So Over You is a beast. It continues the legacy of epic love and hard hitting characters that Kate Meader is known for. Isobel is a woman a chip on her shoulder, a lot to prove and the spirit to back it up. A fighter of the highest order, I love that she continues to be the fighter she was meant to be despite, life's hard knocks. The girl with a dream is intent on making the goal in a male dominated sport. Nothing can stop this champion from striking gold. Not even an egotistical, tempting and frustrating blast from her past. When the chips are down, this is a fight to the finish that could result in the ultimate score for both teams. It's characters like Isobel that gives women the strength to follow their heart and that is a legacy to be proud of.

This book wasn't just hot, it was also filled with great moments, funny banter, and solid character development.

Vadim Petrov and Isobel Chase had a thing between them during their teenage years. Their passion for hockey was as encompassing as their passion for each other. But things didn't really work out. They lost touch over the years until now. Vadim is playing for the Rebels and that means being in close contact with Isobel.

So Over You has top-notch romance and the sizzling chemistry between Vadim and Isobel can't be beat. It just leaps off the page. There's a depth of emotion to this book that took me by surprise. Isobel was as much a victim of her father's control as Harper was but in different way. While older sister Harper was dismissed and ignored, Isobel had her father's approval, that is as long as she continues to follow the path he's laid out for her. He totally made use of her love for hockey to extend his legacy. He was an unconscionable ass, and my heart felt so much for Isobel. The pressure she went through especially after her injury knowing that she's lost not just her dreams of playing hockey but her father as well.

And Vadim!! Gah! He was exactly what Isobel needed then and now. He suffered too. And some of my favorite parts of the book involved Vadim and his family. Yes, he's romance-hero perfect but there's so much more depth to him. His earnestness and the way he loves Isobel is what made this book for me. And I loved that he wasn't perfect. He made some boneheaded decisions but as a reader, his motivations are clear that you understand.

These two together lit up the pages for sure. Everything, from the banter to their teasing and their sexy times, was perfect and came alive in the page. Kate Meader certainly know and love these characters. It's the only explanation I have for how these characters were intricately written, their actions and motivations so in sync that once I started reading, I just couldn't stop. The story, the romance was just well done.

This series is definitely shaping up to be one of my favorites this year. I'm so looking forward to Violet's story now. And Dante's! Oh my gosh, he was a standout in this book. He was introduced in the first book but it was in this book where he really stood out. And I'm so happy that Kate is giving him a book of his own because gah! I want his story so much.

Review of “So Over You” by Kate Meader

ARC kindly provided by publisher through NetGalley for a fair review. Thank you!

Four Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

No denying that Kate Meader writes awesome romances centred around the world of hockey and this book, the second in her Chicago Rebels series, was no exception of course.

This one stars a sexy, brooding Russian hero and Isobel - the sister who was meant to fulfil the “hockey-stardom” aspirations of her father - but, she was a) born the wrong gender (in the eyes of her douchebag dad) and b) suffered a life-threatening injury that put her out of the game for good.

Although the romance here has got the sweet essence of young love, Remy and Harper somehow has remained my favourite couple (so far). I think it’s because Remy somehow appealed to me more. That tidbit when he espouses his knowledge of “Pride and Prejudice” felled me! Not to mention his cooking skills (yes, I love my food)...

In the case of Vadim, despite how he fell for Isobel as a teen, and how that love ran deep, I just couldn’t take some of his ...as Katy Perry puts it so well..
... “hot then cold, yes then no, in then out, up then down, wrong when it's right, black and white” attitude..

Isobel was a feisty heroine (I loved her passion and dedication!) but oh so darn stubborn sometimes. I kept rolling my eyes at times, going “No, Isobel.. don’t!”

The story, besides having familiar faces from the past, also has some family dynamics happening in Vadim’s life, all of which I loved...

