WOW! What a way to handle a romance that would normally raise eyebrows!
Forever With You hit me in all the right places. That is, this book really, REALLY draws close to home so I may be a little bit biased here.
Before I can review this book, I want to let you know that there WILL BE SPOILERS here. I feel that with the central plot, I won’t be able to review it without spoilers. So, ladies, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Emily Leighton meets hottie Brit Graham Prescott and it was love at first sight! So, what is a little white lie when meeting a hot guy? Probably nothing. Unless it is YOUR AGE!
So here my dear friends, is why I appreciated how Beverley Kendall handled this issue. She didn’t focus on this issue but more on the impact this white lie made to Graham’s life.
The story picks up four years later and goes into detail about what really happened between Emily and Graham’s relationship. Initially, I was a little sympathetic to Emily but I realized that she was a little bit selfish. After what she did, she expected Graham to forgive her just like that? Heck, Graham stopped school because of that incident.
Now back to Emily. It was a little infuriating that she kept throwing herself to Graham. I totally understand that she wanted to clear her conscience and close that chapter of her life but still – She was more I STILL LOVE YOU OMG PLEASE COME BACK TO ME!
That said, I liked the progression of their romance. I liked how Emily’s character development was done. Again, the handling of the situation that happened 4 years ago was perfect and it felt real.
What I hated was how Beverley Kendall resolved Emily's issue with her dad. I felt that it was totally a cop-out. Also, that incident about that threatening email to Emily? That came out of nowhere and I didn’t really understand the motive of that person. Again, this was a cop-out, like Beverley Kendall didn’t really want the dad to be the villain in this romance. Although, the dad HAD a real reason to do what he did four years ago. Seriously.
First love quickly becomes borderline obsession. Can their fragile love survive the carnage? Forever with You is not your average romance. Graham and Emily are as passionate as they are flawed. One act destroyed their romance and changed the course of the rest of their lives. How can you forgive the person that betrayed your trust, broke your heart and blew up your life? Is that even possible? There are two sides to every story and not every not is blue skies and sunshine. Sometimes love can be dark and heartbreaking. Ms. Kendall has a gift for turning the biggest tragedies into the most unbelievable stories.
When I first started reading new adult novels, I was constantly looking for new authors to try. I would happily purchase books Amazon recommended to me that sounded good. One of the novels that was recommended to me was Trapped by Beverley Kendall. After finishing it and loving it, I found her Unforgettable You series. I loved the college setting and the emotional relationships found in each book. I also loved how all of the books spotlighted friends from the previous books.
Forever With You is Emily's story. She's been around in past books as April's old modeling BFF. I didn't remember much about her, but I didn't need to. Her story was nicely laid out in this book. There was so much behind this young woman's beautiful appearance. She was smart and caring. Emily had no problem admitting her faults and trying to be a better person.
Emily's relationship with Graham was a second chance love story filled with forgiveness. Both were hurt by their past and decisions Emily made. I completely understood both of their feelings, and loved the way they resolved their past.
My only complaint about Forever With You is how long I had to wait for it to be released. Two years since the release of Always Been You felt so long! I had completely forgotten about the series. I understand that it takes a while to write and release a good book, so I'm not really complaining. I just hate waiting. ;)
If you're a new adult fan, you need to give Beverley Kendall's books a try. They're so much fun to read. You can start at the beginning of the series, or jump right in at Forever With You.
I was really excited to see how the events would unfold in this novel. We are left in a lot of suspense for Emily's story at the end of Always Been You and I was eager to uncover the secrets.
It's an interesting choice to reveal the past right at the start. It begins with a bang and watching the aftermath is intriguing. However, you lose some of the mystery and suspense as the story progresses. I found the middle of the novel to be a little stale since it was them simply rehashing their hurt feelings again and again.
I wanted more interaction and moments where it was reaffirmed to me that they belonged together--not just arguing pack and forth. Yes, they have fabulous physical chemistry together but I needed more "talking" time to prove to me that they were a good fit.
It's a cute second chance romance and it builds up perfectly for sequels with the introduction of new and interesting characters.
4.5 stars!
