When Dx was mentioned in the previous book I must say I was intrigued to see what will happen with him and was expected some great story. Anddd I was completely disappointed. All there is for the story is sex (which BTW is hot and well written), some cooking and talking between Dax and Becca. In all the conversations they have we discover just glimpse of Becca a lot of question remained unanswered and a little bit more than a glimpse about Dax. I miss the quality of the story and something that blows me away while reading and this book did not deliver. Where is the humor side in this book I don't remember that I smiled, not even once.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
What a good book! The story line is original and the characters are great. Becca is great, she is fun and carefree. Two weeks with Dax and her world is turned upside down! Becca's relationship with her brother who also happens to be her boss is a bit strained and his lack of confidence in her shows throughout this story. When Dax come into the picture not only do you see Becca start to believe in herself but you also see her brother make some changes too. Dax is great in this book, he is strong and yet he give Becca exactly what she needs, both in the bedroom and out of it. When Dax is cutting up the fallen tree all hot and shirtless, best part of the book. So hot!!! Loved the ending and to see such great character growth for Becca. Good book!
Dax’s first impression of Becca was definitely memorable. She was outspoken and she had a take no prisoners attitude. She was at a crossroads in her life and she was trying to determine up from down when the handsome blue eyes beckons her closer. She is ready for a change and Dax offers the perfect distraction. Will her life turn around for the better or will she be stuck in an endless cycle of questioning her every thought? Love this series!
God I’m loving this series. Every book is just out of this world fantastic and really hard not to read the whole way through that I’ve lost sleep that I didn’t want to put down this book or miss out on anything. Jessica Lemmon is one of my favourite authors and I love all her books. Her books are a must read/auto click each and every time she brings out a new book. Would totally recommend and tell everyone go get this book and this series it’s just out of this world fantastic.
Overall, an underwhelming read, particularly so when we’re simply taken through a bar hook-up, a lot of flirting and a session in bed thereafter, all within the starting pages.
Without the buildup of sexual tension or even any inkling of where Dax and Becca were going, I couldn’t quite see a direction for the story for the first half of the book, much less a couple with a path ahead of them since all they wanted was one night together.
With a lacklustre meeting, a hookup and inclement weather that forces a pairing together who really shouldn’t be together, the truth is, I was bored. Dax—the older hero who’s gotten his thoughts and convictions straight in his head—chases while Becca gives every excuse to run. And that’s the holding pattern that we see, which made it hard to see the point of their interaction, especially given a flaky female protagonist with a penchant for running away and not grow up.
Admittedly, I do prefer my heroines who dig in, get dirty (and not just in bed) and put themselves out there while holding up their big-girl panties in order to make the big decisions that really matter, so Becca just didn’t do it for me when all we get from her was insecure deflection and frustrating evasion because she simply couldn’t hold anything down, much less admit that she wanted Dax for longer than she thought. Commit-less, rootless and an emotional coward in every sense of the word, Becca’s contrast to Dax is a stark one and Jessica Lemmon’s attempt to bridge this gap through the slow revealing of their personal histories past the sex merely seemed to show how ill-suited they were for each other past their bedroom antics.
Somehow, ‘Man Candy’ reads like a story that I’ve come across elsewhere a hundred times—even role-reversal stories where the female protagonist only wants temporary arrangements are dime a dozen. While there is a huge amount of flirtation, scorching sex (which is never the problem in romance books anyway), I pretty much struggled with the lack of depth and the predictability in this book, as well as with a pairing forged by lust and not too much else.
The third in a series, Man Candy tells the story of Dax. Dear Dax that has some issues going on and just wants to escape. What he finds is an unexpected turn of events that takes a one night stand to a deeper relationship no one was expecting or wanting. We get a hint of characters from books in the series, but it's not until the end that brings them back into the picture. The group has more stories to tell and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
This series has been a fun read! The latest installment is no different. A woman who is a runner and a man who likes staying? What a perfect match-up! Man Candy will have you on the edge of your seat, rooting for Dax and Becca! (Also, steamy affair in the Tennessee mountains? Yum!)
Dax and Becca are so perfect together. I really enjoyed how Dax never pressured Becca into anything. Becca always had the reins in the relationship. Even when it was only to be a one night stand and then it turns into something neither are looking for, will they go with it or will they run from their feelings?
Becca takes notice of a hot guy sitting at the bar and she's overwhelmed with the attraction she has to the man. But at the same time her brother is trying to fire her from her job. She's use to her brother thinking little of her. So she's not surprised now and gets swept away by the gorgeous man.
Dax can't believe that the guy is talking to his employee that way. He shouldn't be making a big scene in the bar like he is. However he then notices the woman walking his way. And in no time Dax and Becca are heading to his cabin.
Dax is ok with a one night stand. That's all he's looking for. But Becca is unlike any woman he's ever met. And besides he's only here on vacation for two weeks.
Hugely enjoyable romance. At first glance I was convinced I was going to find the heroine Becca annoying. She appears to be a 'free spirit' aka feckless and a user. As the story unfolds she begins to develop into a much more interesting and rounded character. When she is given encouragement and support she really begins to flourish.
The hero, Dax is so well written, he is sweet whilst also hot and sexy. He recognises that there could be something bigger than a fling, if she'd just believe.