All in all an awesome read, which I would of course, recommend to others without hesitation .. ☺️

Kate Meader’s books are so addictive. I thought Remy from Irresistible You was my love, but now it’s Vadim Petrov. I'm almost one-hundred percent sure I'll be falling for Dante next, then Bren after him. That's because Kate has a very strong male "voice". Her men are lovable because they're not altogether flawless. She lets us get to know her characters so well that we understand where they're coming from when they act in a certain way. So, yeah, Vadim started out super arrogant and cold and Russian, but by the end, he became this sympathetic, vulnerable guy. When he made a unilateral decision to "protect" Isobel, I got mad along with her, but I forgave him even before she did. That's talent. Kate Meader has loads of it.

Not to say that her heroines are weak or secondary to the heroes. They're fabulous! Isobel, like Harper before her, is awesome. She knows her own mind but has doubts, too. She's confident, yet has fears. All very normal and relatable.

Isobel and Vadim are great together. They're sexy, funny, and they're just meant to be with each other. I enjoyed their interactions and their journey to love.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters. The team, the sisters, Vadim's small family, especially his relationship with his little sister Mia. The sisters. I love them. I love that they're working together to create a uniquely functional family.

There's so much love and laughter in So Over You. Shed a few tears, too. Yep, this is a worthy read.

Isobel Chase knows all the ends and outs of hockey, she's played it, excelled at it, and now she is going to try her hand at coaching it. It was always her dream to play professionally and she had her shot, but it ended quickly when she suffered an injury that there was no returning from, so now she is reuniting with her sisters and helping them keep their fathers legacy alive by running his team. She is starting to feel like things in her life might finally be looking up.... but then she meets her first "student" and she begins to wonder if she just got herself in over her head!

Vadim Petrov has never really had to want for the attention of a woman, normally all he has to do is look in their direction and they are falling all over themselves to maintain his attention... but when he meets his gorgeous new coach, his charm seems to be defective! They have history, and he thought it was a good history, one that they could rekindle, but Isobel doesn't seem to agree, she wants nothing to do with him... other than whipping his butt into shape!!

Within the pages of this steamy little tale you will meet two headstrong lovebirds who have a history that is filled with some really good memories and some that are anything but...so when they are forced to work together things getting a little heated in more ways than one! Isobel still carries the hurt caused by Vadim's abrupt departure and isn't so willing to tangle with the "ruler" of the ice again, while he sees this opportunity as a way to reunite with the one girl who managed to penetrate his heart. So, as you can imagine there is a lot of tug o' war going on, and a whole lot of angst filled battles that have the temperatures rising, and fireworks swirling... and naughty encounters that will leave you blushing!! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two, they had me smiling, swooning, laughing, and blushing throughout... hands down my favorite novel from Ms. Meader to date!! Highly recommend you check out this series, each installment is heavy on the steam and overflowing with heart!!

Who knew Russian talk could be so sexy? There was a lot to this couple that I really enjoyed. Vadim's accent was a big draw, but seeing him with his sister that he just found out about and his mom that had left him when he was 10 really gave this story heart. I was worried Vadim might be too much of a womanizer in the beginning but it did not lead to that. I was very thankful to see the author wasn't going to be throwing a bunch of other women drama in this story. Isobel's character was interesting. Her drive and ambition in a male dominated sport made her stand out in this series. I loved how she handled a few things with Vadim that could have become unnecessary drama but didn't due to her reactions. Add in more Harper and Remy from book 1, more teasers of Violet and Bren and this has been a fun series so far.

Kate Meader is one of my favorite authors, so I am always thrilled to receive an advanced reader copy for an upcoming release. I’m hesitant to say much here, folks, because I don’t want to give very much away. Just know that I so never want to see this series over. This author has scored with each book of The Chicago Rebels so far with me.

As an avid mafia romance reader, I am very partial to Russian leading men. In this one, Vadim at first came across egotistical and a manho, but you soon saw another whole side to him. I loved how strong, determined, but still sensitive Isobel was in her career and personal life. You could feel their chemistry and knowing their past history made their final HEA so much sweeter and rewarding.

There were lots of great cameo time for the characters in previous books, as well. I love the sisterhood these formerly estranged siblings have going on, while shaking things up in a male dominated hockey world.

I simply cannot wait to see wild child Violet brought to her senses by the brooding Scottish team captain in book 4, Hooked on You. He’s obviously older, got baggage, but I am so verra excited to know Vi will be melting the ice around his heart, as she also learns what true love is all about herself.

