This book was phenomenal. Charley is independent, snarky and fabulous. Reyes is protective, alluring, dangerous and hot as sin. I absolutely adored this author's voice. Her narratives and storyline left me on the edge of my seat. And her secondary character development was spot on. This was a great start to this series and I will be reading more from this author.

Amazing beginning to what is going to be a fantastic series.

Even from this first book the characterisations were spot on. You can't help but fall in love with the wise-cracking Charley, the sexy but oh so mysterious Reyes, and all the surrounding characters. I can't wait to see what this author has instore for all of them in future books.

I highly recommend this series.

This entire novel, from the first page to the last page, is absolutely hysterical. First Grave On The Right brings forth so much sarcasm, wit, and attitude that you can't help but fall in love with Charley Davidson's "Take S**t From No One" philosophy on life. This attitude gets Charley into more less-than-desirable situations and the time it takes to figure out how she gets out of them leaves the reader in agony--the fidgets from the suspense and pain from the uncontrollable laughter. Let me clue you on a bit about Ms. Davidson:

Charlotte "Charley" Davidson can see dead people - literally. She was born into the world 27 years ago as thee Grim Reaper. Ghosts come to her for help moving from our world to the next one - she helps them to "see the light" as it were. There is the occasional spirit, however, that can't let go because of some injustice done to them that, in turn, caused their demise. This is where we meet Charley in Book 1 of the series.

When Charley is visited by the spirits of 3 lawyers she is pulled into a case of "who killed my ghosties?" This involves her in some very dangerous situations as she tries to find the murder or murders. In the meantime, she is being haunted in her dreams by a man from her past, Reyes, and an otherworldly creature she can't seem to figure out the identity of - for the sake of argument she has named him Big Bad. She also has to contend with non-believers in her "gift" and the weirdness that is Garrett. There is a ton of sexual tension between Charley and Garrett, and a lot of the same from both Reyes and Big Bad.

She discovers that Reyes may be coming to her in her dreams but that he is also alive but not so well off in a different part of the state. As she starts putting things from her childhood, teenage years, and now adulthood together she realizes that Reyes isn't at all who or what she thinks he is - and her revelations surprised me as well.

This novel is extremely well written. The plot is solid and secure and makes complete sense throughout. Charley is a strong Reaper, determined to take care of the business she was dealt at birth. I loved all of the characters including The Spawn of Satan, Ubie, and the Step-Dragon (I'm not sure she's actually called that in the book but I thought it appropriate), and Cookie.

You won't be disappointed with this book especially if you love a good, suspenseful, comical, mystery of Charley Davidson proportions.

Just have to say freakin awesome. I love paranormal but this book just takes it to the next level. Charlie is so snarky, so unlucky, and so misunderstood; I love her. I have to say this book was such an amazing find to me, I have seen it several times but put off reading it now I am upset that it took me this long. The description of the characters was so impressive that I wish I was there to see them. When Charlie realizes that her life is about to get even more complicated because of the entity that has entered all aspects of her life, she knows things will never be the same. I cannot wait to read the rest of these books. Thank you NetGalley and Darynda Jones for allowing me to read this book and write a honest review.

I loved this book! Charley is one of the funniest characters I have ever read. She made me laugh out loud so many times! She is sarcastic and witty and I just love everything about her. I also really love all the side characters. The one thing that I didn't really enjoy was Reyes.. I just didn't see why she was so into him. He was also so mean to her.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The fact that I love this book has entirely to do with the fact that it is a superb book.

A terrific beginning to an outstanding series. This is honestly one of my favorite paranormal series. I have reread this multiple times, and I find new things to love about it every time. This book gives you Charley, a grim reaper who is just now understanding her place in the world, and introduces you to Reyes, the hottest son of Satan to exist. Once you start this series, you will not be able to stop.

Came across this book a couple years ago and instantly got hooked. OMG! This series is amazing and I can't get enough. I am absolutely in love with the characters. They are so much fun. I find them engaging adn highly entertaining. The story itself is just....wow! I mean Charley sure has a lot to deal with. I can't even imagine how she holds herself together sometimes. Let's not forget the Son of Satan Ryes. OMG that man is fine! He is so devoted to Charley and they really are a cosmic couple. In this book it is the beginning and Charley is just learning new things about herself and the shadow that comes at night and in the shower. The shadow that gives her such intense pleasure that makes her think the dreams are real.Helping souls cross and drinking coffee are her thing. This book is an absolute page turner. Not to mention I love the catchy phrases at the beginning of each chapter. I highly recommend this series.

