Awesome!!! I couldn't put this book down. I didn't see it coming at the end. I couldn't believe who the killer was. The main detective, Ruby, in this book was great. She was a very lovable and relatable character. All the characters were. It had great characters, story line and very believable. I really enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend this one.
Caroline Mitchell has done it again! She’s created a tense crime thriller that I could not read fast enough. I was desperate by the end to know who our culprit was. The clues are definitely there but they only make sense once there is the grand reveal.
The character of Mason Gatley was impeccably created. Every conversation he had with Ruby gave me the creeps. She doesn’t get a straight answer out of him and just the way he takes made my skin crawl!!
I do love Caroline’s writing; it got pace balanced with intrigue and tension. She manages to seamlessly lead you (well me anyway) up the garden path only for it to be the wrong garden path and your mind is befuddled as to what’s going to happen next.
The Ruby Preston series shows off Ms Mitchell’s past life as a police officer. With each of these books, I’ve felt I’m right there in the investigation but fighting the internal battles with red tape and under-resourcing.
I hope to see more of Ruby Preston in the future. Her relationships with Nathan and Cathy are only just settling, I’d love to see how this progresses particularly if Cathy does follow the career path she’s thinking of! Nathan’s brother doesn’t feature as much in Murder Game but he is definitely lurking in the background, letting his presence be known.
‘Murder Game’ by Caroline Mitchell, out yesterday and published by Bookouture
Firstly its important to say that although this is the 3rd book to feature Detective Ruby Preston it is very much also a stand alone book and didn’t dissuade from my enjoyment of the book in any way, there are tidbits of information from the previous 2 books but unlike some books in a series it doesn’t mention other cases etc but just a few personal details which enhances the book and doesn’t detract from it
So, the book, well it is most basic form it is a book about a nasty serial killer and how Detective Ruby goes about trying to solve the case....it is much much more than this though,it is an exciting, fast paced book which drew me in very quickly and kept me there, the characters are all well written and you soon know who is a goody, baddy or an inbetweener!
I loved Ruby, her good points, her flaws, her humanness and her drive and equally was horrified by the serial killer ( obv cant name as gives the story away), you also get involved in sub stories of friends with long held grudges, tv personalities, other serial killers serving time in jail, newly found adopted children and many other interesting and quirky folk who pop in n out of the story
The story takes you to maximum security prison cells, illicit web pages on the dark web that cater to very specific sexual wants and then to the fraught Police incident rooms where even in the midst of all this good humour and camaraderie are to be found, and lets not forget telephone help line centres where the desperate ring...all leading to a very exciting and IMO very unpredictable ending
A really really good read and ai thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so before writing this I went to look up the previous 2 books in this series about Ruby and the authors other 6 weeks as I want to read them all
10/10 5 stars 😃
I’ll admit now I had trouble writing this review. This is the first of the DS Ruby Preston series that I’ve read and while it works on its own I think you would get more out of it having read the previous books first. There are character relationships in the book that have clearly been developed from the previous two books so in not reading them you miss out on some of the depth and understanding of the background to them.
However, the main focus of the story is the murders of women that have been set up by the killer and have an experience that is completely different from the one they were expecting. The killer plays and taunts with his victims and the police. The investigation is, as I would expect many are, convoluted and confusing with lots of hints, leads and dead ends. The killings are very similar to those carried out by Mason Gately years before and as he is currently in prison for his murders the Ruby decides questioning him is a good idea despite the risks to herself.
The story is definitely fast paced and gripping but, at times, also a bit confusing. There are a lot of characters be them victims, family, friends or police and I found it occasionally tricky to keep track of who was who, something I suspect would be less of a problem for someone who has read the previous two books. The scenes with Mason Gately were creepy and made me want to skip past them so I could stop reading about him because he made my skin crawl. I found the scenes with the current killer in them fascinating. Although your first instinct is to hate him for what he has done there was a humanity to him which added so much deooth and prevented him from being a cliché.
I enjoyed this book, it’s definitely one you can read and disappear into. It’s very easy to get caught up in the fast pace, and the feelings of Ruby and the victims as the story progresses. With that in mind I have two recommendations for you before you read this book, 1. Read the previous books first and 2. Makes sure you have plenty of time free when you start reading, you’ll need it because you’ll struggle to put this book down!
