My reviewer Beca whom has read all of the books in this series will be reviewing this on the blog but on her recommendation, I read this book too (I don't normally get a chance to read what I want, I'm feeling very decadent right now!) I found the second chance aspect of this story very compelling. As a mother of a child with a life-threatening food allergy, I could completely relate to the heroine's reaction to the big bad that goes down, especially when you know she's looking for reasons for her guy to screw up again. I enjoyed the character growth, the pacing and the female relationships. I will be recommending this book and the entire series to folks looking for a sexy category romance-esque second chance story. Well done. Full review from my blog contributor, Beca will be posted next week and will be shared on all social media platforms.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
After not caring for the last book in this series, I was hesitant to pick this one up but I'm so glad I did! Wow...this book is just amazing!!!
First I love how the author portrayed the realistic life of a musician and how easily they call fall into alcohol and drugs as part of crazy lifestyle. I thought her portrayal of what Ryan and Claire went through as a young couple trying to start a life together was incredibly accurate. The financial struggles and relationship stress was everything that I would have expected it to be.
My heart broke for Claire and how she struggled after leaving Ryan. Although she had a few close friends she was essentially alone, raising their daughter by herself with little support. She assumed he wanted nothing to do with her or their child again, but she couldn't have been more wrong.
I loved that the physical attraction was still there between them after all these years and that Ryan wanted something more. Usually this is all on the female, but for once an author portrayed a man who wanted a relationship and a female who was resistant.
Loved the slow burn of the developing relationship and the drama at the end.
Make Me Yours by Rebecca Brooks is a standalone, second chance romance novel.
Ryan Thomas is a misician and after he hit rock bottom, he works his way back up. He´s on tour for months and then he sees her again.
Claire Collins, gave up everything for Ryan and followed him and his dreams. But it devastated her to stand by and see how he destroyed himself. After a major fall out she left him.
And now, 6 years later, they meet again. What Ryan doesn´t know, there´s somebody else.
Both work really hard on a second chance, but they´re insecure and struggle.
Make Me Yours is a sweet second chance romance with lovable characters and is well written. I liked the characters, the words and the writing. I give 4 stars. Thank you, Rebecca Brooks.
Claire has always been the "good girl", except when she wasn't. She dropped out of college, followed her rock star boyfriend across the country, and got pregnant. When she tells Ryan she's pregnant, he goes out and gets drunk or more drunk than he already was. Tired with Ryan's drinking and lack of devotion, Claire packs and leaves. Everything she's done since then, has been for Maya. Until Ryan walks back into her life....
Ryan, not knowing where Claire went, is broken. He can't understand why she left, only that he can't remember. Ryan drinks to forget his past, drinks to forget Claire, then just drinks. When he finally stops drinking, he's also lost his career. Seeing that he needs to change, he checks into rehab. Playing with a new band in hopes of jump starting his career, he wonders into Gold Mountain and Claire.....
When the lights come up, he immediately sees Claire as she runs out of the bar. After he completes the set, he decides to stick around and search for Claire--now that he's found her. Imagine his surprise when he sees a photo of Maya. He had no idea Claire was pregnant with his child and that was the reason she left. He knows he's not "father" material, but wants to meet Maya before he returns to Chicago and his life as a rock star. But the longer he sticks around trying to show Claire he's a changed man, he's not so sure he can leave....
This is the fourth novel in the Gold Mountain series and may very well be my favorite. I don't generally read "rock star" romances because I don't like all the booze and drugs that always go along with the stories. BUT, alcoholism and it's devastating effects on others were dealt with grace. It was an emotional read, but not cry your heart out. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Once upon a time, Claire Collins fell fast and hard for bad boy Ryan Thomas. But Ryan was an up-and-coming musician whose alcoholism was making him spiral out of control. When Claire found out she was pregnant and Ryan was too drunk to even talk to her about it, she did what was best for her child and left him. It’s been more than five years since they last spoke, but when Ryan comes to Gold Mountain on his comeback tour to find not only Claire, but the daughter he didn’t know existed, everything changes. The chemistry between Ryan and Claire is as hot as ever. But even though Ryan is Claire’s weakness, she always puts her daughter first. And if Ryan wants a chance at winning the heart of the woman he loves and the daughter who immediately grabs his heart, he’s going to have to prove that he has changed.
