This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Nikolas and Lee.. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

Lion Therian Nikolas Spiros, owner of the most extraordinaire mane in existence, is facing a dilemma–should he apply an avocado hair mask or the olive oil one? Being the King of the Jungle is tough work! When a crazy ex –you should never trust a hyena– hacks into his magazine’s website, a Cyber Security Expert is hired to fix things. But weird, geeky, Lee Ryan is nothing like he expected. Blind to his greatness, she tests him at every turn. And that’s without mentioning his furry side’s obsession with her.
The prologue of this story grabbed me quickly so I was excited to dive into this story. It seemed liked it would be a quirky fun read. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into it. I didn’t care for Therian nor his brothers so I wasn’t able to finish. DNF.

Hellcat by Isabel Brann is a series starter, but I have not seen any sequels out yet. A mysterious breed of Therian, Lee has been hiding her whole life. Part of a prophecy told before the Roman Empire fell, she’s been constantly chased by an ancient cult who wants her blood. But now she’s done. No more running. They want to dance? She’ll tango with them. Of course, that was all before she met the most arrogant, over-confident, accidentally funny male in the world. And the worst part? He may be her mate. For Nik, protecting Lee from danger is the easy part. Convincing her she’s his? Well, that’s going to take some work. Good thing he’s irresistible.

Hellcat starts off with a mythological lesson in the start of Therians, or shifters, as it stands in the series. I liked the take on the origin story, but it made the opening a little slow for me. However, once the first chapter gpt rolling andthe main players were introduced I was highly entertained. I loved the combination of strong, goofy, and vulnerable that most of the main characters pull off. I laughing at the Spiros siblings, and enjoyed the banter they shared, and the banter that Lee had with just about everyone. The plot and action were well constructed and even when I thought I knew right where it was going, the path and/or destination surprised me. While I am not a fan of the fate forced mates thing, I think it was well done here, and there was enough delay and free will in play to keep things interesting. I really enjoyed the read, particularly the amount of humor, snark, and badass women. I will be watching for more from the author.

Hellcat is a fast, fun read. I had two disappointments here, that it took me so long to get around to reading it, and that when I went looking for more I could not find them.

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. I have discovered that I dislike books that involve convoluted explanations of gods. Sorry no offense but it is outputting to me. If I ignored that part, I actually liked the story and the characters. I enjoyed the strength of Aileen. Not for me, but I am sure there are fans of this type of paranormal.

We all know I’m a huge lover of quirky characters who give me lots of fast-paced snarky banter but there is such thing as too much of a good thing. Sadly, Hellcat crossed the line before the first chapter was done. I like my humor and snark to be enhancements to a good story, not completely overshadow it which is what happened here. I think you could have cut half the conversations and not hurt the actual story itself one bit. Now don’t get me wrong, there is lots to love here, but it’s buried under everything else.

What saved the story was Lee. In fact, I thought she was pretty damn kickass. She’d been dealt a crap hand but she had some aces in the hole to help her keep ahead of the crazy loons hell-bent on destroying her.

On the flipside, I just could not wrap my head around Nik. In fact, he got on my last nerve with his arrogance, obnoxiousness, and cluelessness. To make matters worse, there was not an alpha bone in his body let alone a beta one. He came off as one big old wuss. Now he was kind of funny in his utter ridiculousness, but in my opinion, he would have been far better suited as a side character. I found myself feeling sorry for Lee that she got saddled with such an asshat for a mate.

Hellcat is snarky, funny, with lots of action both of the sexy kind and the violent kind. I did enjoy parts of it, BUT, I also thought a less is more approach would have made it twice as good. I’m having a hard time deciding if I want to continue on with the series. I’m just going to have to wait to see what kind of hero the next book will have before I decide whether to keep reading.

I think I'm getting picky about my Alphas lately.

I really enjoyed the plot in this book and it was a solid read. I loved that the 3 girls had some serious kick ass beasts and that they were legendary in Greek Mythology. I also liked that while Lee was shy she could hold her own and was a force to be reckoned with.

