This story is set at Christmas time but is not overly Christmassy. The setting is the city of Charleston, South Carolina. We are introduced to Macy Frost, who with two friends, owns a successful matchmaking business. Macy finds herself being introduced to Deacon Banks, a New Yorker, who has moved his aunt (a famous TV hostess) to Charleston. Macy would consider taking him on if was looking for a mate, but the gentleman wants a few dates to satisfy a promise he made to his aunt but is not interested in marriage. Macy finds out the aunt is her new neighbor and she finds herself with feelings for Deacon. The action is lively and there's a lot of interaction between the two living spaces. Macy agrees to Deacon's request but wants a chance to match him up with someone. Deacon become involved as 'just friends' but somehow he finds himself more interested in Macy. With some help from Macy's friends Deacon comes up with a way to 'date' Macy. Macy is unwilling to commit to Deacon because he's going back to NY after Christmas and she love Charleston and her matchmaking business. There are a lot of Christmassy things going on and there's holiday charity work to keep them busy. I found my self enjoying the storyline and liked the cast of characters. This is a sweet romance and an easy read. At times the book is quite poignant and the story ends quite satisfactorily.
A very good sweet romance.
Really enjoyed reading.
Love the characters and story .
She had a successful career as a matchmaker, but he just wanted to have fun for a month as a Christmas gift for his aunt who thought he should settle down. He doesn't want to be attracted to her but he is. She certainly shouldn't be interested in one of her clients, but she is. He keeps chasing she keeps running, but eventually either he catches up or she just stops. Ini any case,a fun read..
Situated in a beloved South Carolina locale, this fun Christmas Romance is not to be missed. With quirky characters and an abundance of sensual dialogue Kieran Kramer has written a holiday romance for the keeper shelf.
This poignant, sexy and fun book is well written bringing the reader to both laughter and tears.
I love Christmas romance stories.
Christmas at Two Love Lane is Macy and Deacon’s story and I can say that I loved the two main characters. Macy and her friends run Two Love Lane which is the matchmaking business and they are enlisted to help Deacon find proper dates, so that he can make his aunt happy. There is only one problem for Deacon and that would be Macy, because she seems to be the one that he wants.
I loved the setting of this book and I thought the book was very well written and would recommend it to anybody who loves holiday romances.
ARC provided by publisher for honest review.
I loved this book! It even made me late for work one day, as I couldn't put it down. I loved the characters, they were well developed, very entertaining & witty! This is the perfect Christmas romance to renew one's faith that love is everywhere, one just needs to be open to it.
Christmas at Two Love Lane
by Kieran Kramer
I had a lot of difficulty getting into this one. It seemed to lack in warmth. It also has a few circuitous routes that felt like I was reading in circles at times. This is definitely not a book of greatness, however, you can enjoy the book even without the pace being enjoyable for the author makes it that way even with the downfalls. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna
This story is set in Charleston, South Carolina and I found the inclusion of bits of history interesting. There were some architectural and historical facts I'd never heard of and I ended up looking them up to get more information. I feel Kieran Kramer brought the setting to life.
The story centers on Deacon and Macy. The chemistry between them was done well and I liked how it was a source of conflict for the couple. Both Deacon and Macy have supportive friends and family which gave the story a feel-good, small town feel.
Some of the secondary characters, like Deacon's aunt had distinctive personalities and were a fun addition to the story.
Overall, I thought the story was well written and I enjoyed it.
Deacon's aunt wants him to serious consider meeting someone and finally settling down. But he's seen what settling down with the wrong person can do to a man and his bachelor lifestyle is still too fun and carefree for him to blindly risk it all on the elusive thing called love. Instead he compromises and sets out to serial date for a few weeks while his wild and brash aunt finds her footing in the very southern little town of Charleston, South Caroline.
Two Love Lane is the best matchmaking agency around and enlisting their expert services to find Deacon suitable dates, seems the perfect plan, except for the tiny problem that his matchmaker, Macy, instantly becomes the only woman Deacon wants on his arm.
Macy, descendant of the legendary Cupid, believes whole heartedly that true love and soul mates exist and is determined to show Deacon that real love is better then living your life aimlessly, waiting on the next rush. Instead she bets she can change his mind.
With the holiday spirit bringing out good cheer and merriment, Deacon and Macy find themselves pulled by a strong physical connection. But will either one be brave enough to voice out loud their own fears and insecurities for a chance to explore the emotions binding them so tightly together?
In the mist of well wishes, good friends and southern charm, Deacon and Macy each have to come to terms with their own actions and finally see the little Christmas miracle that will finally bring them together.
My thoughts
The writing style took a bit of getting use to. It felt like the author was going a mile a minute with Macy. She was like the Energizer Bunny. Non. Stop. Even her inner dialogue felt like it gave me whiplash. Once I finally got the hang of her perkiness, things found a certain rhythm. Deacon was a solid character, his relationship with his aunt was really great. They weren’t your average family unit but they were closer them most. I loved Frannie, Deacon’s aunt. She was such a sassy character, a bit blunt and loud but so lively and entertaining. She ended up stealing the lime light every time she made an appearance. I loved her and Freddie together. Their secondary love story was a bonus.
