Code of Honor is the 4th title in the Hornet series. There's a good mix of romance and action that kept me entertained. It was also a quick read.
3.5 stars for Code of Honor

It was a fun read as long as I didn’t think too much about what dumb asses the bad AND good guys were. I skimmed over most of Jesse’s suddenly debilitating PTSD (same story-lines for the H’s in books 1-3) and most of Jesse and Lanie’s relationship (2nd chance romance but he’s been married 3 times). The bad guy could’ve easily gotten what he wanted by walking up to the woman without ever leaving home. But that wouldn’t be fun without an aging team of bad guy mercenaries, a premature kidnapping, hostages, and bumbling good guys who aren’t the best decision makers when getting shot at... and all to find one unaware and unassuming woman (she's the h in the next book). I do think this team should look for recruits who already have combat experience or any useful experience like Call of Duty. They weren’t real helpful.

The series feels disjointed now. Basically, Gabe (book 1) and Quinn (book 3) are being sent to the old folks home as early as the 4th book and just as the guys were coming together as a team. Now Jesse will go to med school and Jase the pilot is only mentioned twice (same in the next book). It’s losing a connective feeling with a team that was slow to gel. Book 1 was written in 2013 so maybe the overall direction for the team and ideas has changed over the 6 years she’s written books 1-5?

All that to say, I did enjoy this story. The bursts of action had me engaged. I liked Jesse’s son, Connor, and am looking forward to seeing him grow up. Jean-Luc was interesting and I’m looking forward to more depth from him and Marcus. Ian had some very good scenes.

This was such a fun and action filled story.

Here we meet Jessie, a kickass medic who, after a traumatic incident, is left with no desire to keep practicing medicine and fearing his next move might hurt his team. My heart broke for him, what he saw and had to do left him with deep scars and I so wanted him to heal.

Throw in the there that now he has to take care of a teenage son and his attraction to a woman joining the team and is kickass at it, and the guy is about to explode, lol.

We also meet Lanie, this kickass woman who is also trying to find her place in this man’s world. I loved her, I loved that she showed no fear when she needed to but was vulnerable at times.

I loved these two, such a great complement to each other. And when the real action started, oh boy, buckle up.

It was a super fun read!

I enjoyed this series and this is book 4 of the Hornet series - it starts off kind of slow and it stays that way throughout but picks up the pace midway through. I think I enjoyed the first 3 books better than I did this one but I can't really fault the book because I was in a mood. I went back this weekend and read it and actually enjoyed it a little better.

Jesse is the HORNET medic who has saved the life of several members of the team but he can't get over the death of one of his own and the guilt is eating away at him and knocking his confidence. Throw in the distraction caused by his estranged fifteen year old son coming to live with him, his growing attraction to fellow team member Lanie and his promotion to field commander and something has got to give. Lanie has been friends with Jesse's cousin for years and she fell in love with him when they were still children, he broke her heart when they were teenagers but she's never gotten over her crush on him so working in close contact is torture. When a training mission goes horribly wrong and half of the team end up being taken hostage it's up to Jesse and Lanie to get them all out alive. To do that they have to put their feelings to one side but in a high adrenaline situation things are about to come to a boil.

I've loved Jesse ever since I first started reading the HORNET series so I was really looking forward to his book. He's always been the light hearted joker of the group but recent events have changed him and he just can't get past the fact a team mate died on his watch. It was heartbreaking for all of the team but Jesse has taken it even harder because he just keeps thinking that there should have been something he could have done to save him. He has a history of depression and is close to being dragged back down into a dark abyss by his demons but his son and his team need him so he's trying really hard to fight for them. I really enjoyed the romance between him and Lanie, they have history but it was all fairly innocent so there is no bitterness or sense of betrayal between them - it's all about unexplored lust and long term friendship instead which I loved.

The beginning of this story was a little slower than previous books in the series but that was to give us a chance to catch up with some of the previous couples and to get a feeling for the amount of history there is between Jesse and Lanie. We also get to meet Jesse's son Connor who added an interesting dimension to the story. Once half the team is taken hostage the action takes of at an accelerated pace as Jesse and Lanie work together to try and get everyone to safety. I really enjoyed the suspense side of this story and it's all set to continue straight into the next book Reckless Honor where Jean Luc is set to take the lead.