Murder Game is the third and final instalment in the Ruby Preston series, boo hoo. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Ruby and I’m quite sad that the series is over, however this is a cracker of a book and one I couldn’t put down.
In Murder Game, Ruby and her team are on the hunt for a copycat serial killer who is basically mirroring the actions of notorious Mason Gatley, known as The Lonely Hearts killer from ten years ago. With only a few clues and time not on her side, Ruby has to come face to face with Mason in the hope he can help shed some light on the new killer.
Mason is a real creep, I honestly got the shivers reading the scenes where Ruby visits him. Mitchell has a fabulous way of bringing characters to life and I couldn’t help feeling tense and uneasy. Another character that gave me the shivers was the killer, although we don’t know who he is until the end, I did have my suspicions many times and each time I was wrong.
Ruby is as determined as ever and I love her relationship with Downes, they both work really well together and have each others backs. If Ruby hadn’t been with Nathan I would have liked to have seen them form a relationship. As for Nathan, well I’ll be honest and say I was a bit disappointed. There just wasn’t enough of him in Murder Game, I have a little soft spot for him.
Murder Game is a fast paced book and Mitchell really knows how to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This is a tense read that kept me guessing right up to the end and then knocked me off my feet. I honestly don’t know how Mitchell does it but each book just seems to get better and better.
Murder Game could be read as a standalone but if you’re a fan of fast paced police procedural thrillers then you’ll really enjoy this series. It comes highly recommended from me.
How on EARTH do I write a review to do this book any sort of justice?!
We are back joining Detective Ruby Preston as she investigates the murders of multiple women. All the murders seem to have something in common and, according to one of Ruby's colleagues, the current investigation is sounding all too familiar. Given that the previous killer is growing old disgracefully behind bars, there is a slim chance of him committing the murders himself. But, as the clock starts ticking even loudly, even more lives are in the balance.
Is it weird of me to say that the further into the investigation details I got, the more engrossed I became? It felt like the more gross the image was painted, the quicker I seemed to turn the page. I was hooked on absolutely everything from Ruby's personal life to her relationship with her colleague, to the murder investigation to the man in prison. Of course certain parts of the book did ignite slight nausea but my curiosity got the better of me, naturally.
As always, I tried to piece the jigsaw pieces together to come up with my own conclusion as to who the murderer was and, up until three-quarters of the way through, I was absolutely convinced I had nailed it. Well, if I was in the police force right now, i would have nicked the wrong person. As for who the finger was pointed to in the end made me drop my jaw in shock. Was I expecting it? Was I heck!! I was pretty much looking everywhere but.
I really don't want to give anything away so I'm trying to keep this brief! All I want to do is go 'OMG YOU JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU READ THE PART WHERE.....', but I don't want Bookouture to put me on the naughty step or ruin the authors hard work. And by golly has Caroline Mitchell worked hard with this book! The entire storyline is so cleverly written! Not only did the story contain (in my eyes) multiple red herrings, every situation, circumstance and new pieces of information just flowed like a waterfall. There were no stagnant pauses, no creating characters just to fill up space, no slow areas for me to sit and twiddle my thumbs. Nothing like that at all. Instead the storyline was fast paced, full of grit, full of suspense and multiple shocking moments.
If someone asked me to find something about 'Murder Game' that I disliked - hand on heart I would reply with 'absolutely nothing'. Honestly. Caroline Mitchell has written an explosive, highly intense, addictive and utterly shocking novel which kept me on my toes from the very first page. THIS is the type of novel which ticks every single one of boxes, including boxes I never knew existed.
A mind-blowing, 'where the hell did that come from' type of read, guaranteed to make you question everything...
Highly recommended. This author is an absolute genius.
Thanks Bookouture.
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of this author's books so I was really excited when I saw that the next book in the Detective Ruby Preston series was being released I knew it would definitely be a book for me and I wasn't wrong!
The pace was great and the plot was superb, it was really well thought out and well planned and researched. Caroline's knowledge of the Police force does come through in the books and I think that helps make the stories so much more believable that some of the other books in the same genre. The book is gritty and gripping and I barely put it down until I'd finished it!
Without a doubt, the best of the series for me - no hesitation in giving it 5 stars - excellent!!
