A great new addition to the Cinderella story. A modern twist with a Lycon twist to the story. I really enjoyed it and it's an older telling of the story that adults will love. (Not erotica but more romantic.)
Moonlit Waltz by Kathleen Collins is an entertaining Cinderella retelling with lycans. Full of fantasy and romance. Happily recommend.
A retelling g of the Cinderella story but with a paranormal aspect. This was a fun read and I enjoyed both Josef and Ella.
This retelling of Cinderella is one of the best I have read. With 'Ella' being a Lycan who can't produce and the prince still madly in love with her. this is just an elegant and beautiful story. It is perfect for the Young Adult genre and is also well liked by the adults, at least in my family. I recommend for lovers of fantasy as well as fair tale retellings.
This is a retelling of Cinderella, and I love this tale so much so I couldn't wait to read it.It was cute story I enjoyed more of it.I could say that this one was a little bit different and it could be read from all the ages.
Cinderella with a twist or two
I thought I knew what I was getting into with this book - girl named Ella with a widowed father? Cue the pumpkin! But from the beginning, it is clear there are a few twists. First of all, they are werewolves. Second, Ella isn’t alone - she has a brother, and neighbours next door who care about her, and that’s just the start of things! There were enough little changes that I honestly didn’t know how the story would end. You would think this was worrying, but I trusted the author to get us to a happy ending as I was not disappointed.
I would’ve liked a little more about the werewolf side of things, perhaps an ending that wasn’t so pat given the twists to get there, but that may have spoiled the clean lines of a charming little tale.
If you want a fairytale retelling that is a little different but still has that dreamy fairytale quality, give this book a go.
This book was perfect. Cinderella with werewolves! I loved this version of Ella. I liked that she stood up for herself without being a doormat and that she had a support system of friends and people who loved her. This retelling of Cinderella is a little bit different but all ages can enjoy Collins skills at retelling this classic!
I'm sad to say that I have a few books from Netgalley that I DNF on... either it didn't hook me into the story and I lost least or I found out that there is more to the series and can't get the first and so on book from that series... Yup here it goes, Don't believe me wash the dishes! Look at the website: http://fkrants.blogspot.com/2017/09/ng-dnf-sept-edition.html
Thank you Netgalley and Broad Universe for the chance to read this book! :)
OK, I'm a sucker for a book with a pretty dress on the front cover. In fact, I have been known to read/buy books based ENTIRELY on how pretty the dress it. Never mind that my own style can be described as casually-rolled-out-of-bed-with-a-side-of-fandom (jeans and a Harry Potter shirt, usually) Suffice to say that is a GORGEOUS cover, and I am in love.
So yes, the book. This is a retelling of Cinderella, and that is obvious from the beginning. This Ella has a bit more spunk than most however, and a dedicated family and friend unit to keep her steady and yes, dry her tears. At first I was a little skeptical; was this Ella a wooden Disneyfied version, or would she grow on me? And what was with the whole Lycan thing? But well, grow she did. A kind heart yes, but she was also loyal, spoke her mind and charitable. She admits to being embarrassed and upset towards the end and needs help from others. While she COULD have had more faults to be a believable character, I felt like there was enough growth from the Disney version to make me like her (and yes, I only know the Disney version before this. Sozz)
I did feel like the Lycan aspect needs more explanation. So they are all Lycans, but if the girls are born shifters they cannot reproduce. I can't help but feel that this trait would die out pretty quickly if that was the case. I also needed more transformations, and information ON transformations. The one scene we got just wasn't really enough for me.
I have a feeling the rather simple, almost old-timey writing might be off putting for some. I reminded myself this was a fairy tale retelling, and moved past it. I know many like elegant prose, but while I found this writing a little plain, it also made it easy to understand and grasp what was going on in most instances.
So if you like fairy tales with a furry twist, this one might be for you. Looks like it may be the first in a series too, which is always gives you something to look forward to. Four stars.
Ella and Josef have been childhood friends forever, and secretly in love for almost as long. But Josef is the prince and Ella is a lycan, and she can never have children because she shifts during every full moon. When her father marries an awful woman and introduces two non-shifting daughters to take Ella's place and marry Josef, Ella knows she must step aside. In their hearts, they know they are meant to be together, yet the rules are the rules...
What a cute and delightful retelling of the Perrault version of Cinderella! I hope that the author took the original furred slipper and got the idea for a werewolf Cinderella because that would be awesome. Ella is kind and always ensures the emotions of others are met, but unlike other Cinderellas (*cough* here's looking at you Disney *cough cough*) this Cinderella is not a doormat for her step-monsters to trample upon. Ella is strong-willed and fierce, and I really loved the addition of good female relationships (and alternate mother relationships!) throughout the book, particularly with her sister-in-law Katrina and the queen.
While there were some questions over the whole shifting thing (view spoiler), this is a quick, light and fluffy romantic fairy tale perfect for getting someone out of a reading slump or for a rainy day.
I received this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