This one was definitely a slow burn. Deacon and Macy do a lot of dancing around each other. While Macy tries to keep things professional, Deacon is focused solely on showing Macy how good it could be between them, if only she lets him. It a tug-a-war for who will outlast the other. If you enjoy a story with a sweet friends to lovers vibe and a lot of back and forth can’t-seem-to-make-up-their-minds drama with a bit of Christmas cheer thrown in, this cutesy story will be right up your alley.
I loved this book. I couldn't stop reading it. The flow was wonderful and so were the characters. This author makes storytelling so enjoyable. Looking forward to the next. What a great way to start my Christmas reading
Ms. Kramer makes it easy to laugh right into love with this mismatched duo. She's a matchmaker. He's a heartbreaker. Neither are that big on being risk takers, but love has a way of making it's presence known. Christmas at Two Love Lane the gift that keeps on giving no matter the season.
This is a wonderful Southern Charm tale about Christmas, love, romance and real estate. This will be one that will keep readers warm all winter long.
This story starts out fun and there is so much potential with it being a match making service at Christmas time, but as you read on it gets pretty bland. It is hard to connect to these characters and it just kinds fades out. By chapter 6 I was forcing myself to turn the pages and keep reading by chapter 15 I was skipping paragraphs. It was just missing something to give it that WOW factor and really pull me in to the story as an active reader.
Christmas At Two Love Lane is a very laid back romance between one out of town-er who really has his sights on the woman he wants, but he’s not above using her matchmaking talents to appease his aunt or to keep Macy in his sights. She’s convinced that she’s great at helping others find love – but not so great for herself, so single she will stay. It’s going to take a lot of convincing on Deacon’s part to get Macy to let go of her beliefs and let Cupid do some work on her own heart.
If I’m frank, I believe there will be some readers who may find the pace of this romance a bit slow. I used the words “laid back romance” for a reason. Macy and Deacon definitely define that slow Southern romance build up.. partly because of Macy’s stubbornness and partly because Deacon isn’t about to rush her so much that he loses her. When you let yourself fall into the easy rhythm of this story, I believe you’ll discover a gem of a couple who in spite of themselves belong together. I had fun with this story, chuckled a bit, shook my head at the antics of both Macy and Deacon, and enjoyed the feel of a Southern Christmas setting. I’d recommend this one for any Romance reader who can enjoy a slower pace, likes unusual challenges for the couple and in the end simply loves a good story. You’ll find all of that and more in Christmas At Two Love Lane.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
In reading other reviews, it appears that I liked this book more than most. Maybe because I didn't get out of it that Charleston proper was represented as "small town". I thought it was more that the community in which they lived was small. Anyway, that didn't bother me. I really enjoyed the book. I listen to a lot of audio books and I just kept thinking that Christmas at Two Love Lane would make an incredible audio book with all the different accents and the mockery in it. Please, please, please!
I totally loved the character of Deacon. He was incredibly sweet, but also funny and sarcastic. He was willing to go through just about anything to end up with Macy, the woman he did not love--no how, no way! I also loved his interactions with his aunt and George, the guy who worked for her.
Macy was a little uptight in her role of matchmaker, but it made it that much richer when she did something out of character or when she was caught up in the schemes of her friends to get her on the dates they were supposed to be having with Deacon. She took her job very seriously, seriously enough that she was willing to match Deacon with others just to uphold her professional position. How the mighty do fall...and it was a fun fall to experience! I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I got this book through Netgalley and have given my honest impression.
First time reading this author. I am not really sure what I felt about this book. It was ok but not my normally genre. I like feel good stories and it is one, however I had a hard time getting into it.
This was a sweet Christmas read. How can you go wrong with a Southern matchmaker named Macy and a Northerner named Deacon who is determined to stay single. Their chemistry is great. I loved this sweet romance set in Charleston, SC. I always love a HEA and Kieran did not disappoint. I highly recommend this book.
the stereotype that the pace of life in the south is slower, seems to bear true in christmas at two love lane because while this story is enjoyable it moves as slow as molasses. from the moment deacon banks meets macy foster he's smitten. he's your standard commitment-phobe, and of course he can't admit his real feelings except to say he likes her a lot. but he's totally smitten.
he's also just convinced her to become his matchmaker for the season as a gift to his aunt. deciding that you would rather date your matchmaker rather than the prospective dates she's going to set you up on isn't quite the thing. early on he colludes with the ladies to make the dates lead to more time with macy, rather than less.
macy is the matchmaker who's never been in love. so at first she is just as confused by her reaction to deacon as he is by his to her. but when she realizes that the dates she's set him up on are ones she doesn't want to see succeed she feels horrible and unprofessional. she prides herself on the ability to connect people, but it's not too surprising that her judgment is cloudy when it comes to her connection to someone special.
the obstacles that keep them apart seem kind of silly, but i have to say that the way deacon lets macy know he's realized what he wants is for them to be together is pretty special. also very festive. and possibly traumatizing to children who still believe in santa claus.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This is a cute sweet clean romance, nice change from my more steamier reads. Very enjoyable read, love the characters. What's not to like when a northerner and a southerner find chemistry together.
