I Enjoyed Code Of Honor... as I have the previous books in the Hornet series .
A Romantic suspense story by Tonya Burrows is always a story I enjoy, , the characters always keep me invested and her stories are always well written... Jessie & Laines story is no exception.
I love how this author keeps her characters real, they have issues, they have flaws, they argue and bicker etc etc etc but they work. In my opinion it is the characters that the author has created that makes Hornet into a series I love .
Jesse is the medic for the Hornet Team who is finding it harder to believe that he is helping others when all he sees is more death and destruction everywhere he turns. He is also trying to form a relationship with his son, since his ex dropped him off saying he was too difficult, although they haven’t spent much time together.
Lanie was a Texas Ranger but she is tired of how the rules and regulations seem to help the guilty and not their victims. She is hoping that Hornet is a better match however becoming part of the team is proving more difficult than she imagined.
Lanie and Jessie have been friends for years but their attraction to each other is something neither wants or is ready for especially as they are working together. When danger strikes will they and the team be able to work together to bring the crisis to a peaceful end with no casualties?
This story had a chemistry between the two characters, a few twists and a suspenseful storyline. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Code of Honor Hornet Book 4 Tanya Burrows
This book is action from first page to last. It’s exciting, romantic and very suspenseful. The Hornet Team is back!
Jesse Warren, medic for the Hornet Team, is fighting a few personal battles. He recently had his fifteen year old son, Connor, sent to him because his ex wife couldn’t handle him. He’s abrasive, angry at the world, especially his father. The Hornet team is preparing for a training mission to check out prospective team members, and suggest taking Connor along for the experience. He’ll get to see what his dad does besides ranching. Jesse is discouraged because he has filled out multiple applications to medical schools, is qualified, but they all question his “not honorable” discharge from his military service.
Elena Delcambre (Lanie) is Jesse’s neighbor and the only female member of the Hornet team. He’s been desperately fighting his attraction to her and after a tough training week the thought of her in a bikini is making him crazy.
They’ll be headed to an exclusive resort in Martinique for R & R. But this training mission has difficulties of it’s own, starting with Jesse finding himself heading the mission. He’s flattered that they have confidence in him, but has a lot of self doubt. After the mission is completed without major incident, other than exhaustion, multiple insect bites and no one dies, Connor is pretty impressed with his dad.
The beautiful island resort is just what they all need, but several members of the team have an underlying feeling of danger. A Dr. from a medical team is missing, some of the new recruits are acting strangely and one of them in particular has taken a severe dislike for Connor. But, Jessie and Lanie find themselves in each other’s arms after a mind bending kiss. They’re happily ever after is put on pause as sudden serious conflict erupts on the island.
This was an exciting read with danger and romance thick in the air. This fourth in the series can be read as a stand alone, but knowing the history of the men in the Hornets Team make the story that much more enjoyable.
I received this ARC from the publisher and Netgalley for review.

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows is a romance in an action-packed, thrilling roller coaster ride. All the guys and gal are on board along for this book having been part of a training mission early in the story. These are not perfect warriors but living and breathing heroes with regrets, relationship struggles, doubts and unrequited feelings that have lingered for years. The two main characters of this book, Jesse and Lanie have their own unique struggles that enter into their relationship.
The crisis is unique in that it is not a planned mission but one that unexpectantly must be handled. Having few resources do not stop this group nor do they consider walking away. This is one of the strengths of this book, that the suspense and danger make it such a compelling read. I read wanting to see how the HORNETs would pull this off and save the day. The second chance romance was hot, with me hoping Jesse and Lanie would work through their issues. However, it is exciting plot of good guys trying to stop the bad guys that make this a great story.
My only regret is that I started this series with Code of Honor. I think I would enjoy this one even more if I had read the books in order, but that is on me not the author.

Can Jesse slay his demons to save the woman he loves?
Code of Honor is Tonya Borrows fourth book in her HORNET series. I have read two of the previous books so I was able to read this book without any issues.
