I have been waiting on this release since the ending of book 1. Spencer story was to be one for the history books and boy was I not disappointed. Old grandma had a plan and boy did it have the ability to be a s storm. Spencer and Hailey reunion had me on edge but oh did it spark the fire from within them both.
The push and pull of half truths of omission. Add Skye into the equation and you have a non-stop read with some off the wall comic reliefs. LOVED it. Yep!!!!
Have always been a huge fan of ruth’s Books absolutely amazing! And yet again she never fails to keep you hooked in another one of her fabulous books! Absolutely loved it!!
Life is the ultimate classroom. On a daily basis, no matter the age, gender or race we learn truths about ourselves and the world around us. Two of the most prolific lessons I've learned: (1.) Learning is an ongoing fixture in life and (2.) People can surprise in the most unexpected of ways.
Up For Heir is an uplifting tale of lost love, broken dreams and one very special little girl. Ms. Cardello created a meeting of hearts that was not only a romance, but a pathway to healing. The connection between Hailey and her brother was an unbreakable one. Not even death could sever the bond they shared. His words of encouragement were an ever present feature in the life of a woman determined to keep his memory in her heart. Another precious bond was the one forged between a scared little girl and a blustery old woman. The way Skye and the matriarch of the Westerly family took to each other was an emotional experience. Ruth Cardello set out to write a romance, but she created a love story that affected many lives and helped to rebuild a family.
Loved this second book in the Westerly Billionaire series. Spencer was the leftover from book 1. The guy you thought was marrying his best friend to earn his early inheritence only for her to be stolen from him by his brother. These Westerlys are an emotional mess and remind us that no matter how much money someone might have that doesn't mean they don't share the same pain, sorrow and dramas as those without the cash. Spencer is still furious with both his grandmother and father and the deception that upended his entire life. Seeking affection and comfort in both the bottle and with fast and free women, Spencer tries to cover the sorrows of not on ly his famliy problems but of the rejection of his first and only love.
Hailey knew true love with her college sweetheart Spencer. However, experiencing the worst of losses with the death of her father, Hailey doesn't feel college fits her anymore and that Spencer doesn't truly understand how her life has changed. Returning home to the arms and safety of her only living family, her brother Ryan, Hailey and Spencer are done.
Leave it the Delinda Westerly to not settle for anything less than the best for her family, whether they be estranged or not. Delinda is determined to see to their happiness which will give her peace and happiness. Like a matching making puppeteer Delinda pulls every string necessary to pull Hailey back into the Westerly world hoping to give Spencer peance and love via the one true love of his life. Hailey is carrying a new type of baggage, but one she gladly and proudly totes- her niece Skye. Skye was the sweetest thing. Broken from the loss of her parents and internalizing everything - pulling away from Hailey and the world.
Hailey is down on her luck and is given an opportunity at the best possible time- welcome to the Westerly mansion and to the home of the sharp tongued, defensive yet all love of Ms. Delinda Westerly. Delinda is a fierce lady and while she comes off overbearing and blunt she is actually a loving and pleasant- although closeted- grandmother. I loved her budding relationship with Skye. These two were adorable and absolutely meant for one another.
When Spencer and Hailey finally meet they soon discover old flames were never quenched and misunderstandings and assumptions resulted in them being pulled apart too soon. When reuniting is right but secrets still abound can they ever work past it to allow love to conquer all? Wounds of the past and present require attention to heal and create regrowth. You just have to be willinging to devote the care and attention necessary. Sometimes you must go back in order to be able to move forward- and in the end it will all be worth it.
Reading books by Ruth Cardello is like hearing from friends you haven’t seen in a while. You are able to pick up on their lives and meet new friends and family. The Westerly Billionaire series is no different. The second book is all about Spencer – and let’s face it – the Westerly family is messed up and Spencer could possibly be the worse. Spencer tries to avoid family and still nurses a broken heart from when the love of his heart Hailey left him in what seems to him to be a lifetime ago. Simply put he has become impossible to be around. He realizes he can’t ignore his meddling family, especially a determined grandmother who seeks to bring her grandchildren back together and find happiness. Though her manipulation, she will either bring two young lovers who are destined to be together or tear the family further apart.
Thank you Ruth for another five star read that I couldn’t put down until the end!
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
This is the second book in this series and whilst it could be read as a standalone, it helped to have read the first for the background on the characters.
I really liked the romantic element of the story and the way Hailey and Spencer reconnect again.
An easy read but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book. It did not flow as well and just lacked intensity and excitement.
3***
Really great character development. Several seemingly unlikeable people that Hailey sees the best in. Very sweet story.
This is the second book in the Westerly Billionaire series and I would recommend that you do read the first book first (I know logical right!)... it just means that some of character back story is explained in a bit more detail.
This book concentrates on the youngest brother (we haven't really met the middle one yet) and Spencer is an interesting character- quite grumpy at the start (see previous book comment) but gradually he seems to relax and start to deal with his family again!
He hopes to cut ties with his grandmother, but she is completely against this and decided to do what all good books need... meddle (or match-make)!! She finds his college sweetheart and brings her back into his life... but of course things don't go smoothly!!
This was an entertaining entry in the series, that makes me wonder which of her grandchildren Delinda is going to focus her attention on next!
This was the second book in the series, this was Spencer's book. I really do not think that it can be read as a standalone, even though the Author tries to bring you up to date with what went on in last book, you should really read it to get the whole picture. Spencer is angry about being lied to his whole life about who his real father was, and he has turned into a jerk, and is drinking every day and turned into a manwhore, and pushing his family away. I really dislike how he and Nicole treat Brett (again read first book) he doesn't deserve and later at end of book, Spencer will come to find out that that was true. We meet Hailey, who was Spencer's college girlfriend and one true love, but thru a misunderstanding let each other go. Thru machinations from Ms. Westerley, they end up back in each others lives and get another chance..Read book people. Can't wait for next one.
Delinda is kinda like Hailey's Fairy Godmother. The problem is, she is too pushy. She gets her way every time, and then Hailey and Skye (Hailey's niece) get exactly what they've needed. Spencer is more like his grandmother than he knows. The reconciliation between the two was easy. Just shows how much they still love each other.