Those of you that follow my blog will know that I am a massive fan of Caroline Mitchell, especially the Ruby Preston series. So I couldn't wait to get stuck into Murder game the third Book in the series. Has always Caroline doesn't disappoint with this gripping page turner. Which I devoured in one afternoon.
We follow the story a serial killer who plays a terrifying game of life and death with his victims and Detective Ruby Preston must play the game before more woman die. Lonely heart killer Mason Gatley is behind bars for the exact same thing and has been for ten years. Bad boy Nathan Crosby gets involved to set up a meeting. But her team become worried the closer Ruby gets to the dark and charming Mason. The big question is he really helping Ruby or is he lining her up to be his next victim?
Wowsers this book is full of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and will seriously having you guessing until the very end. Once again I freaking loved it. And I really do hope there is more to come from Ruby.
In this story we get to know more of her personal life and family which I found rather unique, it's not everyday I read a detective book and the main character has a daughter. I guess this is why I love Ruby so much she isn't just a Detective she is a person who has feelings and personality and is show throughout all of series. With plots that involve Nathan….boy do I love him. With his criminal connections he is a useful source to her. Ruby certainly lives life on the edge having Nathan in her life. Making this one hell of a gritty read.
I am a massive fan of gangland, so Detective with grit lit is a perfect combination for me. Which I cannot recommend enough Giving it 4 massive stars.
I can never wait to read Caroline Mitchell’s books. This is the third book in the series featuring DS Ruby Preston and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Her latest case sees her having to catch a copycat of the Lonely Hearts Killer, who strangles victims, severs their ringj finger and sends photos of the victims to their families. All these women seem to be looking to have affairs and have used a certain website. To solve this case Ruby has to visit the original Lonely Hearts Killer who was convicted and is still in prison. He wants to play mind games with her and will only give her cryptic clues. You will not be able to put this book down and will be sat on the edge of your chair. So many twists and turns and the ending will leave you open-mouthed! A book not to be missed, I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Well I never, a massive five stars for Murder Game by Caroline Mitchell, in fact if I could possibly score higher I would but Goodreads, Amazon and all the others don’t have a blown away button.
Murder Game is the third in the series following Detective Ruby Preston another rung higher on the ladder, how is Caroline going to top this one, every one in the series is advancing at an almighty rate of knots, I’m in awe of how Caroline manages it.
DS Ruby Preston finds herself and her team embroiled in an investigation surrounding a copy-cat serial killer who appears to have information relating to an incarcerated murderer Mason Gatley “The Lonely Hearts Killer”. The playground for the killer is centred around the Dark Web, an exclusive dating website labelled Debauchery, a den of iniquity where clients are given a free pass to fulfil there fantasy, without repercussions.
The killer is playing a game with three steps, three photographs, Alive, Tortured, Dead. Can Ruby stop them, can she assemble the clues, build the picture and capture the killer before more women die.
Caroline has created a character in Ruth that gives the feeling that she is a living, breathing entity not just in my imagination, she is strong-willed, full of voracious tenacity with a spirit second to none but with the inevitable faults we all possess. I enjoyed reading more about Cathy and Nathan, the two most important people in Ruth’s life I hope in the next instalment Caroline will give us more of the uniqueness of Ruth’s family and maybe something more.
If I was to look at the dynamics of the whole book, I would honesty portray the book as written with fluidity, shown in the small but important attention to detail, which brought the book to life not just in my imagination.
The plot sealed the deal, so to speak, I followed the trail of bread crumbs, picked them up, examined the clues, puzzled over them, had a eureka moment, then got my knickers in a twist, cause I was so wrong…….. Bravo Caroline, you know how to create a diversion and play merry hell with Murder Game.
Like shards of ice dripping through my veins, Caroline Mitchell has induced a euphoric spine-chilling read in Murder Game. Thank you to Bookouture, Caroline Mitchell and NetGalley for an advanced readers copy of Murder Game to read in exchange for an honest review.
Great easy read, characters I immediately identified with and a cracking main plot. I really had no idea who the perpetrator was. I’m annoyed I read this without having read the first two in the series as I think a lot of the subplot has been covered here but I’m going to go buy them anyway. Looking forward to #4 already
This is the third and final book in the Ruby Preston series, I absolutely loved both Death Note and Sleep Tight and I highly recommend this series. Mitchell has the unique ability to create wholly believable characters and well plotted scenarios that are guaranteed to keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat the entire time.
