3* A bit of a fill-the-gap-but-also-introduce-a-future-lead tale. Well-written, but missing...stuff.
If you've read the Aidan and Jamie tales, then like me, you probably had high expectations of this one. It features Mel and Danny, the former sister-in-law of, and brother to, Aidan, so they're known characters whose romance started in the series.
Unfortunately, the series was a little too obvious in what happened to Mel and Aidan at the start, and then the tangent to a supposed terrorist organisation and then to the crux of the matter, which felt really, really weak and fabricated. Also, from the moment a certain character appeared and got bigged-up, it was clear that this would be Cameron's co-lead in a future tale, and lo-and-behold, I was on track.
It's an OK read, but it's not anywhere near up there with the original series.

i adored Mel from the moment she appeared in the AIW series and i totally shipped her and Danny right away. So the relationship unfolding in the background of Jamie and Aidan's story had me hooked. So of couuurse i was thrilled they were getting this novella.
Mel is a badass and i love how Danny loves that about her. I want mooore of these twooo. i know i know im being greedy maybe, but i still want more! They were so good together.
As with Layla's books we have some action going on here! whew! This family draws trouble like ants to sweet things but it makes for some tense fun for sure.
Throughout the story we get flashbacks for both Danny and Mel, of their time together and key moments when they were younger. I loved those. they really shed some light on parts of their relationship we werent privy to in the AIW series and the snapshot of moments from their youth really added some depth to who they are as people.
This book is about family as much as it is about these Mel and Danny's relationship. The Talleys are a close knit group and i love how Mel fits right in and they love her! :)
Also there's a thiiiiiiing that had me squealing but no spoilers so :D
quick, fast paced, awesome read.
Alsooo made me excited for more Cam and Nic! Thoroughly enjoyed!
I have had my eye on the Agent Irish and Whiskey series for a while so when the chance came to review this I jumped at it, even though this was a spin off.
Tequila Sunrise was everything you could want in a novella. It was fast-paced without being rushed and a story that was complete on its own. I've read novellas where it feels a bit rushed or under developed but this isn't the case here.
Now although I have yet to read the main series I was able to follow the story easily. Though it definitely would have filled out my understanding of the world if I had, I wasn't lost or feeling like I was missing vital information. And I think that's evidence of really good writing on Reyne's part because it might have been easy to feel lost but I didn't. And it certainly boosted my excited for the main series even more.
I loved Mel and Danny's chemistry together and Tequila Sunrise was a short but very enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed this!
I loved these characters throughout the first three books of the Irish and Whiskey series and could not wait to get into their heads more. Mel and Danny are such strong people with fierce love for their families, jobs, and lives. They both fit so well together that there was no doubt that they would sizzle on page when they got their chance.
The suspense and action of the story is a lot of fun. This is what they do... they, especially Mel, solve problems. In this case, there is a huge problem needing to be solved, lives are at stake, and time is running out quick. So when the action happens, it goes by quickly. I did have some minor issues with the way some of this action is broken up. I'm not a big fan of flashback sequences or scenes, and this book is riddled with them. There really are a lot and I sometimes found myself falling out of the intensity of the present moment because I was taken back to a time when either Danny or Mel was remembering a thing. Thankfully, these flashback moments aren't individually long, just frequent, and they are informative. The informative piece is important because some time has passed since the end of the third book of the series with Irish and Whiskey.
That said, this was still a ton of fun to read and I do love Danny and Mel together. For any fans of the Irish and Whiskey series, this is a must read. There is suspense, action, some closure with regards to other characters, some little nuggets of maybies for yet a couple other characters, some sweet and tender moments, and a whole lot of reconnecting with our favorites Jameson and Aidan.