Jesse Warwick is still dealing with guilt from HORNET's last mission plus his ex-wife has dropped off his son at his ranch with no intention of coming back for him. Because they never have been together for any length of time to say that Connor and Jesse have a strained relationship would be a huge problem. But he's now a Field Commander and has been assigned his former childhood flame, Lanie. Can they keep their work situation separate from their growing attraction to each other?
Lanie Delacambre has fought hard to prove herself as an equal to her bosses first at the Texas Rangers and now at HORNET. But will working with Jesse throw a wrench into proving to Gabe and Tucker she can work as hard as the guys? When they complete their training in Suriname and start their vacation at Tucker's resort turns into a hostage situation can everyone work together and save the guests and agents? When Connor discovers a traitor amongst the trainees will he be able to help Lanie, Jesse and the rest of the team before the Tangos kill everyone?
There is a side story with Dr. Tiffany Peters and Claire Oliver have created a possible serum that could cure all viruses that have been previously resistant to any drugs. Their is a teaser at the end that sets up a story line for Claire and Jean-Luc will be in the next book. All in all I'd give the book a solid 4 star rating and look forward to reading Claire's story next.
Burrows' HORNET series is one I like very much. So I was more than a little excited about getting Code of Honor from Netgalley. It was set up beautifully in Broken Honor which I loved.
Code of Honor has a lot going for it. The intense push-pull between Jesse and and Lanie is especially well done. While I did think they were both overthinking it a lot, once they got going, it picked up nicely. The backdrop of Jesse's relationship with his son Connor was also especially interesting and emotional.
I like Jesse. His character strength and flaw are one and the same: he cares too damn much. And this plays out over and over in the book. Thank you for showing and not telling. As the medic for the HORNET team, and potentially the new leader for ops, he is stuck right in the middle of his worst nightmare when a training mission gets hijacked into a real mission.
Lanie is, well, Lanie. Her combination of brash and sensitive is makes her by turns sweet and fierce. Her overthinking things wasn't just about Jesse but also her place in HORNET as a woman. While my preference is for less of that agonizing in general, it held with her character - especially having seen how she operates in Broken Honor. I loved Lanie's character.
I especially liked getting to see more of Ian, who has been a favorite of mine since I first saw him in Honor Reclaimed. I can't wait for his book because it's going to be *the* book of the series for me. I liked how the next book was telegraphed at the end.
Will I continue this series? You bet! I just wish I felt better about this book.
I would categorize this book as a suspense/thriller with a little romance. This is my first book in this series. It was a good read but would have been much better if I’d read them from the beginning and knew the stories of the other team members.
This array of ex-military is not your typical group. They all have emotional baggage/PTSD as well as physical injuries they are dealing with. They respect each other’s abilities and trust each to have their back. This group of misfits, while not completely liking each other, and a bit dysfunctional, unexpectedly work well together. As I read this story, I kept finding myself wishing I had read them in order so I could understand them better.
The crew unexpectedly finds themselves in the middle of an attempted kidnapping while on their recreational break after training maneuvers. They are unarmed and at a distinct disadvantage. Jesse is the newly appointed group leader and they are looking to him for direction.
Lanie is the newest experienced recruit and someone from Jesse’s past. I struggled to find this pairing plausible. The romance seemed to be thrown in as a sideline. Jesse has been through 3 marriages and Lanie hasn’t found the right one over the last 20 years because they’ve unknowingly been pining for each other? Throw in the struggle Jesse is having with his teenage son, now living full time with him, and he’s got more than his hands full.
This book is well written and flows well. The suspense is action packed. Because of the intense suspense, there really wasn’t time to fully develop Lanie and Jesse.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC for NetGalley and the publisher.
Interesting.
This story started out slow and I wasn’t sure I’d finish it but was glad I stuck with it. Emotional and intense.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
Hornet is back! Tonya Burrows delivers another pulse pounding, adrenaline filled roller coaster ride of suspense and romance in Code of Honor and believe me dear reader this is one ride you do not want to miss.
Fair warning, take a deep breath before you start this book because it will be the last full breath you take till you finish. The action starts immediately and does not stop till you turn the last page drained (good drained) and so ready for the next Hornet book.