I absolutely love this author and her books. I know she only has a few out but, HORNET series is so freaking good. You can tell the author does extensive research for her books.

And her plots for these books are awesome. I love me a good romantic suspense book. Tonya's are the best.

Jesse was a good character. I really liked how the author portrayed him and his life. I'm sure lots of people can relate to him and his situation. Jesse kicked ass and I just enjoyed his down to earth character.



Lance is the kind of heroines I like to read about; kickass, can pretty much take care of her self and she doesn't need someone to save her every five minutes. And she still has a vulnerable side that she shows Jesse.

Overall : it's a very good romantic suspense book and a great addition to the series. Loved Jesse and Lanie. And I really enjoyed Lanie with Jesse's son. Right amount of romance to suspense. Plenty of both.

So read for Jean Luc and Ian's books!

While technically this is a suspense romance, it definitely falls more on the suspense side. It’s just stuffed full of danger, intrigue, betrayal – the action pretty much doesn’t stop once it gets started. But there is also the long-held feelings between Lanie and Jesse that need to be addressed, as well as Jesse’s relationship with his son. Thrown in this group of people who have between a family of sorts over the years and the feels just come at you. Well, feels when done by Alpha males which is their own kind of weird thing that works for them :)

I’ll be honest, while this one can technically stand on its own it will definitely be easier to keep up if you’ve read at least Broken Honor. There is just a lot of people and a lot of interactions between them that make more sense if you have some kind of history there.

And you better be ready to hang on to your hats because Burrows gives us one heck of a ride! She got me from the very first page and didn’t let me go until I got to the end. And even then she just teases about what is coming next … I’m so gonna be stalking her until she releases book 5 because I can’t wait to see where she goes from here.

Sit onto the edge of your seat and be prepared to go through every possible emotion as the HORNET crew fights for justice!

Action packed from the first page to the last! A training mission for new recruits, with the bonus of a few extra days at a resort goes terribly wrong for the men and women of Hornet. Emotional and sexy, I couldn't put it down!

Jesse Warwick is the HORNET Team medic who’s struggling with a lot of issues but mainly how to develop a relationship with his 15-year old troubled son, Connor, and how to cope with perceived medical failures in the field. Complicating his life even more is the new addition to the team, Lainie Delcambre, a woman who was part of his past and he can’t keep out of his mind and heart. She’s trying to fit in as the only female in the group.

This story took a while to get going as much time was spent developing these characters in the beginning, despite a great prologue. Though both were in earlier books in the series, Jesse and Lainie weren’t fleshed out much. It was worth the time spent though because when things got crazy, I felt like I knew them so well and could predict their actions. Jesse and Lainie were well suited despite their differences. I also liked how the issues related to her being the only female on the team were portrayed. It was honest without being indicting or whining.

Speaking of action, it was pretty nonstop once the setting shifted to Martinique. It was riveting, heartbreaking and chilling. There was nothing predictable about anything that happened from thereon out. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I’m used to the books in this series being suspenseful but this was so much more. It was breathtaking.

I love this series and really liked this book, even though there were parts that broke my heart. The ending promised at least one more story and that makes me happy. 4.5 stars

Code of Honor is an action-packed romantic suspense. Jesse and Lanie have history. They've known each other for a long time and it hasn't exactly been fairytales and roses for them. So when she's recruited into his team (HORNET), their history makes things even more difficult for the two of them. Jesse's life hasn't exactly gone to plan. He's got ex-wives coming out of his rear, his teenage son seems to hate him, his new recruit is making him uncomfortably aware of her, and he just wants to become a doctor. And then there's the little (HUGE) snafu the team runs into during what was supposed to be just a training mission. A training mission with no live weapons. Yeah...

I really liked Code of Honor. It's got lots of action. The two leads are interesting and likable, especially Lanie, and their chemistry is smokin' hot. Even the secondary cast is interesting and made me want to read the previous stories in this series. I always know I'm going to like a romantic suspense if the action is balanced well with the steam and the emotional, and Code of Honor manages that balance impressively. Even the epilogue, which sents up the next story about the Cajun Jean-Luc, is intriguing and is just daring me to dive into his story. This was my first book by Tonya Burrows. I loved it. There was suspense, romance, and great characters. It had plenty of twists and turns and emotions to keep you into the story. I can't wait to find out more about the Hornet series!