I started this review with only 3 stars until I started writing and upped it to 3.5-4. Nik irked me a lot at first. I actually almost DNF'd because his conceit was over the top... Then the author changed my view of him. I realized that I was basing him off what I like in an Alpha , and not what his character was a male lion. That being said...I don't treat my hair that religiously and it was hard for me to see why a man would...Rant aside he was solid. He took time for Lee even when he didn't understand why she needed it. He had a alpha core and when Lee and his family were threatened he didn't mind getting dirty.

I am interested to see where this goes and enjoyed the secondary characters as well. good start to the series.

I received a copy of this via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was wacky, wild, and had me completely confused (in a good way). The world of the Therian shifters was definitely something different.

Nik, a pompous lion shifter who is obsessed with his hair, starts his day with an IT problem of the “my-ex-girlfriend-hacked-our-website” variety that seems innocuous enough. The IT solution – get in the best in the business to make sure it gets fixed quickly. The best in the business, however, ends up being Lee, a shifter who has oodles of secrets but an equal amount of mad skills. While they both have some immediately attraction, Lee is definitely a little gun-shy. Who wouldn’t be, after being betrayed by her last ex in a relatively catastrophic way? We’re talking prophecy-rific type of betrayal.

Nik obviously sees no need to slow things down, since he’s the most awesome thing ever. These two have a hard road to acceptance of a fated mate-type situation, but it was pretty entertaining to watch unfold. On top of all this, there’s some big bad who is hunting down Lee using a whole bunch of mythological beings. In between the sexual chemistry, there was action, mystery, and a nice set up for future installments. All in all, this was a really great into to the zany world of the Therians.

In the beginning, there was Zeus and he was horny…
This is a fun, engaging and totally awesome read and if you want to read a different take on how shape shifters came to be with some added mythical beasts then this is the book for you.
This book got me out of my book fun which is always a plus but at some point, the banter and the jokes were too much and took away what should have been spent on the plot of the story. The plot is good so don’t think it isn’t.
Throughout most of the book I was guessing what type of beast Lee could be, I even cheated and googled mythical beasts. I nearly got it but she is a kickarse heroine, being adopted by Hecate the Goddess of Witchery and living on Mount Olympus has its merits but Lee is fed up of hiding and wants to live life on her terms.
Lee is a hacker extraordinaire and a mercenary. She takes on one job and gets paid a load of money only to be hired the next day to undo what she’d done and to get paid for it as well.
Nik Spiros is arrogant, loves himself and his mane and shouldn’t have dated a hyena. But the again we all make mistakes. To his utter delight he meets Lee and can’t seem to forget her but he doesn’t quite get why Lee didn’t fall on her knees at his awesomeness. And he can’t let that sit on him.
Turns out that they are destined mates. Surprise. Her beast and the duality of what she is made it hard for her to accept a mate. But with testing him they were convinced that he was theirs.
Lionesses lead the Pride in this case it is Nik’s sister, Zoe who they cower in front of in a way it was hilarious but I was missing a certain alphaness from the Hero. Don’t get me wrong he is a great Hero but he was just lacking to be honest I can’t pinpoint it.
This is just me but why does a prophecy always need to be involved with a plot. I feel that it is done again and again.
Ms. Brann is a talented cookie and I can see this series becoming highly addicting especially with the well-developed secondary characters adding more depth to the book.
If anything, then the other reviews written with 4-5 stars are justifiable. For me it is that I am a picky, very picky reader. I recommend this book a hundred percent.

Highly entertaining story. Laughed out loud at Nik's antics.

8 stars! I love reading shifter romance books, and this is was fantastic. I enjoyed how the author told the story at the beginning that explained where the shifters came from. The battle of wits between Nik and Aileen was entertaining and well written. I loved the creatures that they all shifted in to, it was unexpected that is why it was so fun. Thank you NetGalley and Isabel Brann for allowing me to read this book and write a honest review.
