I loved reading this book! This is the 2nd spin off series, the 3rd series overall in the Sea Haven universe. While it isn't my favourite of her writing-Reaper makes 2 really bad decisions with Anya-it still was a really amazing book!
We had Czar's book as the soft introduction to these characters, but we didn't meet all of them. And not all of them are in this book, beyond being name dropped. I think there's about 18 of them, so it would be kinda impossible for all of them to have significant screen time!
I would not want to be in the biker world. Sure, Torpedo Ink has their two female members, but that's because they were part of the group of kids. Which will probably become a complication in a future book, since there was a potential couple with a guy from another club.
The bad guys in this book, they used blackmail and leverage and never truly got their hands dirty. They weren't taken down in this book, but they were knocked down a few pegs. Which means they won't be coming after the good guys, if they could find them! But they'll be a future bad guy to face!
This book was a great official start to this book, and I can't wait for the sequel, Something Road!
As much as I adore Christine Feehan's works , I felt that this book was a lot of sex with intervals of events happening around the couple. There were some moments where I felt that I was getting to know the couple but was transitioned to them either having sex or the need to complete some event in the story. The couples problems never really seemed to be resolved and seemed more to be dictated by one partner rather than an understanding developing. I understand that the male lead had traumatic things that may have led to him having trouble understanding how relationship works but the female lead, only protested more in her mind than in action. Only a couple of times did she really speak up but then it went right back to the way it was. It was mainly the male lead having a noticeable character development and the female lead kind of moseying along until she had to make a big decision. I felt that there could have been more to this story and would only recommend this book for those who need a bit of smut to escape their everyday life.
Loved it. You've already seen/shared our interview. I don't even know if filling this out matters, but I'm just closing the loop.
Christine Feehan never fails to deliver a great book and this one is a winner all around. Sea Haven is a home to an assortment of characters and Torpedo Ink motorcycle club fits right in. I will say it helps if you have read the previous 2 or 3 books otherwise you may be a little confused. I really liked Anya and found Reaper to be rough but totally smitten with Anya. Couldn't stop reading it.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This is not a warm fuzzy romance set in an MC and while there is a great romance, there is also a background of assassins who were raised in a brutal school. The few children who survived the dangerous training bonded together and will probably never lead a normal life.
Reaper sees Anya and knows that she is a danger to his emotionless life and wants to get rid of her at the bar. They have a long way to go when they give in to their attraction. With his background, Reaper knows that he is a danger and you just think that he would never hurt Anya but his fears come true.
Even though that is a sad part of the book, there is an even more painful part to read when the club wants to question Anya and uses pretty pervasive techniques and she feels like her trust in them is betrayed. That was a hard section to read.
Throughout the book, Reaper and his "family" support and rely on each other. I don't think that they could be apart! Unfortunately, two of his brothers lead Reaper into a situation that is so so wrong.
There is lots of action in the book as they are dealing with other clubs and help get two women back from the Ghost club. It was so much fun to watch these guys and women in action as they put their training in action. I sure hope that there will be more books in this series, as there seem to be so much more waiting to happen!
Feehan has done an interesting job with this one. It is technically the first book in the series, though there are characters from her other series that are also in this book. It is a great start and it will be interesting to see where she goes with this series.
Personally, I thought this book was a nice introduction to a new series. It has made me anxious for the next installments. At times, this book was funny, heartbreaking, annoying, fun, action-y, and sexy; it was the whole rainbow of emotions, which is something I am always looking for.
I have read reviews where readers are complaining about a particular scene, but I would not let this define the whole book. While I was not happy about what happened, I understand it was a pivotal point in the book that influenced a lot of what happened next.
Judgement Road in the beginning of the Torpedo Ink Series, which explores the lives of men and women who were originally introduced to readers in Bound Together, book 6 of the Sister’s of the Heart series when Viktor (Czar) came back to Sea Haven to claim his wife, Blythe. In Judgement Road we are introduced to Reaper, the club enforcer and assassin who struggles with his sudden attraction to the Club’s new bartender, Anya Rafferty. He is instantly drawn to her joyful and caring personality and wants to protect her, but fears that his experiences and personal demons from the past would destroy her. Anya is on the run, hiding, and living day by day. She is drawn to Reaper but his hot and cold attitude leaves her confused and struggling with her own personal issues. As Reaper and Anya struggle to make it work, her secrets catch up with her, and Reaper will have to make a choice- Anya or his club. Can their relationship survive his decision? Will they survive when enemies begin closing in?