NEVER think for an instant that this story will go where you expect it to, NEVER! That’s one of the things I loved about this book to be honest. Just when you thought there was a chance that you can catch your breath, BAM, something new happens and you are off an running again.
I’m going to stay as spoiler free as possible as this is very much a story you need to experience. But what I will say is that be prepared to FEEL ALL THE FEELS. My emotions were dragged all over the place and I am so not sorry for it. I’m not kidding here, one minute you will be swooning, the next holding your breath, then laughing and even shedding a tear or ten over certain events.
Jesse, the team’s medic and hero of this story just about broke my heart more than once while reading this book. This is a man with demons riding his tail and seeing him face his demons while fighting a losing battle over falling for Lanie and saving the day is something that is truly special.
As for Lanie, I love her. Seriously, she is kick ass awesome and watching her come into her true potential in this book just made me love her almost as much as Jesse does. Seeing her fall for Jesse while kicking tango’s ass, priceless.
For fans of the series, yes the other Hornet guys are there. Especially Jean-Luc who just about steals the show for a time. Man I can’t wait to see the crazy Cajun fall. Plus there are more than a couple surprises to keep long term readers happy. But my lips are sealed over what. You need to read it to find out.
That said, while this is part of a series, it can totally be read as a stand-alone. Just be warned that you might become hooked and want to gobble up the other books in the series. Which I for one highly recommend.
Well done Tonya Burrows on another unputdownable Hornet book, one that I’m still processing hours after I finished it, because so much happens that you can’t help but keep thinking of things. Well played, very well played.
4.5☆ I really enjoyed reading Code of Honor and although it was slow to get going. Once the real action started I was soon hooked and at times this story had my heart pounding. As well as keeping me on the edge of my seat. Especially during the initial takeover of the hotel by the baddies, and again later when the team realise they have no choice but to try and rescue the hostages. With very little in the way of fire power and I really had to wonder if everyone was going to survive or whether Jesse and Lanie really would get their happy ever after. As for the revelations near the end and that epilogue. Well they certainly left me excited for the next book in this series. And I'd happily recommend Code of Honor to others.
The HORNET team is back better than ever in this action packed fast paced story. I love these guys and gals, so excited to get Jesse's story. Since the last FUBAR of a mission, Medic Jesse has been struggling with his confidence. Add to that his angry teenage son is now living with him and oh yeah, his lust for Lanie Delcambre is out of control and his life feels totally out of control. Hopefully the training mission in Martinique will help clear his head. Then everything that can go wrong does and it's a matter of staying alive and keeping his team safe.
This story is very well done and I think everyone will enjoy it. I definitely recommend.
This was a fun book. Sexy. I appreciate the intelligence and depth of the story. Well done, Tonya!
So happy to be back in the with the HORNET team. It’s been a while. This was a very enjoyable fast paced action packed book. It was well written and the storyline was very good.
Jesse, who is the medic for HORNET, has been having some trouble lately. Between his teenage son Connor living with him on the ranch full time now and having a strained relationship with him and his PTSD, things have been tough mentally and emotionally lately. The only recent bright spot is Lanie, but he is trying hard not to do anything about that now that she has joined HORNET and is back in his life on a regular basis. He has known her since they were teenagers but they were never a couple. Jesse has been married 3 times and doesn’t really have a desire to start anything with any woman. In fact he swore off women. But this is Lanie an they have some serious chemistry and resisting her proves futile. The condom incident their first time together was pretty funny. Good thing for Jean-Luc.
The training exercise the team goes on in the jungle and then their vacation to Martinique is where the excitement really begins. Unbeknownst to them there is a mission there. Things move fast from there and it’s awesome to see the group in action doing what they do best. Things do get pretty intense and scary there for a while but this is the HORNET crew, so they’ve got this.
What will become of Jesse & Lanie? Is it possible to have a relationship under their working circumstances? Do either of them want more than just sex? Will Jesse and his son Connor build a better relationship? Will Jean-Luc break his curse?
Great set up in the epilogue for the next book featuring my favorite sexy Cajun, Jean-Luc!!