Though each book is technically a stand-alone, you’ll, of course, enjoy the character development more if you read the books in order. Whether in the kitchen, firefighting, or playing hockey, Ms. Meader uses these backdrops to give us romantic storylines and couples you will be happy to see win at the game of love.

Title: So Over You, Series: Chicago Rebels (Book 2), Author: Kate Meader, Pages: 400, stand-alone but part of a series more enjoyable if read in order, former female hockey player; now a trainer/part owner, second chance romance, some very graphic, steamy, lusty scenes.

Book .5 - In Skates Trouble (Addison & Ford)
Book 1 - Irresistible You (Harper & Remy)
Book 2 - So Over You (Isobel & Vadim)
Book 3 - Undone by You (Cade & Dante)
Book 4 - Hooked on You (Violet and Bren)

So Over You by Kate Meader is the second novel in the Chicago Rebels series and my favorite to date. Vadim and Isobel have a history, one that was underwhelming for her and angering for him. Both would like to forget it but now not only is Isobel the co-owner of the hockey team he has been traded to but she is his skating coach in charge of getting him ice ready after an injury.

The complicated and painful history between these two made for some tense moments that only drove the desire they had for each other deeper. Their chemistry was off the charts and I fell hard for this rough on the outside Russian. His story had my heart melting and his love for his Bella was insurmountable. I loved it and in turn, came to love this career-driven woman who sometimes made choices I didn’t love but did them for reasons I completely understand.

This was a relatively easy read but the story was fun, sexy, and an overall joy to read. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Hockey, family matters, and a complicated relationship are all explored in the second book of the Chicago Rebels series, and I was captivated by each situation that developed. Details about playing a professional sport are delved into, where the importance of physically preparing for a game along with being mentally ready is shown. Also outside influences can certainly cause havoc on game day. Isobel Chase and Vadim Petrov must adjust to learning about recently discovered family members, and I thought any discussions were genuine because old hurts often resurfaced. As for whether the couple will ever be more than owner and player this time around, they will first have to face some very tough and often poignant challenges. Kate Meader has created a believable romance with a compelling sports theme and a very engaging couple. SO OVER YOU is humorous, sensuous, and repeatedly emotional.

When Isobel Chase had the opportunity to play in the National Women’s Hockey League, almost all her objectives connected to this particular sport were now met, and hopefully her few remaining ambitions would soon be achieved. But an injury right after her first game started meant her professional career was already over. While Isobel can no longer participate on a team she still has much knowledge to share. So when she and her two sisters become co-owners of the Chicago Rebels, she becomes a consultant for the men’s hockey team.

After a repeated knee problem kept Vadim Petrov from performing his best, the player who grew up in Russia is traded to the Chicago Rebels. Upon learning Isobel will be helping him get back in shape, he is not at all happy. The two knew each other when teenagers, and a fling between them had bad results. But Vadim and Isobel are now adults, and it appears there are several things they could teach each other even when they are not practicing on the ice.

While I do not know a lot about hockey, it was easy to become enthralled in the story because of its delightful characters and fascinating premise. Vadim is Russian, and some of his comments when confused caused huge grins. There were also moments where he knew exactly what he was saying and his sly wit was evident. Since Isobel says what she thinks, their conversations were very lively if she did not filter her words. When the hockey players were together, their talks could be serious or comical, just like most of the family chats. I especially enjoyed the times when remarks were about an adorable dog.

SO OVER YOU is about a second opportunity to find lasting happiness in all aspects of life. Though Vadim and Isobel have known each other for eight years, neither thought they could actually be together because of too many differences plus obstacles. Yet when they are once again in contact with one another, they realize the passion they felt as teenagers was nothing compared to what they now feel. I thought the way in which their relationship progressed was convincing, as they experienced numerous ups and downs. The one area where Isobel and Vadim are always fun to observe was their sexual encounters because of all the banter and enthusiasm. Kate Meader makes SO OVER YOU enjoyably entertaining.

