Thank you NetGalley. Edgar Allan Poe's tales have been a staple of literature and this collection is a great way for readers to visualize the tales.
Manga versions of Edgar Allan Poe stories. I'm already a fan of this series. I think this is a great addition to a classroom or library, whether as assigned or supplementary reading or independent reading. A few of the images are a little on the scary side, but it should be okay for middle and up. I love a book that makes classics more accessible to a wider range of readers, and this falls smack into that category, so it's five stars for me. I also think it could be great as a read along with the originals.
Very neat Edgar Allan Poe graphic novel. It’s an awesome way to show the macabre king himself. I can’t wait to read more books by this author and illustrator.
“Manga Classics: The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe” is a collection (in a Manga adaptation) of some of his best-known stories: The Tell Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, The Masque of the Red Death and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Being able to see a classic work in a different way is intriguing and this edition is also a good opportunity for new readers, especially people who don’t like to read classics. The art is good but the best visual elements are the panelling and the composition which depict the grottesque atmosphere in a convincing way(still it could get even better).
As much as I am a huge fan of Edgar Allen Poe. I did not enjoy it as a manga. But I will state that Edgar Allen Poe was a master at what he did. My favorite from him was The Raven as it was the first thing I read from him when I was in school. But I still gave it 3 stars cause Edgar Allen Poe is still the best.
This is a manga collection of some of Edgar Allan Poe’s best short stories. They include: The Tell Tale Heart, The Cask of Amontillado, The Raven, The Mask of the Red Death, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
These stories are some of my favourite short stories. They are all descriptive and have lots of imagery that translates well to illustrations. I loved revisiting these classic stories and seeing them illustrated for the first time.
The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe (Manga Classics) is a great manga adaptation of his classic horror stories.
Thank you Udon Entertainment for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute version of the original, something easy to read when you don’t have time to sit down and read over the original. Definitely not as good as the original, but worth a read if you like to read anime/manga.
I should've rated this years ago, but I was new to NetGalley at the time and forgot. <_<
IT'S SO GOOD!
Since Manga is all the rage right now in Middle School, I thought I would give this version a shot. I LOVED it! It isn't as dark a color palette as the graphic novel, but it also doesn't have all the themes and guided notes as the graphic novel. The Tell-Tale Heart was super well illustrated. I liked the manga spin on all the characters and the plot.
If you're looking for a high interest, highly engaging Poe adaptation for your classroom - this is it!
All the spooky, horrific and spine chilling elements that we love about Poe are found within these pages!
Poe’s short stories but make them manga. What an original idea to make mangas out of classics! I started with Poe because that is the one I got aproved on Netgalley, but I am dying to read Hamlet.
I honestly thoroughly enjoyed these 5 stories ('The Tell-Tale Heart', 'The Cask of Amontillado', 'The Raven', 'The Mask of the Red Death' and 'The Fall of the House of Usher'). The illustrators translated well the creepiness and eeriness of the short stories, and the sense of unsettling. 'The Raven' was my favourite because it’s written in verse and I find it pleasing to read.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book! The title and this beautiful cover drew me in and i was excited to read this book! I will be recommending this book to others for readers advisory
This was an unusual combination of art styles, so to say, and it was fun to read and experience something like this. Well done

This I guess, was just not for me. I assumed that I would love a manga adaption of EAP, but I just wasn't captivated. The only story that crept under my skin, was The Raven. It touched me somewhat, but the others just felt flat.
The artwork was beautiful, but I must admit, that I am more into colored graphic novels and a different drawing style. Black and white however match the stories of EAP.
Using the Goodreads rating system, this was ok for me, and therefore it gets 2 stars.
This manga retelling depicts some of Poe’s most famous works. I really enjoyed the art style and the flow of the story.
So this one is comprised by a few of the best well known stories from Edgar Allan Poe, that was pretty nice actually, some are easier to remember than others and some of this were actually my favorites from him.
as for the Illustration on this one, it was masterful and it was so awesome to see them like this, The Raven was awesome, I did loved to see it in this style.
One other favorite was The death of Red Mask, it was awesome to see all the scenes of the ball so vividly, love it.
It's a beautiful compilation of stories with intrigue, death and sorrow.
Thank you to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I love Edgar Allen Poe. I love gothic lit and I love manga. So when the option to read a manga version of Poe stories became available to me I jumped at the opportunity. I mean, who doesn't want to see classic tales like The Raven or The Mask of Red Death drawn out in beautiful detail? Plus, it is sometimes hard to understand the words of people like Poe and Shakespeare if you are not deeply concentrating on what is being written since the English is not the same as it is now, and having the visual ques makes it that much easier to follow the storyline. Apparently there are other books in this realm of turning "classic" lit into manga and I am now very intrigued at reading more of them. I am probably biased at how much I enjoyed this because of how much I like the stories that were chosen for this anthology to begin with, but I don't care. There were fun tidbits of knowledge & behind the scenes information thrown in as well, so it was just overall a really enjoyable quick read. I definitely recommend it if this is a kind of thing you are already into and enjoy.

The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe by Stacy King from Manga Classics is a graphic novel adaptation of some of Edgar Allan Poe's most noteworthy stories/poems. It was published on October 17th, 2017. I rated it 4 stars on Goodreads.
I had a lot of fun reading the stories of Edgar Allan Poe in a graphic format. His writing can be kind of dense and this really pared that down while still retaining the charm of his writing. I felt that each of the stories was well illustrated and that it really suited the story that was being told. It was clear what was happening at any given point and characters were suitably well illustrated.
I still really love the stories and the way EAP writes. He's got a very dark style, which I love. I recognize that it wouldn't be for every one, but it warms my little English teacher heart.
I have an extra special spot in my heart for The Tell-Tale Heart. It was one of the first short stories that I ever taught to students, and I really love how dark and twisty it is. It was probably my favourite in the collection as well. Obviously you have to pare things back in a graphic novel/manga format but it still did a really good job of retaining the general feeling of the story.
It's a fun collection, and if you like EAP but also an easier read because it's a graphic novel, I highly recommend that you check it out.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for proving me an eCopy of this fantastic manga in exchange for an honest review.
I'm an avid fan of both manga and Edgar Allan Poe. Combining the two of them together makes for one thrilling literary journey.
The stories of Edgar Allan Poe manga contains one of E.A.Poe's poems (the Raven) and 4 of his short stories:
- the Tell-tale Heart
- the Cask of Amontillado
- the Masque of the Red Death
- the Fall of the House of Usher
I devoured this manga in less than an hour. It's an exceptionally easy read and I'm pleased that the original text has been retained.
As far as the artwork goes, the drawing style was different for each story. My personal favorite was the art style that was used for the Fall of the House of Usher.
The eerie atmosphere of E.A.P was perfectly captured in all of the stories.
I strongly recommend this for manga fans or anyone else who is open to exploring manga.
I love the raven poem from Edgar. This was a collection of 4 of his works, in the style of manga. This is my first manga book. Everything about this book was helpful and inviting to read. Nevermore shall I avoid these books.
I've always been a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe. So, I of course loved this! I think the adaption of classics such as this make them much more accessible for younger people, which is fantastic, in my humble opinion. The art style was beautiful and the stories never disappoint!
