DNF. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read this book. Unfortunately, this one didn't quite work for me, so I didn't manage to finish it. I might try again in the future, but for now it wasn't the right book for me.

I thought this book was ok. It starts off ok and then takes some weird turns. The story was interesting and unique and not something I've read before. It had some good character development and action scenes, but I just lost interest.

Thank you for the opportunities to read this book. I have attempted it on a number of occasions but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into it.

An okay-ish read. The story feels to be cross-genre fantasy, but a decent read non-the-less a good read. I liked the story but didn't care for the characters a lot.

That was actually quite a fun read!It didn't blow my mind,but it didn't disappoint me either.

Paramnesia follows the story of a girl named Nora,a typical teenager going out to prom with her boyfriend Andrew.However,At the end of the night a monster,called the revenant, who sucks the souls out of people and feed on their energy (think of her as some kind of a dementor),appeared.

Unfortunately, Andrew couldn't make it and his soul got sucked.On the other hand,Nora managed to escape from the revenant but got a scar in the process which gives her the ability to see Andrew and mostly any other dead person around her.

I will tell you honestly, I didn't love this book. I didn't finish, not because it didn't match my mood, but the narrative was everywhere, the characters were not relatable, and the story itself just couldn't hold my attention. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this one, but it wasn't for me.

I liked the cover of the story but realised that this book wasn't for me. It was too much of a gory horror which is something that doesn't suit me well.

I just couldn't get into this novel. I did try, for several months in fact, but I couldn't even get to 50%. It's too childish for my taste, the characters are too bland and the plot is boring.

I am happy to say that I really enjoyed this book - it was a fresh and unique outlook on a science fiction and fantasy outlook to the afterlife. A few variations have been done but this is definitely one of my favorites and in particular I liked the bad guy and the creative way they were portrayed and killed their victims. I must admit that I initially choose the booked based on it's cover and then the synopsis pulled me in, and am I ever glad as the story was so enjoyable and fun to read.
The story starts up fairly straightforward like a typical young adult book, it is about a pretty stereotypical girl who has a gorgeous best friend who all the guys make a fool of themselves over. However this normal girl meets a brand new transfer to her school who turns out to be her soulmate. Andrew is the perfect boyfriend, one who is supportive, playful, romantic, handsome and just super cool. And while the cliché is typical what happens next is not. Further their relationship dynamic will undergo a lot of twists and turns and development throughout the storyline. Seeing how fast their love develops initially raises concerns as to the rest of the story but the author has thought of it all - trust me the pace is perfect.
There are a lot of interesting characters that come up through the story line and some of the supporting characters under go a huge metamorphosis throughout the story. Very enjoyable read, and just the perfect length. Definitely recommended.

A beautiful haunting, yet fast-paced romance with ghosts and soul-eating beings. If the description I just wrote does not catch your attention, then I advise you to move along. It was a nice change to not just see the story from just the MC's point of view but the but the antagonistic character-creature as well. I was easily engrossed in the story because it was so interesting and thrilling especially when I got to the part with the soul-sucking creature named Revenant who I sort-a, kinda-of felt sympathetic for? I also very much enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout the story and the sarcasm that constantly dripped from Nora (the main character).
An issue I had with this book is the insta-love. I understand that the love part had to be moved out of the way for the real story to begin, but it would have been better if the love dialed back a little. Started off a little less fast.
Overall: I deem this book readable to all those who like a speedy romance, man-eating creatures and sarcastic girls with come back lock and loaded.

Nora's life changes in an instant when the boy that she loves dies fighting to save her from an unknown enemy. She should have died too but his last act saved her. What she is left with, though, is the ability to see things and people that are no longer there. This new ability, and her survival, has also placed a target on her back to the Revenants and the world they do not wish people to know about.

Paramnesia began with an interesting premise and continued all the way though. I am ready for the second installment already!

This book did not hold my interest, and thus I never got to finish it. The characters are a little bland and need more development in order for the readers to understand their backstories. The concept is initially well thought-out, but more development would be needed to hold many readers interest.

I would actually have given this book a 3.5 stars if I were able but I just rounded it up to 4.
This book had an interesting premise and once i was able to suspend my belief for awhile, I was able to settle into it. I liked the pace of the book, the author seemed to get right to the point most of the time and I didn't feel like it dragged out so much.
I really liked Nora's character and the different social dynamics. I was curious to see how her and Andrew's relationship was going to change with him being dead (it was a bit too cheesy to begin with), and after finishing the book, I'm totally committed now to finding out what happens next. What other adventures are in store for Nora and the Deadish?
I was really surprised when the author decided to make this book take place in Guelph of all places. I grew up 20 minutes away from Guelph and I know the town very well. It made it easier to get into the book because I knew where most of the events were taking place.
This was entertaining and funny. and I will definitely be keeping tabs on Nora and the gang. Can't wait for the 2nd one.

