What do you get when you mix mirrored twins, a family run carnival, a budding first love, and magical realism? You get this fast-paced and sweet middle-grade book. Tally and Tempest are spending the summer with Pa Charlie's traveling carnival with the instructions to enjoy their time together but something mysterious is happening to them. Tally and Tempest uncover a mystery that has spanned generations but will they be in time to stop the family curse from hitting them as well?

I wish I'd had more backstory on Tempest and Tally's mom/aunt and grandmother/great aunt. That being said, I thought it was atmospheric and well written. As the oldest of four girls, I know that sisters fight, not only with one another but to protect one another. I saw a lot of myself in Tally and was touched by their story.
