When I read the blurb I thought it would give me the same feels as Royally Screwed, but that wasn’t the case. It was okay to me, just okay. I really wanted so much more from this story because I really love me a royal romance. It just didn’t deliver those fuzzy feelings I wanted.
I just couldn’t connect with the characters and the story itself. It seemed really rushed and I actually got a little put off being in Lucien’s point of view.
It didn’t do it for me, but If you're into royalty books still give this a try.
What a surprise. At first, this seemed like it was going to be your typical "royal and commoner" romance, but it was so much more. Hannah's beauty and zest for life attract Luc's attention at first, but it's her character that begins to tug at his heart. Hannah has been through a lot and is still sweet and down-to-earth. Luc has also suffered his share of tragedy and is trying to appease his brother by being a good "spare".
Both characters are likable and keep you interested throughout the story. A good read.
Cannot wait for the next book in the series.
The POV in this book is from the Hero only. While I usually like a dual PVO so that I can get to know the characters, it was still a cute read even though it dragged at some points and sped up quickly in the end.
A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author.I liked this book. It was a little different take on a royal romance. It was fun and had things that could happen in real life. If you enjoy royal romances but should try this one!!
A prince of Monaco is rebelling against the crown by shirking his duties and going barhopping in Las Vegas to find his latest conquest. When he meets her, he has to hide who he is, or risk being exposed to his brother, the new reigning prince, who wants him married off and settled upon his return.
In all due respect to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author, I can’t in good conscience give anything more than a one-star review. The book was full of obscenities, with cardboard characters, and the plot was totally boring and repetitious. I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Luc is the second in line for the royal family of Monaco. His older brother is the Prince (their father & Luc's twin were killed a year ago). His brother wants him to settle down & accept his position. He wants Luc to do as he is doing & find a "suitable" wife to settle down with that's advantageous for their country. Luc does not want what his parents had. He wants to go back to being a military guy without royal responsibilities. His brother sends him to give a speech in Las Vegas & Luc takes full advantage of it. He goes to a bar & ends up meeting Hannah. Her full of life spirit makes him want to get to know her. He doesn't tell her who he really is. They end up hanging out doing crazy things on their dates that lead to romantic liaisons. Then reality intrudes & he's addressed as your highness. Hannah doesn't know what to think.
*SPOILER ALERT
She ends up forgiving him for not telling her that he's a prince. He wants to take her to Monaco so they can get to know each other better because he feels like she's the one. She breaks it off then decided to go with him. We later find out she broke it off because she might have cancer (she does, but it's stage 1 & treatable). I guess the idea for the author was when it rains it pours, but it seemed like a lot of life threatening things happening with Hannah (when she was 16 she almost died in a car wreck, hence the live life to the fullest attitude). Also I guess it was to prove Luc's loyalty to her.
All in all, I liked the story. I wonder if we will get a book about Luc's brother, Sebastien. I think that would be interesting!
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. Bad boy Prince meets pretty American girl. Sounds like a few other books of this genre, except I didn't see Luc as a bad boy prince. I saw Luc as a guy who has had a rough life and doesn't know who he is anymore. This book was told in Luc's point of view and for me I wish it would have been told in either Hannah's point of view of dual point of view so we could understand what was going on in Hannah's mind throughout this book. Hannah seemed to be more of an interesting character than Luc to me.
I'm giving this book 2 stars because I couldn't connect to the characters as much as I wish I could. I felt their romance was rushed too much and the conflicts were too easily solved. I understand rushing some of the romance, but without spoiling it I felt Luc was way more committed to this relationship than Hannah. I will say that the problem that happens to Hannah towards the end of the book was not what I was expecting, but again it was glossed over and bam no more problem. I would have loved to have a second book focusing on Hannah and Luc and facing his brother and mother. I feel this first book should have just been about Hannah and Luc meeting. The author tried to put too much in one book and sadly for me, fell short.
Reluctantly Royal is a quick, easy and entertaining read.
A prince who must take a wife and stop his playboy ways.