Another great book for the beginning of another great series. Christine Feehan has done it again. I have read and loved every book from all of Feehan’s book series, however, Judgement Road is now my all time favourite. I love that the book takes place in Sea Haven, home of the Drake Sisters and Sister of the Heart Series, and I especially love that we continue to see several of the much love characters from her previous books
I loved that all of Christine Feehan’s characters have strong personalities, especially the women. I LOVE that they give as good as they get. Her stories are about overcoming life’s worst experiences and the everyday struggle to make a better life. I love that both the hero and heroine have worked hard to overcome their own struggle, but I especially love that together they become something so much stronger. I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Torpedo Ink characters.
I received an ebook copy of this book from the Berkley Publishing Group for an honest review.
If you are a fan of PNR then you have definitely heard of Christine Feehan. Her name is synonymous with the genre and she has many series that span many years. I’ve never read one of her books because I hate jumping in at the middle of a series and the first books in those series seem so long ago that I never want to pick them up. Judgment Road is the first book in her new Torpedo Ink series so I jumped at the chance to read it.
This book is darker and grittier than I expected it to be, but I liked that it went in that direction. I’m usually sensitive to violence, but it fit with this book. I will say that there are multiple triggers (so many I couldn’t possibly remember them all) but abuse of all kinds is rampant in their pasts. Reading this book made me wish that I had read more of her work (especially Blythe’s story) but I didn’t ever feel like I had missed something needed for the plot. Just that I want to know more about these characters in any way possible.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit, and I can definitely see why shes a constant favorite in the PNR genre. I will be going back to read some of her older books so I can enjoy more of her writing. Lucky for me there are dozens of books to get through before I’m caught up on her.
Author Christine Feehan caught my interest when I read They Twilight Before Christmas in the Drake Sisters Series, so I was glad to get the chance to revisit the area with her book Judgement Road. Christine Feehan takes us back to the Sea Haven area with her new book and series about a very unique, dangerous & very steamy motorcycle club called Torpedo Ink with some added humor as well. Judgement Road gives the reader incite into the world of what a unique family life is like for a group of 18 and how they feel about each other and each has a unique ability. I'm looking forward to the next installments in the Torpedo Ink series of books and wondering who's story is next!!! We meet the President Czar his wife Blythe and 4 children, VP Steele. Members: Twins Ice & Storm, & sister Alena, Player, Preacher, Keys, Maestro, Code, Ink and Lana 2 newly patched members and 2 prospects, along with their 2 Enforcers and Protectors brothers Savage & Reaper, the lead Enforcer. Each member is trained in lethal skills in their own right due to their past at the same school in Russia. Czar has lead them from the beginning days at the school, moving them to the Sea Haven area a few years ago. Where with the help of 5 women and the county sheriff helped them foil a human trafficking ring. There is a slight mention of the Drake Sisters who started the Sea Haven series. Judgement Road focuses on Reaper and the new bartender at the Torpedo Ink's bar. Anya has come to Caspar running from danger. Reaper can't stop thinking about and wanting her but knows he can't have her because of his past. Anya is also attracted to Reaper and want just 1 night of wild hot sex with him because she's not sticking around. Anya is living out of her car in a secluded camp site, which isn't a stretch from how she grew up. Reaper has been keeping an eye on her since she became their new bartender. Knowing how is makes him feel he wants her gone. Coming back from a run Reaper is conflicted because he thinks Anya is gone but yet didn't want her gone and that confuses him. When he realizes Anya isn't gone he's angry and lashes out at Czar because he didn't do the one thing that was asked of him. Anya over hears the conversation and tries to push Reaper. All the club members witnessing the situation are shocked when Anya touches him and doesn't end up dead because almost NO ONE can touch Reaper without dyeing. When there is some trouble in the bar and it spills over to after Anya leaves, Reaper comes to her rescue and then brings her back to the club house and their relationship starts. Because of his past Reaper can't have her touch him so they have to figure out inventive & steamy ways of having sex. Anya tries to leave after that first time but is brought back. She can't figure out Reaper's responses to her until some of club members and Blythe talk about the clubs members past. The club comes to the conclusion that Anya maybe a spy for a group called the Ghosts so they interrogate her putting a wedge between her and the club and especially Reaper. The club also brings Anya into their family. To show Reaper how she feels about him Anya has a tattoo put around her wrists and then later has the same type of tattoo over his heart. Reaper tells her part of his past but when he accidently hurts Anya in his sleep she calls in the club to stop him from leaving putting a wedge between them. Ice & Storm come up with an idea to help Reaper with his problem of having Anya touch him during sex that Anya walks in on and tries to leave. This brings out the whole club to protect & help stop Anya from leaving. Reaper tells her the complete truth about his past and they try Anya's idea of her touching him. Little by little this seems to work. They will still have their bad times but they will find to work them out as long as they tell each other the truth. Anya decides that she wants to help Blythe with being the one the help the members to integrate into life because they've never had the experience., after hearing about their past Also there is still the threats connected to the gang's activities and their enemies like the Ghosts and their main mission which is to save abused children from the ones abusing them.