After a minor book hangover from another hockey story I was looking forward to reading "So Over You." I knew Kate Meader would deliver and boy, did she.

In a world dominated by alpha males like ice hockey it's hard for a woman to be heard. When you make your three daughters co-owners of the team with the least prospects of winning a game and least of all making the play-offs AND making this a condition of the inheritance you deserve a special place in hell. Make those three sisters estranged and you have a recipe for disaster. Right? Wrong.

Ice Hockey is in Isobel's blood. It's the one thing that she always wanted to do and the career-ending injury she had still hurts on a soul-deep level. Then there is the issue of having to prove her position as a coach on the team and having to deal with the man who popped her cherry when she was a teenager and forgot to rock her world.

“The Russian was a . . . cock-a-doodle-dud?” “Right. Bad in bed. Terrible, actually.”

Isobel loves hockey so much, having her dream ripped away from her leaves her a bit like a fish out of water. The next best thing is coaching but it's always been hockey for her. While I loved Isobel's drive, her ambition, I was on the fence about her true feelings and wondering if Vadim really meant more to her than hockey or if he really was only the next best thing, too. However, she did convince me in the end. But: Isobel comes with a load of daddy issues. Her womanizing father did a number on her but her issues were quickly forgotten in the end, so that was an inconsistency that I couldn't look past.

Vadim, the big, grumpy Russian, was simply adorable and personally my highlight. He is this seemingly entitled, arrogant man so when he learns that he left young Isobel wanting all those years ago he is indignant...and then a little insecure. He is melodramatic, often unintentionally funny, and high-handed and has a serious alpha-vibe about him. All this together though is a weirdly endearing package. His speech without contractions becomes more pronounced the more time you spend with him.

The sisters relationship is so obviously improving and I was happy to see that the youngest of them didn't let Isobel get away with her issues. All the sisters interactions show me that there is real bonding happening.

***Harper’s head was cocked as she blatantly ogled their GM. Stop it, Isobel frowned. You stop it, Harper frowned right back. That made them both giggle, which drew Dante’s querying look.***

Of course Kate lets us spend time with Remy (yay!), Cade (who I'm tickled silly about), Dante (OMG!) and Bren (Scottish brooding deliciousness!). I love their dynamics. I adored Vadim's relationship with his sister.

***A moment of silence was offered for the female tragedy that was Dante Moretti's homosexuality.***

Kate Meader's writing is like water. It flows effortlessly, pleasantly and is full with her own personal wit and humor. She really has that down pat. I have come to appreciate her books so much. So Over You was a wonderful addition to this series and I'm really sad that there are only two more installments. Even with the minor issues I was supremely entertained. I can't wait to get Dante and Cade, and Violet and Bren in my hands!

***"My woman is the North Star in my night sky, but also in her own. If she is not there to guide me, there is only darkness. For us both.”***

So Over You is a second chance story starring the second Chase sister, Isobel, and the Rebels’ moody left-winger Russian, Vadim. I wasn’t too keen on Isobel when I first glimpsed of her on Irresistible You, most likely out of sympathy to what Harper had gone through (as in poor treatment from their father, Isobel being the favorite and all). But this second installment to the “Chicago Rebels” series warm me up to her, as we witness the rousing relationships between the three sisters. That’s more than boosting up the overall impact of the story for me.

The familial issue is not solely on Isobel’s side; Vadim has his own to deal with. Without giving out any spoiler - though I’m sure readers would guess the truth of it soon enough - the thought that haunting him is heartbreaking. That saying, I do feel the Russia part of his life isn’t dug in enough other than mentioning the wealth en passant.

On the romance front - considering the MCs are a pair of headstrong characters - this fast-paced book delivers a stimulating story on and off the ice. I find it quite amusing how their short scorching history left such opposite impact on both side. It’s very entertaining the way the story and conversation flow as Isobel and Vadim weave their way through; making tough choices and facing off consequences.

Although read independently as a standalone, I recommend to read this series consecutively for a more well-rounded sense of the story. I for one eagerly look forward to - at least - stories of two couples that have been left unsolved here (you’ll get my drift from the blurb of next installments of the series. *wink*).

