This book was fast-moving and kept my attention. The characters are very well written I was sorry to see this end.
If I remember correctly, I have read all the Demonica books, and most of the Lord of Deliverance series, but at one point the books started to repeat the story, and it was not interesting enough any more to continue. But it was long ago and it was time to reintroduce myself with them once more. I just needed something paranormal and hot. And that’s exactly what this book delivers.
This book has strong family ties, strong attraction, hot sex, bloody fight scenes and strong need to let the past go and become who you are destined to become. And of course, here is the HEA ending (unless the demons win the war and we all end up living in hell (literary)).
It was a good to read Ione books over a long time.
I enjoyed this book, both Lena and Nathan were good characters and their chemistry was off the charts.
What a wonderful continuation in this amazing Demonica series! I loved this story between Lena and Nate!
It seemed like Lena should've been a bit more upset about the loss of a beloved sibling. I get that they are supernatural and their hormones are too, but she was investigating a lead on her brother's death but was that turned on by a man who she figured was connected to it from the start? It would've been better if the deceased was just a patient and she was using her last days to investigate trying to help others before she couldn't anymore instead.
Nathan Sabine, a vampire who is also a rare daywalker, is the manager of Thirst a bar that also houses a supernatural blood arena. Supernatural medic Vladlina Paskelkov decides to go undercover when her brother is found dead one night.
This was a great story. It was short but very fast paced and full. I really liked both main characters. Their interactions with each other were definitely memorable. I look forward to reading more from this author.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
A short addition the Larissa Ione's Demonica series, I enjoyed it greatly. The two characters are interesting and engaging, and their story is based around hope and survival. Lena is a nurse working at Underworld General who takes time out to investigate her brothers death at Thirst, a secret Vampire fight club. Time is literally running out for Lena as her impending death from being unable to shift is bearing down upon her. Here she meets Nathan, a sexy, smart walking vampire with problems of his own. Working undercover as a doctor at the club means Lena can get up close to Nathan and the fighting action. Dislike turns to attraction between the two as the two lower their defences and the real hopeless reality of their lives draw them together. Short, but sweet and packed with romance, sex and action.
Vampire Fight Club is a novella set in Larissa Ione's Demonica world that was initially published in the Supernatural anthology and is now available as a separate ebook. I'm a huge fan of this series but had somehow managed to miss this story so I'm really pleased I discovered it now. Obviously the novellas in this series focus heavily on the romance and because there is less page time there isn't usually a huge side plot going on but Larissa always finds a pretty good balance between developing the character's relationships and creating some kind of external tension too.
Lena is living on borrowed time but before she dies she is determined to find out how her brother died and make someone pay for it. She has taken time off from her job at Underworld General to go undercover at Thirst, a popular vampire club that may also have links to a secret underground fight club. Nathan is a rare vampire with the ability to daywalk, he started working at Thirst looking for vengeance but years of following the enemy's orders have left him completely hollow and longing for death. Lena is like a breath of fresh air and meeting her convinces Nathan that life might be worth living after all but first they need to work together to bring down the fight club once and for all and that puts them at odds with a dangerous enemy.
I love Larissa Ione's writing and thoroughly enjoyed Vampire Fight Club. Lena and Nathan were both great characters who have been through a lot but together they are able to find something positive to strive towards. Their romance was enjoyable and they had brilliant chemistry too. It was great to get the chance to see some familiar faces at Underground General, it reminded me how much I loved the early books in this series and made me think it's probably time for a reread!
The perfect way to end the perfect cowboy romance series.
If there was ever a time to use a one-liner to sum a series conclusion, this would be the time. Sloan has not only cemented her place in the romance reading world with this series, she breaks the genre mold with it. The Coming Home series has it angst-filled moments, but the romance is truly the front and center portion of the story. So many books these days focus on the drama, and Sloan just took the reins, and gave us a heartfelt story. Davis might be a damaged man from previous relationship, but when Caroline barrels into his life, he takes the reins and leads us all on a ride through the sweetest romance story possible of the year. I could go on and gush about just how perfect this story is, but I want other readers to really experience their love story. It’s one for the ages, and will be long remembered for years to come.
Cowboy Up, and grab it today!
Kindly provided with an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.....
Wow, Larissa has the monopoly on brilliant paranormal romance reads in my opinion.
This was Vladlena and Nathan's book. Lena's is a shapeshifter and Nathan a day walking Vamp.....totally "Fang"tastic and "Claw"smoldering chemistry !!!!
