The Charmer is one of the best Romantic Comedy I have Read. I Laughed so loud while reading it. It was thoroughly Entertaining read. Avery Flynn has done best with this book.
I Highly Recommend all the Readers to Grab this book right now. It will make you happy and leave smile on your face.
Not for me. I was bored reading this. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from netgalley. Yes I am trying to get to the 100 character minimum in order to post and move on.
This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
This was a fun little read/listen! It was hot and steamy with some laugh out loud moments.
Since I listened to the audio for some of it, I'll just say that the narrator did an excellent job :)
The Charmer was totally Avery Flynn. A real RomCom that combined humor, angst, love and lots and lots of Honeypot Ants. Hudson and Felicia were the ultimate definition of “opposites attract” and they were hilarious while realizing it. Hudson was such a multifaceted man who knew his true self but was always afraid to show it. Felicia, in her own way, knew what she wanted and always went after it. It took a lot for both of them to realize what they had in each other and what they could lose.
Hudson was your ultimate flirt, womanizer and all-around good guy. Never helping himself out but always helping others. Try as he might, he never felt that he lived up to the Carlyle name, hiding himself from everyone while being in plain sight. So, if Felicia really wants Tyler, he will help her get him. And, if it benefits his libido, so be it.
Felicia has been in “love” with Tyler since she was a teenager. Being her brothers best friend doesn’t help matters at all … her being shy and uncomfortable around people really doesn’t help. She can’t figure out why a man like Hudson would want to help her in her quest to win him. She has no idea how helping her win Tyler will help Hudson with his mission.
As the two become closer, as they become friends and Hudson teaches her the ways she can get Tyler, Felicia starts second-guessing her choices. She has an analytical mind and turning over every hypothesis is leading her to one conclusion … it’s not Tyler she wants. But, she has to go on with charade, if she doesn’t, Hudson won’t come around anymore and she desperately wants him around and in her bed. She has to find a way to get him to see his true self and her as a woman.
Avery Flynn always does a wonderful job of amusing me, making me smile and charming the panties off of me. Her style of writing is fun and flirty. The characters she builds are always strong and independent but vulnerable. I truly love the way she writes a love story and injects just the right amount of humor and drama to make the story totally enjoyable.Oh, by the way Hudson … Black with Purple Hearts.
cute, loved her pyscho cat that hated everyone.
Her passion with ants was funny and adorable at the same time.
I really enjoy this author so I was excited to get to read this book. However, it struggled to hold my attention from the start. I just never really connected with the characters and that made me kind of start to skim. I love the blurb, but the book itself just wasn't for me. I love this author and will absolutely read her work again.
Felicia Hartigan has a crush on her brother's childhood best friend, Tyler Jacobson. The same guy who used to be best friends with Hudson Carlyle's big brother, Sawyer. At a charity event for the Harbor City Museum of Natural History, Hudson notices Felicia and can't stop watching her. Though she's not the typical woman he goes for, there's something about her he can't deny. So with a helpful suggestion from his mother, he approaches Felicia with a proposition. He will help her get the attention of Tyler if she helps him rekindle the bromance between Tyler and Sawyer.
After a little cajoling and some time to think about it, Felicia agrees. But Hudson has ulterior motives. He actually wants Felicia to fall for him. He tells her that his plan is the more time she spends with him, which is ultimately around Tyler, the more he will want her. He will see that someone else is into her and be attracted to her as well. The problem is Tyler views her as a little sister, and Hudson really just wants to spend as much time with her himself. And thinks the more Felicia gets to know him, the more she will care for him instead.
Felicia, can't understand her attraction to Hudson as she's always wanted Tyler. Tyler is also on her list of things to accomplish before reaching 30, which is closely approaching.
Hudson let's Felicia into his life more than anyone, even his family. He exposes his secret life to her and she encourages him to be himself.
I really liked this one. I thought it was sweet. I liked Felicia and I liked Hudson's response to her. it wasn't just about her physically, but about the woman as a whole. Sweet story. Looking forward to Tylers story.
Such a cute read. A modern day version of "My Fair Lady" added with a lot of chemistry and laughter.
Hudson Carlyle, billionaire playboy has finally met the one woman in Harbor City who hasn't succumbed to his notorious charm. Felicia Hartigan, ant researcher, is more concerned about her ants, her research, and being published than she is about fashion. There's only one man on her radar, Tyler, yet he doesn't even acknowledge her as anything other than a kid sister.
After observing her one night at a Museum fundraiser, Hudson steps in. He tells himself that he's doing so to help repair the relationship between his brother and Tyler, who were best friends for years; but Hudson has other motives. Hudson is a famous painter under a pseudonym. Not even his family knows what he does. But after meeting and speaking with Felicia, he knows he has to paint her.
When Hudson offers to make Tyler see her in a different way, Felicia agrees. What they don't count on is the incredible, explosive chemistry between them to turn into so much more.
A must read.
Hudson is a smooth talking man. cute how he try’s to get Felicia to do things. I love the way he calls her matches and they tease each other. Thank you for letting me read this book thru NetGalley
I am new to this author and like her work
If you are looking for a laugh out-loud, romantic read, this is the one. Hudson is a charmer, and used to getting what h wants. Felicia seems to be immune to his charms and it just makes him up his game.
