While reading this book I just kept picturing someone like Evander Kane, who plays for Winnipeg Jets, as Ben. That vision alone had me reading this book pretty fast. Add in his sweet, shy personality and he was just delicious. I somehow missed the first book and will be going back to read it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
The Proposition was a fun, at times entertaining, and sweet read. That also had enough angst to keep it interesting and me engaged throughout. Although I have to say I did find this book to be a little long. But saying that I did like the idea behind it and I thought the characters were great. And not just the main two , but Bens two best friends Jace and Gabe. Who do provide most of the comedy moments. As for Ben and Ryan I definitely felt the chemistry and I liked the relationship that developed between them.
And overall I did think this was a good story and I certainly enjoyed it more than The Bet. Which is the first book in The Players series and I would therefore happily recommend The Proposition to others.
3.5 It is hard when you cannot get your family to understand your happiness is not being a doctor or lawyer. It sucks they are not realizing being a Hockey Player is a huge achievement. Now one of the player''s brothers is getting married leaving him in need for a plus one to protect him from his mom's pushing some perfect date for him.
His friend thinks taking him to a strip club will be the answer to whatever he needs... maybe an escort to fill the bill.
Next we have a waitress at the club who has had enough...grabby hands and a bloody nose cannot be the answer to her life...Things have not been going well with sleeping on couches of friends homes. Now with her walking off the club job, she is really in a bad place... what to do...
Well, fate has an answer with our Hockey player bumping into her as she is leaving and ASSUMING she is an escort... a club girl. He makes an offer she cannot refuse... $5000 for her to be his plus one.
This takes the path of one lie and how it can be that one thing that can test love and those who want more.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved Ryan it’s great to see a really strong and independent woman in a romance novel. I thought the story was really unique as well, I find sometimes romance novels can blend with the same storylines, but this was different to all novels of this genre I’ve read before!
Definitely enjoyed it and will rave about it to all my friends.
Ben Williamson has always felt like the black sheep in his family. They aren’t thrilled that he decided to become a professional hockey player instead of a doctor or lawyer, they just don’t understand him. Now that his older brother is getting married, he needs a pretend girlfriend, so his mother won’t try to set him up with a future wife. When his best friends suggest he hire an escort, they end up taking him to a strip club, which doesn’t exude the finesse a woman should have when they meet his family. When he bumps into a gorgeous woman thru the back door of the club, he thinks she’s an escort and makes her a proposition.
Ryan Cruz just quit her job waitressing at a strip club, after a customer got too handsy and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Now That she’s jobless, Ryan doesn’t know what she’s going to do. Her best friend Camilla has been letting her sleep in her couch, but Ryan knows that can’t go on for much longer. Bumping into Ben was a struck of luck, since he just offered her $5000 to become his fake girlfriend for his brother’s wedding. Deciding to go along with the lie that she’s an escort, Ryan figures that she has no other choice or any other prospects. What starts out as a business arrangement, is beginning to become a relationship. Can she trust Ben or will he call it quits once the wedding is over. I enjoyed the story, however, the reason I didn’t give it four stars, was because of the abrupt ending. I felt the story needed an Epilogue. It just left me wanting more of an ending.
I have now read both books in this series and am so happy that I have had the opportunity to do so. Ryan has been on her own since she was a teenager. She literally bumps in to Ben, bloody nose and all. Ben is a famous, handsome hockey player and so starts there crazy story of Ben needing a date to his brothers wedding and Ryan pretending to be an escort.
With his brother's wedding approaching Ben Williamson is dreading the trip home for the festivities, because he knows with his brother settling down, the question on everyone's minds will be when is it your turn? And Ben has no intentions of walking down the aisle anytime soon, he has a lot of living to do first, and a lot more hockey to play without worrying about finding his forever. So, to keep his family off his back he takes his friends advice and decides to hire a escort to play his girlfriend for the week... and winds up finding something really unexpected, and when the weekend is over he isn't so sure he is ready to let it go!
After one of her customers gets a little handsy Ryan Cruz decides to take matters into her own hands, and let him have it, and her boss isn't too happy about it, he thinks she should just play along and keep the customers happy. But Ryan isn't in the market to be groped, or play along, so she gives her boss her notice and walks out the door, only to realize she may have just made the worst mistake of her life. She is currently homeless, momentarily camping out on her friends couch, and now jobless... what is she going to do? Then fates steps in and decides to help her out and sends Ben Williamson crashing into her life, literally, and from there things in her life start to look up... in more ways then one!
The Proposition is a witty, sexy, and pleasurable read that is sure to have you smiling throughout! Life has thrown these two wonderfully crafted characters together, and given them some rough consequences to muddle their way through, but they make the best of it, and take readers on a enjoyable literary journey. This was my first time reading something from this author and I have to admit I liked what she had to offer, the story line was unique and captivating, the characters were well drawn and easy to attach to, and their little journey to finding forever gave me a serious case of the feels. This one was a fun and memorable literary adventure, I have a feeling that I will be back for more in the very near future to meet more of her wonderful Players! Highly recommend this one, it's sure to make your heart happy!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.
This is the first time I've read this author and wasn't disappointed. The storyline reminded me a bit of "My Fair Lady," although there wasn't any type of bet involved. It was more a changing a person to be believable as a "love interest." It was a quick read, editing was very good and writing style was good.
