The author wrote a captivating book about immigrating to the United States and the adventures she had in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I felt like I was gossiping with a friend while reading this, as it is a really juicy read!
Great for a fan of memoirs, or anyone who enjoys reading about the 60's and 70's rock scenes.
This is a surprisingly good read. It's a retrospective trip through the sixties and seventies through the adventures of an artist, model, actress, glamgirl, partygirl. It's actually the memoirs of someone who was not quite famous, but traveled at the fringes of fame. Starting with coming to America during the early fifties McCarthy era, Novak tells a tale of growing up in suburban Southern California that morphed into the freewheeling rock and roll Summer of Love sixties, seeing every concert right down to the horror that was Altamont, to the glam-rock seventies in an aging Los Feliz mansion which was party central. While there are no earth-shattering philosophical lessons here, she writes with such verve, excitement, and enthusiasm that she makes her memories of this period come alive.
