I really enjoyed this series overall. There were some 5 star books in there and a couple that were closer to 2 stars. I loved how it started out and it hit a point where I just loved every book, and then something happened toward the end that just killed the series for me. I didn't like how she chose to end the series and that was a really sad thing. There are probably a lot of people out there who feel the same way. I was so invested in these characters for so long that I felt like they didn't get the ending I had hoped they would. So, I was definitely a little let down at the end. That said, I do tend to come back to this series again and again, I just stop reading when I feel like I am at a point where I am satisfied with the story!
This was a fun opportunity to re-enter the world of Sookie Stackhouse. I enjoyed the chance to relive some of the Southern Vampire series, even though this book didn't seem to add too much to the general plot of the series. Still, it was a lot of fun.
I love all things Sookie Stackhouse! This book made me go back and reread the other stories just so I could connect and follow these short stories. If you are a fan of the series read this book!
I tend to forget how much I enjoy reading Charlaine Harris until I start another one of her books. This collection of short stories featuring everyone's favorite mind-reading waitress gives us a number of short bursts of Harris' energetic writing with a few more glimpses into the lives of those in Bon Temps, Louisiana.
Like many, I presume, I was drawn to Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books because of the True Blood cable television series. I've read a few of the books and enjoyed them, but would not by any stretch of the imagination consider myself an ardent fan of either the show or the books. The books are a pleasant mix of horror, fantasy and romance and Harris' writing is smooth and simple, making it easy to sit down and read a lot in one day.
I liked this collection a lot because we get all of the positive aspects of the books - interesting characters and settings in the paranormal world - with stories that move along briskly. Of the novels that I've read I've sometimes felt that the stories were stretched to fill a novel length but didn't really have a novel's worth of material to tell.
Each story is introduced by the author and the reader is told where in the Sookie canon the story takes place. These didn't mean a thing to me, but perhaps it would be important to some.
I'm not sure I can pick a favorite. I got caught up in the storytelling right off the bat with the first story and felt that same way through most of them. The final story stands out just a little but mostly because it wasn't strictly a Sookie Stackhouse story, though she does appear in it. My least favorite was a little easier to pick out. "Small-Town Wedding" really did nothing for me and I looked forward to finishing it and moving on to a different story.
This, to me, is great vacation reading material. It's quick to read, easy to digest, slightly edgy because of the paranormal aspect, but if you leave the book on a plane or in a motel room, you won't spend a lot of time stewing over it.
I enjoy reading short stories and I enjoyed reading these.

This definitive collection is the perfect binge read for people who like their stories with bite!"
Is it really "complete" though? Does it have all the Sookie-verse stories without Sookie!?! Doesn't look like it...
This collection of stories is fantastic for anyone in mourning after the end of the Sookie Stackhouse series or the television series. For me, it was like visiting old friends--if your old friends are all vampires and werewolves.
I would recommend this book to any of my friends because I don't know a single gal or guy who wouldn't gain some enjoyment from the stories. I was a little sad reading them knowing that this was pretty much it for these characters, but I can honestly say that I'm glad I read the stories anyway.
I wouldn't suggest reading them if you're expecting something super fantastic, though. The tales are great, but they should not be looked at or expected to be a continuation of a series that has already ended. They're more of an add-on, bonus materials.
If you are a fan of Sookie Stackhouse or the True Blood TV Series you must read "The Complete Sookie Stackhouse Stories" by Charlaine Harris!! I have always thought the books were much better than the tv series, although I loved it too!
Thank you for the chance to review this book, however, unfortunately, I was unable to read and review this title before it was archived.
What a wonderful book. I’ve read several of these short stories but it’s great having them in one book. Also a blurb by Charlaine Harris before each offering give you context of when story would take place. A few returning minor characters and several new ones. Any Sookie fan has to get this book and it’s a great introduction to the vampire world for new readers. Makes me want to go back and reread the series. Loved this book.
Great to have all these fun stories in one place. I've always enjoyed them.
