This edition of Poe's stories is stunning. Reading his tales alongside visuals definitely enhances the overall experience.
Thanks so much to Netgalley for providing an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this so much! I have limited experience with Poe but have always enjoyed what I have read. This is such a great way to reintroduce classics to those less inclined to try them and has spurred me on to getting Manga Classics copies of other books!
This was okay. I liked the first two stories the most and felt the house of usher was too long and was not clear in terms of narrative. The art was generally good and easy to follow.
Thank NetGalley for giving me a copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review.
Most of these stories I have read. Though rereading them with the image makes it creepier. Oh, let me tell you how good and scary they are! I did enjoy going through the manga, appreciating the content inside, and feeling haunted by it. That's how i felt most of the tome.
When it came to Tell-Tale Heart, the creepiest story of all, it was haunting. Gosh, how I enjoyed these images! If you haven't read Poe, it is a fantastic way to dive in. The manga does help with getting into the content you usually wouldn't or are intimidating with.
I’ve read some of the Poe stories and I loved how the fine artwork accompanied his proses. For the ones I hadn’t read, it was told and portrayed in such a way that I could easily understand everything that was going on. I wasn’t struggling to figure stuff out. Great job to the artist for the nice artwork and arrangement. Thank you Netgalley and Manga Classics Inc. for allowing me to read this fabulous work!
Very short and fast read. Great art work. I love the stories of Edgar Allan Poe. This was beautifully done. I highly recommend.

I teach Poe and this would be very helpful for students. One thing they struggle with is the language of classics. The manga does a great job of combining the original text with images to clarify.
The stories are the perfect choice. I really enjoyed this series.
I love the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe's dark, and sometimes demented, tales of death, madness, and murder are some of the best classic horror tales. I have Poe's works on my keeper shelf in various forms (classic version, illustrated, comic books, etc) and even have a motion graphic novel app on my phone. He is my go-to mood builder for my favorite holiday -- Halloween! I read through his works every fall.
So far, I am very impressed with the Manga Classics I have read. The books stick to the original story for the most part. The tale is just condensed a bit, and illustrated with manga style art. I'm picky about Poe adaptations, but was pleasantly surprised by this book's depictions of several favorites: The Tell Tale Heart, The cask of Amantillado, The Raven, Mask of the Red Death, and The Fall of the House of Usher. The dark themes of madness, murderous intent, and death were well depicted. The artwork is fantastic!
I'm ordering a copy of this book to add to the Poe section of my keeper shelf! Loved it!
**I voluntarily read a review copy of this book from Udon Entertainment via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**
I will not be reviewing this book because I did not finish it. I do not review books I do not finish because I don't think it's fair to review them.
Thank you for the galley.
I had a hard time getting through it. I was able to read one of the stories, but it didn't connect with me. The art is beautiful and I liked the layout.
I have always found Edgar Allan Poe and his works fascinating and intriguing. This graphic novel does a great job of bringing 5 of his most popular pieces of works to life. The beginning several pages were in absolutely brilliant gorgeous color, however, the rest of the pages were done in black and white. This was not a terrible thing and something that I know can be typical in graphic novels and Magna, however, I think the use of color would have brought things even more to life, especially in "The Masque of the Red Death", since color was a center point in parts of the tale.
My favorite tales were "The Tell-Tale Heart", " The Raven" and "The Fall of the House of Usher".
All in all the adaptation was done in an excellent manner and the art and graphics beautifully portrayed.
This collection of Edgar Allen Poe stories with manga illustrations is so much fun. The art adds to the creepiness of the original tales. Seeing how each artist views the story makes you want to see more stories illustrated.
Each artists's style was appropriately eerie, creepy, and spooky for their respective story. I have not read much Edgar Allen Poe, but the art seemed to show each story very well. The art from the two stories that I was familiar with, The Raven and The Telltale Heart, reminded me of how I felt reading those stories the first time. Overall, I think this is a good adaptation of Poe.
After finding the Manga Classics I decided to try this one because I love Edgar Allan Poe's works as well as manga. It was enjoyable to see a such dark stories turned into a manga. I would say that even though it is in manga form it does not take away any of the ambiance from the stories.
I read this book a couple years ago but it was cool to see it done with drawings! I think this is a fun easy way to read a classic.
Thank you, Netgalley and Udon Entertainment, for providing me with a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I have been wanting to read classics lately and i was searching netgalley and found these Manga Classics. So of course I have to start off with one of my favorite authors.
First off the art is different for each story but it matches each story so well. I figured these would be cut a lot shorter but, even though things were changed it still felt like you were getting the full story. I loved seeing these in manga format and will defiantly be buying a physical edition when it releases.
I am giving this four stars because i am not a fan of fall of the house of usher. i have never been able to get through it without skimming half of it.
I had a lot of fun reading The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe. There are five short stories included in this manga, and I loved the visual representation of each one. I think this would be a great addition to a classroom or a library for younger audience (even in high school as an aid) so they can familiarize themselves with rudimentary concepts of plot, conflict, characterization, and figurative language. I think this must be my favorite manga version of classic tales. Thank you NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for this eARC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Wow, just wow. I love Edgar Allan Poe, he’s one of my favorite authors, so I was very excited when I got this ARC. I was already familiar with the stories but I got to expeience them at a whole new level because of this gorgeous edition. The art in this manga is beyond beautiful, I fell in love. If you are a fan of manga, Edgar Allan Poe, or both, you need this book in your life, Seriously, just read it.
I have always enjoyed the works of Edgar Allan Poe and am glad that they have been illustrated so that they may continue to draw in future generations.
This lovingly illustrated collection of Edgar Allan Poe stories provides the perfect bridge to Poe’s classics for manga fans of all ages.
I enjoyed the faithful adaptation of Poe’s writing. Unlike several other manga and comic book reproduction of classics, this book contains the full text from the classic stories. From there, the skillfully done drawings really pull readers in and manage to infuse each tale with some of the terror that earlier readers must have felt.
The usage of emotions, shading, and crosshatching perfectly fit the mood of the stories and kept my attention even though I’ve read Poe’s work countless times in the past. Highly recommended!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.
ARC received from the publisher in exchange for honest review.
An excellent way to introduce new readers to the tales of a classic horror writer.
This collection adapts the main works of Poe faithfully with excellent storytelling and competent narrative skills. Although, the art in general was stunning, the shift in art styles between some of the stories was jarring for the reader which is what drops this from a 5 star book for me personally.