I love that this case follows a copycat killer and this forced Ruby to visit the original killer, Mason in prison to see if he could be of any help in the investigation. The scenes between these two were chilling and utterly creepy, very Silence of the Lambs and so well done. Mitchell crafts the best serial killers and as a reader with a sick fascination with them, she’s one of the best.
Fast paced and relentless, this is totally a one sitting type of read. I won’t say much about the plot itself except it’s twisty and per usual I had no idea who the killer was, Mitchell always keeps me on my toes. If you like police procedurals and haven’t read this series you should, they have such an authenticity to them and they’re entertaining and exciting, what more could you want?!
This series just keeps on improving with every book and I am loving it! This is book 3 in the DS Ruby Preston series and Caroline Mitchell is fast becoming one of the best crime writers around. My only complaint with this book was the copycat killer following the exact script of the original killer but that aside, 4 stars from me. Well developed characters, a gutsy lead character and short chapters with points of view from Ruby and the killer. I thought I had it all worked out by halfway, then realised I had it all wrong! I would advise readers to read the first two books in the series but it can be read as a stand alone. My thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads, Amazon and Facebook.
**4.5 Goodreads Stars**
Caroline Mitchell's Murder Game was a great literary precursor to Halloween, as it was a terrifying, heart-pounding mystery that kept me guessing until the very last page!
A murderer is on the loose in London, holding the city hostage in fear of becoming his next prey. At first the murders appear to be the work of Mason Gatley, a serial killer who is now behind bars for his gruesome killing spree years ago. The recent murders share many similarities, which leads Detective Ruby Preston to question Gatley about his possible involvement with them. Is Mason orchestrating killings from behind bars, or is someone else committing the stomach-turning murders for entirely different reasons? Is Ruby's involvement with a former criminal coming back to haunt her and her police force?
Murder Game is the third book in the Detective Ruby Preston series. Since this was my first book in the series, I was a little nervous to dive into it. Thankfully I had no trouble immediately jumping into the story because of Caroline Mitchell's writing. She familiarizes her readers with all the characters within the first few chapters of the book so you aren't missing any backstories.
I absolutely love authors who create living, breathing characters who are human and have faults. Caroline Mitchell's detective Ruby Preston is that type of character, one you root for but can also be critical of. I liked that Ruby is strong female lead who is opinionated and smart but also makes mistakes like any human being.
I also appreciated the richly written dialogue and Mitchell's attention to small, but critical details. Things like how a person moves, how they glance at another person, and their mannerisms made the characters come to life for me, and offered the reader clues as to who may be behind the murders. Mitchell is the master of what writers call "show not tell," meaning that she shows a character's personality through their actions and behaviors rather than telling the readers a character's motivations. The book was a seamless read for me due to Mitchell's command of the written word, and I will definitely be picking up more books in this series in the coming months!
Finally, I enjoyed the plot and did not see the killer coming until it was revealed to the reader. More seasoned murder mystery readers might pick up on it a bit earlier into the book. Mitchell drops hints here and there in the book, so mystery fans may figure it out before they get to the end of the book. I liked how Mitchell took the readers in many directions, all of which could have lead to the unveiling of the killer. The plot had thrilling twists and turns that kept me guessing with each page.
Thank you so very much to Noelle Holten at Bookouture, NetGalley, and Caroline Mitchell for an advanced copy of the thrilling Murder Game. It was a pleasure reading it!
This review is written with thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my copy of Murder Game.
Detective Sergeant (DS) Ruby Preston is back with her team. She is called to an incident where a victim has been murdered, her ring finger has been removed and photographs of her, first alive, then tortured, then dead have been sent to her husband. Ruby must find the killer before any more women are killed. As the investigation deepens, Ruby learns about a murderer dubbed the "Lonely Hearts Killer", Mason Gatley, who was convicted ten years ago. The murders follow a similar pattern, so Ruby is compelled to speak to Mason to find out what he knows. Does he hold the key to solving the murders, or is he stringing Ruby along?