Another enjoyable hockey story in Kate Meader's Chicago Rebels series!

Lots of emotional ups and downs for both Isobel and Vadim, both personally in their relationship with one another and professionally as they both struggle to find their respective spots within the hockey league. Unfortunately, both of their pasts continue to influence their present views which leads to more conflict. Without giving anything away, there's a lot of additional drama on different levels going which adds depth to the story.

I ended up skimming a bunch. I found both Isobel and Vad to be so closed, off emotionally that it was painful to watch them interact. I enjoyed the first book in this series much more, although I don't really like any of the sisters I think maybe it was just kinda depressing, and I prefer my romances to be more of a beach vacation, less Siberian gulag.

I loved this story!! These characters just made my heart swell. Great writing and a story that will make you laugh and swoon made this a very enjoyable read.

Isobel Chase is strong, confident, and talented on the ice maybe not quite so much in life but she's determined not to let anyone see that vulnerable side. She's working hard to earn respect in the hockey coaching world and she can't let her newest assignment, Vadim Petrov damage what she's worked so hard for. Vadim is Russian born, dominating, and pure sex. He and Isobel have a history. As teens they shared one night of passion before being caught by her father. When Vadim finds out that night may not have been as memorable for Isobel as it was for him he makes it his mission to show her just how much his uDon't skills have improved!

Don't miss this one. I highly recommend it.

Okay, so I’m struggling a bit trying to form the words to express just how much I loved So Over You. Seriously struggling.

On the one hand, we have Vadim Petrov, aka The Czar of Pleasure, who’s over six feet of hot AF, studly, sexy, Russian hockey god goodness. He’s gruff, growly and ready to make right his wrongs from his teenaged years. Especially when it comes to righting the wrong he committed with Isobel Chase, even if it takes all night and produces limitless orgasms. Um, I would be all right with someone making up to me in this fashion, just sayin’.

And on the other hand, we have Isobel. Middle sister of the three Chase girls struggling to keep ownership of their hockey team. Struggling to find a way to be sisters. Struggling to find their roles in the family unit and the hockey franchise. For Isobel, on paper this should be easy—she’s a former hockey player and has coached in the minors, but in reality, female coaches are seen as an oddity, and are extremely rare in major league hockey.

But together, Vadim and Isobel are freakin’ magic. I loved their snarky, sexy banter. And holy hell, their sexy times are ridiculously hot AF. I loved how they were a perfect balance for each other—that they were extremely protective of each other, well, sometimes over protective. I’m looking at you, Vad.

But also magical is the developing relationship between Isobel and her sisters, Harper and Violet. They’re still trying to figure each other out, figure out how to be a “family” when they barely know each other . . . but they’re growing on each other a lot!

And I can’t leave out Vadim and his sister, Mia. Talk about a scene stealer! I loved how fiercely protective Vad was with Mia—and that she didn’t take his shit. At such a young age, she a pistol who gives it right back to Vad—even as she wraps him tighter around her finger.

I cannot get enough of this amazing Chicago Rebels series and I am dying to get my hands on Alamo and Dante’s book. Sigh. Is it March yet?

Y’all, Kate Meader has me completely wrapped around her little finger with this smart and sizzling hockey series. And, incidentally, so does Vadim Petrov. Holy buckets, you guys. I’ll take a heaping helping of the surly Russian "czar of pleasure" any day, alllll day. I couldn’t get enough of him. He was just the perfect prickly gruffness to irresistible soft underbelly ratio, and I am smitten. Completely smitten.

I loved that this story didn’t play out exactly the way you might expect it to. The twists aren’t mind blowing, but they’re enough to make this a little bit different than your typical romance fare. Neither of these characters were exactly what I was expecting and I loved them all the more for it. I felt like the overall tone of So Over You was heavier than Irresistible You was, but it was still balanced by these light, unexpectedly sweet, and laugh out loud moments that basically made it a nearly perfect reader experience. I laughed, I swooned, I smiled so big. This second-chance romance was just a complete delight!

