Thank you Netgalley for this the review copy.
I got this hoping to get some new and interesting ideas and was a little disappointed - most of the designs I had seen before. Not very imaginative. Some of the tips were OK but I doubt I'll go back to this book again.
This is a terrific book for beginner pumpkin carvers. I would have liked more complex patterns to be included in the book.
The extra website access was a nice touch.
This book was awesome! Lots of great ideas and wonderful photos! I think anyone who enjoys craving jack'o'lanterns will find this book useful.
This is a good beginner's book for carving pumpkins - ideal for anyone wanting to get a bit crafty with Halloween right around the corner. As someone who is not experienced with pumpkin carving or any kind of carving in fact, I found this book easy to follow and appreciated the information regarding what tools to use and what pumpkin to buy. It is definitely more geared towards folks like me - who need help with every aspect of pumpkin carving, and has some neat ideas I hadn't thought of such as embellishing and etching. It includes online access to some patterns which can be printed out and used which are extremely helpful.
I did think it was a very helpful read and contained some patterns that I might not be able to obtain elsewhere, but the length was rather unexpectedly short. I've got my pumpkin ready and I'll be carving it soon!
Not your usual step by step guide on how to carve a pumpkin. I learned little facts about Halloween including witches, bats and trick or treating origins. I learned how to preserve my pumpkin as long as possible and the different types of pumpkins out there are incredible and the information on not on only carving but decorating, accessorizing, drilling, lighting and many more ways of decorating your pumpkins. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this book and can’t wait to recommend it as well as getting to the store and picking out some pumpkins to decorate!
Get your pumpkins, get your book. Now's the time to hone up your craft with this excellent instructional companion piece. You will amaze yourself and your neighborhood . Good fun !

This gives you a lot of information about pumpkin carving. It goes over types of pumpkins, carving tools, and patterns. It has something for beginner carvers as well as a few harder ideas for you to try out. This is a good book to read to help you find out where to start when carving your pumpkin.
5/5 ⭐
Quite literally everything you've ever needed to know about how to expertly carve a pumpkin. I love pumpkins, they're my favorite thing about fall, because they're bright and big and you can carve them to look awesome. Also, you can toast the seeds in the oven and they're delicious.
Anyway: if you need some tips for pumpkin carving this fall, then I recommend this book.
A Wonderful fun book that will go out year after year. It is simple but comprehensive. It goes over various tools and techniques of pumpkin carving and decorating, it includes stencils, and even a short lesson on various types of pumpkins.
I am so excited to try out some of these tips and techniques for Halloween this year!! Is it time yet? There carvings are only limited to your imagination and unlike most carving, include misshapen pumpkins and gourds which I think, are my favorite out of all of them!! Lots of suggestions for tools, templates, paint, etc. This book is sure to spruce up any pumpkin.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Halloween is right around the corner and we are already gathering ideas for our pumpkin carving this season!
I saw this book on Netgalley and had to grab it. Its a great beginner's carving book that covers tools, techniques, and even has a few patterns. Some of the techniques covered are traditional carving, luminaries, embellishing, painting, and etching. The book briefly describes some of the different pumpkins and gourds that can be used for carving and decorating as well. There are some great ideas and photographs that we found inspiring and even educational with the fun facts added.
Overall, its a great book for beginners with some creative inspiration for anyone.

Great book on how to chose the pumpkin and the carving tools used as well as techniques.......
Just in time for pumpkin decorating this book gives great ideas. There are simple ideas and ideas great for a little more detail. I look forward to try out some new ideas and this book would be great for anyone.
This book was so useful. I learned everything I thought I already knew about pumpkin carving, and things I can't believe I didn't think of on my own. I'm excited to put my newly learned skills to the test this Halloween.
Great book. Full of great ideas and information. My children loved sitting with me as we looked through it. we will be going to buy this and trying out some of the amazing ideas this halloween
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I just adore Halloween, even though it is not that big here (it is growing, but it still mostly a party for adults). This year I want to try my hand at pumpkin carving. I thought it wouldn't be so hard, but I guess there is more to it then just to hollow it out and carve a pattern. :P
And I didn't even know you could also use those tiny pumpkins/gourds for carving. How fun! I thought everyone just used normal pumpkins (orange ones, and rarely white). So that was a fun revelation.
The carving tools... eh, I guess I will just have to find kitchen stuff as I wouldn't have a clue where I would get those tools they mentioned. I know them in other ways (bigger, meaner), but I am sure that those won't work for a pumpkin (though total obliteration would also be fun).
I think I would have to search the internet for that stuff the author uses to preserve the pumpkins.
I could ask the garden centre here, but I am not sure if they would have something like that.
Then there are tips on patterning, on carving, on emptying the pumpkin (it looks fun and messy). I liked the photographs the author used to give us some examples. I recognised quite a few of those photographs from reddit, twitter, or other sites.
I would love to try those multi-pumpkins. Lots of work, but oh so much fun.
As for embellishments/painting your pumpkin, I wasn't interested in that. I just wanted to carve, and put a tiny light in my pumpkin and put it on my balcony.
The patterns were fun, but quite useless on a tablet. I did like the fun facts that were posted along with the patterns. They gave a bit more insight in the patterns and the history behind the subject on the pattern.
Thankfully you can also just download the patterns, and then print them out. \o/
All in all, a short, but comprehensible and clear guide on pumpkin carving with lots of tips and tricks. I can't wait to try out pumpkin carving when it turns October.
Easy Pumpkin Carving is a good book for all ages ranging from beginner to intermediate In addition to the traditional carving technique, the book contains instructions on making pumpkin luminaries, etching, embellishing, as well as tips for grouping several pumpkins together. Little children can just embellish their pumpkins with no cutting involved, while children around the age of 10 can carve the traditional patterns and all older "kids" can edge more complicated patterns. Necessary tools, tips for transferring patterns, as well as all techniques are well explained and accompanied with pictures. I like the full size patterns and the link for online pattern download at the end of the book. For me the book is just the right size with its 48 pages and gives me enough inspiration for the pumpkin season this fall. I think I will raid my husband's toolbox and make luminaries this year.