An American girl who meets a stranger in a karaoke bar.
Playful banter and unexpected attraction and a royal romance producing a straight out sweet and endearing romance.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Quick, easy, fun read in the “Royal” genre. I enjoyed this one as I haven’t read all that many. I did find this a tad hard to get through as parts seemed to drag maybe it did because it was from the Prince’s POV. There were some lines that were repetitive and overused but it was a nice romance. Even though certain parts of the romance were very typical and and the relationship was realistic it was still an enjoyable novel.
This is a very well-written and entertaining book. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a happily ever after ending with a prince. I am a sucker for a royal romance. That being said, I loved the heroine and hero. I really appreciated the emphasis the author put on the common sense precautions the heroine and her girlfriend took to protect themselves from predators. GOOD FOR YOU! I can't ever remember reading a story that actually gave you tips on how to protect yourselves from unknown persons that you might meet in a bar (or other settings) and wish to spend time alone with (date/hook up). Because you never know if the guy is a prince among men or a frog.
Liked the characters and of course the cover will be what captures everyone's eye! Great escapist read and who doesn't have a the dream to meet the handsome prince? Would like to read the brother's story too.

I have always enjoyed royal romances, so when I saw this one on NetGalley, I knew I wanted to read it. This was my first Gillian Archer book and I enjoyed it.
Prince Lucien Grenier thought he was in a good place in his life. He was in the military and living life the way the wanted to while his family kept the crown going back at home in Monaco. Unfortunately about a year earlier, Luc's life got turned upside down when his father and twin brother were killed in a plane crash meaning that he was suddenly the next in line to the throne behind his older brother. Luc is sent to Las Vegas on the orders of his brother the crown prince and instead of sticking strictly to the agenda set forth by his brother, he decides to take a detour to a karaoke bar.
Luc ends up meeting Hannah, who is a local and has no idea who he is. They end up spending time together and it becomes clear very quickly that they are attracted to one another. They go quickly from acquaintances to more and while Luc definitely wants to see where things can go, Hannah isn't as sure. She isn't sure they've known one another long enough and also the small fact that Luc lives in an entirely different country also poses a problem.
Will Luc be able to convince Hannah that they deserve a shot or will other issues and circumstances keep them from being together?
I enjoyed this story and the relationship that grew between Luc and Hannah. Was it fast? Yes, in the real world things would never move that quickly, but in the book world, anything is possible and I still very much enjoyed the book. It was a nice escape for a few days while I was reading.
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Royal romances are not my favorite trope but I can honestly say that I did like this one, it just didn't wow me. Luc and Hanna meet under the pretense that he is just a normal man in Vegas when he is anything but normal. There is an instant attraction but going from that to love was a bit quick it seemed to me. It's a sweet story and I do like how it is Luc doing the convincing to give them a chance because it made him more honest and attainable.
As with most relationships, theirs is not perfect and does take a bit of work to find their happily ever after but that made it a bit more realistic.
This was my first Gillian Archer book and I would read more.
This was a good story. Prince Luc was the heir to the throne since his brother had recently took the throne when his father and twin were killed in a plane crash. This was something he didn't want to do and tried his best to remove himself from it. On a trip to Las Vegas for his brother, he met Hannah at a karaoke bar and was enchanted. He thought she would make a good distraction for the week, but quickly started having more feelings for her. After news of their relationship get out, they flee home to Monaco. His brother was not receptive and things quickly escalated to make Hannah want to go home. Lots of drama and medical issues. This story kept me hooked from the very beginning. I do like this author. I got this book from Netgalley for an honest review
Such a sweet story about following your heart and giving someone a chance. I loved Luc and his romantic heart and tenacity. Hannah confused me a little with her outgoing personality just timid nature. I can understand based on her background, but it was a little confusing when it arose. Overall though, a fun book to read!
A quick, fun, Las Vegas/Royal story. Not what I expected on some aspects, wonderful on others, but a tad slow to get going (a bunch of repeated facts).