While I adored the way the relationship between Vadim and Isobel unfolded, I enjoyed the way the relationship between the Chase sisters has been unfolding just as much. The secondary story going on between them warms my heart – I love the way they are learning to be sisters, the way they fight with each other and the way they fight for each other. It added a richness to the layers of this story and I enjoyed it so much.

Vadim's story with his family was equally as rewarding as I felt like it showed tremendous character growth. I loved how he interacted with Mia. I loved who she was to him and the way she gave him depth of character and drew out that ooey gooey underbelly I can never get enough of. These layers just make this already completely addictive story, that much more compelling.

I’m completely hooked on these Chicago Rebels. I’ll be back for as much as Ms. Meader cares to dish out to us. The writing is completely engaging, the storytelling is 100% on point, and my heart absolutely cannot get enough! ~ 4.5 Stars

I'm hoping that some of the issues I had with this book are resolved in the final edition so I guess I'll need to read a final copy to find out. While I really liked Vadim and Isobel's relationship and it's progression, I noticed two plot holes and while one was hastily tied up (not particularly well), the other was not. I also felt like in the 21st century, we really ought to have stopped with the girl hate. Is it realistic for women to resent other women for being beautiful? Sure. But that's internalized misogyny and I would like for my romance novels to go ahead and dismantle that so we can stop seeing girl hate reflected back at us every time we turn around. Anyway, I enjoy Kate Meader's writing and find the sister relationship between the women compelling so I will likely pick up the next book in the series. Fingers crossed there will be less girl hate in that one!

"Oh for Gretzky's sake", this book delighted me! There was this one quote, that pretty much summed it up for me: "This family is a soap opera looking for a daytime network slot."

•Pro: So much delicious drama. I am NOT a fan of too much drama between the hero and the heroine, but I tend to enjoy it, when it is largely outside of the relationship, as it was with this book. Mommy issues, daddy issues, identity issues -- there were a lot of issues, but Meader did a great job weaving all these things together.

•Pro: Isobel was a woman to be reckoned with. With her impressive hockey pedigree and sassy wit, I couldn't resist her, but what really made me love her, was her vulnerability. Isobel was sort of adrift following a career ending injury, and I was really rooting for her to find her way.

•Pro: Vadim was broody perfection. He was so complicated and I loved each and every new nook and cranny I learned about him. His adoration for Isobel totally endeared him to me, and even when he was a total grump, he made me smile.

•Pro: This is a second chance romance, and you know who loves second chance romances? This girl! These two had a short lived relationship back when they were teens, and Vadim always held a small flame in his heart for his Bella. It was great to see them back together fanning the flames, and I loved the way Meader slowly kindled the fire.

•Pro: I enjoyed all the relationships that were explored. There was the relationship between the "Chase" sisters, Vadim and his sister, Vad and his mother, Isobel and her father, but of course, my favorite was the relationship between Vadim and Isobel.

•Pro: The Chase sisters are an interesting bunch. I liked learning their history and seeing them their affection for each other grow as they supported each other through the good and the bad times.

•Pro: Meader knows how to write great banter and how to judiciously use pop culture references to spice it up. From Friends and Dirty Dancing to soup in bread bowls, there were all these little additions that made me smile.

•Pro: The epilogue was satisfying and did a great job setting up the next book.

Overall: This is my first Meader book, and I am already reading my next one (Irresistible You). I loved the drama, the complications, the romance, the banter, the characters. The Rebels have won me over, and I cannot wait to read more.

When three sisters end up owning a hockey team, being surrounded by delicious men can be a good thing or a bad thing. In this instance it’s definitely a good thing.

Hockey is not one of of the Sports I usually follow however I can definitely get used to steamy hot guys that are associated when Kate Meader is involved.

This book to me was not as passionate or emotional as the first book in the series. Much of the plot was dealing with the sport side of the story and I didn’t feel quite connected to these two main characters. However, I loved them together. Great chemistry and I love seeing Vadim caring for Izzy.

There are many parts that were amusing and several parts that were sad. But to me the ending can be the most magical and this one ended with a wonderful feeling.

With one more sister to go, the next book in the series should be interesting and tie everything together. A wonderful series and definitely one to read, whether you love hockey or not.
