Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately, while the blurb really interested me, I have been unable to get into the book.
I made it about 40% through this book before I decided its just not for me. I couldn't really find anything specific wrong with it, I just found myself bored and not wanting it read it.
I received a copy of this from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not sure why it took me so long to read this, I just kept putting it off for some reason. But since I'm leaving for Italy in a few days, I thought it was the perfect time to read it. I forgot how much I really enjoy these coming of age stories that depict a typical family life, year by year. This one is about the life of 10 year old Lee, aka Leda, her family, friends and their adventures. It discusses the comradary of school, new friendships and old, Lee's struggle with being a tomboy, and her introduction into the evolving of her friendships into something more. Life in Italy in the late 1980's as seen through her eyes. Social pressures, religion, the roles of women, family struggles are all addressed in this book. I thought it was good other than a few patches. I definitely want to see how Lee turns out in her life so I'll be tracking down the other books in this series. I would have also given this a 3.5 rating but I rounded up to a 4.
This graphic memoir explores what childhood was like for two boys in the Italy of the 1980s.
This is such an awesome idea for a series! It Will All Make Less Sense When You Grow Up was a thoroughly enjoyable series starter, and I loved Leda’s voice as she navigated some of the challenges that come along with becoming an adult and figuring out who you’re supposed to be. There was a lot of great detail here that really brought Italy in the 80s to life. Between those and the dynamic relationships between various characters, Leda’s childhood really came to life. I loved it!
Highly recommended!

It’s Italy in the late 1980’s, ten year old Lee, a fearless bookworm struggles when Nico the schoo, bully moves to the northern town of Arese from Sicily. The two could not know how they would change each other’s lives and change each other forever.

I give An Italian Adventure: It Will All Make Less Sense When You Grow Upfour Out Of five stars!