Murder Game is the third instalment in the Ruby Preston series, and I was looking forward to seeing her character develop even further with this novel. I was surprised that Ruby's relationship with Nathan Crosby, frowned upon by her colleagues as Nathan has a chequered criminal history, appeared to take a back seat this time, but I was pleased to see Ruby begin to build bridges with daughter, Cathy. The lighter focus on Ruby's personal life allowed her to get her teeth into the investigation, and this helped me to see the more professional side of Ruby, both in terms of her determination to catch the killer and her friendships with her colleagues, particularly Luddy. Mitchell's background as a police officer gives the procedural element of Murder Game more authenticity than other series of a similar nature.
The "murder game" in which Ruby is embroiled in this novel is fascinating. Mitchell takes the reader to exclusive hotels and golf clubs, and this created an extra layer of intrigue for me as it is not an environment with which I am familiar. It also takes Ruby out of her comfort zone and it was interesting for me to see her reactions in different situations. The investigation is fast paced, as the race against time to find the killer heats up, and there are many unexpected situations before the crimes are solved. All the way through, I was rooting for Ruby and her team, and was gripped by thoughts of what would happen next.
I hope this is not the last we have seen of DS Ruby Preston.
Holy moly. If ever there was the perfect case for Ruby Preston to sign off on, then I have to say this is probably it. From the very get-go this book draws the reader in. By the second chapter it sets your nerve endings a jangling and then it keeps you perched, rather uncomfortably at times, on the very, very edge of your seat. And then smacks you in the face. Repeatedly. In a good way. A very good way.
With a perfect combination of brilliant storyline, engaging characters, and an easy flowing narrative, Caroline Mitchell has provided fans of the series with yet another superb story, one which I am sure will be another big hit. There is no doubting what a great protagonist Ruby Preston is, and with such a wild array of characters, from the good to the bad, surrounding her, there is more than a little something for everyone.
Now I don't want to go to much into plot detail as the blurb really does pretty well tell you all you need to know. It appears that there may well be a copy cat on the loose, one who is mimicking a rather sadistic serial killer, a case that DI Downes worked on meaning that he is taking the lack of progress in the case quite personally. With Ruby being drawn into killer Mason Gatley's small, prison based world, it becomes a kind of game, one in which Ruby's nerve and intuition are pitched against Mason Gatley's cunning and sadistic nature. But just who will be victorious?
Well ... if you want to know the answer to that, you're going to have to read for yourself because I'm not going to tell you. What I will tell you is that the murders are somewhat macabre and the impact upon the victims families, often cruel. There is somewhat of a moral dilemma in the tale too; something specific about the victimology that the killer uses to justify their deeds. At the end of the day, there is no justification for murder and nobody deserves the fate that awaits the chosen few.
I really love the character of Ruby Preston. She is flawed, but only in a very minor way, making her feel so very human. She is no superwoman but she is also not on a mission of self-destruction either, although if the powers that be ever got wind of her personal situation, that could all change. For this time, sorry ladies, but she is playing happy families with everyone's favourite bad boy, Nathan Crosby. After the major role he played in the previous book, some fans may be disappointed by his infrequent visits to this story. However, Caroline Mitchell more than makes up for it when he is around, the bad boy very much showing his softer, caring side for our Ruby.
As for Mason Gatley - well he's a very strange character. very astute and manipulative but with a very dark aura. There is something very unsettling about him and his relationship with Ruby, how he tries to manipulate her kind of puts me in mind of Hannibal Lecter. Only without the charm. There is a certain, I don;t know, charisma about him, if that's the right word, but I certainly wouldn't trust him, and the way he loves to play games with Ruby means we are almost guaranteed to see even more victims along the way.
The pacing in this book is spot on, leading the reader from one chapter to another with a story which really is very hard to put down. I found myself, not for the first time, reading very late into the night to fit in that all important one-more-chapter and it was a bitter-sweet feeling as I approached the end as while I wanted to know the resolution, I really didn't want the story to end.
This really is a brilliant series and if you haven't read any, you must start from book one. Not because the book contains too many spoilers, it can easily be read as a standalone to be fair. It is simply that you will be missing one hell of a treat if you start and end here, a journey through some cracking stories with a heroine who is just one hell of a lot of fun.
Well, this series just gets better and better!
Murder Game is the third book in the DS Ruby Preston series and if you haven't read the first two already I would highly recommend that you do because they're brilliant! I also prefer to read a series in order as I like to get to know the main characters and their back story.