Paramnesia is the first book in the Deadish Chronicles by Brian Wilkinson. What first brought my attention to the book, unsurprisingly, was the beautiful cover. It’s so pretty – light pastel colors blending together to make an ethereal portrait of a girl. Wonderfully done.
The title of the series probably does a better job giving an idea of the subject than the title does. It’s about a girl who can see ghosts. To me it looked light a nice and fun light read to enjoy.
I was curious, so I looked up parmnesia to see if it was a real term. Fun fact: it is! It’s defined as “a condition of phenomenon involving distorted memory or confusions of fact and fantasy, such as confabulation or déjà vu.” (Thanks google dictionary!).
Warnings first: There’s some animal death in this one. It’s sad, and there are a few ghost critters too. That’s not too surprising, in a story about ghosts though, huh?
I was so excited to start reading Paramnesia; I loved the cover and description, so as far as I was concerned it was guaranteed to be fantastic. Perhaps it’s because I got my hopes so high that I ended up not loving it as much as I would have hoped? I did really try to enjoy it; I just had trouble at parts.
I promise you I did try to care about Nora and Andrew’s relationship – I knew it was going to be the crux of the plot after all, so felt important to like them. Unfortunately their relationship was too sudden and too perfect for it to feel real for me. And to top it off, having the parents call their son’s girlfriend his future wife is just creepy – they’re in high school for crying out loud! Don’t put that much pressure on kids, okay? It’s weird.
The character development on the whole was kind of flat and forced, as were many of the characters themselves. I can see that some effort was put in to make Nora seem like a real girl, giving her an annoying brother and a great best friend – but both felt more like archetypes than characters.
There were some great points to the book though. I loved the Deadish society – all the ghosts were so unique and quirky. It’s like more effort was put into the dead characters than the living ones. If the focus had been one hundred percent on this crew I would have been so much happier with the book.
The major twist at the end of the book made sense, in that they didn’t break the rules of the book to make it happen. Though you can also see it coming a mile away. I’m willing to give this one a pass though, because the twist ended up creating way more complications for the main characters than just having to kick the bad guys’ butt.
This was an interesting concept on the whole, and I’m glad I took the time to read it. I’m not sure if there’s a planned sequel for this one or not, but I might give it a try if that’s the case. I’d be curious to see if any of the problem areas were address and progressed in future books.

Paramnesia told the story of Nora. Nora is in high school and is struggling to find her place because her best friend is just so beautiful.
Until said best friend, Vee, almost runs over Andrew. Andrew is new to town and oh so beautiful and he only has eyes for Nora.
They live the perfect high school romance until they get into a car "accident" and a Revenant eats Andrew's soul.
That's when Nora starts seeing ghosts. Everyone is persuaded she's crazy and she thinks she might be until she meets Charlie, who shares her gifts.

I didn't like Nora, I didn't like Andrew, I didn't really like Charlie and I hated Vee.
I guess they all felt one-dimensional to me and a bit clichéd too. I found Nora really stupid and annoying.
The plot didn't do much for me either... It was too much and not enough all at once.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the writing style... I kind of hate when the points of view change inside a paragraph. It seems messy to me.
I had a lot trouble getting through this book... I can't remember the last time I sighed and rolled my eyes this much while reading...
The world was pretty interesting though, it was pretty well written.

Mostly, I think it just wasn't for me...

I have mixed feelings about this book. The story is very interesting and original but I feel like everything else fell short. Starting with the beginning of the book, it was so rushed. Nora and Andrew are insta-love which doesn’t bother me but it all took place within a month. This would have been better and more acceptable if it was drawn out a little more over time. I felt like it was rushed so the “love” between Nora and Andrew was there just for purpose. Besides the insta-love, I felt like that integration with pop culture was a little much as well. It’s nice to see some of the current movies, books, and music within novels but sometimes they feel forced. That is how i felt with the pop culture references within this book. I still loved the idea of this book though. I found it very interesting and unique. If the other stuff was ignored or adjusted then this book would have been beyond successful.

