I am reviewing a copy of Troubled Waters through Revell and Netgalley:
Ian Shaw is a billionaire who can have anything he wants except maybe a happy ending, at least that is the way he feels.
His fortune was recently liquidated, his niece Esme is still missing and the woman he loves has not been speaking to him. He doubts she would date him even if they were alone on a deserted island.
Sierra Rose loves Ian, but knows he has no room in his life as long as his niece is not found. The only problem is Sierra has solved it but Esme, has asked her to keep her whereabouts a secret.
When the Peak Chopper is damaged and Sierra lacks the funds to repair it. Ian offers a three day fundraiser on his Yacht when a nightmare happens and a rogue wave disabled the yacht and sends passengers overboard.
Will the Peak team be able to rescue the two in time?
Find out in Troubled Waters five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!
I have been waiting for this couple's story since they were first introduced. They have many obstacles to overcome and layers of built up emotions to get through. Wonderful story and I love how the other characters' stories are interwoven in the storyline.
This Montana Rescue series has been an action packed, hold your breath, but don't put it down until you read the end series!! This book had some twists and turns that catch you off guard. The author does a fantastic job of making you feel like you're receiving an email from a friend, letting you know what's happening. If you read the books before this one in the series, it's like catching up with old friends! Action packed. Romance tension. Spiritual lessons. This book has it all!
I am a fan of all of Susan May Warren’s work, but Trouble Waters is now among my favorites! I enjoyed the change in setting brought by the yacht cruise, and appreciated how she has woven Sierra and Ian’s story into each of the books on the series. This is definitely my favorite in the series so far, and I can’t wait for the next book!
Putting this book down became a chore. Something I was not looking forward to, and actually dreading. I wasn’t even finished with this story and was already dying to read the next one. But I also wanted to savor each page and not finish too fast. If you love books like me you totally get what I’m saying. Everything I’ve read by Susan May Warren makes me feel this way. If you have read any of the other books in the Montana Rescue series you couldn’t help but be dying for this book to come out. We were tortured hoping and praying for Ian and Sierras story to be told. There was a lot to live up to making us wait so long, and Warren did not disappoint. If you have yet to read any of them, you might as well go get them all now. That being said, this book is also great as a stand alone novel.
Sierra loves every member of the Peak Rescue Team. In a sense they have all become her family. When the team loses their helicopter, the key to most of their rescues, she knows she must do everything in her power to fix it. Ian offering his yacht seems like the perfect way to woo some of his rich friends into writing a big check. Ian coming along was not part of her plan, and being around him isn’t easy. They used to work so good together, but secrets and obsessions have pushed them apart. Will another tragedy force them to put aside the past? Or will it only intensify the hurt between them?
I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. I was kept on the edge of my seat worried about what was going to happen next. Crossing my fingers that the team made the rescue in time. Anyone who enjoys contemporary and romantic suspense will fall in love just as I keep doing. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Review of Troubled Waters by Susan May Warran. I love the series. I have read all the books in the series and you would probably have trouble (no pun intended) keeping up if you have not read the previous books.
The author does an amazing job of having a lot of characters in the series and although two characters will have the spotlight you’ll have a secondary couple with a significant portion of the book too. This book had a main focus on Sierra and Ian with Pete and Jess taking the secondary role. More information develops regarding Esme and the mystery that we’ve been following with her disappearance.
Troubled Waters was not my favorite book in the series. Sierra just seemed too mousey and I was just tired of her moping about Ian. In addition, the trouble at sea was too much like the titanic that I just could not enjoy those scenes.
One of my favorite scenes was Sam and Pete realizing their mother is in love.
I was very impressed with how the author brought it around to Ian and his control issues. The last chapters with Ian and Jax’s conversation made the book for me.
Troubled Waters is a story of lying (Sierra lied to Ian about his precious niece.) Survival (when Ian and Sierra are tossed overboard by a massive wave.) Firing (Ian fires Sierra from being his personal assistant.) Romancing (the feeling they have for each other. Did it really go away?) Heartbreak (Ian and Sierra love each other but because of the deceit they still yearn for that love again. Will that ever happen? Or will they become friends after all this time apart?) Multiplication (there are more to this story than the story of Ian and Sierra going on-Jess and Pete and Ty and Brette's are also involved in this.)
“Troubled Waters” by Susan May Warren sparkles with redemption, resolution and saving grace amidst the picturesque beauty of a backdrop of wild Montana skies and sweeping scenery, wilderness suspense and romance. This is a high-stakes, swiftly-moving, dramatic, high-flying, mountaintop action-adventure, packed with snappy dialogue and flawed characters with emotional and spiritual challenges. It is a heartwarming story of love and sacrifice. It has an increasing complex plot and character development. Susan May Warren’s high peril situations are set at the height of human emotions, as she uses unusually trying situations and circumstances to make her characters depict illustrating truths. The main characters deal with honesty, self-control, and faith, while reaching their physical and emotional limits of self-endurance, to grow beyond their problems. They travel down difficult paths, with nothing but faith to cling on to, before they learn to truly love each other with selfless devotion. This book bears the unique stamp and hallmark of Susan May Warren’s books and makes a very interesting read. I recommend it to readers.
