Twisted Truth is another super addition to the Rogue series books by Melinda Leigh. In this case Melinda Leigh tells the chilling tale of a little boy kept chained in a basement. And that's just the start of the action and suspense. This story is very fast-paced with characters who make the story fascinating. Anyone who enjoys reading action-packed, suspenseful books will absolutely enjoy Melinda Leigh's latest.

My only problem with this book is that it is too short! Great to catch up with these characters and follow their lives. A touch of humour adds to the story.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 3/4
Twisted Truth begins with double murder and one scared little boy. As Carly takes over the care for this little boy, Seth tries to figure out all the why’s and how’s of this double homicide.

But I don’t want to tell you to much and giveaway anything! So go pick up a copy of Twisted Truth to find out how far Seth will go to protect his family and find a murderer.

I always love to visit the sleepy little town of Solitude, Oregon. I really love this series that Melinda & Kendra have created!!, Oregon. I really love this series that Melinda & Kendra have created!! I believe the ladies have said that this will be the last visit in the Rogue River series and while I agree the Taylor family needs some down time I hope that the ladies will revisit this series in the future!

I was intrigued by this novella as it is listed as romance, but the blurb sounded more like murder mystery/suspense. Well, it is mostly murder mystery/suspense and the romance doesn't appear until the end, which is fine with me as I really don't care for romance books. Don't let the fact that it's a novella put you off as this little book is a fast paced, action-packed story with wonderful characters. I'm looking forward to the next novella in the series, Truth Be Told by Kendra Elliot.

My thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

For a short novella, Twisted a Truth packs a lot of suspense and emotion into this small package!

When I've completed a long, overwhelming book I like to take a breath with a short story or novella, something not quite so heavy. Twisted Truth was the perfect choice. It is an introduction to the next series that authors Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliott will publish together and is a continuation of the Rogue series. However, you don't need to read any of the previous works to enjoy this thriller!

Detective Seth Harding arrives at the scene of a double homicide which is horrific enough. What he finds in the basement is even worse: a young boy is chained to one of the pipes. Who does the child belong to, is the murdered couple his parents - the truth and this story are very twisted!!

I had never read Melinda Leigh before this novella, however she quickly involved me in the characters, their lives, the crime and her attention to detail is impeccable. I highly recommend this gripping story.

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Romance for my copy of this ebook.

TWISTED TRUTH by Melinda Leigh. New series "Rogue Justice". I enjoy her books, and was looking forward to this new series of hers..
Seth a county detective, is called, 2 bodies murdered. A noise led them to the basement, a young boy chained, filthy and scared. Seth calls his wife Chaly, who is with Child Services to come, and take him to hospital. Within minutes a man in a lab coat is a ducking the boy. With your heart pounding, you want answers. A great plot that flowed, characters well defined as though you knew them. Readers will definitely want to read this new series. Given ARC. by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

There is a lot packed into this short read, and is the epitome of small town living.

Seth Harding is a detective with the police department. His wife,
Carly Taylor, is a social worker with CPS, and they have an 8 year old daughter, Brianna.

Carly’s deceased father was the chief of police.

Zane Duncan is married to Carly’s sister, Stevie, and is the current Solitude police chief. Stevie is a policewoman.

Bruce Taylor, Carly’s brother, is a new rookie in the police department.

Carly’s mom, Patsy Taylor, is an emergency foster parent. She owns a farm where she takes in strays and overflow from the animal shelter in addition to her own animals.

Seth is called to a shots fired location. Two dead bodies and a young boy chained in the basement are discovered. Seth calls Carly in to take care of the boy. Carly is still reeling from a recent traumatic experience related to her job. The hunt for the killer and the boy’s father takes off from here.

This is not your typical romantic suspense. This is an established marriage that has had its ups and downs and come out stronger because of them. They respect and support each other. Seth struggles not to be overprotective of his wife. You can feel their connection and reliance on one another. I like this change up a lot.

There is some humor interspersed in the stressful circumstances going on. It was interwoven seamlessly into the suspense. Loved Prince Eric!

While this would have been an even more awesome full length story, the author manages to pack a lot into a short story. I would have liked more background on what led up to where the story started. I have not read the series that inspired this spin-off. While this book has me curious about what came before, I don’t feel it was necessary to have read them first.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.

There's nothing like a gun shot to get your day rolling. Seth is dealing with murder and possibly a more sinister problem. Carly is recovering from a child's death and must face another situation. If you read the other novella series about Rogue County and the Taylor family you definitely know Carly, Seth, Brianna and Prince Eric. The first novella sets up and solves part of the crime while the second novella continues the story from another angle. Leigh tells a story alternating between Carly and Seth, gives detailed clues, and manages to keep it light hearted - cue the goat. Wonderful partnership between Leigh and Elliot creating a small community with a superhero crime fighting family. My copy was given through Netgalley and my review written voluntarily.

