I enjoyed reading Christmas at Two Love Lane by Kieran Kramer, book one in her new Two Lane series. Macy Frost was born to be a matchmaker, especially considering it’s rumored she a direct descendent of Cupid. When Deacon Banks walks into her office, Macy knows she will have to work hard to please this Yankee. Deacon isn’t interested in finding his perfect match, he just wants a few no-string dates while he is in town. Macy is determined to make Deacon fall in love only to have the tables turned when her friends, Deacon’s date, set her up with him. Can these two non-believers in love find love?
I really loved reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. Ms. Kramer wove a delightful story, drawing me in and not letting go until I read the last page. I definitely recommend this book to other readers and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
What a delight this book was after my previous book (Millard Salter’s Last Day), which I struggled to read, cringed at writing a review of it and was anxious to finish, so I could then begin “Christmas at Two Love Lane”.
Kieran Kramer’s new book is a wonderful visit to Southern Charm, Romance from the Heart, Friendship and Quirkiness. Charleston, in this book reminds me of New Orleans, where if you talk long enough to someone, you find out that you know someone in common or that you are related!
Three friends and their former house-mother from their college days run a “couple matching service” on Two Love Lane. They are in the business since they have a knack for seeing who would be compatible as a couple and truly love to spread joy. Almost immediately, I was drawn into the story and I loved these four women. Charleston is described in such a wonderful way that I adored the place that the story unfolds.
Macy, who is trying her best to match soulmates, finds herself in a bit of a fix, since a man (Deacon) enters her business as a client and she realizes over time, that he is her soul-mate, but it is policy of the business to put the client’s needs before their own, resulting in the awkward situation. She tries to set up Deacon with several women in hopes that he finds out that his happiness lies in a serious romantic relationship not casual dating.
Meanwhile, Deacon realizes that he likes Macy more than any woman that she could match him up with on a date. That is where the story really gets exciting.
Will these two people, who are clearly meant to be together, find the path become a couple. Everyone in the story wants to help them find each other and that was truly a joy to read. This was a story with many awesome people that want the best for each other. Even the most disagreeable characters are not that bad.
Deacon and Macy have a lot of starry-eyed longing before they have sex, which is nice to me in this genre of romance novels, where so often the couple gets to the steamy part, before they are in love. I much prefer that they love each other first (even if they don’t admit it at the time). I also liked that the steamy parts were not too detailed in the explanation. I have an excellent imagination and I do not need details written out all the time to get the idea.
As in all romance stories, this one ends happily. I enjoyed this book so much and am looking forward to the next in the series, “A Wedding at Two Love Lane”, which will be released in January 2018.
Thank you to NetGalley.com for providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a typical holiday romance. Deacon Banks has an aunt who raised him who wants him to find a girl and settle down once and for all, though he has no real desire to do this. Deacon agrees to go to Two Love Lane, a match making agency started and run by women who have had their share of ups and downs in love. Macy Frost, who is supposed to be a direct descendant of THE Cupid, tries to convince him that she can find him the perfect woman, though Deacon just wants to have a few dates while in town. Little does he know that he will find the woman of his dreams, in Macy. Still, Macy continues to think she will find Deacon the woman he has always sought, whether consciously or unconsciously. The book follows their journey as they each try to do their best to achieve their goals/desires. Can the holiday spirit work its magic? Will both stop long enough to realize they need not look any further?
This is a holiday romance. I enjoyed the book but felt it dragged a bit and seemed to beat around the bush a lot, at least initially, so had some difficulty getting into it. The characters are interesting and well done. The plot and story line fit well together. As I said, I did find it a bit difficult to get into, though, once I got used to the author’s style, I found it easier to read. This is a Christmas book, though there is not all that much about Christmas in it. Finally, this is a good start on the series that is planned. I am not sure how the next one will turn out, hopefully at least as good as this one. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
I loved Christmas at Two Love Lane! Such a good romance that was well written with a good story line. I recommend this to readers who enjoy a good romance.
A slow paced Christmas contemporary romance, MAcy and her friends runa matchmaking business. Deacon hires them to find perdect dates to satisfy his aunt. But Macy decides to find him ihis soulmate. Little does both of them know that she is his soulmate. A enjoyable read with lots of drama, humor, southern charm and interesting characters
Christmas at Two Love Lane was my first ever Kieran Kramer, but it certainly won’t be my last! Fun, flirty and fabulous, Christmas at Two Love Lane is a sweet and sassy romance you will not want to miss!
