I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Ok, I’m starting off my saying who doesn’t LOVE Taylor tots? Lots of great recipes in here

Cute idea, but not the best. cookbook. It does have a few creative ideas on how to transform tots. But, some of the recipes are too out there and I didn't want to try them (dessert section). Also, I wish that every recipe had a picture of what the results should look like.

What a fun book! I love books like these because they lure beginning cooks in with a theme (yay tater tots) and then sneakily teach them some pretty solid cooking skills. To wit, the poutine recipe has the very smart tip of using room temperature cheese. Seems simple, but I didn't think of it before, or the suggestion of using halloumi if you don't have cheese curds. The more I flipped through it, the more I thought it would be an excellent starter to lure my 10-year-old into the kitchen.

This is an interesting cookbook. I didn't realize there was so many different ways to cook with tater tots. I have made the tater tots and waffles & bacon wrapped tater tots. The waffles turned out ok. It was tricky to get them off the waffle maker. I will be trying it again. I also made the bacon wrapped totd. I used pre cooked bacon which was ok. It didn't work as easily as I hoped.
This cookbook is great for those who love tater tots and a variety of different foods. I was excited to try the recipes. I found that there wasn't as many recipes I could try that were as kid friendly so making a lot of these for my family would not work. I personally thought a lot of them sounded good. I want to try more of these recipes sometime.

I received this book from the publisher to read and give my honest opinion.

I recommend this book to people who love tater tots.

I love tator tots, and seeing a book full of tot recipes instantly grabbed my attention. Plain ol' tots are yummy just as they are, but I'm always looking for new ways to dish up old favorites, and couldn't wait to see what this cookbook had to offer.

The book kicks off with Tots 101, filling you in on everything you ever wanted to know about tots. You'll learn about the different sizes and types of tots. (How did I not know there was such a thing as sweet potato tots?!) You'll also learn about the different ways you can cook them, and how to make your own tots from scratch—including a variety of seasonings, sauces, and dips for your tots.

Covering everything from appetizers to desserts, Whalen shows how versatile the tator tot can be. With recipes varying from familiar staples (Bacon-Wrapped Tots) to wittily-named creations (Tot-al Eclairs of the Heart), the recipes made me hungry and, occasionally, made me chuckle over the clever names.

I haven't tried any of the recipes out yet, but I intend to do so in the very-near future—the Monster Tot Bacon Grilled Cheese, perhaps? That sounds delish, right?<

If you love tots as much as I do, be sure to check out this cookbook!

Fun fact: this is the first review I've ever written that made me hungry.

This book didn't just give recipes for you to make with Tater Tots you can find at the store, the book actually taught you HOW TO MAKE Tots at home! Even healthy tots are covered. This book would be perfect for that friend or family member who just loves Tots because it is full of photos, recipes, and how-tos that are surprisingly easy to follow and replicate. I decided my brother in law would be the perfect recipient in my family. He not only loves tots, but was avoiding them due to his concerns about their nutritional value. Now he can share these recipes and use the tot recipe that is included for the healthier version.

Tots! by Dan Whalen looks like a promising book featuring an American staple... Potatoes! More specifically, tater tots. I was instantly intrigued to see all the cool things I could do with tater tots to make my life a little more exciting with a simple food.

I had all these crazy ideas in my head about what Dan Whalen could have come up with using this delicious food. However, I was a little disappointed to see some basic things in the book, like using a tater tot to make bite sized burgers, or simply coating them in a special sauce. There were a few that I was excited to try and wasn't disappointed. One was a breakfast dish where the tots were the base and you put eggs and different vegetables and toppings inside of them, making little breakfast cups. Such a good idea, well portioned, and easy for the whole family to help with.

I love the idea of this cookbook, but wish there was just a little more intricacy to it. However, I think this would be a fun addition to any family kitchen. If you love potatoes or tater tots, it's definitely one for you!

When I saw the title of the cookbook I knew I had to request it. My daughters love Tater Tots, as do I. My husband, on the other hand, thinks that they are the least of the potato product family. He repeatedly and vocally compares them to “satan’s a**hole”. He has a lot of opinions. I hoped this cookbook would be a radical re-imagining of Tater Tots.