Will I remember this book in a couple months? Well, probably not. But, I was entertained while I was reading it and I suppose that's the main purpose of reading. hahahahaha I may think about reading the third book in the series for fun. What the heck, right?
I enjoyed this book. It had a good story and I liked the characters. It did have a lot of graphic sex . So ,I do have to warn some of my older customers who do not like the sex scenes.
Didn't realize with was the second book in the series but it required to read book 1 to enjoy this book. Loved this book read it all in one day. I am a huge fan of sport romances and this one was no different!
The second instalment of The Players series isn’t really anything unexpected, but it is an enjoyable read. Some aspects were a little far-fetched, but this is fiction after all, and the reason I read is to escape reality.
A decent plot, interesting characters and a steady pace made for an overall good read. Bring on book 3!
I quite enjoyed this book. I must admit it is my type of storyline. The title in itself grabbed me and the author delivered. Great story with great characters. Great writing.
The Proposition is a New Adult romance. It is the second book of the Players series by Elizabeth Hayley. I’ve read the first book in this series thanks to NetGalley and was happy to jump back in.
The book is about Ben and Ryan. Ben is in a bind. He has to go to his estranged brother’s wedding in a month or so and still doesn’t have a date. And as we know, professional hockey players have trouble finding dates, so his good friend Gabe suggests that he hires an escort.
Ryan is in serious need of money. So, when, right after quitting her job as a waitress in a sleathy stripclub, she stubbles into a hockey player mistaking her for an escort, she just cannot afford to say no…
This was a fast, enjoyable read and exactly what I was in the mood for/needed. It made me feel the exact right amount of things and the characters were flawed and interesting. I liked them all a lot. I saw a lot of me in Ben, especially in his flaws but I still really liked him. I liked the dynamics between all the characters and the whole thing around the wedding was fun. I really had a good time.
All in all, a cute but still forgettable romance.
3.5 Stars
The second book in The Players series The Proposition is an easy read, although somethings in this story seemed a little farfetched overall it was an enjoyable read with good character interaction.
Elizabeth Hayley is becoming my one click author for me. Her books are getting more better with each one I read. I wish I could give her more stars than the 5 coz this book really deserves more. I think Elizabeth is one of the best authors out there at the mo who really knows how to write the perfect sporty’s romance book. Pls give this author and her books a try and you wouldn’t be disappointed. I would highly recommend this book to everyone
Another book I have read lately that I skimmed most of it. I had a few issues with this one. I won't go into it in much detail. But this book has been done some many times now, that without anything super crazy happening, it is over done.
I kept going back and forth on who is more clueless. Ben usually wins, but then Ryan does something that will put her ahead. For me that was the best part of the book.

Genre: romance
A fun read, but a one off for me.
I loved Ben, couldn't understand why he wanted to go to these lengths though just to fool his family. It seemed a bit nut and sledgehammer, and I couldn't see why he just didn't say No to them.
When more about his past came out it was a bit easier but it still sat a bit weird with me. He's a nice guy though, very honest and straightforward - apart from the whole lying to his family thing ;-)
Ryan, I really thought I'd like her - I didn't dislike her, but there were times when I wanted to give her a shake....I understand independence, and she had a horrible background, but she a long time past that now.
" What does your mother do?" "Let's just say she works in pharmaceuticals"
Reminded me of when I was working, we had to get the staff to fill in a police check as they were working with kids. One guy said he had a traffic offence - yep, traffic(ing) heroin.....Words are easy to mislead.
The chemistry between them was great, but for someone so allegedly famous, who's career was at risk if this all came out I was surprised he never got Papped when out with a lady, never got followed by those who wanted a story. That usually follows fame, but he seemed to live a pretty sheltered, private life.
You know at some point the secret will come out but I didn't expect it to get done that way, caught me by surprise and I love it when that happens. I like to be kept on my toes when reading, for the unpredictable to happen.
I loved the other guys (and girls) too, made for a good cast of characters. I did find the ending and the family issues a little quick to get resolved, they felt a bit rushed and too much too soon but....
Stars: three and a half, a fun read, but not a re-reader for me.

This one knocked my socks off! I loved every single minute I spent reading this book. This romance will touch you, make you smile, laugh out loud, and make your heart hurt for Ryan and Ben when things get bumpy. Hayley delivers extraordinary characters that have a "realness" to them that makes it impossible to not fall in love with their story. The romantic relationship isn't the only one that Hayley creates with such skill. She creates ties between families and friends, some solid and some in need of mending. These secondary relationships enhance and guide the romantic ones and allow the reader to connect so much more to Ben and Ryan. I simply can not wait for her next book. There is simply no way to read this book and not be touched. I can't stop smiling.
This is the second book in the series. This was Ben's book, he needs a date for his brothers wedding, whom he does not get along with, and you read the story you find out why they are the way they are. Gabe has this brilliant idea of Ben hiring an escort to the wedding. I love Gabe he is crazy. It was also good to read about Jace and Ally's relationship still going strong, they are from first book, the Bet, and I think you really should read it to give you more insight, plus I liked it better. Ben hires Ryan, who really is not an escort, but a waitress down on her luck. I wasn;t crazy about Ryan, and I am sorry, but I could not accept that Ben would have her move in with him so soon, and thinking she was an escort. Anyway, with all that I still will read next story.