I haven't read anything else by this author but I intend to now.
Interesting and entertaining story that kept me guessing as to what would happen next. When I can read a book and wonder what might happen, what the characters and thinking and what has happened in their life to define their actions then it's usually a hit with me. Man Candy was exactly that.
I got about 50% of the way through the book, but then stopped. Nothing was wrong with the writing-- it was good. Nothing was wrong with the love scenes-- they were good. I just didn't really like the lead female character. I'm not the most moral and upstanding person, and don't usually judge, but I just couldn't get behind her having a one night stand hook up where her brother could see and where she worked just because she didn't want to go back to her brother's house to sleep. Seemed a little sleazy. I couldn't possibly see how the lead male character thought she was a "strong female" when she would do that. Talk about poor judgement!
What happens when your night one stand because your 2 weeks fling? That is the story of Dax and Becca. Sax is looking to get away in the woods. He wants to fish and be alone. Then, he meets Becca, who works at the place he is visiting. All that goes out the window when he meets this crazy and sexy girl who makes everything better.
Dax has been driving the loss of his dad and not feeling much of anything. Becca seems to change of all that. But neither of them sees this relationship going anywhere since they live so far apart. Neither of them can deny they feeling. But Das wants more and Becca is a runner. Can they find a common ground before their 2 weeks is up?
Man Candy, A Real Love Novel, Jessica Lemmon

Genre: Humour, romance
A quick fun read this, packed with some terrific humour.
I adored Dax, a real Gentleman in every sense. He was incredibly patient with Becca, when she was so changeable it was hard to keep up. I loved the way he ran his businesses, trusted his friends, made his life and lifestyle sync seamlessly. He's on a short break, and the weather is - well, frankly, just dire. Does he moan, complain, whinge about how unfair it is? Nope, just gets on with what he can in his own steady way.
Becca annoyed me a bit, well, quite a lot actually.
We first meet her when she's late for work. Work at a job her brother has given her, the same brother that's letting her life with his family as she has nowhere else. You'd think she'd make the effort to at least be on time, but it seems lateness and Becca run hand in hand. So yes, she did get the work done, she was good at what she did but - he's running a business, and she should respect that. Seems for her its always somebody else' fault.
I didn't really understand why she was so hot-cold-hot with Dax either, she doesn't know what he wants, but she doesn't know what she wants either, and the poor guy is supposed to just guess?
Still, there were some seriously sensual scenes between them and some fantastic humour which kept the novel up for me.
Stars: three and a half, a fun read, but not a re-reader for me.

Interesting and entertaining story that kept me guessing as to what would happen next. When I can read a book and wonder what might happen, what the characters and thinking and what has happened in their life to define their actions then it's usually a hit with me. Man Candy was exactly that.
Dax is definitely sexy Man Candy but also shows a sweet, sincere and loving side. Being burned can char you but it doesn't have to incinerate you. Dax has been burned but he still is open to the possibilities that meeting Becca while vacationing in the woods for two weeks. Becca comes off as scattered, ditsy or lackadaisical. but that's a facade she presents after being constantly barraged by the negativity and lack of support from her brother who is her current boss and landlord. Becca is full of self-doubt. and on a constant quest to fill a void she feels in herself. Encountering Dax in the resort bar, Becca's instant attraction leads her on a two-week fling with a man who unearths things she tries to hide and challenges her in ways she has never been challeneged before.
These two have such a sweet and sexy relationship that you immediately want them to have more, well have everything. Dax is a strong and self sufficient man and see that Becca needs a gentle touch so as to not scare her away. When things start to get real Becca again, as usual wants to bolt. Calming her fears, Dax hands over the reigns of their relationship and lets Becca take the lead to do as she wishes. Becca flourishes with the attention and praise and belief in herself that Dax gives her, but she always has the doubt and devil in her ear telling her how aloof she is and reaffirming that self-doubt.
Dax is such a great book boyfriend and to see him leave the resort after two weeks was heartbreaking. What is Becca thinking! But if you love something you set it free - are Dax and Becca meant to be? What a great ending and amazing epilogue!
4 stars.
One night stand turned into 2 week fling?, then eventual perfect happy ending.
Dax and Becca's story was an emotional read for me. This book just had lots of complexity to it.
It was witty, very sexy and I wanted to keep on reading, page after page. I really enjoyed how this book was written as well as the storyline. I also liked how the connection continued to blossom between the MC's despite Becca's attempts to try and keep Dax at arms length, therefore avoiding any deep emotional attachment or commitment.
Absolutely loved this book and found myself smiling frequently while reading.
This is the third book in the "Real Love" series and each book has eclipsed the last.
If there is a book four. I will have very high expectations for it indeed.
Dax was great! Becca was flakey! I enjoyed this story but in the end, all I could think about was whether Becca could actually settle down and be happy long term. I wasn't convinced she was capable but it was a cute story regardless.
Dax is on vacation staying at a cabin campground and looking forward to some alone time. Becca's a free spirit who doesn't want to settle down in one place or with one person.. She's working for the campground owner, her brother, for now but isn't sure what she's going to do next. One look at Dax, sitting at the bar in the campground restaurant, and it's lust at first sight. A one night stand turns into weeks of red hot passion and Dax and Becca have to decide where they go from here. I loved this book!