Harris has out done herself with “The Complete Sookie Stackhouse Stories!” Harris has collected short stories from her Southern Vampire Mysteries into one collection. While nothing groundbreaking, it fills a need in fans of Sookie and gang since the 2013 conclusion of the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Reading this collection of short stories is like slipping on a favorite glove.
Fans of the series who have not previously read the individual short stories, will undoubtedly enjoy this new collection.
Note: Netgalley provided an ARC to this reviewer in exchange for a fair and honest review.
4.5 - 5 stars... great spending time with Sookie and friends again ;)
I know a lot of readers read the short stories and novellas as they were released, but I wasn't one of them. If there was any in this collection that I happened to read, it's been so long I forgot. Having them all in one place was a definite advantage for me and it was fun catching up with some of my favorite (and not so favorite) characters. Since the stories were short, my reviews on each one will be too. ;)
“Fairy Dust” - those fairies... I forgot how much 'fun' they could be. In Fairy Dust, Sookie helps the triplets (who knew?) figure out who killed their sibling, then leaves them to their own brand of justice.
“One Word Answer”
“Dracula Night” - Eric flustered doesn't happen very often. I kinda enjoyed seeing him 'off.' The Great Pumpkin reference made me chuckle, but somehow I doubt the vamps would have found it quite as Humorous. :)
“Lucky” - I forgot how much fun (at time) Amelia and Sookie were together. Amelia didn't always do things the way that Sookie would have liked, but in this case, she helped get the job done ;)
“Gift Wrap” - Once again Niall proves that he doesn't always show his love of his granddaughter in the most conventional of ways.
“Two Blondes” - Pam and Sookie's friendship was always... strange? In Two Blondes they took a little road trip, had some fun, almost got themselves killed... a typical night on the town where Sookie was concerned.
“If I Had a Hammer” - Spending time with JB and Tara would have been more of a treat if it weren't for the fact that they unearthed something even more sinister than the undead.
“Small-Town Wedding” - I know I'm one of very few readers who was actually okay with how the series ended. This weekend with Sam kind of cemented that for me.
“Playing Possum” - Sookie used her powers for good this time, with a little bit of help.
“In the Blue Hereafter” - I haven't read any Charlaine Harris' other series, but In the Blue Hereafter made me want to pick up one or two (Harper Connelly & Midnight Texas) . It was the only short story that wasn't told from Sookie's POV, but she was most definitely front and center.
A collection of all the short stories that fill in the small gaps between the Southern Vampire series written by Charlaine Harris. I’m not usually a short story reader, but I really enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse universe so was willing to give this collection a shot for the sake of revisiting the world. Before each selection, Harris includes information about where the story fits in along with some of the reasons she wrote them. Overall, going back to where the series began more or less, was nice. I admit to not really enjoying the end of the series, but reading Sookie again as an optimist, still working on discovering the details of the supernatural world was a nice blast to the past. There aren't any major shockers, but it does provide a bit of backstory to some of the moments in the series and gives fans just like me some deeper insight into this world. In the end an enjoyable collection and fun read.
I had read all the Sookie Stackhouse books before, so I knew that I would love a collection of them! These ten short stories really bring you right back in to Bon Temps and the menagerie of characters. Love reading about this world!
I actually think that the story was a bit boring.
The beggining did not start well. In my opinion the main theme was not so interesting. I know that this is a really famous series, in fact I've seen the TV Show and liked it. However, this particular book did not bring me any wow factor. Yes it had moments that were interesting, but they weren't enough and in general I felt a bit disapointed.
Thx to Netgalley, Ace Publishers and Charlaine Harris for this ARC. I love Sookie Stackhouse, so I knew I’d love all her collection of stories. Even though it’s been a while since I’ve read anything a Sookie, it was easy enough to pick up all the short stories and easily remember the books in between, if you love Sookie and her friends, you will definitely love this collection of stories. It belongs on your shelf with the rest of the Sookie Stackhouse Books !
Oh this was fun - these ten short stories with introductions from Harris bring back some great memories and the feel of Bon Temps - that background noise that keeps you edgy and wondering just what is next.
