An excellent, substantial and readable history of the end of the Cold War and George H.W. Bush's role in US foreign policy. A well-covered period of history, Engel's book is among the best recent volumes, bringing insightful analysis and balanced reporting. Recommended to all interested in US foreign policy and Cold War in particular.

I enjoyed reading about history that I lived through, but at an age when I wasn't fully digesting all of the implications. Being President is a tough job, certainly, and this book shines a positive light on Bush's years in office.

Thank you to NetGalley for an e-ARC of this title. It took me awhile to get to it, because it wasn't available in my usual format. That said, it was an interesting book, and I enjoyed reading it. The general tone of the book is that former President Bush was underappreciated. I enjoyed the book, even though it was a bit biased, it was interesting, kept me reading and gave me some facts I hadn't had before.

Mr Engel has written a very informative and interesting book about President HW Bush, it tells of the many highlights during his presidency and all the good things that happened during that period. It is in short a book written about him being under appreciated.