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Code of Honor is a fantastic addition to the HORNET series. Jesse Warrick is many things, a cowboy, a father, and the HORNET teams medic. He has been through hell and come out the other side. Lanie Delcambre is a former Texas Ranger and the only woman on the HORNET team. Lanie and Jesse have a past and if they want to have a future they are going to have to get through this mission alive.
I really enjoy this series. If romantic suspense is your thing then I highly recommend this story.
The HORNET are at a Resort in Martinique for a training session, followed by a fun filled, relaxing time. What they were not ready for was a hostage situation with half the HORNET inside.
Jesse and Lanie have known each other since they were kids and are trying to fight the attraction towards each other. Just when they give in they are faced with a grim situation. They have to plan and save not just their teammates but also the innocent people captured inside the hotel.
The HORNETS are hot but troubled men and I loved the camaraderie, friendship and support between the them. Code of honor was an intense, edgy, dramatic, and action filled read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Phew Tonya Burrows does know how to write a totally awesome book and you will come to love all of her work like I do and I’m so happy and excited that she done another hornet book. What a amazing series this has been and this book just fits right in with the other 3 books. Highly recommend this fantastic series
Sorry didn't like this one. Don't get me wrong nothing was wrong with Burrows's writing it just wasn't my cup of tea so to say.
I received an ARC of this book. I did the the subject of the book. Sometimes I cheated and looked ahead because I wanted to skip over details to find what happened. Overall good story and love connection came out of the book.
Fantastic story! Poor Jesse can't catch a break these days while now saddled with his sullen 15 year old who has a temper and Lanie, the only female member of the team who takes no crap from anyone and they've been friends and crushed on each other a long time.
You read the blurb so I'll pass that and can tell you first that saying too much will give too much away, however what starts basically as an exercise for the new team and a pleasant rendezvous for everyone on Martinique for a much needed vacation for all ends up being a serious hostage situation that the team walks in on without knowing. The overlapping plot is Tiffany and Claire both research Dr's who are working on a high priority secret project and Tiffany has just broke the code for the virus, ends up kidnapped while Claire is in South America garnering what she deems necessary. These two woman are now pawns between one very nasty man, a half a@@ group of pawns who are trying to grab them and party number three is the Hornet team. Hornet's never fail ladies, not in the field or steaming up the sheets.
What a great story, I love the suspense, action, the men of the team and the plot. Tonya Burrows does write a great story, every single time. I love them. Read the book!! I have been waiting for this one and the wait was well worth it!!
4.5 Stars !!
**arc from NetGalley and Entangled in exchange for a fair review**
4.5 stars
First off, I was grabbed from the first chapter of the book and was immersed in the story until the end. Tonya Burrow’s mature and skilled writing style, how she balances action, danger and suspense with the emotions, struggles and fear her characters go through is just amazing.
I loved the hero, Jesse Warrick, a man who doesn’t do flings and who is “a marriage kind of guy”. His dilemmas and goals as a medic were well handled and credible. His long time relationship with Lanie, the heroine, is one of my favorite tropes. And it was delightful to watch, in the end, the process of choosing the field commander – an indirect feminist statement I appreciated.
Since we have access to his (and others) character point of view, we are really in tune with his thoughts and feelings, and that was also very well done and credible.
But what I liked more about Jesse was his relationship with his 16-year-old son, Connor, and that’s what made him so attractive and yummy (of course he’s handsome, seen by the bad guys he’s “a big blond guy” who looks “like a beach bum”). The way he cares for Connor, his sense of guilt for the things he failed, his overwhelming love for the sullen teenager were just endearing. And I loved to have Connor’s point of view too, so sweet and well done!
I also loved all the attention given to Gabe Bristol, I guess the narrator has a soft spot for him, as I do.
The camaraderie and friendship between the HORNET people, the vivid dialogue and even the glimpses we have into the bad guys’ minds – making them a little more human – make this book a compelling read with lots of suspense and some fun moments.
I look forward for the next installment – Jean-Luc/Claire – and I’m very curious about Ian.