FIRST GRAVE ON THE RIGHT is the first novel in Darynda Jone’s Charley Davidson Grave series. Charlotte aka Charley is a part-time private investigator and a full-time Grim Reaper. NOT a Grim Reaper in the guise of a dark cloak, skeletal hand and sickle, but a sexy, self-assured, slightly supernatural woman who helps people cross-over between the planes. And of course…she sees dead people. But these dead people usually want something from Charley and her natural ‘sparkly’ personality seems to attract the recently deceased.

Charley’s father is a retired police office and is aware of his daughter’s ability to communicate with those who have yet to cross., but to what extent is a mystery. And Uncle Bob (aka Ubie) frequently calls upon Charley to assist with murder investigations and the victim’s accountings of the events. A recent trio of murders, all partners in a law firm, have everyone looking to Charley for help including the three late lawyers. But there are those who refuse to acknowledge Charley’s ability to speak with the murder victims, and although her track record at solving the murders and uncovering clues is 100%, the non-believers will be harder to convince. But when all the clues start pointing to a possible connection between a controlling strip-club owner and a human trafficking ring, it is Charley who convinces the others, to allow her to go in undercover.

There are several secondary storylines including a domestic abuse case and missing children. And it is Charley who feels the effects of failure when she realizes that all was for not. We get a glimpse into Charley’s past including her step-mother’s anger and Charley’s desperation to save a young man from a brutal beating that could have ended his life. But life has a way of coming full circle, and some of those she has touched, will remember her for what she has done.

Darynda Jones use of spunky language, double entendre, and euphemisms will have you laughing and asking….”did she just go there?” And wait until you meet “Danger” and “Will Robinson” & “Beam Me Up “ and “Scotty” snort as well as a whole host of intricately named ‘characters’. Garret Swopes as the detective who loves to hate Charley, adds another dimension to a cast of characters with otherwise fruitful intentions. Angel, as the thirteen year old spirit who remains behind to watch over his mother: Mr. Wong-the other resident in Charley’s apartment, Cookie as Charley’s assistant and BFF, and Charley’s Aunt Lil who makes a ‘mean cup of coffee’. But it is Reyes Farrow that will grab your attention and make you sit up and ask….”what the hell…literally?”

Reyes has and will figure prominently in Charley’s life: from the day she was born. But it is her ‘erotic’ dreams of passionate kisses and sexual need that will open Charley to another existence. An existence she never thought would merge. Throughout her life, there has always been another-one who has played guardian and self-appointed executioner whenever and wherever Charley’s life was threatened. Big Bad has always lurked in the corners whenever Charley was in need, but it is his true identity that will push Charley beyond the boundaries of good and evil. And with it comes the knowledge that perhaps she has known who he was-all along. And one should always ask—before taking the devil into your bed!!! But it is Charley’s relationship with Reyes that will open up new possibilities and perhaps end her life-all in the name of heaven. For one is the portal and the other is the key.

First Grave on the Right is a great introduction to Darynda Jones’s Charley Davidson Grave series. Written in first person POV, I love how we hear everything Charley thinks. I look forward to Darynda’s cast of characters and spirits, as well as Charley’s extended family. But it is the relationship between Reyes and Charley that forces my eyes open into the wee hours of the morning, hoping to catch another glimpse of what can only be called-perfection in the male of the species.

I remeber first reading this book years ago and I immediately feel in love with this series. Reyes is so adorable, strong and heads over heels in love with Charley. There are so many questions and we do get some answers and the big one is just wow. I love, love, love this series ever since then. Charley is amazing, sassy and funny but also very compassionate. She helps the poor souls to get their justice and helps them pass into the light. So of course you can expect a lot of action, mystery and fun. There are not enough scenes between Reyes and Charley but the few that we do get, wow. I always wish for more of them, since they fit perfectly together. I also adore Charleys family and friends, also her ghostly friends. All in all, this story and the whole series is worth a chance. I cannot wait for the next book that will hopefully come out soon.

I didn't have much time to read this, but once I got to the halfway point on it, I just couldn't put it down! It had somewhat of a unique premise for me, which got me interested in it in the first place, but I never would have expected what I got out of this!

It reminded me of a few of my favorite Paranormals from the past, and some of my not so favorites too. Charley was a mix of Anita Blake, Cat Crawfield, and Sonja Blue, but she was more than that too. I loved her wit, her inability to stay down when she took a beating, and her tenacity when presented with a mystery or a problem to solve.

Reyes was a mystery, but his big reveal was not what I was expecting! I was shocked by it, and I immediately started thinking of Piers Anthony's For Love of Evil in relation to him. He was a very complex and richly written character.

The world building wasn't overt, but it was there toward the end of the book and very entertaining to read. The characters were engaging and interesting to read about. The book was very well written and I am eager to read more in this universe!