This book had all the elements I was looking for in a book, from its flawed characters to the almost impossible situation that was the result of those mistakes.
Graham Prescott's life was nearly destroyed because of one little lie that Emily Leighton told. It set off a chain of events that had Graham hightailing it back to England and out of Emily's life. Wracked with guilt, Emily was waiting for a chance to make things right and apologize. Her chance came about four years later.
The premise for this book is quite unique. I had some suspicion based on what happened in the last book but I wasn't 100% sure. I wasn't even sure if I was going to like it.
Fortunately, the author did a great job at telling the story as it is. She didn't shy away from the difficult story line and the implication it would have on the lives of the characters. There were moments in the book where I thought, "I don't think they're going to get past this." The situation they were in was quite bleak, and worse, it could've been avoided if only Emily hadn't told that lie.
The angst almost killed me. And the thing is, I hated what Emily did but I couldn't hate her. I wanted to but I couldn't. I did like that she also suffered the consequences especially when it came to her relationship with Graham. I couldn't fault Graham for how he acted in the book especially after it was revealed how much Emily's lie affected his life.
I was a little worried about the transition from hate to love because as I've said, the rift between them was humongous. I didn't know if the transition would feel organic at all. Once again, Beverley Kendall proved me wrong. The shift from hate to love was handled very well and the chemistry was fantastic. The story flowed well and the third act was anxiety-inducing but the ending more than made up for it even though it was tied up too neatly for my taste. Even then, the ending did my heart good.
I really, really enjoyed this book. I read this in one sitting and didn't regret it one bit. I highly recommend this book. You like angst? Characters that messed up? This book is for you!

Wit...pain...betrayal...tears (mainly mine) - what a ride!!
Beverley Kendall does make you wait for her books, but when they are this good - you hardly mind!
Graham Prescott is understandably upset when Emily Leighton reappears back in his life. She nearly destroyed his life with a lie four years ago and irrevocably altered his direction in life. All Emily wants to do is tell him she's sorry, but that's not really all as she has so many chances just to say those two words and it becomes evident she wants his forgiveness most of all.
For a big chunk of the story- you aren't really sure she's ever going to get it and again can't really blame him although he is cruel at times. Theirs is not a smooth second chance road - it's bumpy and sometimes mountainous - but in the end - you have to hope that true love will find a way. But boy is it tough getting there.

Genre: new adult, Romance
This was a fun read, did feel very NA in the way the characters acted.reacted at times but then Graham is 25, and Emily is 20, almost 21.
Here in UK they'd be classed and treated as adults, but I've noticed before that in US people seem to be regard as "young" well into their 20's. Graham is still finishing school/uni ( back to that US/UK language issue here ) and even though he had a couple of years out of education in UK you're done with Uni by 21, unless you're doing Masters or Doctorate.
Emily's family too have a lot of influence over her considering she';s been an adult for almost three years.
I liked the story though, Emily's little lie was something many kids do and get away with without the awful repercussions it had for her, and of course the horrific effect on poor Graham.
Its a tough Law that one, done for the best of reasons but in many ways very draconian. Its a little different here in UK, and I think even though we don't have it perfect it works better our way.
Still, that one tiny lie, one most teens have used for one thing or another led to such a huge issue it was amazing to see how it played out. em wants to apologise, Graham wants nothing to do with her. I understood well both points of view. I don't think I'd have had Em's strength in keep on pushing forward when he made it clear he wanted her as far away as possible...but of course we'd not have a story then ;-)
I loved the way it played out, there were some very real feeling events, people acting in ways that I felt they would have if the situation was as it seemed.
I really didn't like her dad, felt he was OTT, especially since her mum and her being involved in the world of modelling they must have been caught up in some pretty uncomfortable practices at times - its not a world known for friendliness and honesty.
I enjoyed reading this, a good story, some decent angst and emotion and I do so love that.
I liked too that Graham also had lasting effects, almost a PTSD situation from what happened, made him wonder if he;d done something wrong, behaved as he should or perhaps....and that felt so very real. I think any decent man in that situation will question their actions.
Stars: 4. A good story, very real feeling, lots of emotion.
