Irini Harringford is a successful doctor with a live-in lover, but she’s terrified of her sister, Elle. Raised by adoptive parents, Irini grew up with a host of medical problems and longed to fit in. When she was teased mercilessly by classmates for her disability, her birth sister, Elle, stepped in and stopped the abuse by beating the living hell out of the lead tormentor. As a child, Rini didn’t know whether to worship her sister or fear her. As she grew up, she realized fear was the right response and tried to keep her whereabouts a secret from her toxic sister, but somehow, Elle has always found her. Now she calls to say that their mother is dead and that Rini needs to attend the funeral. Against her better judgement, Rini agrees, knowing that with her unbalanced sister, anything could happen. This book was a difficult read for me, because, Elle was so horrible (she kills her own dog), and because I wanted Rini to be stronger. Still, it’s a riveting read, as readers will want to know why Rini was given up for adoption and Elle was not
