A sweet little book about a happy little unicorn living his life to the fullest. That's it, that's the plot. There isn't all that much more to it, but the illustrations are adorable and the little blurbs about the unicorn's positive attitude to everything are delightful. I'm unsure of what to do with this book once it's been read, though - sure, you can flick through it again, but I think it's more of a fun stocking filler than anything else. A delightful read nonetheless.
This was already on my stack when I saw someone else talking about it earlier today. I wasn’t planning to read it just yet because I was in the middle of some more pressing reviews, yet here we are. I simply couldn’t resist any longer, and I’m so glad I didn’t. This short graphic novel/illustrated book, whatever you call it, was awesomeness wrapped up in cotton candy goodness! Need a smile? Read this book. From the colorful illustrations to the witty advice this is a book filled to the brim with positivity that’s sure to delight readers of all ages. Let loose, live a little, and be a unicorn!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy for review. This is one to get in print to read over and over again.
After reading this charmingly illustrated book, I definitely want to be like Unicorn! If you are feeling down or stressed, pick up this book and revel in the sweet, funny drawings and uplifting writing. I know this book has put a smile on my face every time I have looked at it. Read the book, smile, giggle a little, and be like Unicorn.
As always, I love a title that tells you everything you can expect from the book.
There’s not much more to say about it. Everything is positivity, puppies and rainbows. “Eat the cake, but also eat the kale” kinda stuff. All pretty simplistic, but I imagine people often forget.
“Unicorn loves to feel the rain on his cheeks.” No, not those. . . okay, those too. And there’s an obligatory Trump joke, though a mild one. Some jokes are literal, like looking at the bigger picture. Then you get what you’d never thought you’d see, a unicorn on a stripper pole.
The artwork, especially the unicorn, is pretty rudimentary, though he does have the multi-colored horn.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
Be a Unicorn & Live Life on the Bright Side by Sarah Ford is a fun little book that is perfect for someone who needs a smile. While this isn't my typical genre, it's something I will read again and plan on purchasing for a few friends in the future.
This is just a fun book. It’s advice from one unicorn to another. It would make a fun gift for someone who needs a pick-me-up.
I mostly wanted to read this book because of the unicorn on the cover. Is there really anyone that doesn't want to be a unicorn?
There are parts of this book that have important messages that we could all use in our lives. For the most part, the book was just a quick fun read. The illustrations made the book. They are not grand and detailed. They make me think of a little kids drawings.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

A beautifully illustrated and fun book reminding oneself to be joyful! Sweet and adorable images and passages will put a smile on your face and some sass in your trot! Be a unicorn 🦄
Sarah Ford's "Be a Unicorn & Live Life on the Bright Side" is truly a breath of fresh air! From the adorable cover illustration (which put me under a spell) and witty lines to Anita Mangan's dorky (but extremely loveable) illustrations, this book is a little bible for those who want live their lives with a spark of optimism.
It's a short book and a good read, but do yourself a favor and read it slowly. My personal favorite would probably be "Unicorn loved to feel the rain on his cheeks." You need to figure out why. I promise it will make you love the book too!
After reading this book three times (well, because three's a charm), it made me want to be a unicorn. I'd probably be a unicorn from now on.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review! The same review was posted on my Goodreads page.
Be A Unicorn was created to inspire and create happiness, but I found it rather dull.
Many of the images are really cute and some are even funny. But the text is uninspired and actually pulls away form the illustrations. I did read this as a digital ARC so I saw a page of text and then an image, so this could of bene part of the problem.
I got a few smiles but mainly in saccharin thoughts will some cute unicorn pictures.
Such a cute fun book! I liked all of the little sayings and got a chuckle from the illustrations. I can see this being a cute gift book to give to a friend.
4.5 stars, rounded up.
Adorable! I love the bright colors. I love the goofy unicorn with the rainbow horn. I often chuckled aloud at the playful humor.
Most unicorns now-a-days are too feminine. This need not be the case. After all, the unicorn is the national animal of Scotland! (I’m not kidding, look it up.) Ford’s Unicorn has different mane colors and uses he or no pronouns, without an apparent social agenda.
“Unicorn likes to see the funny side of things and enjoys everything he does. He is proud to be different and full of positive energy.” Who wouldn’t want to be like Unicorn? Unicorn’s 10 Rules for a Good Life are wholesome and heartfelt…feel thankful, be kind to yourself, listen.
I could see reading this book to a child. It is after all filled with wisdom, silliness, and colorful pictures. It appeals to people of all ages and makes them smile along with Unicorn.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the smiles and granting access to an arc of this book for an honest review.
Everyone needs a little more unicorn attitude in their lives.
This book is joyful, full of cute illustrations, and it provides life advice. What's not to love?
I will be buying this book as gifts for friends and family, and I will also buy it as a present to me from me. I don't often give 5 star reviews, but this is a great book about unicorns and it deserves even more than 5 stars!
Simply fabulous. Everybody should have a copy of this book lying around for when they need a bit of a pick-me-up or a reminder of just how amazing they really are. 5/5 stars.
First and foremost, I want to give this unicorn a standing ovation from first page to last. I love this book and as a life long unicorn aficionado, I am also the mama to a life long unicorn loving 11 year old boy but the publishing industry has often overly geared unicorn books to girls until now. I recommend this book to those that already are part of Team Unicorn and those that will soon become honorary members. This book is super crazy awesomeness exploding in glittery rainbows.
I absolutely adore this little book!
All about positivity, with hilarious artwork, this book took me five minutes to read, but I actually took much longer if you count the times I had to put it down to laugh out loud. I grinned the entire time I was reading this and for someone with RBF that's quite painful!
Whether you're looking for an interesting little coffee table book or a book you can pick up and flip to any page to brighten your day, you need this book. Everyone needs a copy of this book.
This is a sort and cute book. In the beginning it have some rules on how and when you should read the book, and one of those rules is to read it with a smile on your face. Even if you defy that rule, you will end up with one when you put the book down. It is a simple book with the message to be your self. With cute drawings and examples, it manages to make me want to be my self, I want to be a unicorn too!
Be a Unicorn and live Life on the Bright Side – Sarah Ford – 5/5
This is one of those books that would be great as a coffee table hardback edition. It’s humorous and colourful and I enjoyed reading it.
It’s a childlike book that is aimed at all ages and would be a great read if you’re feeling down.
The book is basically a humorous take on how to live like as a Unicorn with tips like “Read this book with a smile on your face.” Well between the words and the pictures it would be hard to not have a smile on your face when reading this book.
At 100 pages this book can easily be read within an hour though its purpose is more to have lying around to dip into as the mood takes you.
Most days I'm an Oscar the Grouch, but now I want to be a unicorn. A+ exactly what I needed.
(Full disclosure: I received a free electronic ARC for review through NetGalley.)
Short, cute and magical encouragement by a unicorn for the fellow unicorns. Life lesson how to live your life like a unicorn aka how to be happy and kind to others.
I really enjoyed this little read. I love unicorns so when I see the cover I wanted to read this. It has simple pictures and simple text but for what this book intends to be it's quite nice. If you need a little chuckle in your life, then read this book.