There’s nothing I love more than a good second chance romance and Make Me Yours is exactly that. Rebecca Brooks has a talent for delivering wonderfully human characters which is what makes this story compelling.
Ryan is a recovering alcoholic who lost everything. He’s worked hard to remain sober and rebuild his career, and I respected the hell out of that. Ryan is a flawed hero, one who makes a number of mistakes. But he’s also incredibly loving and is working to be a better man. Claire’s life was turned upside down when she got swept up in Ryan’s world the first time. Since leaving him, the businesswoman and single mother has worked her butt off to build a life for herself and her daughter. She’s strong and protective and definitely wary of letting Ryan in her heart again. Upon seeing each other again, the two of them strike sparks. Their romance is both emotional and incredibly sexy (I’ll never look at rock climbing the same way again). I liked that Ms. Brooks didn’t make things easy on them; there are a couple of ups and downs and even when the characters messed up, I could understand why they made the mistakes they did – there’s no false drama in this book.
Make Me Yours is by turns sexy and sweet and I may have sniffled a time or two. I adored Claire and Ryan together and I loved catching up with Claire’s friends, the previous Men of Gold Mountain heroines. All in all, Make Me Yours is an engaging story with characters who grab your heart and don’t let go.
This is my first time reading from this author and the description at first glance called out to me because second-chance romance is my book jam! You have Claire who has made a new life for herself in a new town after leaving behind the love of her life five years prior. She sees A flyer for a band that will be playing at her friends bar and decided to give into her friends demands and 'have fun'. Surprise to Claire that the eyes that she looks into on stage is no other than her ex whom she left a drunken mess, Ryan! Ryan can't believe that he is now face to face with the one that got away due to his demons and has been haunted by her for 5 years. He is now on the mission to talk to her, to understand why she left and is totally caught off guard when he see's a picture of Claire's daughter!!??(Not a spoiler) HIS daughter! Ryan isn't sure he want's to be a father and Claire, she isn't sure she is over Ryan and now all the emotions are rushing back. The interaction started off timid and sweet, Claire isn't the burned man hating women you'd think she be after what she thought went down with her and Ryan all those years ago, and Ryan, is a changed man. The chemistry they had took me a little while to believe, but when it happened it HAPPENED! The passion was off the charts and the interaction with them as a family was sweet and awkward and I loved it.
I am fairly certain this is an author I will read again!
A second chance romance with a secret baby and a rock and roll star? Count me in! Claire and Ryan were going hot and heavy until things got really heavy and Claire winds up pregnant. Unfortunately Ryan's lifestyle is in no way conducive to fatherhood, so Claire leaves him without looking back. Fast forward five years and Ryan and Claire's paths intersect once again and Ryan wants a second chance. With so much more at stake, Claire is beyond skeptical, and that skepticism is quickly proven warranted. She gives Ryan yet another chance to show that he's ready to be a family with her and Maya and it was good to see them finally get their HEA. Overall, this was great second chance romance, because the characters were so well developed and real. This is the 4th book and a series and while it can be read as a standalone, it's even more enjoyable within the context of the series. I give Make Me Yours 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
Part of a series, Make Me Yours is also a stand alone effort and an excellent second chance story.
At 20, Claire met Ryan (a musician) and fell in love. Young love ran into issues and when the stakes were high, she made the choice to leave and make a life for herself and her daughter.
Fast forward 5 years and fate brings these two together again. Ms. Brooks did an excellent job of bringing these two together and letting them work out the past and the present.
I liked both Ryan and Claire and could appreciate where each was coming from. Maya was a little scene stealer, but made a few key moments in the book work.
