I fell in love before I even opened the book. I saw the cover and that was it. The dorky little unicorn became my favorite thing in the world. It was that intense and that immediate. I had very high hopes for the book. The description just made me lose it. I had promised myself I wouldn't stray from the schedule of books I have to review for anything, this book broke that without even any resistance.
I want to point out that the author refers to the unicorn as "he" on most of the pages, it could be all of the pages but I wasn't monitoring it until the bikini page. The unicorn goes about being a fantastic unicorn and the book tells the reader they should be a unicorn too. The unicorn wears the bikini, the unicorn does what makes the unicorn happy, the unicorn doesn't let fear stand in the way.
Even after reading this book, I am in love. The art stays this dorky. The unicorn is a unicorn. I don't think the book could get any better.
I adore this book. It's small, but mighty in it's message. For an offbeat individual such as myself who loves all things filled with "glitter and goodness" this book was a nice reminder to be yourself and that it's okay to follow you own path in life and just be who you want to be. The introductory pages and the 10 Rules were my absolute favorite. I enjoyed the remaining parts of the story, as well, but some of the things were predictable although good reminders. The illustrations were simply adorable. I found myself smiling as I read. I actually read the entire thing in one sitting. It was that good and needed. It is a quick book that people can read when they need a pick me up. I would definitely add this book to my personal collection. I need a copy at work! As a middle school educator, I could selected parts as pick-me ups for my class. I could even use the unicorn as a character to remind my students to do positive things. My students could even create their own positive unicorn stories or life adage.
Eh, I guess I am not a unicorn, nor am I living the unicorn life. I found myself wondering how long all these sickeningly sweet bon mots were going to go on. It would have been funny if it had been a third as short. 100 pages of cute unicorns thinking and acting on life was a bit much to take, even though it was only one thought per two pages.
Not for kids, although kids love unicorns, but they might not get all the statements of how to live a good life.
This is probably one of those gift books you see at the checkout lane at the book store, that you glance through while waiting in line, but put back before you make your purchases.
THanks to NetGalley for making this book available for an honest review.
This is a cute and fun book all about positive thinking. I loved the images and I can see this being a fab little stocking filler or birthday present, especially for unicorn lovers out there! 4 stars from me.
This is a sweet book filled with positivity and joy, but it's another of those books that I am left wondering what the purpose of it is. Once you've flicked through it once, what do you do with it? It might make a thoughtful book for anyone who is struggling to remain positive and needs a boost, or a stocking filler present. I love the brightly coloured images of unicorn, and the font is a great choice. But as all of the little bits of information are about 'unicorn', I didn't get as much positivity from this book as I had hoped!
This was a fun read. It was nice getting into the world of Unicorn and seeing his positive attitude. It put me into a good mood. This book might be good for leaving aside and picking it up when in need of a mood-lifter, but I can see myself memorizing the lines and losing the magic if I read it too much.
I thought "Be a Unicorn & Life Live on the Bright Side" was such a cute and short read. It explains how one Unicorn lives his life to the fullest and enjoys every minute of it. While it is comedy and just a light book, "Be a Unicorn" definitely has some real life advice tips. If we were to live life as carefree as Unicorn does then I believe we would all be a bit better off. The illustrations in this book were also extremely cute and very humorous. It's about an 100 page book and it took me about ten minutes to get through the entire thing. I think it would be a great white elephant gift or coffee table book.
A delightful little book of uplifting messages and life advice from a unicorn.
A feel good, self help book disguised with Unicorns! The colorful illustrations really helps push the positive messages that Unicorn gave to the reader. This title makes you laugh but also step back and re-evaluate life! Adorable and recommend.
Be A Unicorn and Live Life on the Bright Side by Sarah Ford begins with notes and description of how unicorns feel and act. Unicorn's 10 Rules for a Good Life hold up as sage advice. The majority of the book are uniquely beautiful illustrations paired with a one sentence nugget of unicorn wisdom. I LOVE the pictures of the smiling unicorn who is happy wen skipping and trotting. This book is funny and uplifting. Be A Unicorn is the perfect gift book & I can't wait to buy this for friends!
This exact review appeared on my goodreads page as well:
This book was adorable. The illustrations were beyond cute and were extremely comical. They were accompanied by positive advice for life. My favourite has to be the "don't judge a book by its cover illustration." There definitely needs to be more of this. A feel good book for sure.
Be a Unicorn and live on the brighter side of life by Sarah Ford a bright and cheerful five-star read.
This was the sweetest shortest read ever, but I adored it. I was in a major book hangover and waiting for a download due at midnight so only wanted a quick read, that would give me a giggle, and this gave me both in spades.
I will be honest I picked it up as I love unicorns and then you get inspirational quotes to go along with them, I was so sorted. If you are in need of a little pick me up, this is the read for you, but it’s for you if you just want to see the lighter and brighter side of life. Pick it up you won’t be disappointed. If you are looking for a little present for someone that's difficult to buy for this would be amazing, I plan on buying several copies in time for Christmas.
The story was absolutely adorable. I couldn't help but find a smile on my face as I read about the unicorn. The illustrations made the notes all the more fun to read. I would definitely recommend this for someone feeling stressed out and needing a short read to make their day :)
This is a cute little book of life lessons, presented in a way that adults and children can understand and enjoy. I can imagine this being a great gift recommendation.
Ummm, this was adorable! I love books that make me feel good and remind me to show myself a little love. And it has such cute illustrations! "With a swish of his tail, he brushes away the blues, so that every day sparkles."
What a great book full of laughter and sunshine - except when Unicorn does his colouring. The book might be quick to read but will stay a long time in your heart.
I encourage all to buy this book.
I love this little book of unicorn wisdom! I just wish it was longer because I didn't want it to end. Unicorn has got it all figured out. He lives in the moment, looks for the good in others, accepts himself for who he is and takes time to enjoy himself.
Sarah Ford gives the reader simple, bite sized pieces of self care that for some reason feel easier to apply to your life because a unicorn is the one dispensing the wisdom. Regardless of your mindset at the start I doubt anyone could make it through this book without a smile on their face and at least one cheeky chuckle.
Anita Mangan's illustrations are just perfect. What would have been a cute book without the pictures turns into something you want to return to again and again with them. I fell in love with this quirky, adorable unicorn. You haven't seen anything until you've seen a unicorn giving you a toothy smile or pole dancing. I had several smirks and chuckles during the book but my bursting out laughing moment came when Unicorn jumped in the puddles.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley (thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity) in exchange for honest feedback. I'm going to be returning to this book whenever I need to recharge, smile and receive a gentle reminder that self care is a necessity, not a luxury.
Cute, short book about taking a positive look at life. For fans of SARK and Sarah's Scribbles. Lots of happy thoughts about self-care and living life on the bright side.