When I think of tater tots I think of a quintessential American meal. I was raised on tater tots. Whenever I went to my grandparent’s house they were usually a side dish to dinner. Tots! is a cookbook that has tots in every form. It even has how to make your own tots from scratch. A few of the recipes I tried were the Garlic and Chive Tots and the Sesame Ginger ones. The garlic and chive, as well as the sesame ginger, were both very easy to make. I used premade tots for these to cut down on cooking time. The recipes for both call for you to cook the tots and then toss and coat them after you have cooked them. Being careful while doing so, so they don’t fall apart. They are quick and easy only having a few ingredients each.

I really wanted to like this cookbook. At the end of the day, they are still tater tots and there are not very many ways to hide that fact. While the sauces were very good, they would have been good on anything. They didn’t remake the tot, just dressed it up. The recipes we did do, we scarfed down in no time. The flavors were good and they added that extra flavorful layer to plain potatoes. Don’t let my opinion of the cookbook sway your thoughts on it. I do most of my cooking from scratch so this is something that I would not use all that much.

Described as “little balls of potato magic”, “Tater Tots” are the ultimate leftover. Tots! is dedicated to the myriad ways you can eat a potato tot.

Many people grew up enjoying the potato tot, but even those who have never heard of it maybe find a new taste delight here. Whether you choose to make your own or buy them, you will find a recipe for all occasions.

After a very brief introduction, the book is divided into five chapters:

Tot Basics
Tot’Petizer‘s: Small Bites With Big Flavor
Tot O’ The Morning To You: Tots At The Breakfast Table
Tot-Ally Satisfying: Tots In The Main Attraction
Sweet Tots For Your Sweet Tooth: Tots Do Dessert

Starting with Choosing Your Tots, Tot Basics explains the different kinds of tots. This also includes a quick defrosting frozen tots tip.

Moving on to Cooking Your Tots, the pan fry, deep fry, and baked options are discussed. If you want Homemade Tots, two recipes are provided for both potato and veggie versions.

Rounding out the end of the Tot Basics chapter are several easy recipes for Seasonings, Sauces, And Dips.

Each of the recipes throughout the book includes a brief description, serving size, and easy to read instructions. Several also include variations or notes in order to refine or personalize the recipe.

Several of the recipes throughout the book include a lovely full-page picture. There is even a timeline of potato tots Included.

Funny And Innovative

The author’s sense of humor is delightful. Throughout the book, it is on full display, as evidenced by simply looking at the chapter names.

Having been one of those people who did not grow up on potato tots, I found all of this new and interesting. I’ll probably start out with store-bought, but I will definitely want to try some of the recipes with homemade as well.

The one thing I found very surprising was the recipe for eclairs. It never occurred to me that you could make them with potatoes.

I know very few people who are as excited by tator tots as I am, so when i seen this book available on NetGalley I fully admit to kind of loosing my mind a little bit. I had some pretty high hopes for this book, and it did not disappoint! I devoured this whole recipe book, and I will be literally devouring some of these recipes in the next few weeks to come.... as soon as I stock up on more tots. Honestly though, the book was put together beautifully. It was easy to use, easy to read, and the photographs were an added yummy bonus. I have a few friends who will love to have this book, so I now have some xmas gifts planned nice and early! Stunningly delicious!

I have received a much appreciated digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

From types of tots to the best way to achieve perfect crunchiness to using them for dessert, Tots!: A Cookbook by Dan Whalen has something for everyone.

My son, a lover of tots, and I tried several of the recipes. While we enjoyed the exploration, I don’t know that I’d make every recipe again. My son loved the Monster Tot Bacon Grilled Cheese. I loved Tot Nachos and the amazing variety of breakfast recipes using tots. The entire family enjoyed the tot jalapeno poppers.

I doubt that I will ever try to make my own tots from scratch, but I can see my son and his friends giving that a try. I loved the helpful hints on creating the perfect crunch when cooking prepackaged tots. This is such a fun cookbook, and it might inspire a few teens to learn to cook and experiment in the kitchen.