From a Christmas 'present' from the fairies to a road trip with Pam, return of Bob the cat and Amelia, a wedding in Sam's family, Tara and the Twins, Bubba the vampire and the always in the background Bill Compton and Eric Northman - the stories bring forward memories and plenty of smiles.
Perhaps my favorites of this collection are Two Blondes which follows a road trip into Russel's territory by Sookie and Pam - with plenty of twists and turns. Then was Small Town Wedding, which featured Sam's family and the wedding of his younger brother - and Sookie being his 'girlfriend' for the weekend. This one featured the return of Quinn - in all of his tiger sleek glory to serve as protection and get closure on his relationship with her. Lastly was In the Blue Hereafter - featuring a character that is coming in the Midnight Texas series, Manfred, and his journey guided by his dead grandmother to Bon Temps to meet Sookie and find some answers. Oh the twists and spirits are strong in this collection - and those who have familiarity with the books will instantly recognize most of the people here. I'm so happy to have read this collection - it's added a baker's dozen more titles to my tbr pile for the holidays - and I can't wait to dive into them!
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Nice collection of stories before the books began to become so tedious (aka "jumped the shark"). None of them were spectacular, but a good reminder of why people enjoyed the series previously as it still shows a touch of humor and the titular character displayed backbone that latter books did not possess..
This is a collection of short stories (and one novella), all of which take place in the wonderful world of Sookie Stackhouse. Correction. It is ALL of the Sookie Stackhouse short stories (many previously published in anthologies), including a novella that has never been published before. So, if you are a Sookie nut like me, chances are you’ve read some of these before. And you’ll love them just as much the second time around (or third or fourth or…).
What can I say? If you’ve been here for a while, you know how I feel about Charlaine Harris. If she’s published it, I’ve read it. And if you know what a prolific writer she is, you know that’s saying a lot. And Sookie? Sookie is my favorite. She could have written a hundred more Sookie books and I would have read them all. To say I miss the people of Bon Temps is a gross understatement. So, reading these stories was a little like going home and visiting after a long time away. And what a great visit it was!
My most interesting takeaway from this book is it changed my feelings about Sookie’s relationship with a particular person. Truthfully, I was never really satisfied with how things ended with the series. It made sense, but it didn’t feel right. Reading the novella changed that for me. It shined a different light on their relationship, put them in a real world scenario, and all of a sudden, it seemed like the most natural thing in the world. It’s disheartening to have one of your favorite series end in a way that doesn’t sit right with you, especially when you’ve dedicated so much time to that world. Having that “offness” righted is beyond satisfying.
Honestly, I doubt most people would be reading this book if they weren’t fans. The way they are written, there is a lot that probably wouldn’t make sense if you didn’t know the background stuff. And if you’re a fan, you won’t be disappointed. Classic Sookie with some new insights. For me it was a lovely visit that didn’t last long enough. Now I’m considering rereading the whole series and binge watching True Blood again. In fact, I’m very much looking forward to it!
I’m not usually a short story reader, but I really enjoyed the Sookie Stackhouse universe so was willing to take a risk. I’ve read a few other collections of the short stories from Sookie’s world and wasn’t disappointed. This was a good set that took you back to a familiar world. Obviously, I wouldn’t recommend this as a starter set for this series.
I don’t think I’m going to review each story individually, since you wouldn’t pick this up to just read one or two. Overall, going back to where the series began(-ish) was nice. I admit to not really enjoying the end of the series, but seeing Sookie as an optimist, still working on discovering the details of the supernatural world was a nice reminder of how wonderful it could all be. You can really see the change in her character as time progresses in these stories.
Overall, some of my favorites were the ones where Sookie gets to use her powers for good. Two Blondes was fun – but Pam is always fun to go on adventures with. Dracula Night also showed Sookie flexing her human muscles. Lastly, Playing Possum gives you a really nice look into the dynamic Sookie and her only other telepathic relative have. That one was particularly fun to read as you almost never get to see them on their own. There was a lot of dark thrown into the story, but it was all worth it for a happy ending. If you enjoyed the series at all, you’ll like these little stories, too. Definitely a nice addition to the world.