Macy Frost does not take her duties as a matchmaker for a discerning and elegant clientele lightly. She takes her job extremely seriously which is why she is not best pleased when Deacon Banks strides through the doors of Two Love Lane one crisp December day and asks her to find him a woman he can date casually for a couple of weeks to keep his social climbing aunt happy and off his back. Macy is absolutely convinced that she can find Deacon a woman he can fall madly in love with and spend the rest of his life with. But the more time she spends with tech entrepreneur Deacon, the more she realises that rather than the prominent Charleston beauties on her books, the only suitable woman for him might be herself!
When Deacon had walked through the doors of the elegant matchmaking agency Two Love Lane, he had been simply looking for some light-hearted fun and some casual dates – he had certainly not been looking for ‘the one’! But then again he hadn’t counted on meeting hopelessly romantic matchmaker Macy Frost, a gorgeous Southern belle who quickly begins to melt all his resolve to stay stubbornly single! As he begins to fall head over heels in love with Macy, Deacon wonders whether he will manage to convince her to take a chance on love.
Will Macy stop trying to fix Deacon up with other people and look closer to home? Or will she let this chance at happiness slip through her fingers?
I loved, loved, loved this book! Sparkling with Southern charm, humor, heart and warmth, I was laughing and crying all throughout Christmas at Two Love Lane! Full of wonderful characters you simply cannot help but love, wit, pathos and magic, Christmas at Two Love Lane is a wonderful festive treat romance readers the world over should give themselves this holiday season!
A sweet story about two people who are afraid of commitment working through their fears to find each other.
This was such a sweet and adorable Christmas read I thoroughly enjoyed it!! The characters were brilliant and I loved the plot too! I now want to go back and read the other books in the series! This is the first one I have read and it definitely works as a stand alone but I do feel that after reading it I would have benefitted from reading the rest – a festive treat – 4 stars from me!
This book is a sweet and charming Christmas read, where the matchmaker may have met her match and the doubters or rather "the cynics" may fall hard. Very hard. So maybe the wrong woman is exactly the right one? The Forever-one?
Coming to Charleston as a favor to his aunt who has raised him wasn't supposed to turn put as such a turning point in his life but somehow Cupid works his magic and Deacon Banks must realize that there is more to life than working and a revolving bed. But it might not be that easy for the leopard to change his spots...
On the whole, I really enjoyed reading this book with its southern charm and its quirky and sweet characters but it felt a bit drawn out. Things happened and I was smiling and thinking that this was it and now...and off. Another rejection, another "this is not professional, we can't..." and we were back to square, well, maybe not one but two or three at least. That was a bit too much and a bit frustrating but nevertheless it is a book that I enjoyed reading and that I will definitely read again.
Wanted to wait and read all the Christmas season books all at once over Christmas week...but glad didn’t wait. Very good read
Review By Amber for Love Romance Books
Macy is extremely proud to be a matchmaker. She is convinced it runs in her blood, and she is part owner of a successful matchmaking business at Two Love Lane. When Deacon walks in to sign up for her services, she is excited...until he tells her he just wants it to look like he is looking for someone. His aunt wants him to settle down, and he thinks the illusion of going on dates will be a great Christmas present. Macy agrees, but only if she gets to try to find him his actual soulmate. The only thing is that the more that she hangs around Deacon, she realizes she is attracted to him more than she is comfortable with. As the consummate professional, though, she refuses to date a client. Deacon is determined to make her see that they are meant for each other, though. Will he succeed?
This was a sweet story, and a fun read. I loved that it was set in Charleston and was full of Southern holiday flair. I would give this book 3.5 stars. I’d love to hear more about Macy’s business partners. Maybe there will be another book in the making?
I was asked by the author for an honest review.
Ever have a book that just blindsides you? Completely delights you? This was Christmas at Two Love Lane for me. I found myself laughing, eye rolling, cheering, getting a bit miffed. All great experiences when reading a wonderful gem of a book.