Oh my, Susan May Warren writes the most captivating and broken and likable characters ~ in each and every book she authors. Troubled Waters is no exception, except maybe it's even better than her last! She wrote a craft book, Deep and Wide (which I believe has been renamed Make Your Plot Wider and Your Characters Deeper), which delves into how to do what she does ~ but I am telling you she is THE master at making characters deep and wide.
Ian and Sierra are so broken that they have no idea true love is right in front of them. Well, it may be the secrets they are keeping from each other, or the fact that they are living in the past, but however Susan May Warren does it, Troubled Waters is a thoroughly enjoyable read.
The cast of characters that has been created, the entire Peak Team members and now Ian's wealthy friends, are all multi-dimensional. Even though the reader doesn't know the characters backstory, having deep secondary characters makes the main characters even more interesting.
I highly recommend Troubled Waters as well as all of Susan May Warren novels and craft books!
Susan May Warren always delivers a story that keeps you glued to your seat from the very first sentence to the very last word. This book centers around Ian and Serria and their story. There were many tense moments throughout this book with all of the PEAK rescue team members But together anything can happen. I love series books because In every book it seems like family and you root for everyone. It would be cool to see her incorporate other characters that she has written about.
Thank you to Net Galley and the wonderful publishers for allowing me to read this and other stories and to give my honest review.
Again I cannot wait until the next book in this series comes out. It is so much fun learning more and more about this team. Ian and Sierra ad a lot of stuff to get over to come together but with faith they pulled together. This story had a lot of suspense and a bit of romance, my favorite style of Book. I did not want to put this down. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Do not, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, make the mistake of picking this book up just as you’re getting into bed for the night. “Just one chapter,” I told myself. “I’ll just give myself a sneak peek before I go to sleep.” Hah! Mmfthbph chapters later I was guilted into putting it down and going to sleep, *smiles sheepishly at husband* but then I was supposed to be writing a review for a different book the next day, and do you think I could get my head out of this one? Nuh-uh. Good thing we women are excellent multitaskers! ;-)
But seriously, Ian and Sierra’s story has been stewing since the prequel novella to this series. It developed further in book one, Wild Montana Skies, and we’ve been able to follow developments in the search for Esme across the series, but it’s been a long wait for these two to finally get their happily ever after. And it turns out their relationship is the least of their worries!
Once again, Susan May Warren proves herself a master at creating harrowing man vs nature experiences for her readers. Not only that, but she uses them to challenge and grow her characters as individuals rather than just pushing them together as a couple. And Ian and Sierra definitely have some issues of their own to work through before they will survive as a couple!
And Pete and Jess! Oh man. Their story is hitting me in all the feels. My heart is still in a vice over that one, but in a good way, not an angsty way. I love the way Pete has matured over this series, especially to get to where he is in this book. <3 <3
This book fulfilled every crevice of my anticipation and then some. If you love romantic suspense, you really need to check out this series!
Billionaire Ian Shaw is used to being in charge. In fact, he has been able to control almost everything in his life - up until his niece Esme ran away, and doesn't want to be found. The mystery continues to elude him, but now his fortune has been liquidated, and worst of all - his relationship with the woman he loves is in shambles.
Sierra Rose desperately loves Ian, but finds it impossible to be around him. Not only is he desperately trying to control the world around him, but Sierra is also harboring a secret: She knows Esme's whereabouts, but has made a promise not to tell Ian. With these two walls between them, it appears their relationship will never be able to get a foothold. But when a freak tragedy occurs, Ian and Sierra are thrown together in desperate circumstances where they must work together to survive - including finally talking through their issues.
We've been waiting for Ian and Sierra's story since the prequel novella to this entire series came out over a year ago! And it did not disappoint.
Ian has been trying to control his life, and the lives of those around him, for as long as he can remember. Author Susan always does an amazing job weaving faith into her stories, and Ian's journey to God and surrender is real and raw. It takes a lot of suffering to bring Ian to his knees and realize that God is the only one who can control everything. This book is action packed, and you pretty much cannot put it down right from the first page. Being that this series centers around a rescue team in Montana, snow and mountains have become the usual scenery for us - but we enjoyed a nice break as we journeyed to the warm Caribbean with Ian and Sierra.
