For such an intelligent woman, Felicity is kind of a dope! Who has sex with a guy to get “lessons” in how to catch another guy...supposedly her life long crush!? This is the problem I had with this story. I was excited that the nerdy character was our heroine...my favorite nerdy stories have been exclusively the hot and nerdy hero. And while most nerdy characters, male and female, are clueless in some way, I just couldn’t warm up to Felicity.
And while this may be a double standard...because Hudson is teaching these “lessons”, I liked him!! But he also was not professing love for one but getting busy with another. I expected him to do everything he could to get Felicity in the sack, to prove that she didn’t really want the other guy, Tyler...and Hudson didn’t disappoint. His secret really didn’t need to be kept for quite so long. And this playboy facade, that no one seems to see through, wears thin (in most books that use this plot twist, not just this book).
Together, though, I did enjoy them. I liked their snarky repartee, I like how they do actually bring out the best in each other, and don’t let the other get away with hiding themselves. And of the two books so far in the Harbor City series, this one is my favorite and most memorable, warts and all.
So while a 3.5 may seem like a low rating, it’s not. Because even with the flaws, for me, it was still a great book.

Outrageously sexy, fun, sweet, emotional and quirky romantic journey that includes one sexy billionaire hiding a secret life and a sweet, spunky, nerdy ant researcher.
Hudson Carlyle the charmer of his family has been living a double life for sometime now and is in danger of outing his secret all due to one sweetly sexy, spunky ant researcher he can't stop thinking about in inappropriate ways. Felicia Hartigan is sweet, spunky and so clueless when it comes to men it is adorable. The My Fair Lady references are great (one of my all time favorites) their banter and they way their relationship builds is brilliant. Could not get enough of her brothers and sisters either... loved them and hope to read more about them soon.
I loved this sexy romantic comedy, book 2 in the Harbor City series, from Avery Flynn. Hudson Carlyle, sexy, rich womaniser with no intention of settling down anytime soon, is instantly drawn to nerdy ant researcher Felicia Hartigan when he sees her at a museum fundraiser. She's everything he's never wanted in a woman, droll and plain. It turns out though that there's so much more under Felicia’s nerdy exterior, something that Hudson sees straight away. Felicia knows exactly what kind of man Hudson is and she's not afraid of putting him in his place. This only makes her more attractive to Hudson. They're both hiding the truth from those they love. Hudson however is a willing accomplice in helping Felicia win the heart of the one she's loved since she was 15 years old. Felicia too, agrees to help Hudson as an accomplice in his greatest secret. When they agree to help each other they both get more than they bargained for, namely super hot page sizzling chemistry. Unfortunately neither one can see what is right in front of them. Both too stubborn to see the writing in the wall. A fun, enjoyable, easy read that can be read as a standalone, I must say though I’m going to be reading book 1 in the series (The Negotiator). I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book - it was my first by Avery Flynn, so I had absolutely no expectations going into this one. Now, the whole ant researcher part threw me off in the blurb, but Felicia was so cute and quirky with her honeypot ant fetish. And Hudson was the whole package, albeit a fake one for a lot of the book.
Felicia has been in love with her former neighbor since she was 15 and it's on her 'to-do by 30' list to date Tyler. Only he doesn't seem to notice her for the beautiful woman she is, only the 'you're like a sister to me' woman. Hudson is a business tycoon who has a secret life as a famous painter. He spots Felicia at a museum benefit for her ants and wants her right away, only Felicia is really tied up on Tyler. Hudson's brother are best friends who have been estranged for the last few years. Hudson agrees to help her get Tyler's attention, while also bringing his brother Sawyer and Tyler back together and in exchange for helping Felicia, he also gets to paint her. Yeah, it's all kind of confusing trying to keep it straight at first and it seems pretty convoluted. But don't let that stop you from reading - it really is a great story once you figure out how everyone fits together.
Hudson is super sexy, but also has that adorable artist side that he keeps hidden. He 'helps' Felicia in some very sexy ways (if you consider having sex helping her get the attention of another man, then it makes perfect sense lol). I don't know how that made any logical sense, but maybe it was just how they justified their increasingly physical relationship. Felecia was a bit of a surprise. She seemed really shy and reserved, but once you got her behind closed doors with Hudson, she let her hair down and became a seductress. I totally didn't see that coming and it's still a bit hard to believe, but maybe he just brought out that side of her.
While Hudson is 'helping' Felicia gain Tyler's attention, they're both falling for the other. Only they realize this almost too late and of course they say some terrible things to the other and part ways. They get their HEA and it's really sweet and cute how they just somehow make it work despite being two people who you would never place together.
My biggest problem was the false act that Hudson put on the entire book. I get why he did it, but the 'charmer' act was a bit too fake and the focus of way too much of the book for my liking.
This was a cute book with some humor, some quirks that made them seem normal, lots of sexiness and of course a great lesson on being true to yourself and to others. I'll probably go back and read the first book now and look forward to the next, which I assume will be Tyler's book.
I adore Avery Flynn's Charmer; it’s a feel-good, entertaining and very sexy romance with all the feels. Hudson is gobsmacked when he meets Felicia. She’s an academic and not the type of woman he usually dates and vice versa, but Hudson is absolutely smitten. He sets out to help her with flirting lessons to attract another man, but he soon realizes he wants to be the object of her interest. They’re unable to keep their hands off each other, but both struggle with the idea that two seemingly opposites could have a relationship. Hudson is utterly charming but also reveals a deeper, more thoughtful personality, and he will be on many book boyfriend lists this year. Charmer is another must-read from uber talented Avery Flynn.