Hannah is a girl that is fed up with her job as a hairdresser. Luc is the third born son to the Prince of Monaco. Then life throws him into being the "spare". His oldest brother the new Prince sends him to Vegas to give a keynote speech to bring in more business to their land. On Luc's first night out he meets Hannah, who is out at the bar with her friend.
There are a good bit of funny times, The sexy times are fabulous. There were even parts where tears ran down my cheeks.
I enjoyed this book, though I wish I had gotten to be in the head of both protagonists. The male POV alone was annoying at times, and I wish there'd been a POV to balance him out. The writing quality could have been better, but I'll let that slide since it was an ARC.
Very cute romance! It was believable and had a twist that I didn’t seem coming with her being sick. I liked both families.
So this book didn’t rank up there on my expectation scale. By reading the blurb, I thought it was going to be one of those books where sex is prevalent and the plot is nonexistent. Well, color me surprised because Reluctantly Royal wasn’t that. Nope, not at all. This book had a depth to it that I wouldn’t guess from reading the blurb. What I also liked is that Reluctantly Royal was told only from Luc’s viewpoint.
Reluctantly Royal starts off with His Royal Highness Prince Lucien being called back to Monaco. That was at the request of his brother, Sovereign Prince Sebastien. The Sovereign Prince is getting engaged and he expects Luc to do that same. In that same conversation, Sebastien asks Luc to take over his duties at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. Luc reluctantly agrees to go. He decides that if he is going to be in Las Vegas, then he needs to live it up. He goes to a local karaoke bar and meets Hannah. Expecting their relationship to last a week, Luc is surprised when he starts to fall for Hannah. Luc hasn’t exactly been truthful with Hannah. He hasn’t told her who he was. But Hannah has secrets of her own. It is those secrets, once revealed that rocks Luc’s world.
I felt awful for Luc. He was reeling from the death of his twin brother and father the year before. The grief that was portrayed affected me so much that I actually got teary-eyed when Luc talked about his twin, Julien. I also felt awful about his alienation from his family. He felt that he was to blame for Julien’s death. It didn’t help that his mother would burst out into tears when she saw him. It also didn’t help that Bastien treated Luc like he wasn’t capable of making his own decisions.
I could understand Luc’s reluctance to go to Las Vegas. All Luc wanted, since his brother’s death, was to be a normal guy. To blend in with the other people and not to have security up his butt all the time. To be the keynote speaker at the Expo was the opposite of that. When he gets there, he finds out that his brother has him meeting with interested parties who want to do business with Monaco. Luc flips out and I don’t blame him. So when he meets Hannah, he thought that he could be a foreign tourist hooking up with a hot American. What he didn’t expect is to actually fall for her.
I liked Hannah and I thought she had a great sense of humor. The official first date that she picked out with Luc was a museum of porn. My only issue with her is that she was almost a pushover. She would get ripping mad at Luc and then stop. A couple of times she actually went to leave and she stopped when he showed up. Other than that, I loved her. I thought that she was perfect for Luc. She grounded him.
The sexual tension between Luc and Hannah was immediate and thick. I like that the author chose to not to have them have sex right off the bat. Instead, they waited. There were a few close encounters. One in the porn booth (you need to read the book!!) and the other in the indoor carnival. So when they actually had sex, it was explosive. And every single sexual encounter after that was the same way.
What sold me on the book was that the author didn’t end the book with Luc and Hannah having sex or with them moving to Monaco. Instead, she added another layer with Hannah’s big secret and Luc’s dysfunctional family. It made the book more relatable to me.
The ending was your typical HEA but it did have a few heart-wrenching scenes thrown in. The epilogue was fantastic. I am looking forward to reading Bastien’s story!!
Reluctantly Royal was a great read. It had a good plotline with relatable characters. I also liked that it was told only from Luc’s viewpoint. I haven’t read a lot of books where the author does that and it was refreshing.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex, language, and mild violence

Quite the Royal Affair. Cute Saucy romance. Not at all what I was expecting.