The secondary cast isn’t huge, but they help nudge our characters to where they need to be! I was a late joiner to this series, but I didn’t feel like I missed anything as I was reading this book.
This is definitely a book worth reading!
the men of gold mountain series ends with make me yours, when single mom claire collins reconnects with ryan thomas, her former love and the father of her daughter maya. when claire left ryan he was in the throes of an addiction to alcohol that took him years to get a handle on. he had no memory of their final days together, no idea that she was carrying his baby, and that she had his baby girl.
back then leaving him was the right thing to do. but it doesn't mean that part of her regrets it. she knows she did the right thing for herself and for her daughter, maya. but seeing ryan again is screwing with her head. because it doesn't matter how much time has passed. he is still the one man that does it for her.
and when instead of chasing the music, he decides to stay put in gold mountain, it messes with her head even more. because she shouldn't let this man near her daughter, and yet, he's her father. and he isn't just saying he's better, he's going out of his way to prove it. but he's got a lot of baggage to make up for. and claire has every reason to be doubtful. and when it seems like he breaks every single one of his promises to her, she cuts him out completely. again.
but maybe this time it's not entirely fair? and maybe this time ryan will fight for her and for maya?
and maybe this time they'll end up with the happiness and the family they deserve? because i have to say that this is one of the best second-chance love stories i've read. the baggage these two characters have is deep and meaningful. claire has every reason to not trust ryan and he is honest about his failures. but he also works so hard to make things right. and not in an over the top grand gesture sort of way that rings false, he does it piece by piece, little by little and proves himself to be a better man than he was five years ago.
what a wonderful way to close out this series. i just loved it.
What a book – now this is it when it comes to second-chance romance i tell you.
The last book from the author didn't do it for me but this one made a fan. While reading I was either blushing or crying like a baby. It was breaking my heart to see how much effort Ryan put to change who he was, how much love he had for Carrie and above all how much he loved his daughter.
Ryan was hit hard when he found out that they had a child and that he couldn't remember that Claire had told him.
»He'd seen the photograph, but that didn't prepare him for the real thing. She was beautiful. He took it back – there was no way and part of her was him. There was nothing in him that could be so good.«
The more time he sent with Maya the more he fell for the little girl. »It was so weird, these fucking feelings. How one second he could be grateful and happy, leaning over to brush the dark hair form Maya's cheek so the ice cream didn't get in the strands. And the next second he could feel his heart breaking, that she was his girl. His daughter. And her life was better precisely because he wasn't in it.«
And when she called his ” Daddy" for the first time??? I was bawling.
This whole book made my heart dance and that hasn’t happed for a while now and I’m so happy that I got the chance to read it.

This is the fourth story in the Men of Gold Mountain series and it is my favorite! It is an emotional, roller coaster ride of a second chance romance! You will smile, laugh and cry! If I could rate this higher than 5 stars, I would.
Ryan and Claire have a complicated history. Years ago, Claire gave up her aspirations for college to follow Ryan to New York, supporting him working as a waitress while he pursued a career as a musician. Unfortunately, he spiraled downward into a life of alcohol. Claire leaves Ryan after a particularly hurtful episode (I don't want to give anything away here) and moved back to Washington, giving birth to her daughter Maya and began a career she could support she and Maya with. Ryan, in the meantime, goes through rehab and, 5 years later, has embarked on a comeback tour. His last stop is a small town in Washington where he just happens to find Claire in his audience.
This is a very emotional story for both characters. Claire is working so hard to make a perfect life for Maya and is always there to care for her friends as well, that she spends little time on herself. She's always working, trying to make ends meet, very focused on Maya. Seeing Ryan unexpectedly throws her for a loop. She's angry and hurt but also feels the same pull towards him that she felt over 5 years ago.
Ryan has plenty of baggage of his own. He wants to show Claire that he's not the same guy he was. And yet, he can't even remember how badly he (emotionally) hurt her. Then, when he discovers he has a daughter, old self doubts surface making him unsure of how he will fit into their lives.