I do like this series and the unusual and broken characters that make up this team. There is always good suspense and intense moments that make the pages turn. I can't really say there is anything that makes this one stand out, or memorable, but it was enjoyable and I do look forward to reading the next addition to the series.

This book started out so good. It grabbed me from the first page. The plot is intriguing and Jesse's son, Connor, is a wonderful study of a 15 year old boy. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the teenage lust but still can't touch as an adult trope that the hero, Jesse, and heroine, Lanie, are caught up in for the first part of the book. I especially hate getting bashed upside the head with it every chapter and sometimes several times during the chapter. Makes me want to practice hurl the book, except I've got a Kindle, but you all know what I mean. But this is an ARC and I committed to read it and I'm very glad I stuck with it because midway through this book it turns into one of the best action, page turners I've ever read. I'm guilty of reading through the night too.

Lanie Delcambre left the Texas Rangers to be part of the HORNET Team. She can't explain it, but it just feels like the right fit for her. One problem. Big problem. Jesse Warwick. He is the one she fell in love with at age 14 and just can't move on from. Now he's her boss and is treating her with kid gloves, preventing her from gaining the respect of the other guys on the team.

The Team had a week long training exercise after which they get a time of R&R at a very posh resort. Things heat up for Jesse and Lanie in more areas than the bedroom when the team lands in the middle of a hostage situation with no weapons of their own.

I was dying for the next installment in the Hornet series and couldn't wait to read it. It was a great blend of romance and suspense. This book doesn't quite stand-alone; readers are thrown a romance that has already started percolating a bit in previous titles. It is cool that it sets up the next book about Jean-Luc. I also thought it was clever for the book to start with the (probable and then confirmed) death of an unknown woman who saves Jean-Luc and not repeat it when it fell in the timeline, but jump and have the reader realize that's what just happened.

This was the first book in the series and the first book by this author that I've read. Boy was it amazing!!

The first chapter pulls you in immediately as you look at the currently situation: two people shot, one close to dying, a man standing over one of them on the phone being told to kill them. How does that not grab your attention?

From there I admit I got a little confused trying to keep track of all the key players. This probably would have been easier if I had read the other books and knew the characters from there. But, it did not take long for me to figure everyone and most of their stories out.

Jesse's story will pull at your heart strings. From his PTSD to his son's behavior to his ex wife to the love of his life.

An amazing story!

If I wasn’t at the edge of my seat, I’m looking for what will happen next, but then again, I didn’t have to wait long between exciting scenes. This book is non stop action from the beginning until the end. From hostage situations to bombs, to gunfights, to the steamy scenes…I devoured every page.

Lanie is now part of Hornet team but seems to be having a hard time fitting in. Perhaps earning respect from the team would help, but for some reason, there is a barrier that’s preventing that from happening. With the hostage situation, Lanie will be forced to take action inadvertently showing her worth. But will it be enough to earn her the respect she deserves? Will she get it from the man she once loved?

While Jesse leads the Hornets, Lanie joining the team was never an issue for him. He already respects her more than she knows. Although, with his past experience with loss, Jesse has become more protective of his crew, that including Lanie and his son which has dampened his relationship with them. He knows he has to work several issues if he wants to make both relationships work. Just like Lanie, he has a few things to sort out before giving himself the freedom to really move on.

It felt like forever since the last time I’ve read this series. And when I checked, the last installment of this series was in 2015. Why Burrows waited so long, I have no idea, but she shouldn’t have waited. As I read my reviews of the previous books, I remembered how good these books are. Honestly, this book is just as good if not better.

I love that Burrows wrote a love story of two people who not only found each other but also pursuing their own dreams. I love that they didn’t have to sacrifice anything for the other because they gave each other a wide berth for growth. Of course, it wasn’t easy for them in the beginning. Trust will be their biggest issue but I assure you they will survive this.

As far as the action and suspense go as mentioned earlier, it’s none stop. I kid you not it was like watching a very good action film. Burrows did a good job in making this book pretty darn exciting. The banters between the guys had me laughing, and Jesse’s relationship with his son was heartwarming. I like that Burrows portrayal of the characters are both kick ass and easy to love.

Next up is the Cajun Hornet, the player of the team, who apparently have been cursed. Poor guy. I have a feeling his story will be very entertaining.