I loved all the characters and they certainly were characters. *I'm looking at you, George* Between Macy and her quirky friends: Greer, Ella and Miss Thing, and Deacon's crazy Aunt Fran and George. There were so many delightful underlying stories that interwove with Macy and Deacon's romance. From Fran's move from New York City, to Two Love Lane's matchmaking, to the mixing of business and pleasure, I followed along delighted at every turn.
Deacon and Macy are perfect for each other. I loved their honesty. Well, um, mostly honest. LOL Loved their banter and their easy relationship--and their denial of those same feelings. It was so fun seeing everyone rally around them. Their's is a sweet, with a hint of heat, romance.
I ended the book with big grin on my face, a delighted heart and an excitement for the upcoming holidays!
Christmas at Two Love Lane was just too cute, sweet, laidback with a southerness about it besides the quaint town of Charleston, SC. Charm. Manners. Respect. Elegant. Cute. This was a slow holiday read that allowed you to gain your ground and move along like on a Sunday-drive. Watching Deacon fall on the arrow of cupid was just too fun. He was insisting he just wanted a few dates to appease his aunt, but that insistence goes out the window with the more time he spends with Macy. He spent more time with her than he did with his actual dates. Then realization slowly starts to brighten his eyes.
Macy was a die-hard southern belle to her core. She was genuinely respectful of what she did for a living. She did not take to highly to it being treated like a common place dating service. Deacon and Macy were a delight to watch dance around each other and the bond they were forming.
Reading Christmas at Two Love Lane most certainly will not be for those that insist one fast-paced romance. This one took its time and grew. The bonds were formed and it was sweet, charming, southern. There are great characters to help you along your way.
Come on in and enjoy a slower-pace holiday romance.
Christmas at Two Love Lane follows the story of Macy (our legendary match maker) and the ultra sexy tech guy Deacon. These two are polar opposites in so many ways but sparks fly when these two meet!
Macy is a Southern Belle. She is in love with the concept of love and has this ultimate fairytale romance played out in her mind, which means that she has a hard time settling for anything else. She is also the town matchmaker (with a rough family history of being related to Cupid?!). She is one of the owners of the local matchmaking agency. I love her confidence, her strength and her desire to wait for the love of her life.
Deacon on the other hand seems to be running from love. To make his Aunt happy, he has agreed to go on a few staged dates (although his Aunt has no idea they are staged). He is happy being single and wants to keep it that way. He feels the strong attraction to Macy but is terrified of his feelings. We watch him struggle with his attraction throughout the novel.
Christmas at Two Love Lane is a fun, steamy novel that has a slow build but well worth it in the end. We watch our two main characters struggle to understand and deal with their attraction. Sometimes this lands them in the funniest of situations! You will find yourself laughing, shaking your head and wishing for more. I really hope there is a second installment as I would love to see what happens with this couple in the future (and all of our other amazing characters in this story).
Macy Frost might be a descendant of Cupid. But even if she's not, she's one heck of a matchmaker. And that skill is about to come in handy with Deacon, a newcomer who shows up unexpectedly.
The biggest component of this book that I found myself loving was how the story came to life. The descriptions were so vivid and I could easily see Macy and her cat, Oscar, walking to work. I could see her office, her home and it's piazza. I could see Fran, Deacon, George, etc. This author does a wonderful job with the imagery. I would read this author again for that piece alone.
In complete fairness, Macy was a little hard for me to like. She sort of rode the line between society girl and a little slice of wild child, and because of this, some of her sweetness came off a little too proper to me. One scene that comes to my mind is that she has only known Deacon a day or two and she's fantasizing about him making love to her. I was fine with that scene, but Macy isn't that old, and the wording just felt a little awkward. With that said, I felt like a lot of her actions and words did make sense for her character. It just wasn't a personal favorite of mine.
This story is told in two viewpoints, alternating between Macy and Deacon. I enjoyed Deacon's chapters a lot more. I think he was a bit more honest, his tone seemed more realistic to me. Deacon isn't interested in finding a soulmate. He needs Macy's help to find a few dates to appease the aunt who cared for him growing up. Nothing more. But Macy is convinced that she can find the person he's meant to be with. But what if that person is Macy?
