I really liked this author and this book did not disappoint, it was an appropriately paced, page turner that will have me hooked throughout the story.
Great storyline with good strong characters. Very well written. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I loved this book. The fact there was a little romance thrown in made it even more interesting. It has your typical twists and turns , suspense, lies … it will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Kelsey and her younger sister Lorelei/Lori were headed to Conway’s Tavern . Lori mentioned it was only two blocks from Kelsey’s store and her big loft apartment above the store. It was May and Kelsey had broke up with Brad before Christmas Kelsey told Lori she thought Brad had followed her a couple of times. Lori asked her is she was afraid of Brad , Kelsey said “ Brad is a thirty two year old spoiled kid with a bad temper under a smooth facade we’ve known for ages Lori.” Kelsey company was MG Interiors Lori and Kelsey’s mom had died eighteen months earlier. Their father Truman and their mom had been dancing to their favorite song when she went limp against Truman. At Conways when Lori was at the jukebox a man came up to Lori but she left to go back to the booth. Then Lori said she was seeing a married man -Cole. Kelsey decided it was time to leave as they were walking home the man from the jukebox came up to them and then he shot Lori then shot her again which Kelsey down but she still held on to her dying sister. After Kelsey was in the hospital a Detective Pike had come to talk to Kelsey and he said they had got the man who had shot Lori and he had a picture of Lori in his pocket but after he had shot Lori he was aiming to kill Kelsey but the bar owner Rick Conway had shot the killer- Nott and saved Kelsey’s life. Nott had been a regular at the bar and came in every Tuesday and Thursday and had two-three beers. But Monday Nott came in and quickly had five beers then switched to Burban and had three drinks which he had never done before and downed them quickly especially after Kelsey and Lori came into the bar. Nott was not a man who talked much to anyone. Kelsey went home to her father's and her close friend Eve who also worked with Kelsey went to her father's. Eve was estranged from her family as was just like a daughter to Truman. Eve looked to Truman as a father. Kelsey had been adopted by Truman and her mom Sophie and they made she she knew she was loved as much as Lori.Brad’s mother was after Truman to marry her. She had been married to Truman’s friend Milton. Lori hated Brad’s mother trying to push her way into their family and now she was dead.
I loved this book. It was an interesting great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked there was a little romance but more at the end. You did see the relationship grow it surprised me when it become romantic but a good surprise. I had no idea who the killer really was until it was revealed and I loved that. My heart broke for Kelsey and Truman and the people around them with each murder I felt like I was there and felt there pain. I felt that was realistic. I did love that Declan was there for Kelsey. I loved the action, suspense, intrigue, and everything else that went into this book. I loved the characters and Kelsey’s cat as he was definitely a character in his own right. I also loved the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.
Kelsey March is out with her supermodel sister Lorelei when Lorelei is shot and killed . Who would want her dead ? A chilling and gripping mystery with fabulous characters ! A great read ! Thanks to #Netgalley and #SevernHousePublishers for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review ! #JustABreathAway
Found this book quite hard to get in to because I felt the setting for this book was awkwardly handled at the beginning after the Prologue which was quite intriguing. Once the story started to take over the tale was far more enjoyable and took over. My first book by this author and the plot was clever with the protagonist not obvious and one or two false directions introduced to lead the reader in the wrong direction.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Carlene Thompson/Severn House for a digital copy of this novel. All opinions expressed are my own.
Could the person who killed Lorelei have really meant to kill Kelsey? This starts off with a dramatic opening but then the mystery of what really happened, as Kelsey tries to find the killer, sets in. There's a second plot line that I found confusing at first but Thompson, an experienced writer, does pull it all together. There are twists as you might expect. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
A gripping mystery that had me immersed from page one. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
I enjoyed this book but I’m not sure on the genre. It appeared to be a crime thriller and at the last minute had some romance thrown in. It would be a good beach book.
The basic premise is Kelsey March is out with her supermodel sister Lorelei when Lorelei is gunned down and murdered. Kelsey suffers this loss deeply but why was her sister killed and who was the perpetrator.
I enjoyed the description of Kelsey’s true Southern family and some of the characters but the book did not flow and some parts seemed to be just to fill the pages rather than add anythin* to the story.
Just A Breath Away is spellbinding tale that will capture your attention from the very first page, and hold it tightly until the last! The well crafted story line follows character Kelsey March on her journey to find her sister's killer, and just when she thinks she might know who and why, another character pops onto the trail and leaves her befuddled all over again. Who would want to kill this beautiful young woman, and what does it have to do with a young boy who walked away from accident?
The twists and turns will keep you will keep you teetering on the edge of your seat, and the revolving door of secondary character introductions will have you constantly second guessing yourself, it's one heck of a whodunit thriller! Highly recommend this one!!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from NetGalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed.
Such a haunting tale and a gripping mystery. The author is a true master of suspense, leaving you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Once a reader starts, you wont be able to stop until you hit the very last page. A well written mystery.
Kelsey March and her sister Lorelei are walking home from a bar when Lorelei is short and killed by an apparent stalker. Further investigation brings into question who was the target Lorelei or Kelsey. When people close to Kelsey start to die who is responsible and what is their motive?
There are a lot of characters in this book to keep straight, which also makes for a lot of suspects. I was looking in one direction when the real killer came from a totally different direction. I was torn what to rate this book. I enjoyed this book but not as much as her first two books Black For Remembrance and All Fall Down. I will continue to read this author for a good suspense read. Thank you to net galley for an advanced copy of this book.
Who Shot Kelseys sister?
Why?
from beginning to end you will be confused and asking questions. I thought the prologue was flipping interesting but then chapter 1 happened and I was like confused!
This wasn't a enjoyable read for me, I found it to be slow and I really just wanted the author to get the point, and let me the whys and how's! I found there to be a lot of characters, and that alone had me like could it be them or them...
I am new to this author, so I want sure what I was expecting.
Who shot Kelsey's sister? and Why ? Although this book kept me interested I found the book to be slow and it went on and on . Kinda wanted the author to get to the point of who killed Lori. Lots of characters so the book kept you guessing as to who and why . I have read all of Carlene Thompson's books and I think her older books are far superior to her newer books. Disappointed!
another great mystery by Carlene Thompson. This book grabbed me from the first page and I read it in one night. Just the way I like my books, with lots of twists and turns and a surprising ending.
I've always enjoyed her novels but this didn't read like one or feel like one.
Kelsey March’s world comes crashing down when her sister is murdered in front of her eyes. It would appear the person stalking her has taken the ultimate step to control her forever. But as Kelsey tries to piece together the events that led up to her sister’s death, she finds that not everything is as it seems. Thompson is a pro at creating a plot that she then twists and distorts so much that readers will find their heads spinning. Hidden motives and secrets are my favorite and Thompson delivers