The story starts off oddly, with Jesse cleaning the barn stalls out while his son hides in their home. He recently obtained custody of his 16 y/o son after his ex-wife states she can no longer handle his behavior. Conner resents his parents: his mom for not forcing him to live with his dad, his dad for not being present while he was growing up. Jesse does not know how to connect with his son. Jesse is a medic with "Hornet" a secret contract military operative that takes care of problems the USA military can not. Jesse and his team are about to go out on a training operation in the Caribbean. Unknown to Jesse and his team there is no other operation that is also on the island... to attempt to obtain a new medicine that cures all illnesses. The two operatives must fight each other to see who will win. Jesse and his crew have no guns, or way to get help except through the hotel chain's owner (who is also Hornets owner) and he can not get help to them fast enough. Can these men and one woman win the battle, and save all the hostages? Read the book to find out the fast / exciting conclusion to the story . The only problem I had was the story left me with more questions.

Jesse Warrick and Lanie Delcambre have done everything they can to deny the chemistry that bounces between them, and now, with Jesse being promoted to field commander of HORNET, a relationship between them can't happen. However, when the HORNET team finds themselves in the right place at the wrong time when a group of terrorists take over the island they're staying at, Jesse decides to take a chance. Will they survive the terrorists plot, so they get their happy ever after; or will they're working together prove too much of a distraction and cause them to go their separate ways?

What do you get when Ms. Burrows pens a story encompassing a bunch of terrorists determined to cause lots of destruction, a team of good guys determined to keep everyone safe, and a fast-paced storyline with plenty of action? Well, for me this is a story that was captivating, thrilling and one that took me on an edge-of-my-seat adventure once the terrorists enter the story. The way this story started had me totally hooked by what was happening, as one of the secondary characters knows she's in trouble and it's palpable there's no way she's going to be able to get herself out of it. What will happen to her? Will someone come to her rescue? Will she be able to escape on her own?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after; and it's a story I loved every moment of, most especially once the action started and Jesse's team are in action and strategizing what they're going to do to get the upper hand against the terrorists. Will their plans come to fruition or will they have to work on the fly to combat any problems they face? Moreover, both the main characters made this story fascinating with their back stories and how the heroine challenges Jesse because of their chemistry and the fact that Lanie doesn't need a man to protect her, as she's strong, courageous and has plenty of handy skills to take on bad guys.

While the hero, he's been through a lot in his life. He hasn't been the best father and I liked that he's doing his best to make up for the past. His relationship with his son is complicated, but there's no doubt that Jesse is determined to be there for his son and help his kid combat his troubles. Why is his son acting out? I also liked how protective Jesse is of the heroine, even though she doesn't need to be protected. Not with her ability to think and act quick, which is proven by what she does to help the team win the battle they face against the terrorists. I also liked how tight of a bond the hero shares with his teammates and that he would do anything to keep them safe, which is proven over and over again. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he gave the heroine a chance, even if he's not great at relationships. Then again, it's palpable he's always had feelings for Lanie for almost as long as he's known her.

Overall, Ms. Burrows has delivered a story that kept me entertained from start to finish with its action; wonderful main characters and dialogue; and an ending that has me looking forward to what comes next for HORNET. Will the team be able to help one of the secondary characters that is now on the run? I would recommend Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the friends to lovers trope, or books by authors Lynn Raye Harris, Kaylea Cross, Laura Griffin and April Hunt.

Jesse is the medic on the HORNET team and is always looking after everyone but himself. He is trying to connect with his estranged teenage son by taking him to his ranch, which is located beside the HORNET training centre. Lanie is Jesse's little sister's best friend and is also the newest and only female member of the HORNET team. The sparks have always flown between them, only now they are becoming stronger and they cannot resist each other. After a training session, the team goes on a holiday ... only to find the hotel they are staying at becomes the scene of a hostage situation. 2 female doctors that invented a breakthrough medication that will change lives .... and there are bad people who want it. Jesse and Lanie must work with half of the team to free the rest of their team and other hostages.

This book is fast paced, suspenseful, romantic, steamy and sad ... yeah pretty much all the emotions are in this book. The next book (I presume) is also set up nicely at the end of this book. If you are looking for an action packed romance ... then this is the book to read!