This is the second book in this series by this author. This is a sexy romantic comedy story. This book can be read as a stand alone read or as part of the series. The characters were perfect, the playboy millionaire meets the adorable scientist. This is such a fun read, I just couldn't put this book down till I'd finished it. I can't wait for more from this author.
Highly recommended

This is amusing and entertaining. Hudson is a cocky charmer who it's a great idea to "help" Felicia get the man she wants, Tyler. His method, teaching her how to seduce Tyler, ends up seducing him. Felicia is a nerd in a dress, until Hudson takes her dress off. Then she turns into a fast learner who turns the tables on him. She doesn't much like Hudson, she's just in lust with him. When she sees him as Hughston, she's intrigued, and falls for him. But Tyler is the man on her list, and it's Tyler she wants. I loved the storyline, it's romantic and sexy and funny. The characters are all charming and likable.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
The dedication of this book had me from the start. The author’s MIL doesn’t know she writes romance and mine doesn’t know I’ve been reading them for years! She’d be appalled but I don’t care!
I was in from the first paragraph! The author has a way with the words that put me right there in the same room with the characters and I felt like I never left until the end – and of course I didn’t like that it ended so soon!
A rich playboy, Hudson Carlyle, with a disdain for all the pomp and decorum demanded by his family, has a secret life that he keeps under wraps by appearing to be a carefree guy with no real purpose in life. Felicia Hartigan would much rather be anywhere else than at a cocktail party but when you study ants, sometimes you have to socialize with the people who make your work possible. Fundraisers and asking for donations are at the top of her list of things she’d rather not do. She already has a list of what she wants to accomplish by age 30 and that’s not on it!
Hudson knew from the moment he saw Felicia that he wanted her but she was focused on his brother’s best friend. He only had to figure out a way to get the two guys to talk again and that would get his mother off his back about finding a woman to marry. Easy enough – he’d just make Felicia part of the plan and maybe he would have a little fun doing it.
You know they will have the HEA but it sure was fun to see how they got there! Love the story and commend the author for her ability to draw this reader in and leaving me to want more at the end!

I really enjoyed this read. I especially appreciated that while the hero can be a Charmer, he actually allowed his playboy reputation to persist and grow so he could do the thing he loves - painting. The heroine seemed pretty clueless for most of the read, especially for a smart chick. However, I appreciated how willing she was to go for what she wanted and sit when she was wrong.
If you don’t mind a hero and heroine who can complete for a "most stubborn award", I think you'll find a lot to enjoy about this read.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A charming story by Avery Flynn, The Chamer, book two in her Harbor City series is the perfect title for this wonderful and funny book, but you might be surprised as to who is the real charmer. What begins as someone helping another attain goals set fifteen years prior turns into a charming tale of secrets, family, humor and a steamy attraction between two people.
Carefree billionaire, Hudson Carlyle has had no trouble charming his way through life. He agrees to help ant researcher Felicia Hartigan check off that last goal on her before thirty check list, get asked out by her dream guy. He decides to play Henry Higgins to Felicia’s Eliza, My Fair Lady in modern times. This story contains a lot of flirting, a number of laughs, a few secrets on Hudson’s part, and a few unexpected twists and turns.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Ms. Flynn is an excellent storyteller, keeping me interested in this story so that I had trouble putting it down. I definitely recommend this outstanding book to other readers.