The other nice aspect of this story is that you get a full-length book. Amazon has this listed as 346 pages, which is significantly longer than other holiday books I've come across. So I appreciated that the story wasn't rushed and I got to really savor the story.
I think this book is perfect for anyone who loves holiday romance but also for someone looking for a lighter, cheerful read. The story comes to life and you feel like you're in Charleston as you read along.
Christmas at Two Love Lane by Kieran Kramer is a sweet Christmas read, about a nephew who just wants to make his aunt happy, and a women, who owns a Matchmaking service, but doesn't know how to open herself up to love.
Macy Frost is a sweet southern girl, that had to grow up fast, when her family causes her to put a wall up around her heart, and not allow anyone in.
Deacon Banks was raised by is talk show host aunt, after his parents died, and would do anything to make her happy, even if that means going to a Matchmaking service to find him the perfect girl....until after christmas.
And then the games begin, that is until they both realize that the are playing with a lot more than just hurt feelings.
Christmas at Two Love Lane is a sweet, easy, southern romance that just makes you want to find this place, and move right in. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and get that warm fuzzy feeling that stays with you the whole day!
I give Christmas at Two Love Lane 4 stars.
An adorable and delightful story combining good story telling and a charming story line. Set amidst the enchanting town of Charleston, South Carolina, the engaging list of characters adds to this most delightful story. I just can't wait for the next book in the series to continue this adventure! Thank you for allowing me to read this title prior to publication---I enjoyed every word!
Decan isn't looking for someone to marry just looking for some arm candy for the short stay that he'll be in Charleston with his aunt. Macy is a match maker and less then thrilled when she finds out he's not looking for anything series when her ultimate goal for her business is for serious relationships. Even though she is less then thrilled shes up for the challenge. Little did they expect for have a connection even while she is setting him for up for dates.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I feel like I've read a book with a similar story line but this book had so much going for it with an good set of characters with interesting backgrounds. I loved that there was the dual point of view between Macy and Decan. I honestly loved watching how everything played out in the book. Its hard to explain what I loved about this book without spoiling it! So heres the thing if you are looking for a good holiday book with unique set of characters with a bit of drama thrown in. This really was a enjoyable book.
Christmas at Two Love Lane by Kieran Kramer
A man trying to please his aunt sets out to date a variety of women, with the help of a matchmaker, but has no desire to settle down any time soon. The hitch is that he finds the matchmaker intriguing and ends up spending more time with her than dating. Of course Deacon and Macy end up falling for one another but it seems to take forever.
This is my first book by this author and of the Christmas stories I have read this is not one of my favorites. I think it may be because I could not really relate to either Deacon or Macy and thought the story slow paced without much really happening. That said, I am sure there are some readers who will adore it and that is just as it should be.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
2-3 Stars
Two Love Lane is all about finding true love. With the help of Cupid and the owners, anything can happen. The Christmas theme adds a warm and fuzzy feeling to this novel.
Macy is the coowner of this successful enterprise where clients find true love and marriage. She believes that she is a descendant of Cupid and firmly believes in soulmates. For everyone else. Not for herself!
Deacon is a successful tech mogul who lives in New York. His aunt and surrogate mother has acquired a property in Charleston, where she intends to spend part of the year. He would do anything to make her happy and has agreed on a series of dates. She wants him to settle down.
As Deacon is not a Charleston native, he pays Macy a visit to find suitable companions for dating. Not long term. Casual with no strings attached. Being a hopeless romantic, she is hopeful that she can change his mind. Neither of them expected the impact that they have on each other. She has to stay professional and she believes in love. He doesn't believe in love. There's no point in getting any ideas. Besides, she can’t date clients. The problem is that he doesn't want to date anyone else. He wants her! For a fling during his stay. Will either of them budge and go with their feelings? They are a perfect match!
I admire Macy's selflessness. She is always happy to give, even if she doesn't receive anything in return and at the cost of her own happiness. Deacon's drive and determination cause him to make some costly decisions, but he is honest and admits when he is wrong. This is a lighthearted novel, filled with love, humour, friendship, goodwill as well as some sad moments. The characters are well developed and it's a smashing plot. Deacon's unexpected connection to Two Love Lane is the icing on the cake! I was completely invested in this beautiful romance from beginning to end. It's an ideal read to get into the mood for the festive season.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