Rogue county Det Seth Harding is called to a scene where gunshots are heard coming from a neighbors house. Upon entering the house a man and woman are found shot execution style. A young boy is found, dirty and scared chained in the basement. Seth reaches out to his wife Carly a CPS case worker to help with the child. The boy doesn’t speak so they don’t know who he is. They decide that to keep him safe until they can find out what is going on they will take him to their farm. Danger follows them to the farm. This is a novella but the story wasn’t rushed. It has a great plot, good characters and plenty of suspense that will keep you turning the pages. Melinda has delivered another winner. Thank you to Montlake and net galley for an advanced readers copy of this book.

I'm sorry I could only give this new Novella 3 stars ........Why ? because I love the Author's books and felt that this one was far too short for the subject matter and story line ...... in fact it feels a little like a filler in-between the previous books and new ones to come .
Having said that if you like the Author's books and want a short story then this would suit you perfectly ......the ability to combine romance , horrific crimes , well written characters and introduce scenes that make you laugh is a wonderful ability .

Detective Seth Harding has been called to the scene of a brutal double murder , it is a cold wet night , the rain torrential ........ however on inspecting the scene he finds a child chained in the basement .
Who is he ?
Who are the murder victims ?
Who murdered them ?
And most importantly why was the child left behind ?

Seth calls his Social Worker wife , Carly , in to take care of the child - he is worried for her , unsure if she has recovered enough from her last difficult case.
He is racing against time , the torrential rain is raising river levels cutting them off ....... the murderer is still out there ...... will he come after the child ?

As I said above a good short story - but would have been better as a longer story - especially the back story of the child's kidnapping .

I love getting back into the lives of Seth, Rogue County Detective and Carly, the county social worker. It’s a pleasure.to enjoy the love this huge, loving but tough family share. This book is filled with action that keeps you interested from the very beginning till the end, (well at the end you have to see what continues in Truth BeTold) back to Twisted Truth, Melinda keeps you thinking and trying to figure it all out ahead of the reveal but you can’t. Starting with discovering a small malnutritioned boy chained in the basement of a house where two murdered people are found. The approximately 5 or 6 year old boy doesn’t speak and no one knows him. Seth and Carly have their work cut out for them especially since someone tries to kidnap the boy at the hospital before he’s even checked out by a doctor. Carly is still reeling from her last horrific case and is suffering nightmares and lack of sleep can she be of help saving this unknown boy? During a huge storm that floods the town and cuts them off from the outside world plus several new people in their small town Seth needs to sift through all the stories they each claim to find the truth and save his threatened family who harbor the boy. Great beach read I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down!

A small boy is found chained in the basement with two people found murdered upstairs and more murders that follow. This starts the beginning of a puzzle that leads the reader guessing 'who did it' until the very end. A thrilling and suspenseful read that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Kudos to Melinda Leigh for another fabulous book. I can't wait for the next one!

This was my first mystery/suspense novella and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised!

Everything is jam packed into this novella, suspense, drama, shockers, some romance and even a few laughs (ummm...a pygmy goat!) They all melded together to make a thrilling quick story that had me wanting more and more.

We are offered a view through the alternating perspectives of Rogue County Detective Seth Harding and Carly Harding, his wife and on-call Child Protective Services Coordinator. Seth is called to the scene of a double homicide where he discovers a small boy chained in the basement. He calls in his wife to assist with the boy who is not talking and unable give them answers that will help them solve this crime. The plot takes off into twists, turns and shocks up until the very end. Who killed the two people? Who is this young boy? What does he know?

The characters and plot were so rich that it felt like I was reading a full novel. Melinda Leigh has a way of writing that puts you smack in the middle of the scene. I loved the relationship between Carly and Seth. As a romance fiend, their bond became the bloodline, the subtle heartbeat that kept this story moving along strong.

Once I got to the end of the story I was craving more, but not necessarily in a good way. There were a lot of unanswered questions; loose ends that made the ending feel incomplete. I would have happily traded some of the interactions between the family to get a more complete ending that tied everything up.

Overall, I enjoyed this novella and would love to read a full length novel from this author in the future.

This novella is packed with excitement. It begins with Seth called to the scene of a double homicide and finding a young boy chained in the basement. New police officer Bruce, Carly's younger brother, is the only one the child trusts. Carly is the social worker on duty for the county. Seth calls her to come take care of the boy. Carly is still dealing with the trauma of going to another client's home and finding a child killed. Now, she needs to take the boy to the hospital to be checked out. The boy is almost kidnapped from the hospital by a man dressed as a doctor.

While Seth is investigating, Carly takes the boy home with her. She arranges for him to see a child psychiatrist because he is visibly traumatized and not talking. The psychiatrist helps Carly when she has a panic attack and confirms that their treatment of the boy is correct. Seth's investigation leads to the identity of the child but there are still many questions about who kidnapped him and why.

Being a novella which will be followed by a second novella in a week, there were a number of threads hanging at the end of this story. I can't wait to read the second to find out how it all resolves.