I loved this book and can't wait for the rest of the series!
I loved Hudson's book from page one! This book was a fun read as I watched Hudson and Felicia fall in love with each other and work through their issues. I enjoyed their banter and I was truly charmed myself by Hudson. The plot progressed well and I was hooked from the start. I enjoyed this book from the beginning and would recommend it to others.
Explosive chemistry, sexy as sin characters, hilarious, wry banter, and more "real" moments between characters then I've seen from other authors. Hudson and Felicia's story was the perfect compliment to Sawyer and Clover's...and second in a can't resist series. This couple's story does not disappoint in delivering burning up the pages and intense in and out of the bedroom action.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
The Charmer is the second romantic comedy in the Harbor City series written by author Avery Flynn. Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the advance copy.
This is my first time reading Avery Flynn, and I have to apologize for this review being way late. This is one of the books that fell through the cracks when I was moving across country, so I've pulled it from my blogger shame list with one of my new year's goals to get caught up.
I haven't read the first book in the series yet, and I didn't feel like I was lost or missing information. So if you are reading these out of order, you should be fine.
Hudson Carlyle is our wealthy and artistic hero, and younger brother to Sawyer (hero in The Negotiator). Hudson is a fun-loving and smooth-talking flirt, who hasn't met a woman whom he can't charm. Well, that was the case until he met our confidently nerdy heroine, Felicia Hartigan. When Felicia doesn't fall for his alluring wit, Hudson devises a scheme disguised as an experiment to make Felicia redirect her interest his way. I really liked Hudson. He was a lot of fun and a little dirty, and definitely got things steamy when it counted.
Felicia was an utterly unique heroine. She is an ant researcher! Yes, ANTS. Specifically, the Honeypot Ant. Assuming all the ant facts are true, I learned way more about ants in this book that I ever expected to learn from a romance. While Felicia is a self-professed nerdy girl... she totally owns her intelligence and awkwardness. She wasn't really trying to change for anyone and she seemed comfortable in her skin. She was shy and did have trouble approaching her crush, but she didn't have any problem sassing our hero. It was great.
The romance between Hudson and Felicia was full of hi-jinx and fun. Hudson's flirty banter kept the story moving and Felicia's awkwardness provided some comic relief. For such a funny story, I was somewhat surprised by the level of steam we got... as these two were explosive once clothes started coming off.
This was such a cute, secret-crush, friends to lovers story. A modern-day My Fair Lady trope. The opposite attracts aspect is also a favorite of mine. I love it when two hot, smart people can't see the truth that's right in front of them. Loves makes happy fools of us all!
He really is a charmer! He can get away with anything, even breaking down the walls of a tough cookie like Felicia. She is smart in books but she also has a lot that she needs to learn from him. And boy does he teach her!! With that dirty mouth, scorching hot touch and easy happy attitude Hudson makes things very interesting. You will be super entertained and wondering what comes next with each chapter. I really like how he notices the simple girl. The one that prefers to be in hiding because that is all she has known but secretly wishes to feel special. He picked the right woman seeing her true value without her making any effort. But still, she blooms with his attention. And because Felicia is nothing but true to herself and her odd likes, she helps him be true to himself and everyone else.
Have you ever read a book where you wanted to strangle, shake and slap both of the main characters while simultaneously adoring them? The charmer was one of those books for me.
Hudson and Felicia had so much chemistry and were absolutely perfect for eachother. Felicia saw right through the charming facade that Hudson hid behind when dealing with the rest of the world, even his own family. As a man who was accustomed to charming the panties off of any women he wanted to, Hudson didn't quite know what to do with a woman who busted his chops like Felicia did. I absolutely adored Hudson's nickname for Felicia. It conveyed both how he felt about her at the same time as it fit her firecracker personality.
All of this sounds great right, well now let me get to why I wanted to beat them at various points of the book. Both Felicia and Hudson got so caught up in their original plan to make Tyler notice Felicia that they ignored what was right in front of them. As a reader it was so frustrating to see them get close only for one or the other of them to either deliberately or inadvertently push the other away due to something they said. All of the talk of lessons when their connection had so obviously moved beyond the initial plan or even a casual connection. They both had moments of saying such hurtful things to the other that I literally wanted to reach into the book and throttle them both.
The payoff in the end was worth it. Felicia realized that the man she had been chasing was more childhood fantasy than reality and the way Hudson demonstrated how important Felicia was absolutely lovely. It was a perfect demonstration from the real Hudson Carlyle.
As a side note, I can't wait to read Everly and Tyler's book. The battle of wills I see coming from those two is going to be epic!
I really loved the story from the start. Couldn't put it down held your attention from beginning to end. I will be reading for more books by this author.
LOVED this book! These stories are SO good. I love this city Avery created in another series and brought us to again. Hudson had my heart from the beginning, while I wanted to bat the ant woman over the head. She came to her senses and it was perfect! Can't wait for the next one, because yeah, that couple's going to be fun!