I have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Ruby again. She's a feisty lady, who is good at her job (despite sometimes bending the rules) and she is very real. I like that we get to see her personal side too. I like that her relationship with her daughter is developing and how close she is to her own mother, despite feeling guilty about the lack of time she is able to give to her with a heavy workload. I think a lot of people would relate to her.
Ruby and her team are faced with another serial killer case. This killer seems to be targeting married women. He captures them, tortures them before eventually killing them. If that isn't horrific enough he sends three photo's to their husband, one before, one during and one after. It doesn't even bare thinking about the trauma these women face before their horrific deaths or the devastation their family members have to endure. He needs to be found and fast, especially as he seems to be copying Mason Gatley, known as The Lonely Hearts killer, who murdered six women in the same way. Mason has been in prison for ten years. Is he involved in these recent killings?
Ruby enlists the help of her boyfriend, Nathan (I still love Nathan!) to get a meeting with Mason. She needs to get him to admit to being involved before anyone else loses their life. He's a manipulative character though. Can Ruby manipulate the truth out of him?
Murder Game is a brilliantly written, fast-paced police procedural with interesting and scarily believable characters. I was immediately gripped by the story, as with the previous books in the series. There are so many twists and turns it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Just when I thought I had it sussed I was proved wrong again.
Just amazing writing! I can't wait for Book 4!
Many thanks to Caroline Mitchell and Bookouture for my ARC. I highly recommend!
I loved the first 2 books in the Detective Ruby Preston series. This 3rd book was good but I didn't enjoy it as much as the others. It was a good story and it was well written but the ending and the twist fell flat for me. I also didn't feel a connection with Ruby. However, I still look forward to reading more from this series.
I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for supplying a copy of Caroline Mitchell's "Murder Game" in exchange for an honest review.
One word : brilliant! What? You need more words to convince you to buy and read this? I'll try but it won't be easy as this latest instalment in the Ruby Preston series totally blew my mind. It's that good, people!
Someone's playing a rather macabre game, a murder game. You know, in case you missed that from the title. When a woman goes missing, a countdown is set in motion and the killer will leave clues in the form of pictures : alive, tortured, dead. Ruby and her team find themselves in a race against the clock when a second woman goes missing.
These acts are reminiscent of a serial killer's work ten years ago. To find answers to her questions, Ruby sets out to meet him in prison. But this notorious killer may just be playing a game of his own. Will he help Ruby? Or is she putting her own life in danger?
These two killers, the original one and the copycat, are by far two of the most disturbing characters I've ever met. Talk about chills running up and down your spine. Murder Game is one dark and intense ride and had me guessing until the end. I had no idea who was responsible for these murders and when the killer was finally revealed, I think my eyes popped out of my head. Utterly blind-sided! Love it!
As always, Caroline Mitchell gets the balance between Ruby's personal and private life spot-on. Her relationship with Nathan continues to fascinate me and I can't wait to see how things will develop in the future. Can there ever be a happy ending for them? Or will Ruby have to make a choice? These are important questions, people, and apart from the brilliant crime fiction aspect of these books, it's why I keep reading. And you should too. At the risk of repeating myself, if you're not reading this series then you are missing out!
I’m a big fan of Caroline Mitchell’s novels. She writes well, constructs good plots and draws strong characters so why did I feel a bit disengaged with this one? Maybe because the story centres around a copycat serial killer and that doesn’t feel that original anymore. The copycat killer follows the script of the original killer, now in jail and known as the 'Lonely Hearts Killer'. Instead of using a lonely hearts ad in the paper the new killer uses an internet dating site aimed at married people who want that something special on the side. He otherwise follows the same script but his motives are quite different.
Mitchell’s DI Ruby Preston and her team do manage to solve this before there are too many bodies, which I liked. I also liked that this wasn’t all about Ruby’s personal life and family conflicts. She’s a strong character and her home life seems a lot more stable now that she has finally accepted her relationship with Nathan Crosby, member of a well known crime family with his own shady past, and is also getting to know Cathy, the daughter they gave up at birth. The pacing is pretty fast as the detectives race to try and find victims from the clues sent by the killer and overall it is an enjoyable read in a great series.