Triggers: Mental/physical/sexual abuse of children -- all related as memories of the past..
There are lots and lots of triggers in the book, and it’s not for the faint of heart. If you can handle the triggers, you will not be disappointed.
This book takes you through a myriad of emotions, from happy to sad, thoughtfulness to sadness, to violence and regret.
Each character that we meet is flawed in some way, and those flaws are described in such a way that the horror of their past is shown in a brutal way that explains those flaws.

This is an exciting start to a fabulous new series. I have to admit that I expected another formulaic biker series, so the complexity of the characters and their stories was a welcome surprise. This first book focuses on Reaper, the MC’s enforcer, and Anya, a bartender with secrets. Reaper and Anya’s story is a dark and gritty emotional ride, but it is also full of fast-paced action scenes.
Torpedo Ink is more than a motorcycle club. In this story, the power plays between MCs are familiar tropes, but the club members’ secret childhood in Russia and the special abilities of each member are pretty original. The backstory is ugly and gritty and there’s an intriguing hint of the supernatural that isn’t fully explained in this first book.
Some of the themes in this book are pretty dark and much of the emotional focus is on the repercussions of childhood trauma and abuse. The descriptions of physical and sexual abuse are graphic and unflinching. While some of the issues are resolved a little bit too easily, I really appreciated the honest look at the ways childhood abuse can impact men in their adult lives. Because of the issues, there probably isn’t quite as much sex as I’ve come to expect from biker romances, but there are some very erotic scenes and great chemistry between Reaper and Anya.
I think my favourite thing about this book is the strong women. There are two female members of Torpedo Ink and their unique skills are valued by the club. Anya is a strong character and she meets Reaper as an equal partner.
Rough, brutal and intense are three words that come to mind when trying to describe the reading experience of JUDGMENT ROAD. It has an outrageous premise that the reader is expected to buy into, of the horrific past of the members of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club, but what I could see for a lot of people is that it would just be too much to take in a romance novel.
This is definitely a motorcycle romance - paranormal romance, not so much. If JUDGMENT ROAD is a lake, then the paranormal aspects of the novel are about a cup of water. First off, you get about a quarter into the book before any paranormal aspect is even mentioned, and the various talents of the members of the club that make up the paranormal aspects felt like an afterthought to give the book the paranormal label.
Putting those things aside, I did enjoy the characters. Anya is a strong, independent woman who has some trauma but not too much in her past (Reaper has the monopoly on trauma in this book). Her reactions to things made sense and I liked that about her character. Reaper...well, he was hard to love, but eventually I came around.
My problems with the book stem from the ridiculous backstory that Feehan has built for the members of the motorcycle club - they grew up in a spy school in Russia where unspeakable (but frequently mentioned in the book) things happened on a regular basis - and from the fact that it was billed as a paranormal romance where there is little paranormal to be found. If this was sold as a regular contemporary romance, minus the minuscule paranormal aspects, I think I would have been much better prepared and enjoyed it some more.
Christine Feehan is as talented as it gets! Every character she crafts is so tangible, with all the vulnerability you expect in any human being and so much more strength than you can imagine. I've read the entire sea Haven, Drake Sisters, and Ghostwalker series so believe me when I say, this last series from Feehan brings all the goods! Even better it allows us to stay plugged-in to the Sea Haven characters.
If you love intense drama, engrossing characters and hot romance you can not go wrong with Judgement Road. Honestly, even if these things aren't quite your cuppa, read this and you'll realize that you just never read them done right. I can't recommend this read and this author highly enough.
I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"Judgment Road" is a spinoff of Christine Feehan's Drake Sisters/Sea Haven series, involving the motorcycle club introduced in the last Sea Haven series book. If you're a reader familiar with any of Feehan's work, you'll know what you're getting into here. If this is your first, there are a few things you should know:
-While it's not absolutely necessary to read the previous series to read this one, it certainly helps to lay the groundwork.
-Feehan pretty much only writes Alpha heroes
-There is a lot of possibly triggering content that's mentioned or alluded to in her stories
-If you're looking for healthy relationships, that's not really what you're getting with her books
-That being said, Feehan is excellent for an engaging read
"Judgment Road" does not stray far from Feehan's typical formula, but it's an enjoyable read. It certainly feels fresher than the Sea Haven series, and it introduces an interesting array of characters. The love story is serviceable, and it has a few really great moments of angst that don't feel contrived for angst's sake. The story is compelling and emotional, and for longtime readers, you see a few familiar faces!
Overall, it's a great start to a new series, and I'll be looking out for the next one!
This book was amazing. Completely over the top alpha hero, action-packed, a really compelling cast of damaged wounded characters trying to find love. I loved the heroine, Anya, who is strong and willing to fight for what she needs from Reaper. Just one of those gut-punching, tortured books that we all need every once in a while. Completely engrossing.
