definitely for fans of Ready Player One.

Read this for Indigo Teen SPOTM decision group. This was so bad. The protagonist is TOXIC and I just cannot in good conscience hand sell this to any teenaged humans.

Looking for a mix of sci fi and comedy? This is it. It feels very much like a YA book but definitely held captive in its story. The ending left me wondering if there will be more to this story and turns out there is!!

I loved his voice. It leaped off the page from the first word. I really liked that he wasn't exactly likable, but he was definitely memorable. Easy comparison to Warcross, which I enjoyed a little better, but overall a great read.

This is a great book for geeks and players of MMORPGs, who will immediately understand and relate to the characters and the situations they find themselves in. It's very reminiscent of “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline, but manages to be at the same time a darker, more teen version with less of the video game history.

It was a little slow at first and, being a complete non-gamer, there were times it was a little hard to follow. I did like the main character and the whole concept was cool, if a little terrifying.

This is what happens when you mix Ready Player One, Warcross and The Hunger Games. Otherworld will appeal to male readers which doesn’t mean female readers won’t also enjoy I just find that the YA genre is heavily female based and that girls will also find it refreshing. This will also appeal to the millennial generation as they are very tech savvy and who wouldn’t love to be in a virtual reality game. This was intense and you will feel a lot of emotions and definitely know who the villains are and hope they suffer a terrible fate. I would recommend this to anybody who loves gaming and would love to read a book with a male lead.

Honestly - this was not very enjoyable. The main character was unlikeable - but it didn't feel intentional - it felt accidental - I think he was supposed to be quirky and fun. This book was hard to like - and I just did not get into it. I wanted to, I just couldn't. I don't do this often - but I just could not finish this book. However - I can see the appeal, especially with younger male readers. (I felt like it was very much a book for dudes).

A riveting story that unfolds in both the real world and the virtual world of Otherworld. Simon and Kat have been inseparable friends since they were eight years old. They even team up for their first foray into Otherworld.

Soon afterwards, Kat is injured in a horrific accident and is diagnosed with locked-in syndrome. She can't move, but her brain is fully functioning. When the people at The Company, designers of Otherworld, offer to include her in a a test of some virtual reality gear that will allow her to continue living her life online, her family readily agrees.

Unfortunately, all is not as it seems. There appears to be some other hidden agenda, not just good will at play. It is left up to Simon to figure out what is happening before something even worse happens to Kat.

This is a fast pace story that kept me turning pages late into the night. I couldn't wait to see what surprises would be ready to spring on Simon at each of his moves. It was hard to tell which of the characters to love or hate and who to trust. I never doubted Simon nor Kat for a moment. Not every one was who they seemed to be or who I wanted them to be.

While I feel that this book will have a large appeal to gamers, it certainly is not limited to that audience. Along with the action, there is also the story of Simon and Kat, and their dedication to each other. Otherworld is set up as the start to a new and addictive series.

If you enjoyed Ready Player One and Armada by Ernest Cline, you'll love Otherworld.
