Who doesn't love a story where you can't tell who the bigger psychopath is??
Cherry will stop at nothing to get what she wants; Laura chooses the only solution she can see to her problem.
I loved every minute of this story and would love to read something else by this author.
Very much enjoyed this book!
Lots of twists and psychological challenges!!!
So good. It was fascinating to see Cherri’s social climb and the mom’s insecurities start to win. Great quick read. The ending was a little lacking, but the book was great overall!
Laura has everything--a successful career, a rich husband, and a 23-year-old son, Daniel, whom she adores. Daniel meets Cherry, a beautiful girl from a much poorer background than his. Laura is initially excited that Daniel has a girlfriend, but she begins to believe that Cherry isn't who she appears to be. Cherry wants Laura's life of luxury and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Both Laura and Cherry are calculating and manipulative, and it is a battle of wills to see who will win.
Although I'm not certain I would call it a thriller, this book really held my interest. It grabbed my attention right from the start and was difficult to put down. I think it is actually more of a suspense novel, but it is still so good! Be sure not to miss this one!
When tragedy strikes, a decision is made and a lie is told. A lie so terrible it changes their lives forever…
The Girlfriend is a taut and wickedly twisted debut psychological thriller—a novel of subtle sabotage, retaliation, jealousy and fear, which pivots on an unforgivable lie, and examines the mother–son–daughter-in-law relationship in a chilling new light.
I had hoped to enjoy this book as the reviews for this book were really positive, however it just didn't work for me. I did not continue after 35% as I felt the characters were empty and the plot a little thin. It just wasn't for me. Thank you for the opportunity to give it a try.
Whoa! What a ride I just went on reading this book! The story takes you into the lives of Laura (the mother), Daniel (the son) and Cherry (the new girlfriend). Laura and her son have had a tight bond his entire life but the whirlwind romance with Cherry has threatened their relationship. Cherry wants so desperately to have the perfect life and she is convinced that Daniel can give her just that. The only problem is his Mother who gets in the way and can't be fooled by Cherry's deceitful actions. This psychological thriller takes dark twists and turns, I had strong emotions of disbelief and hate for both Laura and Cherry along the way. The lies, deception, manipulation and fight for power made The Girlfriend a very entertaining read!
I just loved this book. It had me hooked. While predictable in its formula you never knew to what lengths the characters would go to get what they wanted. Meet Cherry, a young, intelligent and pretty woman, dissatisfied by her lot in life. When she meets Daniel she soon realizes that he is her ticket to a better life. I don’t think she was ever truly in love with him but with all he could give her. Enter Daniel’s Mother, Laura, a tad obsessed with her only son. Laura wanted to like Cherry, she tried to get to know her but something was off. When she discovers that Cherry is not all that she seems she tries to mention it to Daniel. He won’t have it. Cherry can do no wrong and the two women in his life soon embark on a mission to see who will win Daniel’s affection. The lengths they went were at times unbelievable. But, I was happily watching this crazy, wonderful tug of war on the sidelines. Who won? You’ll have to read it to find out.