I really don’t care for MC books but I jumped into this one because it was from Feehan. I don’t like the way the H is talking about his h right now. I know he’s in denial of his feelings but it still reeks of disrespectful to me. I’m not officially quitting just putting it down for an undetermined amount of time.
JUDGMENT ROAD is a dark, serious read that hits on horrors that should never touch an adult let alone children. The past is something no would should dwell on but what was done to these men and women when they were children cannot be forgotten. They are all living and learning to adjust to being free, dealing with society for as one of the women stated they were all taught to have sex in every way imaginable, and kill in as many ways, but there were no lessons on relationships. This, of course, does lead to a number of embarrassing moments for those dealing with this group.
There are a few lighter moments especially those dealing with Czar (the president of the club, Viktor Prakenskii) and the club members climbing in windows disturbing him and his wife, Blythe, who can't seem to get them to knock on doors. I liked the way they do try to talk things out to understand what should be done, but sometimes the blind leads the blind right into some major trouble. In this case, Reaper seeks help with a problem and almost loses Anya. I think it good that Anya sees Reaper for the man he is, and not the man his upbringing tried to make him be, and in Anya, Reaper sees hope something he has only had with his "family." Their romance is rocky as the members of the club try to help with their questionable social skills.
If you enjoy dark, serious storylines, but one that has plenty of steamy and sweet, funny, and the much needed righteous feel of good kicking butt then JUDGMENT ROAD is a must read.

Judgment Road is a departure from the typical Feehan story. Departures aren’t a bad thing, as long as the journey doesn’t ruin the final destination. In this case, for this reader at least, it did. Motorcycle c,u s are the new rage among romance writers. Some do it well. Some are still learning. Some should stick with what they know and write well. This reader has long been a fan of Ms Feehan, but the recent stories have left me longing for something else.
Judgement Road is crazy sexy. The characters are well defined and the story very intense. I liked Reaper and Anya. I liked this book but I didn’t love it. More than once I double checked that it was the first book in the series. The story with Czar and his family was so spelled out that I felt like I’d missed their book. The elements for a good story were all there; plenty of personal interaction, the misunderstood bad boy biker and an intense ongoing situation that the club and Anya are both coincidently involved in.
The story was authentic in that it didn’t try to sugar coat the biker life. These weren’t outlaws trying to go into legal activities like so many of these type books. Reaper was also authentic because a few days or weeks of interaction with Anya didn’t suddenly take away all his demons and make him a perfectly functioning human and boyfriend.
I struggled with the amount of sex. I like a sexy book but several of these scenes seemed to add very little to the story. I felt like I had to get through them to get on with the story. The sex was often gritty and unpleasant too.
Feehan writes welland she creates a good story but the book didn’t wow me.
Love, family, is worth the struggle…
It is always a red banner day when a new Christine Feehan title hits my kindle! I know I’m going to be diving into all the things including intriguing characters and an emotional story I can sink my teeth - and heart - into. And my heart was totally invested in Reaper and Anya’s story, a roller coaster ride of discovery and acceptance. Of course, when you are dealing with this group of men and women, including cross-over characters from the Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series, you know there are going to be additional challenges thrown in!
Reaper is an enforcer in the Torpedo Ink MC group of brothers and sisters. It is an incredibly tight-knit family of the heart created by horrific circumstances and loyal to the core. Reaper is steel tough. He will protect his family with everything he has and has no time to smile, to love. When Anya crosses his path he doesn’t know what to do with her, or himself….
“He was so fucked. He had to stay away from Anya Rafferty.”
“He could barely breathe when he looked at her.”
Anya was the complete opposite. She cared about those around her and yearned for family. And love….
“Why would she want the one man who had more issues than she did? And she did want him. Desperately.”
“Her body was going up in flames, but it was her heart that had her worried.”
Reaper was cold as ice but having Anya, keeping her, meant he had to open up, be more. That journey, for both of them, meant revelations, pain and sacrifice – and all of it hard won. From one scene to the next, they were going to be challenged in what they believed in and held true. It was brutal, painful and also hopeful as they knocked down one huge problem after another.
This action and emotion-filled story filled all the nooks and crannies it needed to get me out of a lowly book funk. I’ve already re-read this again as I read it so fast the first time around I needed to experience it again. I had to enjoy it one more time before shelving it on my “go to/re-read” shelf.
This is new and different to me for Christine Feehan. I have read her paranormal, but this sounded so interesting, I wanted to give it a chance. I was so glad I did. I love MC stories and this was a great one. It is definitely an interesting start to a new series and I am looking forward to reading more. Christine can write all genres and I am there to read it. This was suspenseful and entertaining and definitely left me wanting more.
