If someone asked you to describe yourself in 1 word, what would it be? In my experience, few of us would describe ourselves as brave, and yet, when I hear the personal stories if the women around me, I am often struck by just how brave and outrageous they are.
Being Brave is a much-needed, long-overdue devotional on the topic of what it means to be brave and what this ooks like from both a biblical and real-life perspective. To help us get a better grasp of what being BRAVE means, Kelly created this acronym:
Bold
Resilient
Authentic
Vulnerable
Engaged
She also provides a list of Scriptures related to fear and courage at the end of the book!
Each devotional includes an opening Scripture, a thematic devotion, questions to reflect upon, and a closing prayer.
If you are struggling with fear and anxiety, Being Brave is the perfect devotional for you!
This is a great 40 day journey that will change your life. Each day is a journey to understand yourself better and begin to walk into who you are meant to be. The author finishes each day with three questions that are very thought provoking and then a prayer.
I am learning how to walk out Being Brave by Being Bold, Resilient, Authentic, Vulnerable, Engaged and Empowered by the Spirit. Walking in fear through life stops us from living a full life. Being Brave helps you leave fear behind and focus on the Truth which helps you move into the fullness that life has for you. God has made us Brave so learn how to walk it out by getting this book and going on an adventure with this author.
Also, I love the size of this devotional. It fits perfectly in my purse so I can always have it with me.
I was blessed to received an advanced copy of this book and highly recommend it.
Review of Being Brave by Kelly Johnson is a very good devotional. I love the story in the beginning of how she started it when her daughter asked her ‘ mommy I just need you to tell me I’m a brave soldier”” She provides a list of scripture verses in the back about fear and courage that are very helpful. I would have liked it better had she written them up and not made us find them in the bible. I felt there were great scriptures for the devotions. She also created appropriate prayers at the end of the chapter.
She divided the book up as a BRAVE acronym. Bold, Resilient, Authentic, Vulnerable, and Engage. She encourages us to use a notebook or journal and spend time reflecting on the questions that she has at the end of each day’s selection. I would recommend this book for any woman.
Kelly Johnson’s book, Being Brave: A 40-Day Journey to the Life God Dreams for You, is a 40-day devotional. The book is divided, counting the introduction, into six chapters broken into daily devotionals. Each day starts with Bible verses, followed by the devotional section, consisting primarily of personal insights or anecdotes. The day’s lesson concludes with perspicacious questions and a prayer for the day. She ends the book with an invitation from God to start an adventure and Scripture references relating to fear and courage.
Kelly delves into the life of Christ and those closest to Him during the last weeks leading up to His crucifixion. She focuses on His teachings to the disciples and His bravery, courage and unimaginable love for mankind.
Being Brave provides us with the necessary means to overcome our thoughts, doubts, anxieties and apprehensions and take the actions needed to move into a more significant and personally fulfilling life of bravery.
We, as readers, are challenged and encouraged to “Be Brave,” to let go of our fears and pre-conceived ideas of ourselves and become the person God wants and intends for us to be.
I received this book from NetGalley. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This Bible study came at just the right time. In my battle with chronic disease, I have so many insecurities, frustrations and fears. My life came to a stop over two years ago. I have struggled with so many questions since. This book gave me a whole new perspective on God's word and how to face everyday head on. Great Bible study for small groups, Sunday School class or personal study. Highly recommend!

I am reviewing a copy of Being Brave through Abington Press and Netgalley:
In this book the author talks about the Building Blocks of Being Brave. We are reminded that Being Brave is being bold.
We are reminded too of the importance of speaking the truth in love!
The importance of showing the hurt kindness and love is also addressed.
We are reminded too that Being Brave is being resilient as well as being authentic!
The author goes on to point out that Being Brave is being vulnerable. We are reminded too that Being Brave means that we are engaged as well!
In this book we are reminded too that Being Brave means that we are empowered by the Spirit.
I give Being Brave five out of five stars!
Happy Reading