The Charmer, the second book in the Harbor City series is personally my favorite! Avery Flynn pulled out the swoon factor like no other in this book!!
Hudson and Felicia are a match made in heaven...if she would just open her eyes to what is in front of her instead of pining away on someone who she’s known her entire life. This book was equally hot, sexy and fun. The conversations between Hudson and Felicia were hilarious and downright panty melting hot. I love the total nerd aspect of Felicia and yet she could hold her own with Hudson. The fact that she was not totally turned on by him from the first moment she laid eyes on him...something he NEVER expected! Hudson was just so freaking HOT!! His snarkiness, his plan to “help” Felicia catch the man of her dreams when all the while, he knew she was the one for him...sigh...he was so much more than I thought he’d be!!
Avery Flynn has given us another fun and exciting story with The Charmer! I enjoyed every word of it!
What can I say about The Charmer? Besides the fact that I had a great time reading this story between Hudson and Felicia, it was funny and well written and just…great.
Felicia is the perfect heroine. She’s nerdy as hell and isn’t all that concerned with her appearance which I found a relief because it made her more real, more human. But what I loved was that she didn’t hide her nerd. Hell, she couldn’t help but let it shine because it was her down to her bones. But I liked that at the beginning she wasn’t all that likable, at least to me. She was pretty judgmental about Hudson, which was a bit of a turn off. But all it took was him calling her out on judging him without the scientific method and BAM she used her logic to give him a chance.
And Hudson, well what can I say? I friggin’ LOVED him! If you think The Charmer is another story about another well off playboy, you’d be wrong. Hudson has layers, depth and a real personality behind all that charm and once you get to know all that about him, I dare you not to fall in love! Plus, a sexy billionaire with a secret love of matchmaking? YES, please!
I read this book in about one day—to the detriment of my quickly growing workload—because it was just that good. I loved Felicia Hudson together, the flirting and ant facts and talk about panty color. It was the kind of book that makes you wear a goofy smile the whole time.
To me Avery Flynn has given me everything a good romance needs; a sexy hero, a sassy heroine and just a pinch of drama so they learn to appreciate the love they found. And she’s given it in spades in The Charmer.
This is the perfect nerdy girl getting the hot guy by just being herself! I knew I would love Hudson as soon as we were introduced to him in The Negotiator and I was right -- he's that "charming" guy who seems to have it all but underneath is missing something in his life and Felicia is the answer. Fun, flirty, sweet and hot -- this story had it all. Definitely recommend if you like hot romantic comedies - I really enjoyed it!
Hudson Carlyle, second son of the Harbor City Carlyles, who build most of Harbor City, is known as a irresistible, charming rogue. However, he couldn't take his eyes off of her the moment he saw her at the Harbor City Museum of Natural History's Ant Lab . Felicia Hartigan, with her long dark hair pulled back in a ponytail wearing a black boxy shapeless dress is not his usual type. She is an entomologist, specializing in myrmecology, specifically the honeypot ant. As the fixer of the family, he is charged by his mother to repair the rift between his older brother Sawyer and his former best friend Tyler Jacobson. Meanwhile, Felicia has had a crush on Tyler since she was a girl and Tyler was the boy next door and friend of her older brothers. Unknown to all but his gallery owner, he is a well known and demanded painter. So Hudson strikes a bargain with Felicia. He will be her Henry Higgins and help her capture Tyler's attention, if she will let him paint her afterwards. and so begins this comedy of errors, where no one knows what they really want. I received an ARC for an honest review and I found this an extremely charming read. Recommend to all who enjoy ROMCOMs.
I loved this novel! This is the best kind of novel to read. It grabs you in the first chapter and will not let go until the very last page. I started reading this early in the evening and honestly could not put it down, I stayed up most of the night reading not because I wanted to but because I had to. Loved it. I loved the characters and I love a novel that can make me laugh out loud. Loved it! I loved Hudson and Felicia. I loved the dialogue and the banter. I can't wait to see what this author has coming next.
After reading The Negotiator, I was looking forward to reading the follow up book. Hudson and Felicia's story in The Charmer was entertaining, but fell a little short of expectations.
I struggled a bit in connecting with both Hudson and Felicia. They were good characters with interesting back stories, but for some reason they just didn't click with me.
The Charmer is a bit of a My Fair Lady story and openly embraces that. The spin was part of what I liked about the book, but some of the execution is what I didn't like. Felicia's character is at times presented as the innocent "Eliza Doolittle" type character then that gets flipped around and her personality morphed when she and Hudson were intimate. It left me a little unsure as to who she really was.
There also seemed to be a lot of focus on Tyler, who I am assuming will be the star of the next Harbor City book. Some of it was necessary as he is the foil in the Felicia/Hudson situation, but some of the focus seemed to be more on setting up his story.
This was a good book, but just not what I had hoped for going in.
This was a good read. Really enjoyed the characters and the storyline flowed nicely. Pages just flew by. Would recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This book was a really fun and wonderful story. I absolutely loved everyone in the story. It stars Hudson, a rich, bored socialite, I guess we can call him. At least that is what he shows the world as his personality as the charmer. The reaity is he is a famous painter but its a big NO in his family.
One night at a fundraiser he spots scientist, Felicia and he finds her fascinating. He finds out she has a major crush on his brothers best friend, Tyler. Tyler and his brother are having some issues so he devises a ridiculous plan to get Felicia, Tyler and reunite his brother and Tyler.
What he doesn't account for is that Felicia is like no one he has met before and he plays a little Pygmalion with her, he falls for her...but what about her dreams about Tyler.
This was well written and extremely fun. I highly recommend the story for a fun read.
I feel like this book has been done before.... many times. And the thins is, I don't get it. I don't get when people help other people land the person of their dreams, when it happens to be another person. I don't get why people need sex lessons with other people. when everyone one is different.
what a amazing story I just love these kind of story's thank you so much