There is a depth to both characters that will draw you in. You will feel the anguish both of them experience. There are a lot of bumps along the way for both Claire and Ryan, but a lot of bright points too! Can they make it work in the long run? Read this and find out!

Loved, loved, loved this book!! Why you wonder? Well, it's a fantastic second chance story which I am always a sucker for. It has a really cute kid in Maya. Most importantly the chemistry and love between Claire and Ryan jumps from the pages. They are flawed and imperfect yet perfect for each other. They met young and moved to NYC so Ryan would have a shot with his music. After a while the lifestyle became too much with Ryan spending more time with a bottle than with Claire. Now six years and a stint in rehab later they are reunited and Ryan is in for the shock of his life.
these characters were just so wonderful I didn't want their story to end. Their story is sad, hopeful, and incredibly real. I love this authors writing style and the easy flow of the story. I can't believe this is the first book of hers I've read. I will definitely be going back and reading the first books in this series! I highly recommend this one.
Omg do I love this series. Each book just gets better and better and always leaves you wanting more. Rebecca Brooks is one of my all time favourite authors and I always auto click her books as I can help myself I have to have her books lol. Go get all these book in the series is all I would say!!
It started out with a lot of promise, fascinating characters and grabbed my interest, but quickly devolved into lustful passages. There's always room in this type of book for sex, but to ignore the big picture item of an unknown child and quickly turn into an against the wall interlude turned my interest away.
Claire and Ryan have a rocky past. Claire gave up everything to be with Ryan while he was getting his music career together. Ryan developed a drinking problem and things went wrong from there. Years later they have a chance encounter and find out that things were not all of what they seemed all those years ago. I liked the chemistry between Claire and Ryan. Claire has really life issues that many single moms face along with Maya's food allergies. Ryan learns that he can't just step in and automatically become a dad. Sex scenes were well written. Overall this was a good read. I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
What’s it About? When Claire Collins was younger she fell in love with budding rock star Ryan Thomas, she was so in love that she dropped out of college and moved to New York to help him make it big. Instead of making it big, Ryan became an alcoholic, Claire got pregnant, and she walked away from him to raise their daughter alone. Years later, a chance gig at a small venue in Gold Mountain brings Ryan face to face with Claire again and this time he wants to show her that he’s changed and can be the man she needs.
Overall reaction to the story? Make Me Yours is easily the most emotional story out of the Men of Gold Mountain series with Ryan and Claire’s second chance romance. Rebecca Brooks took these two through the emotional wringer with their back story and their present angst filled reunion. Throw in their daughter Maya and you have the makings of a passionate but challenging romance. I really enjoyed it, actually I was surprised how much I enjoyed this story and I would definitely recommend it to readers looking for a solid second chance romance.
Describe the hero in five words: Kind. Talented. Charming. Fun. Considerate.
Did you like him? Yes.
Why? Ryan was the kind of character that you wanted to dislike just based on how he was in the past. However, I couldn’t do anything but love the guy because he really hit rock bottom before he started to drag himself up and recover from his alcohol addiction. I could appreciate a character that had the strength to pick themselves up and fight the temptation to fall off the wagon. He was charming in a boyish sort of way and he really wanted to be a better person for Claire and for Maya, I think that’s what sealed it for me. He tried his best and even with the mistakes he made it was clear he was a different man than he was in the past.
Describe the heroine in five words: Determined. Stubborn. Caring. Intelligent. Strong.
Did you like her? Yes.
Why? Claire really tugged at my heartstrings, she gave up her dreams for a man she thought would be worth it and ended up having to make the difficult decision to walk away when she found out she was pregnant. I admired her for being honest with herself that Ryan wasn’t going to be a good father or a good partner for her even as it broke her heart. I loved that she put her daughter first but never became a boring cliché of a woman who forgot about her own needs because she was a mom. I loved her drive to succeed and provide for her family but at the same time she also made time for her friends and to just be an adult. I really wanted her to find a happy ending because she was just one of those characters who deserved it.
