I like this author. All of his books are solid and suspenseful with good characters and interesting plots. This one was no different !
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced readers copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
SNOW started off strong and full of action in ... the snow. It quickly turned into a cocaine-cartel story and something was missing. I'm not sure what, exactly.
The main characters were mostly unlikeable and they, naturally, did morally gray things. What would we do in this situation was a question I kept asking myself while reading.
I think overall Snow has a good premise, although it reminded me a bit of Breaking Bad and The Sopranos.
I was not a fan, at all, of the 14-year-old trafficked character. I felt like that aspect didn't help the plot along.
Thank you NetGalley and Mandevilla Press for an e-copy of SNOW to review.
I rate SNOW three out of five stars.
Snow by Mike Bond is a gritty, raw thriller. It has many twists and turns and leaves you guessing until the very end how the story will conclude. Two friends, one book smart one a retired NFL player make some questionable decisions while on their annual hunting trip. These decisions force them into a spree of crimes that includes drug trafficking, murder and theft. The book if full of adventure and an enjoyable read.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing this e-ARC. I am anticipating reading this soon and reviewing on my socials.
If you are in the mood for a stressful, wild good chase crime story, this one is for you. The title of this novel ties in cleverly as the story takes place in the winter snow and the main crime also revolves around a plane filled with … cocaine.
This book was a quick read for me, the first from this author. I plan to read more from him.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy for review.
Normal people that make a bad decision leads to a high octane thriller that will keep you reading right up to the very end. You can see the appeal of their decision. If you were facing financial difficulties, stumbling across something that could make your problems disappear would seem like a gift from heaven. However, how would you even sell the drugs? AND.... the cartels and drug dealers NEVER forget. They would come after their missing stash in a big way. Yet, those rational decisions are forgotten when looking at the answers to your prayers. Thus begins the chase. Will the DEA, FBI, their friend or the cartel catch them first?
Snow by Mike Bond is a tale as old as time! Friends go on their yearly hunting trip and they discover an entire plane of cocaine. Of course, one of them take it and all heck breaks loose! I personally love stories like this and I really enjoyed the story!
A well written book by an established author that kept me turning the pages. Would recommend to others as it was captivating, and intriguing.
This story is fast paced and one that many will get sucked into and not be able to put down. It is a story that may be a bit out there, but certainly one that keeps pages turning. Grab this and it give it a read for yourself. It was not one of my top reads, but I’m sure it will be for others.
A pair of friends finding a downed plane loaded with cocooned and their attempt to keep and sell it and make huge amounts of money that they’re desperate for for various reasons. Seems far fetched, but relatively fast moving.
Enjoyed this book from Mike Bond. Always enjoy his characters, and the pacing and plot was also great. Always wondered what it would be like to find a illegal treasure, and now hope I never do. Will be reading move from Mike Bond.
I did not realize this was a 2017 release, but it fits perfectly into my post on Chilling Winter Thrillers, so thanks to the publisher for sending it.
Snow reads like a screenplay with a quick set-up that is designed to set up all the twists. You can almost see how it's all going to play out.
I also found it a little similar to A Simple Plan, which also has a plot about a trio of people who find a crashed plane with bags of money (in the case of Snow, it's bricks of cocaine, which gives the title a nice double meaning.)
Yes!! This is a must read! Curl up by the fireplace with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and you won’t be able to stop!
three hunters are out hunting in the Montana wilderness and come across a plane that had crashed.
What they find inside that plane causes all three men to make some really poor decisions . The three men are having some serious financial problems and they make a choice that they think will help them. But what they soon discover is more than what they bargained for. What would you do if you came across a plane crash and what you found inside could change your live would you risk it? Knowing what’s inside someone is probably looking for also? The author Mike Bond brings you along an adventure that will have you guessing and shaking your head with disbelief what a thrilling story.
The is is my first book by this author. The story is fast based action and a bit far fetched. Overall an enjoyable read.
Thank you Netgalley for providing a copy of Snow by Mike Bond in exchange for my honest review.
The novel follows the experiences of an American journalist, Ian, who finds himself caught in the midst of a dangerous conflict as he tries to uncover the truth behind a series of brutal killings. Bond skilfully weaves together political intrigue, cultural insights, and personal struggles, making Snow a multi-layered and immersive read.
The characters in the book are well-developed and relatable, each with their own motivations and complexities. As Ian navigates the challenges of reporting in a war-torn country, readers are taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, ranging from tension and fear to empathy and hope.
Mike Bond's masterful storytelling and insightful commentary make this novel a must-read for fans of thrillers and those interested in the complexities of global conflicts.
This is like a nightmare story that reminds me a bit of the movie with Russell Crowe, Unhinged. Different plotlines, but in both, relatively regular people make a misguided decision that eventually leads to violence and mayhem. In this story, it's two friends--a retired NFL player and his financial manager--who find a crashed plane full of coke on an elk hunting trip in Montana. Between some bad investments and a bit of a gambling problem, both men realize that won't be able to continue their lavish lifestyles and decide to steal and sell the coke. Things go from bad to worse as chaos ensues.
It's a novel full of action from page one. I was engrossed but was a bit thrown out of the story with some unbelievable moments like one character lifting a woman out of a car after leaving the hospital with a broken arm, both radius and ulnar. I also felt the way certain characters spoke felt contrived. Overall, I'd recommend it for action- or horror-lovers as a quick and entertaining read that brings you into a part of the country you might not often see or experience.
Snow is like a cocaine fueled modern western. It all pops off when some friends out on a hunting expedition discover a crashed plane with tons and tons of Coke in it. They take the powder hoping that they could solve all their life problems with the money they could make from selling it...but is anything involving drugs ever that simple?
This is a fun one! I like that the POV shifts between characters and the writing was engaging and it moved at a good pace. I feel like this is a book that I would enjoy, but also my husband too. Great for bookclub.
3.5/5 rounded up to 4
