Easy and simple instructions to draw and color Baylee jay way.........
Draw and Color the Baylee Jae Way provides a good start with basic shapes and color combinations, but it is more blanket guide vice tutorial. It would be a nice complement to a more detailed guide or an IRL art class. Draw and Color may be helpful if you're looking for learning more about an animation/cartoonish drawing style or are a Baylee Jae fan, but it's not quite a practical guide for the art novice.
This book is great if you are interested in drawing and painting in a style similar to that on your favorite mangas or cartoons and want to learn how to use copic markers (alcohol ink). The instructions are clear and simple, perfect for those starting to draw characters and wanting to take it easy and have fun. There is a lot of useful information you can take advantage of, even for the smallest of details like -how to properly draw the folds on clothing-, so that you can achieve great quality drawings.
It provides relevant information about tools and supplies, workspace, sketching, inking, drawing the head + features, hands, feet, proportions, poses, clothes, thumbnailing, silhouettes, composition, lineart, color theory and a strong focus on step-by-step instructions, tips and techniques for working with copic markers.
For those with prior knowledge in drawing and coloring, it will probably feel basic. It is meant to be for those at the beginning of their artistic journey. However, in my case, I knew most of the art concepts yet still found couple of great tips and techniques (I'm fairly new to copic markers). It is well designed (I like my art books to be pretty and inspiring, not like a textbook) and full of images. Love it
This book covers a variety of techniques but in a fun 'cartoon' type way. I enjoyed the blandness of the pictures, and the combination of different techniques mainly covering colour and texture. Some things were glossed over but there was enough information to have a go at anything. A big bold book full of fun and colour.
This book is not what I expected. It seems like the author has tried to fit too much into this book. The instructions, although clear, are not very thorough. The whole book is very basic.
I expected this to be another typical draw such and such way book, but was great surprise. It begins as expected and does a little bit on how to draw certain things like eyes, ears, and movement. What is really great about this book is the chapter on coloring. It goes over how to get flat color with a marker, how to add dimension to watercolor, and how to use color and color blending to bring an image to life. A much better book than I was expecting, than anyone who wants to learn more could find useful.
Oh No! I think this book tried to cover too many things at once. The drawing instructions are very scarce; it shows you how to draw a mouth and next it shows you a mouth in profile for you to practice but it doesn't tell you how to do that (or the face that goes with the mouth).
Beware that you must have the whole Copics collection to follow the instructions. Obviously, you could use other markers but, what other brand comes with five different shades of green? (for example).
The book is definitely for children but if you are an adult with absolutely no clue of how to color, this book will also do.
I have read many coloring and drawing books and this one definitely is one of the... least... how can I say it, useful. The tutorials to (for example) color leaves and gems and such are all over the internet so I don't know why she wasted her time including that here. And the tutorial to color gems is not even good - very basic.
In short, I can recommend three GOOD books on drawing and coloring that are way better than this one: How to Draw Fun Fab Faces (books 1 and 2) by Karen Campbell, Color Workshop by Rachel Reinert, and Colorist's Special Effects - color interior: Step by step guides to making your adult coloring pages POP! by Helen Elliston.
I supposed that if you are a fan and follow her Youtube channel you might buy the book to support her and that is fine; but don't expect to find anything new or useful here. Even the instruction to draw a face are available for free online. And the tip of adding salt to watercolor? So old news!
As an insanely talented artist I follow myself on YouTube, Baylee is a top artist to see produce such stunning drawings and artwork all the time.
This book includes your basics from selecting the right pens and tools to tips on gaining some inspiration and drawing the basic human face and form in varying ways complete with a colour theory chart and tips on creating more light or dark characters with certain colours blended together and outlining advice again with the right non smudgable ink pens.
The book features pop art, manga style drawings Baylee has created which are all super colourful and vibrant in a rainbow of colours proving her amazing talents as an artist.
I highly recommend this book if you love art or want to develop your techniques further.
Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
