What a read! Oh the secrets!!! Action packed mystery of who done it. All the way through the book I was trying to figure out who did what. Great read. I recommend it highly.
I was given a early copy through Netgalley for an honest review.

This is probably my least favorite of this authors books. I LOVE her books! The beginning was very confusing (at least to me). Althought not a favorite, it was a good read and gets you thinking; could this really happen and work for someone. The title makes complete sense in the end; she was good!

I'm a fan of Ms Mckenzie's and have read all her novels. Although not one of my favourites, this is still a good mystery story. Unlike some of her other books though, I found this one somewhat slow and a bit predictable at times . I did enjoy the different perspectives the story was told from and the overall plot.

I’ve been a fan of author Catherine McKenzie since her first book and she just gets better and better. Her books have gotten more thrilling and intense and its fun to see an author grow in her work. Great job, Catherine!

Now she has a new page-turner called The Good Liar.

Here’s what you need to know:

Can you hide a secret with the whole world watching?

When an explosion rips apart a Chicago building, the lives of three women are forever altered.

A year later, Cecily is in mourning. She was supposed to be in the building that day. Instead, she stood on the street and witnessed it going down, with her husband and best friend inside. Kate, now living thousands of miles away, fled the disaster and is hoping that her past won’t catch up with her. And Franny, a young woman in search of her birth mother, watched the horror unfold on the morning news, knowing that the woman she was so desperate to reconnect with was in the building.

Now, despite the marks left by the tragedy, they all seem safe. But as its anniversary dominates the media, the memories of that terrifying morning become dangerous triggers. All these women are guarding important secrets. Just how far will they go to keep them?

Oh MY what a ride!!

This is my second read by Catherine McKenzie and man did I enjoy this book! First, let me just comment on the cover. So gorgeous!!

This one is a twisty and edgy story about secrets, lies, and betrayal that come to life surrounding the lives of three women that are connected. On October 10th at 10 am a building exploded that killed over 500 hundred people. Let's spring forward a year and "Triple Ten" is all over the media being remembered again.
The Good Liar is a strong character driven novel about three women Cecily, Franny, and Kaitlyn that have been impacted in different ways from the Triple Ten tragedy. The story is told alternating from the three women's perspectives and each story is slowly unfolded at the seams. But, it's never that simple is it? Who is telling the truth?! Who is possibly the "good liar?"
McKenzie does a fantastic job with her characterization. Her previous novel, Fractured, I thoroughly enjoyed and once again her skills/depth of writing is just flawless in this one.

Compulsive, addicting, twists, turns, drama.... what more can you ask for?! And, just how I like my novels... that last little twist McKenzie sprinkled on the top of the cupcake was AHHHHMAZZZING.

Pre-order this one ladies and gents! I promise you will not be disappointed. Highly highly recommend this addicting novel.

4.5 stars!! :)

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Catherine McKenzie, and Lake Union Publishing for an advanced arc in exchange for a honest review.

I received an advanced review copy of this book from The Great Thoughts Ninja Review Team. All opinions are my own. This book started as a sparkler for me just sizzling along until it exploded like an M80 taking off so fast I had to scramble to keep up with it. It's breathtaking. It's unputdownable. You will loose chunks of time like I did. I would read for a while then look up see the time and realize that I almost forgot to feed the dogs. It deserves a lot more than five stars. Happy reading.

Like a tantalizing gourmet meal, Catherine McKenzie blends the ingredients of her story, The Good Liar, into a delectable treat! The book centers on two storylines revolving around a catastrophic event that occurred one year ago. Each character’s story is divinely woven until they masterfully collide with a pop of flavor! Readers will enjoy distinguishing between which of the main characters plays best at the role of “the good liar.”

It’s been a year since an explosion rocked a Chicago building killing more than 500 people on Oct 10 at 10 AM. Now, Teo is working on a documentary to bring to light the affect the explosion had on the lives of the family members of the victims. Cecelia lost her husband Tom but barely survived herself. She is trying to do what’s best for her family but is thrown into the limelight because of a picture of her taken by Teo on the day of explosion that went viral. She is trying to use this fame to bring positivity to other people’s lives and help them get compensation. Kaitlin is trying to build a new life for herself in Canada but is unable to escape the memories of her last. Franny is trying to reconcile finally meeting her biological mom with the fact that she died soon after in the explosion. The story follows these three women in how they are handling the aftermath of the tragedy and slowly, we begin to see the secrets unfold.