Let’s talk about the romance: Ryan and Claire had such a bad history together that it set the tone for the romance. It was an uphill battle for both of them because they were both having to deal with their past relationship all while struggling to find their footing in the present and deal with the fact that they’d never gotten over each other. The heat between them was undeniable and I liked that they didn’t just deal with their emotions, but also their physical chemistry. The blend of both made Make Me Yours feel like real romance rather than just a hookup between two characters.
How about that supporting cast? Ryan and Claire’s daughter Maya added a lot of motivation for both Ryan and Claire to try harder at, well, everything. Adding the much needed kick in the butt with their blunt truths were Claire’s friends Mack, Sam, and Abbi. I loved checking in with these ladies again, though I’ve never read Sam’s story. They added that extra love that Claire needed before Ryan reappeared in her life.
Click It or Skip It? Click It. It's worth seeing Ryan work hard to become the man he needs to be and to watch him and Claire fall back in love.

Claire Collins has finally made a life for herself. She had left college and moved to New York with her aspiring rock-star boyfriend, Ryan. But chasing the dream, finding some success, and wild partying took its toll. Claire was left alone a lot and Ryan became an alcoholic. When he was around, she was cleaning up his messes and finally she left – for good. Now that she’s got a business, and a home in a town she loves, she is finally content. But she still misses Ryan and lives with a constant reminder of him in their daughter. When he shows up for a concert in her town unexpectedly, she is blind-sided. And when he wants to meet his daughter, she wrestles with how to handle the situation. But Claire has another problem – Ryan has cleaned up and their electric attraction has only gotten stronger. But leopards can’t change their spots, can they? While the idea of a life with Ryan is everything she’s ever dreamed, she isn’t sure he can be trusted – with her heart or their daughter’s heart.
Ryan Thomas screwed up his entire life. On the road to fame, he lost it all – including Claire. When he sees her in a crowd, he knows he has to make contact. He needs her to know he’s changed. He had no idea about their daughter and is completely floored at the idea of being a father, but he is determined to prove to Claire that he is worth the risk. But Ryan isn’t sure he’s ready to leave the rock-star life behind and a near-fatal mistake could cost him everything – again. He has to express his emotions to Claire, but he’s always failed at that so he turns to the only way he knows how to say the words he feels.
I absolutely loved this book! It was both realistic and raw. Ok – maybe the whole dating a rock star thing is not quite what people deal with on a daily basis – but the characters were deep and engaging. Claire is everything I would imagine a single-mom to be – struggling to maintain some semblance of balance in her everyday routine, pay the bills, keep up her business certifications, be a good mom to her daughter, be a good friend … you know. Life. I’ve dealt with some of that struggle and I felt like her reactions, while sometimes over the top, were relatively in line with a woman in her position. And Ryan? I absolutely loved him! He hits bottom and claws his way back up. He struggles to make amends with past wrongs, and is in uncharted territory with suddenly becoming a father. But I adored that, through it all, even after hurting one another and living apart for years, their love remained. I also really appreciated how, in the end, everything is stripped down to the basics and all that remains is love and how it is communicated.
This is book 4 in a series and I am definitely interested in the first 3 books now. All couples from the first books were mentioned within this book, but this book reads wonderfully as a standalone. Ms. Brooks creates characters that you can’t help but love and want to see flourish. She magically crafts a world in which the good and bad balance out and love prevails. And don’t think for a second that this story isn’t super sexy – the sinfully delicious interludes between Claire and Ryan are beyond hot with an undeniable sexual chemistry. The added bonus of depth of character within such a short space of pages is a masterful talent, executed perfectly by Ms. Brooks. If you are looking for a quick read, with tortured lead characters who have to battle back for their happy ever after, coated in some seriously hot sex, look no further. You have found it.

Stopped reading this book at 30%. It was just so boring!! I don't even know where to start reviewing this one. I was not drawn in by the characters at all - total opposite - felt like pulling my hair out. This book frustrated me so much, I just could not finish