Also in this story, we get a glimpse into the continuing story of Pete Brooks and Jess Tagg, who are going to have a lot to work through in the next couple of books! Overall, this entire series is incredible so far, and this book just deepened our love for the PEAK Rescue Team and Susan May Warren's writing. Now, if she could just publish her books faster so we could have the rest of the series now! :)
Billionaire Ian Shaw can have everything he wants--except a happy ending. Or at least that's what it feels like with his fortune recently liquidated, his niece, Esme, still missing, and the woman he loves refusing to speak to him. In fact, he doubts she would date him even if they were stranded on a deserted island.
Despite her love for Ian, Sierra Rose knows he has no room in his life for her as long as the mystery of his missing niece goes unsolved. The only problem is, Sierra has solved it, but a promise to Esme to keep her whereabouts secret has made it impossible to be around Ian.

When the PEAK chopper is damaged and Sierra lacks the funds to repair it, Ian offers a fundraising junket for large donors on his yacht in the Caribbean. But the three-day excursion turns into a nightmare when a rogue wave cripples the yacht and sends the passengers overboard. Shaken up and soaked to the bone, Ian finally has a chance to test his theory when he and Sierra do indeed find themselves washed up on a strange, empty shore.
It will take guts and gumption for the PEAK team to rescue the duo. But it will take a miracle to rescue Ian and Sierra's relationship.
This is the fourth book in the Montana Rescue Series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ian and Sierra's story. Learn how Ian lost his money and how Sierra finds Esme. There's a mystery to her disappearance that isn't wrapped up in this story. But is expect it to be in the next book. Does anyone remember Gilligan's Island and their 3 hour tour. Well Ian and Sierra go on a 3 day tour with pretty much the same results.
I would recommend this book to everyone. I would also recommend that you read the first 3 books in the series first. It's not completely necessary but would be very helpful in connecting the characters.
I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Troubled Waters is the fourth book in the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren. This book is about Ian Shaw, a man who has everything, but lacks the woman he loves. Sierra used to work for Ian, but now works for PEAK, a search and rescue group. She thinks Ian wants nothing to do with her.
When PEAK runs into financial trouble, Sierra and Ian team up to start a fund raiser to collect donations. The gala is held on Ian's boat, the Montana Rose. The Montana Rose is caught up in some super waves and capsizes, sending Sierra and Ian out to sea. They must rely on each other to survive an uninhabited island and make it home.
Overall, I thought Troubled Waters was a good book. I thought the beginning was a bit boring. Mostly because it was about too many characters and too many situations I didn't know about. Clearly, you must read the first three books to understand all the subplots. But it picked up steam and I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure parts. The plot line was good and the characters well developed. I would recommend anyone to read this book, but start at book 1.
In Troubled Waters by Susan May Warren Sierra Rose and Ian Shaw have been waiting a long time for a happy ending. After Ian’s niece, Esme, went missing, he put all his resources into finding her with no luck. Then a series of explosions and wildfires put him in hot water with the government for his work causing him to lose the fortune he has worked so hard for. And to top it all off, the woman he loves is now refusing to speak to him. Sierra Rose didn’t think the day would come when she had to give up on Ian Shaw, but his obsessive search to find his niece left no room for her. The solution to her problem comes when she finds Esme, who doesn’t want her uncle or anyone else for that matter, to know where she is. These problems get put on hold for Sierra when the PEAK rescue team needs funds and Sierra arranges a fundraiser using Ian’s yacht in the Caribbean. Towards the end of the excursion, the ship is irreparably damaged, and the passengers end up overboard in the churning sea. Ian and Sierra must tests the boundaries of the relationship they have left along with their own survival skills in order to come out alive and help the others in any way they can.
Book four in a series can be very difficult. Your audience needs something new and fresh to stay interested but also want to continue the story of the characters they have formed a bond with over the previous books..The story of Ian and Sierra has been developing slowly with each of the previous books in the Montana Rescue series and goes full force as they finally have their own story. Fans of Warren’s writing will not be disappointed. She has brought these characters to life more than any in the series so far and the tension was at a whole new level. With the PEAK rescue team, there is always tension with someone being in danger and the team having to work together to save them, but the danger here hit home with all the characters, and not just Ian and Sierra being in a tough spot. It is nice that these books come out quick enough together that readers aren’t left waiting too long to find out what is coming next. I recommend this book to readers that are wanting a great romantic suspense with heart and a story they will not be able to put down.
This is one of my favorite series. Well, the previous series, Montana Fire is my favorite, but this is a close second to it. These books are SO good. I think one of the reasons for this is that the characters cross over to other books. Sometimes they are in the spotlight, sometimes they are in the background, but they are always there. The characters become familiar and personal- like family. I really love that feeling.