None of the three women are your typical heroines. They have their flaws which got on my nerves quite a bit but they also have their redeeming qualities. That’s why these women seem quite real. The writing is very fast paced and I almost finished the book in a single setting. It was kinda easy to guess the ending (or the beginning), which I did halfway through the book, but the why of it was very unexpected. I really couldn’t believe the events that unfolded in the last third of the book. And what can I say about the epilogue; it was EXPLOSIVE!!!! And then the book was over….. I really longed for a little bit more; just enough to know what happened to the characters next. This is a wonderful mystery for all like-minded readers and I can assure you, it will not disappoint you.

The Good Liar is another great thrill read by Catherine McKenzie. Given the nature of the book, it's hard to summarize the plot without giving away too many spoilers.

On October 10th at 10am, there is a large explosion in an office building in Chicago. Over 500 people are killed and this novel takes a look at the lives of 3 women who were impacted by the tragedy. Throughout the novel, we find that their stories are woven together. At the end of each Part, a critical element of their relationships is revealed. You must read all the way to the end of the Epilogue to get that last nagging question answered. I enjoyed this book, because the twists that I thought I had figured out were not as they appeared. The book weaves in familiar scenery in Chicago and Montreal. I have enjoyed all of Ms. McKenzie's novels, and this is no exception.

I received this as an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley, and I've pre-ordered it to ensure it is on my personal bookshelf.

THE GOOD LIAR is a thriller that kept me at the edge of my seat as the story unfolded. The begins a year after a tragic explosion office building that kills Cecily's husband and best friend. Cecily feels guilty because she was supposed to be in the building that day. A photographer captures her image moments after the building and she becomes the poster child for the tragedy. But nothing is really as it seems. As a documentarian interviews those affected by the explosion, he begins to uncover inconsistencies in the survivors' stories. His personal involvement with Cecily further complicates matters, resulting in a well plotted story with lots of twists. The ending felt a little incomplete, but overall, I really enjoyed the book.

I received this arc yesterday & I am already finished reading it this morning. I would have read it straight through, but I needed a couple hours of sleep. I definitely recommend reading this book, you won't be disappointed! There were so many highs & lows, twists & turns, & an incredible ending. Exceptional plot & writing!! A must read! One of the best of I have read in 2017!!

Cecily & Tom, together for 22 years, married for 20. They have two beautiful children & a beautiful life, or so Cecily believes. Kaitlyn is Cecily's best friend. She works for Tom. She has secrets that she has kept to herself. And there is Franny, a young woman desperately searching for her birth mother.

An explosion of the building where Tom works, & where Cecily was supposed to meet him, buries many secrets that Cecily, Kaitlyn & Franny hopes doesn't ever have surface. The one year anniversary marks the unraveling of everyone's secrets.

Thank you NetGalley &, Lake Union Publishing for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

A year after a gas explosion destroys an office block in Chicago, killing hundreds of people, Teo is making a documentary about how it has affected three families. Cecily lost her husband Tom and she and her children received generous compensation. Joshua lost his wife Kaitlyn (Cecily's best friend), but there have been issues with the evidence proving she was among the dead, so his compensation has been delayed. Finally there is Franny, the child Kaitlyn gave up for adoption 20 years ago, but about whom she never told either Joshua or Cecily. An additional thread features Kate, who fled the explosion and ran away to Montreal, where she works as a nanny. This thread is worked in to the main narrative fairly early on.

I found this novel gripping and well-written. There are revelations throughout which make the reader re-evaluate what is true about the characters and about how they are connected to each other. I found Kate rather an opaque character, whose actions made little sense to me. Cecily on the other hand was easier to identify with and I enjoyed the chapters featuring her with her children and/or Teo. There were also parts of the story told by way of scripts from Teo's interviews and these worked well to vary the narrative voice.

I am deducting a star for the ending.

SPOILERS

Franny having caused the explosion seemed to me an unnecessarily dramatic twist, and I was also confused about why Franny's sister claimed so vehemently that Franny was not adopted. I feel like this should be a matter of incontrovertible public record.

Three women united by an event the press called Triple Ten, the explosion of a building that killed over 500 people. Cecily’s husband was killed in the explosion, but she’s no grieving widow. Kate has taken refuge in Canada to escape from the tragedy and her part in it, and Franny is looking for her birth mother, a woman she will do anything to find. This was an interesting story about the aftermath of a national tragedy, and McKenzie had me flip-flopping on who di what to who for quite a while. A fun, suspenseful read