Along with some of the plot that felt rushed and forced, Nora’s personality was the same. I really enjoyed her strong personality but there were many points where her personality did not fit. The beginning of the book I didn’t mind her but it was more in the middle. When she met Charlie she was unbelievably rude to him and even after their “friendship” she was still rude. She would say how Charlie was annoying and unfriendly but the interactions with him, he never came off that way. I felt like Nora was the one being annoying and unfriendly. Then all of the sudden her feelings for him changed just because. He never acted different but the story needed her to change her feelings so they did. Along with Charlie, I felt like a lot of the relationships just felt a little forced instead of natural. It could have been the dialogue but I just didn’t click with the characters as I should have. Nora at the end of the book, though, I enjoyed. She lost a lot of her unlikable personality and became a strong character. The end of the book was actually the best in multiple ways for all of the characters.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Paramnesia by Brian Wilkinson was an interesting read. With a strong story, the characters and some of the plot was a little lost. This could have been a very successful book but was hindered by rushing certain points of the book and forcing relationships. I do recommend this book for those who enjoy fantasy novels with an interesting concept. The end of the book is rewarding if you can push the beginning and end.

Nora had a deviated septum and snored very loudly . Her brother Tom complained but there was nothing she could do. Nora woke herself up when she snored as she had become so self conscious that she woke up at even a hint of a noise so she wasn’t getting any real sleep. Her best friend Veronica/Vee She was driving them to school and that was scary as Vee and cars didn’t do well. Then a D J mentions how it had been one year since eighteen year old Isabel Clarke and her prom date Jeremy Velloretto were killed under gruesome and mysterious circumstances. The media was salivating with idea of fresh tragedy so they could turn the deaths into urban legend. It was prom season now. Then it was mentioned there were groups that wanted prom cancelled in all the H Ss in the cityVee wasn’t happy about that. Then she hits a kid by the school and Nora gets out of the car to check on him Vee starts complaining as if it’s the boys fault but then she sees him and makes a play for him as she helps him up and over his shoulder tels Nora the boy was hers- he was hot. But he called out to Nora and calls to her ‘Whoa slow down Angel’ like he had called her Angel when he opened hi eyes. Then he introduces himself as Andrew Manes and he was new at the school. Veronica had claimed him but he didn’t seem to want her, Andrew wanted Nora. The Revenant was very hungry - too long since her last meal. Needing to feed was important but secrecy trumped food. As to be known would mean you were hunted and killed, yet not to feed meant you starved and died. So she had to sneak meals - so to speak. That was why the Revenant became a paramedic. She specialized in becoming just another body in the crowd. The job was a brilliant idea and she positioned herself in the best possible place to fit her needs,She was called out to attend the dead and dying. No more than normal died under her care but those who did might have a little less to them after she done with them. It fueled her, It made her greater and increased her power. She had to run after the girl who had got away and then they found the boy at her home- the old hotel,Then she had to run and hide , to starve. That would have been bad enough but the Others were angry as she had broken their code. Death, torture,and mutilation were all on the table but forced fasting had won out. She was fairly new to their ways after all . She had to learn. Besides death was what they delivered to the living not each other. So she had to starve for one year. No new souls, no living energy to fight against the endless deep in her body. She withered under the punishment. It grew harder to live under the rules and thumb of the humans but her position as a paramedic was so perfect to feed her. Tonight the Revenant got lucky when a homeless person in the alley was having a heart attack. Nora and Andrew became a couple and are going to prom. The Revenant causes a car accident and the Revenant gets Andrew but Nora gets away with a small scar. Now Nora can see as well as other dead people like Peepers was forever looking for his long lost love Adelaide. . There is a Deadish Society who want the Revenant dead.Nora tells everyone about the Revenant and seeing dead people especially Andrew. She is sent to a psychiatrist who says she is experiencing paramnesia.
I liked this book but I believe this more geared to the YA group. I am happy I read this but won't read it again. It was a good book but not great. I did laugh while reading this at times. I choked up at times. It choked me up reading about Nora and Andrew’s ghost discussing the life they can’t have together now. I did like Peepers and felt he added to this book. I loved the ending. I did feel there were a few too many ghosts. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

I wanted to like this book, but I ended up forcing myself to read it, before giving up at a little over 50%. I didn't connect with any of the characters. Nora was a twit IMO. There wasn't enough world building. We are told but not shown. The insta love relationship with Nora and Andrew was rediculous. But worst of all was the pacing. It was sooooo slow. There was so much unnecessary info added in that the story dragged. Seemed like an interesting concept, but not well executed.

This book had an interesting premise but unfortunately did not live up to expectations. It did not feel like an authentic portrayal of a teenage girl, and most of the characters were caricatures of prevalent stereotypes (The Perfect Boyfriend, The Bitchy BFF, etc.) Overall I was not terribly impressed with the wordbuilding or pacing, and although I didn't hate this book, I would hesitate to read more from this author.