Ian and Sierra are two people that have been swirling around in every book of this Montana Rescue series. They even have their own novella! Theirs is the longest drawn out soap opera like relationship of the series. This book has been a LONG time coming for Ian and Sierra. You won't believe the drama that awaits you in this book!
This whole series is full of adventure and danger. Usually this occurs in the mountains of Montana, but this book takes things out to the Caribbean. It was terrifying, honestly. I really want to go read all about rogue waves now but I'm kinda scared to. I don't know if it will help or make me more afraid! Regardless, this book had me on the edge of my seat more than once. My feelings were invested and I was all in.
This is a series you really need to read in order. There is progression for all the characters in each book and if you skip one, you won't really get all the back history. I was so happy to see some resolution for Ian and Sierra and I just know they will be appearing in future books which makes me even happier. Nobody ever really goes away in this series.
Content: peril, kissing

“It’s never a bad thing to have only God to turn to,” (location 4688). Billionaire Ian Shaw isn’t used to relying on anyone but himself. When things start unraveling in his life, he starts to understand what Sierra was talking about. While Ian and Sierra finally come back into the spotlight, Jess & Pete also come to their own revelations. I can’t wait to get back to their story.
This is another great book in the Montana Rescue series. The Peak Rescue Team is forced into action but in an unfamiliar environment this time. It’s a survival story, romance, adventure, and a bit of the prodigal son story all rolled into one. As in all of Warren’s books, the characters are so real they become friends. I didn’t want the book to end and I’d highly recommend it.
Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Montana Rescue series:
Book 1: Wild Montana Skies
Book 2: Rescue Me
Book 3: A Matter of Trust
Book 4: Troubled Waters
From this series's prequel (which is a Kindle FREEBIE), entitled If Ever I Would Leave You, I’ve been hoping we would get back to Ian and Sierra's story. This book takes us there. Please, if you haven't yet, read this free prequel. Then, you'll have the background for Troubled Waters, and really, for the rest of the series.
We also get to follow Jess and Pete’s story, which is another reason I love this series—the threads of secondary characters keep us hooked. It’s also a good reason to read these novels in order, which I highly recommend doing. Here’s the list:

Now, back to my thoughts.
There are so many good things to like about this book! I loved the dynamic between brothers Pete and Sam. I loved the characterization, overall, but especially Susie’s male POVs. (points of view) At difficult points, we see their brokenness, in believable ways. So well done. Though the novel’s level of peril got to me a little bit (because there is a lot of it here), I enjoyed the ride. And oh, the romance! Every couple we focused on had their own romance going, which was so much fun.
Ian is a once-wealthy man who has trusted in his wealth and his own ability to control life, he thinks, to get him through. That’s why the loss of his niece eats him up, I think. (see the prequel) He tried his best to control her future, and his efforts didn’t do any good. Readers may relate with trying to control their lives out of a sense of fear. Ian has skid marks from past relationships, feeling abandoned, and he’s got a fatal flaw (this control issue) that needs to go. But his persistence and drive make him respectable, and I rooted for his success. He’s also broken, especially as his journey gets rough and I felt for him.
Sierra sees herself as second rate. She’s interpreted her life’s events as evidence for that belief. She’s stronger than she thinks and her adventures in this story, including her romance with Ian, will unravel her lie. I loved rooting for her and watching her bravely take on the challenges in her path.
I loved that Susie included herself in this story, incognito! (Read the book to find her.) And I loved the escape of sailing and revisiting summer weather this January while I read. Jesus is present in this story in a way I don’t recall in Susie’s earlier books, and I loved that!
One of the novel’s themes was how life is not easy. Trusting God is hard and even when you do, bad things happen. But how we respond to those times is what counts. That’s a relatable theme. Susie encourages readers to choose faith, another thread.
Troubles hit these characters over and over on their way to the book’s conclusion. I held my breath and cheered and cried. Every emotion. I laughed aloud a few times and delighted in this journey.
Looking back at my highlights in the Kindle ARC version, I think I’m going to want to read this one again. So much to enjoy!
I loved this novel and highly recommend it.
Troubled Water – Susan May Warren
Ian Shaw has basically lost everything. His money. His niece. And the woman he loves. He is stubborn for sure. This is book 4 in the Montana Rescue series and I have wanted this store since maybe the novella -- before the series actually came out I think! Susan May Warren has left me wanting more in the first 4 books about Ian’s story!
Sierra has some guilt haunting her when it comes to Ian and his niece. She also has some personal hardships she is facing.
Through a series of events that threatens to close down PEAK Rescue Sierra finds herself leading a fundraising trip on Ian’s yacht. This is where things get interesting. You need to read the story for yourself to find out.
I still think there are a few stories to tell in the Montana Rescue series, and I can hardly wait to read them!
Read this book!