Lena is trying to uncover who was responsible for her brothers death venturing into the underground fight arena. Nathan manages the place and he is determined to keep a lid on what happens in the underground..........until Lena pushes into his world. What will he do to help or will he keep secrets buried ?.....You'll have to read this beauty to find out.
If you have not read any of the Demonica series then I would urge you in the New Year to make this series on your TBR list. You won't be disappointed.
Well done Larissa and many thanks for this opportunity x
Later peeps xx
A good addition to the Demonica series and made me want to reread the entire series again. Vlladlena and Nathan share an intense attraction that takes them both by surprise and turns into something they both needed.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
I loved dropping back into the world of Larissa Ione’s Demonica series with this novella I missed the first time around. The was originally published as part of the Supernatural anthology back in 2011, placing the story about midway through the Horsemen of the Apocalypse arc. You don’t have to be familiar with the rest of the series to understand what’s going on here, but they’re such great books, I would definitely recommend going back to Pleasure Unbound and enjoy Demonica from the beginning.
This story features a hero and heroine I don’t remember from the series, so obviously, this novella wasn’t tied closely to the overall timeline. Nathan is a powerful daywalking vampire who has spent so long trying to get close to his nemesis that he has lost the fiery need for revenge. You see, Rune killed his mate, but was too powerful for Nathan to take down at the time. So he went to work for Rune at his club and illegal fighting operation. He planned to destroy the man’s world; instead, he just grew dead inside.
Until Lena comes along. The nurse at Underworld General hospital is trying to find the illegal fights that took her brother’s life. She is living on borrowed time anyway, since she has never been able to shift into her animal form and it’s killing her. Her intense attraction to the club’s manager is a distraction she doesn’t want or need, but if she’s going to die soon, why not go out with a bang?
The story moves fast, which you can expect from something this short. It’s insta-lust and not super-emotional. But it is sexy and fun and I read the whole thing in one sitting. It will probably more exciting for readers like me who have loved this series for a long time, but I think new readers can enjoy it for what it is: a short, sexy paranormal romp.
Rating: B
Vampire Fight Club by Larissa Ione is the story of Nathan and Vladlena.
Nathan runs a popular vampire club that has a underground fight club. When Vladlena brother is killed after being in a fight club she decided to undercover as a nurse/medic where Nathan is the manger. Nathan is a imediately attracted to Vladlena but the former fighter in him knows control. But she is making it hard to control himself.
Really hot short vampire romance.
Loved It! I've read all the books in the Demonica series so far and Nick and Lena were no exceptions. Filled with action, blood, death and most importantly love, a girl couldn't ask for more. Totally enjoyed it and I always look forward to her books. 4.5 stars!!!!
I enjoyed this. I knew going in it was a novella, but I still found myself wishing the story was longer. Even if only because the idea of a Vampire Fight Club was exciting! Lena and Nate are interesting characters with great tension and steamy chemistry. 3.5 stars
The Demonica Series by Larissa Ione is one of my favorite paranormal series. It is an expandable one, where various settings and plots can exist beyond the basic series. So this novella was a welcome surprise. Like all the other books, this is well plotted and thought out plus with the sizzling chemistry between the main characters present (like previous books). The Vampire Fight Club as the title implies is all about an underground fight club which is being headed, reluctantly, by Nate a daywalker vampire who for centuries has been trying to kill its owner but to no avail. Lena is a hyena shifter who has not shifted once and is now doomed to probably never shifting at all and spiraling into insanity. When she finds out how her brother died, she asks permission to infiltrate the club where he was last seen, as a medic. Little did she know that she would find more than she bargained for when she gets there. Or that her sexual chemistry with her brother's probable killer would be out of the chart. When Nate and Lena come together it results into something neither of them could predict.
Vampire Fight Club although short is quite well plotted and paced well. It is set in the Demonica World, therefore the sexual scenes between Lena and Nate is really hot, despite the latter behaving like a douchebag some of the time. It's classic Demonica series therefore if you are a fan it would definitely be perfect for you. If its the first time reading about the Demonica series, then its a way to getting a short intro about the world since most of the original casts makes an appearance.
I loved this book when it was in supernatural and loved it years later. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal, romance or both.
Love this series. This novella is a great addition. Nate and Lena were a great couple and seeing the underworld hospital crew is always great. Even though it’s a short story it was sexy and was a great read. Not to be missed
Loved this supernatural romance story by Larissa Ione! Her Demonica series is one of my favorites. Vladlena is a shifter who is trying to find out how her brother died. She meets vampire, Nathan, the manager of a Vampire Fight Club, and her life gets a lot more complicated. Nathan has his own reasons for running the club but when he meets Vladlena he realizes that he has to take action now. Great story!
